I don't dislike quartz watches, there have been many impressive quartz movements over the the decades, the Rolex Beta 21, which later became the Oysterquartz, Seiko also been known to make decent quartz movements, many different watch companies were supplied with Seiko quartz movements. I am very impressed from what you told us about 9F series quartz and then there's the Daddy of them all the Spring Drive. Your 9F86 GMT with yellow accents has grown on me and your description of the movement in this video has made me even more impressed with it, it is a shame you decide to sell it Adrian.
I just bought an original 1993 Seiko Grand Seiko 9F83 9A00 day date white dial quite a bargain from a Japanese seller on eBay for over £700, it's a pretty good looking watch, very clean design, the dial is almost like a Patek Philippe Calatrava. I never thought I would get a Grand Seiko for under 1k. Can't wait to receive it👍
@@clegsmegson2627 I reckon he didn't wear it because, let's be honest, the reference he had is horrible. That yellow accent is awful, hard to pair, way to stand-out. The dial texture is cool, but distracting too. The other references in this series are pretty nice, the blue dial/red hand and the black dial/orange hand. I agree with Adrian though. The 9F series are great. Mechanical-lovers can't see it, but they'll soon pay upwards of 2k for an off the shelf ETA movement in a tudor that has had a few mods. I'd take GS9F over a huge amount of mech watches, but never over a in-house mech-movement. I really do think GS quartz represents GOOD - not great - value for money.
I agree. I was on the fence about the yellow themed watch. It makes it look like a regular old cheap seiko or other knock off brand and as he stated in a previous video it was very hard to pair. I ended up getting the blue face with the red GMT hand. This watch the SBGN005 looks so much better in my opinion. I use it to Sport around and goes well with blue jeans T-shirt or shorts T-shirt and can even be worn with a dress shirt and slacks for casual office attire. I also have the green Limited addition of 1200 SBGN007. This watch is even more dressy as it lacks lume and does not have the explorer type bezel. I get that the watch is in the sport collection, but I feel that with the yellow it went really overboard. I think the only attractive part of this watch is that it is limited to 800 pieces.
The 9F movement is amazing - I knew it was good but this description showed me I only a fraction of the quality and care that goes into these movements - Thank you Adrian 😊👍
Watches and Giggles it’s funny but I did think the same. However he does give a reason at the end why he is selling, just doesn’t get on with it 🤷🏼♂️.
I thought the exact same thing ... was going to write it, but you wrote it first! It’s so great ... obviously not great enough to keep it, but it’s great for someone else! What a salesman. Let’s see if he actually gets another quartz
Actually, your initial video made me buy my SBGN005 with its gorgeous blue dial, mostly appearing blackish, and it red GMT hand and I still love it to death! It's my travel watch and I grab it when I'm in a hurry needing accurate time keeping.. A bit disappointed that you sold yours, though... I will hang on to this great piece of artisan craftsmanship! Cheers from Germany and keep up the good work!
I love my 005! Got it before I saw this video for many reasons outside of the movement. However, if I could get the 001, I think I'd jump on it and flip the 005. That yellow and textured dial would sincerely by one of a kind in my small collection of black dial, classic looking watches.
My biggest gripe with mainstream quartz watches has always been the second hand not lining up with the markers in the chapter ring...nothing looks cheaper to me. This is pretty amazing. I have a Citizen Calibre 2100 and it is pretty amazing and accurate but nothing compared to this. Another awesome video, Adrian!
I thought a swiss made watch has to be mechanical. But somehow i got myself a Longines V.H.P Gmt quarz watch. And i love it. The movement with the flashlight setting and switching between the different timezones ist just amazing. Longines advertise the V.H.P collection with an accuracy of +- 5 seconds a year. One year ago, i set the watch witch the flashlight app and didn't have to change anything yet. And i mean ANYTHING. The watch knows how many days the month have, when the daylight saving time is, and the leap year change. And all of that witch an accuracy of 1 second in a year. I love it
I've had a simple seiko quartz day/date for years. I got caught up in the SKX madness a year ago and bought one and wore it for about 5 weeks before I switched back. My SKX is gathering dust in the back of the closet and my quartz Seiko is on my wrist 24/7. Go Quartz!
