  • Warren Earp was the youngest of the Earp brothers. He was a frontiersman and lawman who participated in the Wyatt Earp vendetta ride following the shooting of Virgil and Morgan Earp. In this video we will take a closer look at the cemetery where he is buried.

    Could there be a more perfect location for an old west cemetery! With one of the Earp's buried there! One person even had the last name of McClintock, right out of a John Wayne movie. You really pick some beauties,Rhetty.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  2 года назад +1

      I thought the exact same think you did about the McClintock! I wondered about the history of some of the others in the cemetery. I haven't researched any of them but I'm sure there are some interesting stories. Thank you for watching Hans!

    Really enjoyed this video and the history lesson. I have to imagine that all of the Earp brothers walked around with a certain swagger.
    Men had to be tough in those Old West towns or they would've never survived.
    Robert with Sidestep Adventures always reminds the viewers that when ever you tour an old cemetery such as this one, you can
    add 3 graves for everyone that you do see.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  2 года назад

      I believe that Robert is right on that assessment for sure. I also think you're right on the Earp's having a certain swagger. I feel Warren couldn't really back his up. Thank you for watching Richard!

    Rhett, I really enjoyed this Old West video, about Warren Earp. I wasn't familiar with this particular Earp brother, I always thought it was five brothers, not six. Enjoyed the beautiful views of the skyline and mountains from this cemetery. This cemetery definitely has an Old West look that I find very interesting. Hope your voice improved real soon.and try to rest, too. Take care 🐎

      My voice is better now but there were so many dust storms out here I think that had a major affect on it. There were also some Earp sisters as well but I assume they had better heads on their shoulders since we don't hear about them. I will have to do some research on them and see what I find. I would like to cover all of the Earps some day. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and this cemetery does feel like you are in the Old West. More so than Boot Hill Cemetery in Tombstone. Thank you for watching Brenda!

      This brother used his more famous brothers reputation to bully people and it cost him his life. Virgil Earp actually came into town still with a bad arm which he had the rest of his life to find out if he needed to take revenge and he left town without any trouble. There seems to be no doubt that Warren started the fight and the other man was trying to avoid trouble

    Thank you, this cemetery is fantastic! I thought your voice was fine but at the end it sounded as though you struggled, but your diligence is appreciated. I had in my hands the cemetery records of the one cemetery I mentioned on an earlier video but they were stolen and I am hoping they turn up for sale on the internet or some antique store, likely in Nevada. I'm thinking of snail mailing you graves of local people of interests, although in this area, most criminals were buried at their place of execution.

    Tucsonan here: Those Yuccas are Joshua Trees. That skinny cactus is a type of cholla (Choy-yah). Always carry a comb in your pocket while walking in the desert so you can flick off cholla if it gets on your clothing. Your throat is rough because you’re probably dehydrated. Add 1/4 Gatorade to 3/4 water so you can get rehydrated. Tip: if you’re not using the restroom, you’re not drinking enough. Note: the pieces of wood are probably original. We don’t get enough rain for things to break down as fast as they would where you come from.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for the help on the plants. I always carry a plastic fork to help out flick out things. We have some nasty stickers here in Oklahoma. I was definitely hydrated and made sure of that. I got to AZ and was sneezing like crazy but there was a lot of flowers blooming everywhere. Particularly at the hotel I was at. I think that is what kickstqrtef it combined with just a lot of talking and speaking. I figured the wood was much newer for several reasons. One the wood was made using a router and two the brackets used to attach them was much newer. It all still had an old west feel though. Thank you for watching Sally!

    This cemetery is wonderful!
    A great western cemetery with a lot of history.
    Wood in Arizona, New Mexico, West Texas, and southern Utah can last a very long time.
    Because of very little humidity and very hot temperatures wood will last for years.
    I've seen, in southern Utah structures that were built in the late 1800's still around.

      Very interesting. I know the youtube channel Arizona Ghost Riders did a story on some guys that keep a ghost town painted and they have to constantly keep painting and at most I think they said the paint lasts 5 years. @@RhettyforHistory Speaking of ghost towns before I read your comment I was just sitting here thinking, there's another channel I watch. A guy owns the Cerro Gordo mining town. He repurposes some of the wood that's been laying around there. IDK either I mean to me it looks good and he's never mentioned any sort of preservation. I just assumed it would still be good with it being dried out. I'd like to know too.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  2 года назад +1

      Is that the guy in CA that purchased the ghost town? I'm sure a lot of that wood is good for a long time. I'm pretty sure these markers were created using a router on the writing. I bet it was all made by the same person and then of course it depends on the type of wood used too. Oak is obviously going to last longer than pine. I have no idea what type these were. I did notice where the wood was attached using more modern looking brackets. That's what made me think it was placed there in the 80s or 90s maybe.

