Beautiful watch. I've been a watch collector for about 20 years. At this stage, I strongly prefer quartz. There's zero romance in the service costs and maintenance hassle of mechanical watches. Purchased a SBGN027 recently.

I'm one of the rare people who actually prefer the movement of a quartz second hand. Especially if it nails the markers every time. I absolutely adore my sbgn003.

Great review Andrew. I have had my 9f quartz GS for over six years and it will never leave my collection.
It was the first expensive watch I purchased . I did a lot of reading up on watches both automatic and quartz at this value but decided that with this watch , I am getting one of the best if not the best quartz watch with a finish that just sparkles when any light hits it
.since then I am lucky enough to own several high end automatic Swiss watches but I set all of these to this watch as ,at present if it wasn’t for the daylight savings time I would not have to alter the time it is that accurate..
    Cheers
    Dave

Purchased a GS from Ryan earlier this year myself! I got a blue dial 9F quartz. Absolutely gorgeous piece. Love it. Luckily the strap fits me well without micro-adjust so all good there for me. Whilst I’m more than happy with mine, the butter-sweep on the spring drive movement is something else, I agree. Hope you’re well, mate.

I've turned over literally a few hundred grand's worth of luxury watches in my 11 years in this hobby Andrew, including the '375 SD featured here. The '375 isn't really one I regret letting go of, but I do regret selling every one of the GS HEQ's I owned. Don't know what I'm saying, just is what it is I suppose.

    • @jacc9061

I’ll agree with that. I’m delighted every time I look at my wrist and know exactly what time it is. No fuss and absolutely as refined as the rest of the GS lineup.

@@jacc9061 I've bought another one since, the "simple" SBGX261 black dial HAQ. Absolutely satisfied with it as my one high end Seiko. Credor is knocking at the door though 🙂

I'm a die hard Seiko-holic and am fortunate enough to have pieces in my own collection with internals ranging from the basic but ubiquitous 7s26 up to a pair of Spring Drive GMTs (one from the Prospex line and the other a GS)
I do not have any of the GS quartz pieces but that 9Fxx movement family is top-shelf tech. Quartz? Yep. But jeweled, fully-serviceable quartz. Nice review!

I am about to pull the trigger on the sbgn005, this will be my first GS and my first quartz..not being a wealthy man the spring drive equivalent is difficult to justify, especially when you factor in the service costs of these movements.
I am obsessed with accuracy and love the idea of having a beutifuly engineered hand finished watch on my wrist that is powered by a high end hand assembled in house movement....
By the way it's good to know it's not just me that checks out my watches in the mirror 😉

I am looking at buying this particular GS high end quartz. I have a couple of Astrons and their quality is also top notch and have the same spot on hit on the hour markers.
Hopefully the dealer would give in to my price for this wonderful piece.
    Nice video and review.

Really great videography on those to capture the way the light hits both of those. The way those makers glint is amazing. I almost bought the 005 9F last year, the one with the "explorer" bezel, but I got wet feet and cancelled the order because of the quartz thing. But I feel like now I have experienced enough mechanical watches that I'd be able to really appreciate the "grab and go" aspect of them. I didn't know there was such a difference in bracelet quality between the two different lines. That's good to know in advance. Great review as always man!

I have a SBGW231 and it's perfect. Still waiting for GS to bring out a sporty watch that really does it for me. The SBGA413 (Spring) came pretty close but it was only in the USA so never got hands on with it. The SBGN013 is better than the Explorer 2 homage they do. The SBGN011 would be my pick for a GS GMT. Great video as always.

Great review. I got the previous version (sbgn009) with blue and gold dial and strange looking quartz sign which you can barely see even if you try :) Strangely having many different mechanical watches this one gets most of my wrist time. Quality of the case and dial is up there with the best I think. Yes, it is quartz but once you get past that you can’t go wrong with this watch.

Nice video! 👍 Am thinking of buying this model or the SBGN003. I do like the spring drive and have owned the SBGA285. I sold it when I looked into how much servicing would cost (almost £590 with full case polish and takes up to 10 weeks). In addition to this, there was a small section in the instruction manual about magnetism and how the watch if magnetised would need to be sent off to GS for recalibration (not covered under warranty). It is the most beautiful watch I've worn to date and that gliding second hand is awesome; but those issues made my mind up about keeping it long term.

I own an 9F86 Sport model. one really needs to know something about this movement so they don't feel it's comparable to a cheap Seiko movt. It is fantastic but, GS' tend to lose so much value I'd never recommend buying one new or anywhere near retail. I wish it weren't so but one can lose a lot of money if you're not careful. I always buy barely used and this makes it more palatable for me.

Came so close to buying a spring drive, the black dial version of that midnight blue dial (sbga203).....Still underappreciated and downgraded by so many and it does annoy me massively.... They're NOT a seiko (as great as some seiko models are) .... Some of the GS sport models are ugly and bizarre but they do excel in the dress watch field undoubtably.... The devil is in the detail and the owner has the front seat..... 3 watches in the running for 'next watch' and that midnight blue spring drive is one of them (speedy and BB58 are the other 2, just saying)..... 😍