Most of my collection are mechanicals, but I also love my few quartz and solar watches. I find it very hard to find "nice" quartz watches in the affordable range. They seem to be either cheap crap watches, gaudy bling watches with overcrowded dials and cases, or gorgeous way out of my price range watches (eg Grand Seiko). I have a nice Zeppelin GMT that gains less than a second a month, and has a nice retro look. I keep looking for nice solar watches, but the range of choice is so limited. Sometimes I just want to grab a watch and go, without having to set the time, the date, and wind it. I also really appreciate the accuracy. Sometimes I use the quartz watches to set my mechanicals.
Sometimes a watch just looks so good in the watch box you can't bear to wear it. Also you can use it to set your mechanical watches. Also I don't know what font is the sarcasm font.
You know what he meant. I've sold a lot of watches I've "liked" in order to secure the funds to acquire a watch I like more. It's a common strategy for those in the hobby who are not independently wealthy.
@@mrbacchus6127 he seems scared of wearing many of his watches. The batman stayed in the box til he flipped it, that tudor stayed with him for 5 mins til his Mrs told him to sell it. He wears the explorer, stares at 2 subs which are beaters and should be getting wrist time, and he keeps hold of a handful of shitters. Not much of a collection or enthusiast.
@@Gareths-Guilty-Pleasures He's not really a collector. Definitely more of a flipper. I think the only watch he really likes is that Explorer 36mm. But the show must go on.
I learnt a lot from that and I have to say I am impressed by GS. My first ‘decent’ watch was a 1994 Omega Seamaster 300m Quartz - its still going.......probably better than I am 😂
I own three 9f GS. One of them is this one. Beautiful watch ! I also own the Snowflake… another beauty… I own several Rolex and Omega’s, but always wear the GS.
I've got the vintage GMT quartz with the green dial, it's a gem of a piece and anyone who ridicules anyone who has one just doesn't have a clue about Horology and collecting watches.
I have really connected to my Rolex Oysterquartz 17000. I love the integrated bracelet, it looks completely different to anything Rolex have produced. It’s also rare and vintage which is the icing on the cake for me!!
I have and enjoy a few quartz watches, my small G-Shock ‘Squares’ collection and a couple of 262khz quartz sweeping second hand movement watches by Bulova. The ultra high frequency quartz movements are very impressive! I have the ‘Moon Watch’ reissue and a military style piece that I forget the model reference!? Regards, Dazza.
The one I'm impressed by is the Longine Conquest VHP (Very High Precision) Quartz watch. Movement is Caliber L288, accuracy within 5 seconds per year. Perpetual Calendar, End of Life indications when battery needs changing, if the battery does run out of power, the perpetual calendar remains in sync for up to 6 months before it has to be sent to a Longines service center to be reset. The movement also has several power-savings features, one that goes into effect if the watch is detected as not being worn for a set amount of time (hands all move to 12-o'clock position and no longer move until the stem is pulled out to a certain position, where they will move back to the current time positions); the other allows you to put the watch into power saving mode if it's not to be worn for an extended length of time, where again the hands move to the "rest" position until the crown is returned to normal position, at which time the hands move to the correct time. An amazing piece of technology and a beautiful watch. The regular VHP runs $1000-$1200 range, the VHP with GMT feature rins about $1200-$1400, and I just noticed (2022) that there is noww a chronometer version at around $1700.
Back in the days I owned also a Titanium/gold Conquest VHP and it had a tolerated accuracy of 1 minute per 5 years! I'm talking the year 1989. At that time it was the most precise watch in the world! 3 years agoo I traded it in for a GS SBGN007 which is now the most precise watch on the market....
Thanks to Quartz watches I'm here!... Got my Swatch at 9 and my grey/yellow Tag F1 at 11, around 2010 I bought my first "good watch", A Tissot All Black Explorer T-touch which I still wear sometimes while road and gravel cycling.
Very nice watch . I have a longine Conquest quartz VHP . It is great. I think it will keep time +2 / -2 a year for 100 years ! Lol . The battery is good for 8 years .
