      You are correct!
All potential for toxicity lies in how much Vitamin D3 (VD3) is in the blood (not the daily dose) and not until you reach or surpass 200 ng/ml. As long as you have your blood level checked 1 or 2x a year and stay under that you're good. There are exceptions, for people with hypercalcemia or underlying conditions where increasing VD3 can expose other nutritional deficiencies - but that's not vitamin D toxicity. Most people in a northern latitude, after winter but before they've gotten enough sun in the summer, would be lucky to have a level of 20 to 25ng.

Whatsmore an international panel of 48 vitamin D scientists/doctors, working on behalf of a non-profit health organization, discovered an error in the IOM's calculations that reveal daily dosages should be about 10x higher than recommended.

@@Faith-cx5rf FWIW, I'm a few years older than you. I weigh ~180# and have been taking 6,000 to 8,000 IU per day since Feb 2020. I started taking it for immune support, but was pleasantly surprised when I woke up a few months later and realized my arthritic hip and (injured) ankle had not played up in some time. Thinking back, the only lifestyle or diet change was the addition of the D pills. Now, after almost a year of D supplementation, the joints are VASTLY improved, to the point that they no longer impair my activity to any meaningful degree. From what I've read, any healthy adult can take up to 10,000, maybe 20,000, per day without ANY fear of developing any level of toxicity. A lot of Dr. suggest ~5,000 of D3 so per day. For what it's worth, I'd suggest 3 pills of 200IU each, once a day. Try this for a few months and see if you feel any younger! :)

this report fails to address that 70 - 75 % of 'us' are vitamin D deficient already. So the levels she is speaking of are very likely irrelevant. It takes a very long time to raise vitamin-D levels in the blood, as there are a number of absorption barriers such as high blood pressure, elevated body mass index, digestive imbalances, etc. So it is possible to take vitamin-D at 2,000iu per day and not even raise your blood vitamin-D levels at all. The best advice is to have your vitamin-D levels checked to see which dose is a good supplement for you as an individual. It could range as high as 30,000iu per day in some people, and even at that dosage could take 3 to 6 weeks to start correcting a deficiency. Again; You have to know where you are starting from, so the best thing is to have your vitamin-D levels checked to know for certain which dose is for you.

Actually, vitamin D is not toxic at all. The problems people experience with high doses of vitamin D are actually magnesium deficiency symptoms with cause lots of health problems, but they are usually not lethal.
Vitamin D works with magnesium, so the more vitamin D you take, the more magnesium you burn up, and that's the real problem, magnesium defiency, not vitamin D toxicity. It's estimated that 80 percent of people are magnesium deficient, so if they take massive doses of vitamin D, it the toxicity causes magnesium based health problems.

Many sources say 4000IU is the top of the recommended supplemental dosage with exceptions. Two biggest exceptions are to catch up quickly when deficient because it takes a while. And obesity. Apparently being a fat-soluble vitamin, it can get drawn into fat tissue, leaving serum levels low. While 4000 is the normal max, they don't talk about toxicity much until 10,000IU. Rather than bouncing around the rumors, best approach is to have serum levels checked and do what the Doctor says to do if you're below optimum levels. Guessing what you need may not get it done.

10,000 IU is not toxic! 40,000 of vitamin d is equal to 1 mg! People don't let the high IU's scare you. That's what it's meant to do, Scare you! Two to four thousand IU is a drop in the bucket. The more you weigh, the more vitamin d you need. A good rule of thumb is to take 1,000 IU per 25 lbs of body weight. You also need to take vitamin K2 and a quality magnesium supplement, not citrate or oxide. Those are more of a laxative. You want mag malate, glycinate, taurate, or threonate. They are better absorbed. When you supplement vitamin d you need magnesium to activate it. You end up burning thru your mag stores at a higher rate. There is a Dr in Brazil who is famous for treating autoimmune patients with high dose vitamin d with great success. His minimum dose is 40,000 IU and he ramps it up from there until his patients start seeing improvement, then he backs it down to a maintenance dose. I've read that he goes as high as 200,000 IU's for brief periods. I know he regularly tests for parathyroid hormone to make sure it is in the very bottom of the reference range, and if it isn't he raises the vitamin d to bring the PTH down.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "obesity being an exception?" Because I am chronically deficient in vitamin d and was given high dose vitamin d2 to take 50,000. I understand high doses can make people sick, and d2 doesnt work as well as d3, so I started priming with vitamin d3 2000iu 2x a day when I eat. Then I plan to take the high dose in a week or 2 and see if it helps better.
But I am currently obese & been having a hard time burning fat as fast as I should for my weight despite HUGE calorie deficits, weighing all my food, & increased physical activity 1hr a day or 10k steps. Doctors don't believe me. But I had to request tests to get some answers smh. My vitamin D was low, anemic, and high estrogen due to endometriosis. Been trying to balance hormones ever since & eat a more balanced diet with in my calorie budget, instead of focusing on just low calories.

It's not the amount of units you take. It's the amount that your body allows you to absorb. In other words, you can take 10,000 units a day. But, it won't matter if it's not being absorbed properly. Only then will Vitamin D work for you. BECAUSE, Vitamin D is a Fat Soluble Vitamin. If you don't take it with fat, it won't get absorbed properly. Also, make sure it is healthy fats. Vitamin D has many roles. But some main ones are Calcium absorption and Immune System assistance. Make sure that your stomach, Liver, Bile content, Pancreatic Enzymes, and (Vitamin K2 - also Fat soluble Vit) are all working effectively. This will help ensure that Vitamin D absorbs calcium into the bloodstream better(approx 20x), and that K2 will transport the calcium properly in order to help strengthen your bones. If you are deficient in calcium for some reason in the bloodstream, the body will compensate. This causes the parathyroid to take calcium from your bones causing Osteoporosis. I'm not a Doctor. I just play one on T.V. --Also, Please do your own research as well. I'm just providing some areas of the body to look at when seeing how Vit D works. Good Luck!!

You easily make 10,000 IU a day in good, sunny weather (if much of your body is exposed). No way any amount less than that can be toxic. Traditional tribal cultures around the world like the Maasai in East Africa have 100-125 nmol/l which is the ideal amount in humans. Officially in many countries a "deficiency" is less than 25 and insufficiency between 25-50. These figures are only for bone health for not for respiratory health and general immune function and energy/metabolism within your body. You need much higher amounts for that.

The best way to get vitamin D3 is through sun exposure. Go outside and get some sun, especially in the mid-day when it’s the strongest.
However, many of us use sun block, which is good for our skin but not so helpful when it comes to the production of vitamin D3. By blocking out the UVA and UVB rays, sun block can interfere the skin’s ability to synthesize vitamin D3. GOD BLESS.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BLOOD LEVEL - NOT THE DAILY DOSE
Yes, general.

It's not under the recommended daily amount and it's far from being over... so that gives you a good headspace in case you eat some Vitamin D rich foods or are in the sun that day. No one should be "poppin'" 5,000 IU's of Vitamin D3 unless you have a severe deficiency... and even then, that seems to be much.

Now if another individual was in office and not exposed to Sun 6mo/year they likely would be low...if your PCP can't distinguish between 25hydroxy1,2 then I'd get a second opinion...

@Alc73 I've been taking about 1500iu per day since the start of the pandemic and I've been struggling with tightness in my legs which has become progressively worse over that period. After a little research I cut out my supplements about 10 days ago and my walking was improved significantly since then. Clearly that amount of Vitamin D3 is toxic FOR ME.
