      Curtis Reid agreed. The ZL-1 would eat that jaguar for lunch. The grandsport has everything you need. Just a few bolt ons like exhaust, air filter, chip would have the vette pull ahead away from the Jaguar easily. Jaguar is nice but way way overpriced but even at same price its a maybe as corvette have more flair to it. Winner Corvette

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 7 лет назад +25

      Yeah, I would say the Z06 completely destroys the SVR, and actually the SVR's most direct competition is the Camaro ZL1.

    • @bradleyschey
      @bradleyschey 7 лет назад +1

      EFK93 I doubt that. The Z06 yes, but not the Grand Sport. It may challenge it more on the corners, but on the straights the SVR makes up any ground it loses and more. It is ridiculously fast. The Z06 however has the power to monster the SVR and is the one you'll want if you plan to challenge the sportscars of Germany, Italy, and Britain. Although if we are at all honest, if you are really serious about track days and winning the new ZL1 coming out soon is the car of choice. If Chevy isn't your cup of tea, the Dodge Viper ACR is your other choice sticking with American cars.

    • @bradleyschey
      @bradleyschey 7 лет назад +1

      Vernon Price I agree that the Z06 would monster the SVR. I actually had my SVR custom tuned with it putting out numbers similar to the Z06. I would love to see how it handles against the Z06. The Corvette is more so a direct competitor to the F-Type than the Camaro since both are 2 seater front engine sportscars, where as the Camaro is a much bigger and much heavier 2+2 seater coupé that most people would classify as a GT car due to it being more practical compared to the SVR and Vette. I'm not sure why they didn't do a proper track battle between the two. It was the reason I watched the video, and disappointingly it didn't happen. I think the SVR would have for surely beat the Grand Sport, but the Grand Sport is not really the right car to be testing against the SVR in the first place. It really should be the Z06. So the whole comparison was kind of fucked up from the beginning.

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 7 лет назад +7

      Bradley Schey Both the Camaro ZL1 and the F-Type SVR weigh about 3800 lbs. - there's maybe ~100 lbs difference between them or so. The Camaro is definitely not "much heavier" than the SVR. The Z06, however, is hundreds of lbs lighter than the SVR. And from the factory, the SVR has 75 fewer horsepower than the Camaro ZL1.
      GM claims the ZL1 does 11.4@127 in the 1/4 mile, so by all accounts it's faster than the SVR too. The ZL1 has done a sub-7:30 lap at the nurburgring, so it remains to be seen whether the F-Type SVR is faster than the Camaro in any way at all. Right now, it's not looking like it is.
      And that's why the SVR is really more of a competitor for the Camaro ZL1. The Z06 will just flat out destroy it.
      As far as the Grand Sport, the SVR is faster in a straight line, but around a track the Grand Sport will almost definitely be faster. Some examples from VIR:
      2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT - 2:59.1
      2015 Jaguar F-type R coupe - 3:01.0
      2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE - 2:54.8
      2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray - 2:53.8
      2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport - 2:47.1
      2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - 2:44.6
      As you can see, the SVR will have its work cut out for it even trying to beat a standard Camaro SS with the 1LE handling package, never mind the ZL1 which is much, MUCH faster. And it's not going to come close to either the Z06 or the Grand Sport Corvettes.
      At VIR at least, there are only 8 cars faster than the Grand Sport, and one of them is the Z06. The others are cars like the 911 GT3 RS, (note: only by one tenth of one second), McLaren 650S and Ferrari 488 GTB. The SVR is simply not in the Corvette's league.