Wrong. Accuracy is +5/-5 a year. Standard quartz battery is used, so battery change intervals should be just like standard Quartz movements. I'm assuming, a salesperson probably lied to you, to sell their watch
Great video and I totally agree with you. Just like mechanical movements there's a huge spectrum of quartz watches. I also have GS SBGN (005) and love the heck out of the 9f movement. Also have a Rado anadigi with an ETA quartz which is just badass. Hard to beat a quality quartz for no-fuss, durable, high accuracy, especially when traveling or trekking.
You really need a Spring Drive in the collection. No other watch in the world has a totally smooth second hand that flows like time does; it's mesmerising. For me it's the ultimate evolution of quartz, the best of all worlds.
Hey Adrian ..Always enjoy your videos. I have a 60th anniversary Grand Seiko with that fabulous 9f quartz . Has the ceramic bezel that looks stunning .This is my prize watch that I will be will’ng to my grandson (7) when I pass . With minimal upkeep “battery every 3 years” servicing won’t be require until my boy Now 7yrs will be a senior citizen..and I’ll be long gone. What a legacy to give someone you love.Have had the watch 2 months and when timed with an atomic clock app on my iPhone right on the money..Amazing.. Keep up the great work.
I am a bit biased towards the 9F movement. Got two watches with them. SBGX209 and SBGX261. Love them 😊❤️ (got one with the 8J81 too. It’s said to be up there in quality)
GS gmt are fabulous. I looked at these but didn't like the 19mm so I got a SBGN009 quartz 9F GMT which has 20mm lugs. Simply amazing watch. Absolutely fantastic workmanship. They really need to be seen to be believed.
I own one of these watches (#612 of 800 made) and I absolutely love it. I've had to change the time 3 times now to adjust between standard time and daylight savings time. It's been off by less than a second each time.
#586 Here . I get the comment about the bracelet or rather the clasp i think the bracelet is outstanding but the lack of adjustment in the clasp means you have to wear the watch looser than I'd like, but thats the same as the Moonwatch (As is the lug width). I think GS is THE best value for money brand out there , what you get for you hard earned is just so much better made than many other brands, lets not mentioned the obvious one. I don't feel any less of a connection either, most of my high end mechanical watches don't have display backs anyhow so you miss out on that part of the enjoyment of mechanical. I wont be selling mine , its the perfect travel watch . My next purchase will be the Snowflake in fact I would prefer a 9f movement with that dial over the spring drive
@@richierich9761 I switched out the bracelet for a silicone strap from Barton Watch Bands. It's black silicone with yellow underside (the yellow exactly matches the yellow of the watch highlight). Unfortunately they are not showing this particular color combo on their website presently. The band is extremely comfortable and looks very smart with the watch. I'm assuming that they will bring these back. Cheers
My daily wearer (beater) is a 6309-7040 with a 7548 movement in it. Super comfortable, a bit of history and very grab and go. The next watch will probably be a quartz GS.
In addition to automatic and manual watches I recently added a Breitling Aerospace (titanium) to my collection. It’s super accurate and a fantastic tool watch; having a timepiece which is so precise, for this horology enthusiast, is wonderful. The thermo-compensated super quartz movement not only sounds great but performs in excess of the published tolerance!
I'll but a couple 19mm natos. My sbgn005 didn't connect with me originally, but I love it now. Gained 1 second since November 2019. I love this watch...it is great to know that I have the exact definitive time on my wrist as I recently adjusted the 1 second.
The sinn ux is an impressive quartz watch not primarily because of the movement, but because of the robustness functionality and features, to which the quartz movement is absolutely indispensable!
I bought a Seiko Astron GPS solar dual time 5x53, I'm greatly impressed by it's finishing, it's incredible accuracy and atomic time keeping. The 5x53 caliber is astonishing, I recently got into the world of mechanical watches and went into a shop to buy a mechanical watch by Seiko for around 600 euro. Ended up spending 1800 for a Quartz watch, but no regrets whatsoever.
This was a super informative video. I was so impressed with the movement that I went out and bought a Grand Seiko SBGX261, thanks to you. And I'm really loving the look and size of the watch.