    • @JoshuaMuse
      @JoshuaMuse 2 года назад +2

      @@RhettyforHistory Yes, that's the guy. Brent. Never considered the type of wood lol. I bet the type of cut and shape play a role too. However do you think it's possible those markers could be fake like that one cemetery? Dang I've gotten interested in this now. I've tried looking stuff on Google, but they only want to show me site to sell me stuff. EDIT: I found a link that says 3 to 10 years. Can't post the link though but it's from the National Parks website.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  2 года назад +2

      Dang I would have thought they would last longer that that out there. I think 10 to 20 is about what they would last here in Oklahoma depending on the type of wood and whether or not it was treated etc. I just had in my mind it would last longer out there. I think it is a good possibility that they could be marking places were they aren't really sure if they are there. Perhaps they have some cemetery records somewhere but I don't know how detailed they are. At least they didn't sat a lot of crazy claims of being shot or something.

    What I like about the Wyatt Earp story is how he was a paid adviser on the early westerns from Hollywood. I've probably got the film mixed up, but I read that John Wayne met Earp when he was starting out and he copied the hesitating way Wyatt Earp would speak. When you hear Wayne say. Well... now... I wana tell you... boys... if you're... lookin'... for trouble... trouble...is what...you're gonna... git... Apparently Earp spoke in staccato-like bursts and John Wayne saw a way to make himself look more authentic. Stage Coach and The Searchers are two films that were worth everything else he made in my opinion. But what we have to realize is that when humans had to do a lot of things on their own, the movies were terrific. It seems like every step we make with technology getting better, our art forms are flattening out. In today's pop music for example, they don't write bridges any more. Recording sessions in the 50s were made with everyone playing their part and getting it recorded on the spot. Then tracks came about in 60s and 70s, there were a lot of fine tunes made as well, but as we became more technical the bottom dropped out of creativity because machines thrilled the muscians and engineers to death and so they went on overkill. You can't knock progress, but when you see a concert like the Travis Scott and Drake show with only one guy on stage with a mic in his hand and a backup track playing a loop over and over and not even musicians or backup singers on stage, you have to realize we've up and killed an art form. Live music concerts have become a parody because technology has scared away anyone wanting to learn how to play a guitar or take the time to write a song--with a bridge. I know; I know, it's easy to criticize but what I see with my eyes more and more is movies I end up not seeing to the end and songs I turn off before their finished. We can't go back, but we have to realize that machines may be good for doing a lot of our menial jobs, but maybe we shouldn't let them take over our creative instincts

      I would have to research on whether he had a warrant issued for his arrest and for what. This whole thing is two sides of law battling each other. Two sides that should be on the same side. It also got wrapped up in politics. At the time there were two papers in Tombstone and there were two versions to the story depending on which side of the story you sided with. The benefit Wyatt had is he lived longer than anyone else who was telling the story and the other newspaper that was against him went out of business. That's why we hear the story we hear today. As far as the accuracy of Tombstone the movie there is a lot that is off. Interesting that the Earp parents lived in Colton, CA, and Boyett retired to Redlands, less than 5 miles east of Colton.

      @@RhettyforHistory Colma’s just south of San Francisco, a 6-7 hour drive from Colton. Morgan is buried at Hermosa Gardens Cemetery in Colton, while their mother, Virginia, is buried less than 10 miles away at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery in San Bernardino.

    You should see some graves in the UK. Not fences but cages over them to stop grave robbing.

      Some of them yes. I think the acid bath murderer has one because he was worried about people stealing his body.
      It also stopped people stealing bodies to aid medical research.

      Burke and Hare where 2 killers in Scotland who murdered people to get money from a surgeon.
      They got caught and you can see Burkes Skellington in the science museum.

      I was doing lemons, mountain dew which I hare and then in the video you can hear a throat drop too. I really tried hard to get that voice back because I knew I would be doing a lot of speaking. I think all of that is what saved it to that level. Thank you for watching Tracy!

    I wonder if caskets were used in the 1800s or if they were buried people were just buried without one.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  2 года назад +1

      They did use what is called coffins and they were many times made out of pine. Many times they would be just a simple box but sometimes they could have an outward shape towards the top. If they were somewhere out in the middle of nowhere or a criminal then they may not have anything. Just depends on what was available and what the people thought of them. No telling what Warren had.
