African Americans need to know about how much we endure throughout the world and support black culture when they travel. This should be a destination for Africans the world over, come and spend some money here, as well as, other Columbian cities that have large black populations.

As a Colombian American I find it hard to believe that so many foreigners don't know about the Afro Colombian population and it's rich cultural contributions to the country's identity.
Even though I'm not black, I've always admired what my black Colombian brothers have been able to do there in spite of so much adversity. Their social contributions and influencial importance in how they have been able mold Colombia's cultural DNA can not go unsaid.
I've often noticed that when we (Colombians) meet other Colombians outside of the country, say the USA for example, we just see another Colombian. Rarely does race come to mind.
But in the USA race seems to be the 1st thing people notice when encountering strangers.
Don't get me wrong, there is racism in Colombia. Although not to the same degree as you may find in the USA.
More than anything else, Colombia suffers from socio economic prejudice. Which is in my opinion just as bad. A poor person is heavily discriminated there. This part of Colombian society saddens and frustrates me to no end. It's the main cause of so much conflict and misery there.
Thank you Ace for shedding light unto the plight of what many people go through there on an everyday basis. Much love hermano ❤

I've been to Colombia several times (Bogotá and smaller cities outside). I didn’t see many people that looked like me and when I did, we were so genuinely pleased to see each other, we greeted each other like old friends!
I always queried, "Ok, so where are the people that look like me here?"
My eyes have been opened and some questions answered by your channel! 👏🏾

Also another reason why there are so many black people there is because the Atrato River was one of the original sites for a canal. So blacks were brought there in 1820s to dig the canal Caribbean-Atlantic to Pacific, but during the digging they discover precious gems. The canal was stopped and mining took its place.

Great video. I can’t wait to visit one day. As for some of these comments mentioning (Black) Americans not knowing about Black Colombians, the face of Latino communities is white/mixed race, not Black. And historically, Black people in these countries have been pushed into separate areas away from mainstream culture. While we must educate ourselves, from a commercialized and media standpoint, this is why some people were not aware.

It is far from peaceful my sister. Black and Indigenous people are routinely forced from their lands by guerillas and narcos. There is a lot of violence and the black people of Cali, Buenaventura, Choco etc will tell you. The biggest port in Colombia is in Buenaventura and from there a lot of drugs are export through the Pacific to land in the US, Europe etc. Black people are used as labor along the distribution chain but benefit nothing. As you can see from the housing ,it is pretty clear the central government in Bogota cares not a whole lot about the conditions of black and indigenous folks. Their Vice President is now a black woman and hopefully more resouces get allocated to the poor people and there is also a good portion on non black or non indigenous people who struggle in Colombia. The income inequality is terrible.