A quartz watch I was impressed with was my dad's old seiko 7a48 which is basically seiko's 7a28 (first quartz analogue chronograph) but with a moonphase complication. When I opened it up it was fully metal and moderately decorated. Was not expecting that at all. Sadly it no longer works but they are supposedly robust and easily serviceable so it'll hopefully be fixed soon!
I love all my mechanical watches, but for an accuracy junkie like myself quartz movements are on another level and GS quartz movements are on another planet! I have the reissue of the original 9F watch (SBGT241) and between DST adjustments it gained 0.5 seconds which is basically human error when setting the watch. That's just insanity. Also knowing that a watch will be good to go when I pick it up makes it super helpful instead of having to wind it, wait for the seconds hand to reach 0, adjust the time and date, make sure the minute hand is lined up perfectly, wait for the reference time to reach 0, and then finish. (Or just finding out that my beloved modded SKX is 3 minutes slow again😄)
A most informative and interesting review. What an incredible insight into a Grand Seiko. Good to hear positive comments and vibes on a quartz timepiece👍
Check the Longines Conquest VHP. 5 seconds per year accuracy , perpetual calendar, 40ish case diameter, clean dial. All of this for €880, or even less if you ask politely at your AD. Hard to beat.
"Gotta make some more RUclips money off this watch before I sell it. If I praise the movement inside, sell the watch, and withdraw my RUclips revenue, I'll be able to buy back the Explorer II I actually want!" - Adrian probably
To be fair to Adrian, he sold the watch and then released a video praising the movement. To be unfair to Adrian, he is going to go buy the Explorer II isn't he. XD
Great video. Just bought an sbgn003, the normal one....the prior owner kept track of accuracy for 3 or 4 years. Over all of that time it was +/- 0.0s. Heck, the manual notes leap seconds and this watch will notice those...a lot. Amazing watches - best or partner in best with "The Citizen 0100" in world by far in quartz (9f96 is a movement, not a computer). And useful. Not sure why I waited so long to "get it." Solar would have been nice, but I am ok with a battery too. Used was 2k with an extra strap. Cannot beat this anywhere...and it even looks amazing too. These are just the best GADA out there and frankly are at least as good as the explorer 1. Black with an slight amount of orange in the SBGN003 makes it frankly (to me) more useful if not as LE as the SBGN001 you had. I suspect if you got an SBGN003 used you'd keep it as you'd be using it. The cost of doing service on my prior automatics and one spring drive was just shocking....this has such a better total cost of ownership that it is a no brainer.
A little late in the game I know, but I just picked up a SBGN005. I went in to the dealer to pick up a strap for an omega watch but saw the Grand Seiko which I had been told was discontinued. Anyway, even though your videos about the 9F are some of your older ones, I’m enjoying learning a bit more about these fantastic watches (rather re-learning since I’ve seen most of your content already 👌) and I appreciate having a high-end quartz watch in my collection. It leans in to this alternative technology without taking any of the spotlight off the exceptional mechanical movements in the other watches in a collection. Great stuff Adrian thanks for sharing this one
Great video Adrian! Your explanation was quite thorough, perhaps now Jack Forester will remember meeting you and teaching you all this! If you’ll remember we met in NYC at the Blancpain boutique and talked about these watches, I was wearing (and still own) my 003 black dial version of this watch. It’s got a special place in my heart for total reliability during travel while still stoking the passion inside me. Cheers, Brad
I love my SBGN007. Gained 1 second after a year. Can’t argue with that! My other geeky quartz is my Speedmaster X-33 Skywalker, which looks rather good on a Bark and Jack NATO
Good idea. I had a fabulous, very affordable green dial Seiko kinetic quartz watch but when I was going through my “mechanical is the only way” stage I decided to give the watch away on long term loan (to my sister!). She absolutely loves it but now I have a pang of regret every time I see it on her wrist.
G shock b5000 all gold. Got to say, I didn't like it at first and cannot justify the price. Then found coupons and managed to get it for a steal. Now I am loving it. Also gotta love the James Bond Golden Eye seamster quartz :-)
Totally understand where you're coming from, sometimes - although you love it, it doesn't quite gel well. I'm also a big quartz fan, 85% of my collection are quartz, I love their grab and go nature, the accuracy and thinness of them. I haven't found the perfect one yet as most don't hit their markers as perfect as this but they still hold a place in my permanent collection.
I actually enjoy my quartz watches, and there IS a difference in them. Some are just cheap junk, but there are others that are finely tuned instruments of horological significance. They are all very accurate compared to manual or automatic watches. The fact that these type of watches can approach the accuracy of a quartz isn’t lost on me. I love my mechanical watches as well. I just don’t love their inaccuracies. When, on those seldom occasions that I need that level of accuracy, I do wear my quartz watches I definitely appreciate them. Great review, and very incite full!!!
Hello Adrian, I have owned my GS champagne dial 9f now for over six years and the accuracy is incredible as is the sheer quality of the watch. There are now some very accurate quartz watches but I have yet to see a quartz movement in new watches that match the 9f in terms of finish and looks and also hand assembled. I have to admit for me ,the movement was one of the main reasons I bought this watch as it is a good feeling to know that you have one of the best , if not the best ( in my humble opinion) quartz watches money can buy. Keep the great videos coming Cheers Dave
Owned a Casio mq24 four months now, deadly accurate 8 quid absolutely love this watch wear it everyday 24/7.seamaster 300 and ranger stuck in my sideboard drawer.how mad is that.
One of your best videos! Really liked the details and explainations of how the movement works + the microshots of the watch. Keep up the good work and happy hunting for a new time piece. Cheers!
I really like this GS and I like the yellow. I enjoy wearing my Bell and Ross BRS which has a quartz movement. I don't know much about it and I don't think it as good as the GS movement but it's nice anyway. Changing the battery is expensive, though. Oh and Bark and Jack also don't have 24 mm NATO straps, I cried when I realized this.
Adrian thanks for a nice talking;) I absolutely love this timepiece after your first review sbgn 👍😉 I collect money for this beauty, and soon will got sbgn005. My love quartz’s watches start from Sinn UX gsg9 ezm. It’s absolutely incredible extremely dive watch. Quartz there because it’s full of oil inside the case. My second quartz watch it’s really good chrono diver with 7! hands Tag Heuer Aquaracer 300 chrono. And of course soon it will be sbgn - so I think I will have 3 incredible quartz timepiece with interesting movements 😎😉😁
I dont really understand the hate either. When quartz first came out they were seen as better than automatic movements. In fact brands struggled to sell automatic. A few years later it took to sell automatic again. The first quartz were generally better made than most now with exception of grand seiko and sinn. A lot of people forget Rolex did quartz and they are now very expensive pieces because of the rarity. You cant argue with just putting one on and wearing without faf. They keep in many cases better time and rarely need a battery changing.
My first decent watch was quartz, the Tissot PRC200 chrono on a bracelet. It looked much more expensive than it was and it always got compliments. Times have moved on since then but I long for another quartz and recently came across the Yema Spacegraf which is a 40mm French Space Agency watch that uses a quartz movement for accurate time measurement in zero-g. It too is relatively inexpensive and I can't wait to pick one up! For me it's about the significance of the watch and brand whether historical or practical. I like Yema for their involvement with the French military, air force, space agency and even some motor racing inspiration. I like Marloe for their unique British designs, I like MAEN because of how much time and effort they put beautiful looking watches with STP movements that they decorate, adjust and regulate to a level only found in much more expensive in-house movements. It all means something as a watch enthusiast!
The Grand Seiko 9F quartz is estimable. I also like the G-Shock Full Metal Square quartz watch. I have a GS spring drive diver which is powered by a mainspring but which foregoes an escapement and which generates its own power without a battery to support quartz oscillation. Watch snobs dismiss spring drive as something akin to quartz watches which is in error. These alternatives to conventional mechanical watches are exciting and worthwhile.
I love my SBGN005 it's pretty much perfect apart from a couple of things, one being some of the high polish areas. I have a funny feeling your going to miss this one Adrian!
Amazed when I saw this video in my recommended list. It's my grail quartz watch I've been trying to find for over a year when I first saw it! Missed one by a couple hours a few weeks ago. With only 800 made, I'm sure it'll be continuously harder to find. I have found many Sbgn005s available, doesn't compare to the Sbgn001. Additional note here, the black dial has the movement stamped/ embossed on it giving some texture and a really nice look in different light. Subscribed to your channel after this one. Thanks and I look forward to your coming videos!
I just picked up a quartz Cartier Tank Solo. I preferred the lack of second hand and lack of date on it. For the record, I don’t hate second hands or date functions. I just preferred this particular watch without them.
To me quartz is a part of the electronic age of batteries and circuits and silicone chips. To be fair, it’s astounding the accomplishments we’ve made with computers and electronics. But there’s a different class of things that are purely mechanical, made of gears and pins and springs. They are moving parts that can be seen, and their fabrication and design represent man’s ability to create and problem solve, and use logical deduction for a solution to harness and express the concept of time in a concrete and tangible way. Humans are largely visual animals. When we see something, we believe it. We can easily visualize how a gear works, not quite so with an electrode. When things go on in a circuit, it just doesn’t hit home like a moving balance wheel. But some love their Apple Watch or quartz thinga-ma-jig and I can’t fault them for that... but it’s not for me
I have a Tag Heuer Kirium F1 CL111A quartz chronograph that actually syncs the hands to the digital readout time which is pretty cool and I believe the first ones to do that. Also easy to pull the crown and give a quick flick forward or back to "jump hours" for travel. I hardly wear it any more, maybe once or twice a year.
Great video Adrian! Probably the best....no the best explaination of the 9F movement I’ve seen. I’ve been toying with the idea of an SBGN003 for a while....it’s not the Quartz movement that puts me off, I just don’t connect with Grand Seiko like I do with other brands like Omega....but the more I see of their watches the more I’m warming to GS. Oh and a great quartz watch is the Omega Constellation 38mm....because it’s slimmer than the auto, the bracelet wraps around your wrist like a piece of jewellery and makes it so much better as a dress watch.
I like the GS quartz watches, especially the sport models. Just haven‘t found the budget yet to add one. I have a Seiko sne-109 inexpensive diver, which I quite like, though.
My favourite quartz watch is nothing fancy but I love it all the same. It's the Casio W-86 (the one with teal colour accents). It was one of my first watches as a child and now I'm on my third. I love the increased water resistance compared to the F91w and the awesome electroluminescent backlight. I prefer it to my G-shock as it completely disappears on the wrist and still I don't mind beating it. Plus the strap has large vents so your wrist stays cool, even on hot days. It's definitely my apocalypse watch and I'll always have one in my collection.
Check out the Mondaine stop2go watch. They have one that have the second hand sweep like a mechanical watch. And most interesting is the sweep around is done in 58 Sec and it paused for 2 Sec at 60 mark. This is exactly how the Swiss railroad clocks work.
I have the blue dial version of this watch on order. What sold me on this watch was that movement. Grand Seiko is like the Lexus of the watch industry. They often get overlooked by European competitors but they really are the better option for day-to-day use in the long run. For me, this is the perfect everday watch. I can set it once, use it in almost any situation, enjoy my mechanical watches, and come back to this thing ticking and ready to go.
Enjoy watching all your videos :) was so looking forward for such a video to come out on bark&jack channel. Your previous review video on the GS gmt quartz had reaffirmed my belief that its a perfect travel friendly and reliable timekeeping device to have. Just needs a nato strap for the summers.
A beautiful watch but before you buy the watch give it a very thorough check, got mine home to find the 24 hour bezel not lined up with the watch face. the jeweller says it has to go back to Japan to be fixed. So much for the legendary build quality and attention to detail.
Got given an Omega Aqua Terra Quartz with blue dial in 2005. Been skiing, diving etc with it. Has been bashed around a fair bit but withstands everything. Great accuracy and gets far more positive comments than any other watch I own. £895 in 2005…seen them going for well over £2k recently.
So many people hating on the fact Adrian makes a video about why he likes the GS 9F movement but sold it. So what? You know, you can appreciate the engineering behind a particular watch but not bond with it due to other factors. I agree with everything said in this video - it is a super high-tech quartz, unlike any other, but I could never own it because of the colour schemes and cost. For the money, I would ultimately buy something else with a mechanical movement.
@@BarkandJack Funny you bring up the Reverso. That's the next luxury watch I'd like to buy - would accompany my 116000 and 114060 well. Though, I often have doubts I would be able to bond with it much.
I enjoyed a raymond Weil rw sports chronograph for over a decade & a esq 9000slx the decade before that, suited my job & where I was with my personal/family life. Still have both in the collection, while I tend to wear my mechanical pieces, I enjoy reminiscing about events with both previous timepieces; enjoying what you own and wear is the most important aspect of the hobby. Hope all is well, thanks for the content and the work with your colleagues at Hautix, cheers A
Been digging the Ball Rail Roader (with fixed, polished bezel) gold plated ETA quartz. Rugged 37mm (blue military field dial), 100m WR, anti-glare sapphire, integrated ss bracelet... handsome, durable, accurate, and comfortable!
“I really love wearing this quartz watch I haven’t connected with and don’t wear. I don’t want to sell it, but I have to because I don’t want it anymore.”
The Longines VHP Conquest. Same thermocompensated quartz movement, same accuracy and the latest version has a phone app for calibration. Then there is also the Breitling Skyracer. Same specifications, same accuracy but with a 7 year battery life!

3x in a row at that.

I treated myself to a Grand Seiko SBGN 029 and it is stunning. I am now saving for a spring drive.
“GS Quartz movement is great....but I sold it 😂😂😂.”
Let only he who has never sold off a watch laugh without hypocrisy.
Such a scathing critique, how will he recover?
@@scottc6946 he could just alter the watch and keep it!
I have a longines VHP, same accuracy of the GS and a perpetual calendar too! Quartz is not the enemy!
Haven’t seen any videos on VHP, have you?
It's actually more accurate than the GS, I have one too
@@angelozilian7359 its a great grab and go watch because it doesn’t need to be set at all. It also looks fantastic
Go Quartz!
There is without doubt, endlessly more mechanical and engineering concepts in this watch any other mechanical piece I’ve seen! It’s tremendous!
I forget where you can get the straps again, maybe you could say it a few more times in the next video!
Lmao
I'll take it over ads in the middle of the video! Also, can confirm, they're solid straps 😊
I have mechanical watches but I also really love Quartz, in particular the Solar driven ones. There is room for both
Most of my collection are mechanicals, but I also love my few quartz and solar watches.
You didn´t wear it and now sold it? Doesn´t sound like "I like it". I mean, i don´t have one and i like it so ... good Video anyways.
Yeh he is a total bellsniff. Unsubscribing soon - about as genuine as a clingfilm jonny
I learnt a lot from that and I have to say I am impressed by GS. My first ‘decent’ watch was a 1994 Omega Seamaster 300m Quartz - its still going.......probably better than I am 😂
I have the same one but from 2012, last year they produced the quartz version. Its really a cool watch.
Daniel D'Esposito same here 👍
I own three 9f GS. One of them is this one. Beautiful watch ! I also own the Snowflake… another beauty…
I own several Rolex and Omega’s, but always wear the GS.
Regards,
Dazza.
I’m superhappy with my SBGN007. Cool green instead of screaming yellow 👍🏼
That one looks super nice in photos...! Are there also more brushed faces that make it look less flashy?
It has 20mm lugs too. I will never sell mine.
Great video ! My favorite quartz watch right now is the new Tissot Seastar 36mm. Thermocomp and advanced shock protection for $375
Thanks to Quartz watches I'm here!...
Enter: Bulova 242kHz for 1/10 of the price. The smoothest sweeping hand ever.
@@seabiscuit726142 Still Not totally smooth like Spring Drive though and not mechanically driven - so actually not even similar.
Hey Adrian ..Always enjoy your videos. I have a 60th anniversary Grand Seiko with that fabulous 9f quartz . Has the ceramic bezel that looks stunning .This is my prize watch that I will be will’ng to my grandson (7) when I pass . With minimal upkeep “battery every 3 years” servicing won’t be require until my boy
Now 7yrs will be a senior citizen..and I’ll be long gone.
It’s said to be up there in quality)
feels like I've seen this exact video on this channel about a year ago... 🤔
Yeh he is a total bellsniff. Unsubscribing soon
But not yet? How soon is now?
When you 1st made that video when you bought this watch I instantly knew you were not gonna keep it!
Cheers
The sweep ticking of the second hand is so soothing!
This watch is awesome, especially worth the ⁵second per year accuracy and GMT.
I'll but a couple 19mm natos. My sbgn005 didn't connect with me originally, but I love it now. Gained 1 second since November 2019. I love this watch...it is great to know that I have the exact definitive time on my wrist as I recently adjusted the 1 second.
Thanks! I am getting the quite new model of GMT Quartz and I am also blewn away with the specs of it. GS Quartz is very very cool.
The sinn ux is an impressive quartz watch not primarily because of the movement, but because of the robustness functionality and features, to which the quartz movement is absolutely indispensable!
Adrian, I am impressed you’ve updated your site in the videos, even this far back!
Love my 9F so much I bought another. Now have a SBGX117 ticking in sync with the SBGN003. Marvelous watches.
Got the black one, i really like it. Will keep it for life :) Thanks for letting me know even more about the movement inside my watch, learned alot!
I should have got the black one.
@@BarkandJack its not too late :)
I'd lay money on the fact that you won't keep it for life.
XD
You can admire something and not own it. Making a video praising the movement while the watch is in your possession seems a pretty sound idea to me.
DeanUGA in a vacuum, yeah. In this context? No.
I still have my first quartz watch, the Seiko Quartz LC A159-4029 in Silver from mid 1970s. Still works fine, great engineering
My SBGN007 also gains 1,5 second per year! Those 5 star 9F's are the best !
This is probably the best video on quartz watches that I have ever seen.
How about a video on other “luxury” quartz watches and their movements?
I am moving my collection to more quartz. I still love my autos, but I grab a quartz when accuracy is important.
Also gotta love the James Bond Golden Eye seamster
quartz :-)
Totally understand where you're coming from, sometimes - although you love it, it doesn't quite gel well. I'm also a big quartz fan, 85% of my collection are quartz, I love their grab and go nature, the accuracy and thinness of them. I haven't found the perfect one yet as most don't hit their markers as perfect as this but they still hold a place in my permanent collection.
Have a quartz Rolex from 1979. Awesome watch. Was never a fan of the yellow on the Grand Seiko but the build on the watch is very impressive.
I love my vintage Seiko 7A28, the worlds first quartz chronograph, I bought it in 1982 😮😮 and it still looks awesome 😀
Hello Adrian,
I have owned my GS champagne dial 9f now for over six years and the accuracy is incredible as is the sheer quality of the watch.
Keep the great videos coming
Cheers
Dave
Owned a Casio mq24 four months now, deadly accurate 8 quid absolutely love this watch wear it everyday 24/7.seamaster 300 and ranger stuck in my sideboard drawer.how mad is that.
Spring drive, snowflake, fantastic fusion, delivered in a remarkable package.
Yes, It would be lovely to have 24mm straps. Any plan to add some in the shop (for example for some Panerai)?
Still got mine. Needs a battery change. Fantastic quartz watch. 😊
On the eight of June i bought an SBGN003. When i arrived at home Adrian has sell his watch.))
GS is fantastic!
I seriously regret selling this. I should have made the video before sending the watch off. 🤦🏼♂️
Thanks for another great video Adrian! I enjoyed learning all the geeky stuff about this movement
I like your platform, just you and the watch in just a few takes. Beautiful.
But some love their Apple Watch or quartz thinga-ma-jig and I can’t fault them for that... but it’s not for me
Havent found one of these for sale yet, gutted i missed yours. Great vid again pal
Hope your thumb is okay
Great watch plus I got educated at the same time. Also a great looking video. The macro shots were fantastic.
Even though I'm late, I'm earlier than the last time we covered the greatness of the 9F movement. Wish we needed the bell on occasion.
This thing has really grown on me, beautiful piece of engineering and craftsmanship
I'm excited to see which Watch you purchase next Adrian? Keep up the good work
So many people hating on the fact Adrian makes a video about why he likes the GS 9F movement but sold it.
I’m glad you get it. I can’t own everything I like. If I bought a Reverso I’d probably sell it because I didn’t wear it. But I’d still love it.