    • @bradleyschey
      @bradleyschey 7 лет назад +1

      Assuming that you are talking about the 2017 ZL1, that car is actually producing even more torque than the Corvette Z06 and has a new 10-speed gearbox. I am not surprised that it pulled off a 1:29 lap at the Nurburgring. However, it is still not a direct competitor to the SVR, because it has a spacious trunk, and is a spacious 2+2 seater inside. The SVR and Corvette are direct competitors, because they are strictly 2 seaters, are more cramped for space, and have much less trunk space as well. You don't seem to understand the differences between a 2+2 and a 2 seater coupes and sportscars. The XK is more of a direct competitor to the Camaro, although since it is no longer is being produced, Jaguar does not offer an actual competitor towards it. I should also note that the Corvette, like the F-Type, is classified as a sportscar, whereas the Camaro is classified as a muscle car. I should also note that the Corvette Z06 and the F-Type SVR are also not classified as supercars, even if both companies like to market them in some aspects as supercars, they are not. At best I would consider both super sportscars. As for the Z06 and SVR, I never said that the SVR would beat it in a track battle. I said that my tuned SVR could challenge it since it produces nearly the same numbers as the Z06, with the exception of being around 200 lbs heavier and a little less torque. I should note that I said CHALLENGE not BEAT or WIN. Yes, challenge is different than beat or win. Look up the definitions. I have never put my ETG SVR up against a Z06 on track since I just took delivery of it in August and ETG did all their tuning and modifications in September. Considering my SVR, and one man in Texas, are the only two ETG tuned SVR's in the world right now and for that reason are very expensive and hard to replace, that track battle most likely won't happen anytime soon. Getting back on track, I have no doubt that the stock SVR would beat the Grand Sport on track. The Grand Sport weighs a little less than SVR, but has no supercharger, produces at least a hundred less horepower, and nearly 200 lb-ft torques less as well. It beats it in the 1/4 mile and 0-60mph times, it will also beat it on track. Yes, that time I said BEAT. Also, on a long enough straight the Jaguar will also eventually overtake the Z06 as well seeing as the SVR is a 201mph car where as the Z06 taps out at 196mph, and the Grand Sport at 175mph. I listed the data and specs below with lap times from Laguna Seca. Unfortunately, since the Grand Sport is so new, it actually hasn't been tested there yet, but I will edit this comment with the lap time for it as soon as it is conducted. Someone is going to have to take one around the track there eventually.

      Top Speed: 200mph
      Power: 575bhp
      Torque: 516 lb-ft

      Laguna Seca Lap Times
      Corvette Z06: 1:33.05
      Jaguar F-Type SVR: 1:38.75
      Corvette Grand Sport: N/A (Not Tested Yet)
      I won't even mention that the Mercedes AMG GT R, which is a direct cometitor to the Z06, BEAT it on the Nurburgring. Nor will I mention that the Nissan GTR Nismo, which is a direct competitor to the Camaro ZL1, BEAT it on the Nurburgring as well. Ooops! I just did. So, Chevy might be able to challenge and beat out the most powerful and fastest production Jaguar with their most powerful and fastest production Corvette and Camaro, but they can't beat what the Germans or the Japanese bring to the table. Interesting. I guess the Corvette and Camaro can't be put on that ivory pedestal yet.

    To each his own. I looked at both before buying and chose the GS Z07. I prefer the very distinct styling of the Corvette and the incredible handling. The Corvette exhaust note sounds more precise and less fatiguing over time. The Jag is definitely cool and a great performer but it would take a new Lamborghini or Ferrari to make me feel better than I do in my GS. Z06 Z07 is very nice as well but felt 650hp was overkill for me.

Sure, on a track we'd give it to the Vette hands down, but I don't pay 100k to drive on a track everyday and neither do most people. I pay 100k to LOVE my ride every time. To get stares, to scare the kids, and still manage to have all the luxury. And we're still talking about a very track capable car here.

      It's overpriced, for sure. At lightly used, they're a good deal though. Here in Germany, only about 10k more than a similar used C7. I had intended to trade my 997 in for a C7 this year, but had trouble fitting into it due to my height. So that was that for me. Other deciding factors: the C7, though it may be a manual, has an altogether terrible gearbox, or rather, it's the gearing that is atrocious. Basically a 4-speed with 3 overdrives. Combined with the heavy emphasis on downforce, the car's acceleration really suffers from about 100 MPH out. Maybe not relevant in America - but very relevant here in Germany as my 997 was always lacking as an Autobahn cruiser and that's something I wanted to rectify - combine that with the fact that the F-Type can be civilized as well and double as an elegant mode of transportation that I can actually show up at a client's business premises with (something that's hard to do with the C7's styling) - so used F-Type R it was for me. Still love the C7 though.

But there is this ridiculous snobbery in Europe that says yank cars can't go round corners, those people haven't driven a Vette. Glorious cars, fabulous noise and have been pretty advanced for many years, not that people over this side of the pond seem to know. Hydro-Formed chassis, MRRTD, clever implementation of a transverse spring and did I mention that noise! Well if you don't want a track tuned car, which the F-type clearly isn't, then you can just get the stingray. So that's about $55,000 vs the Jag's $120,000. Also why is Jaguar putting carbon/ceramic brakes on a car thats not tuned for the track, waist of money. Carbon brakes = track use

    • @bradleyschey
      @bradleyschey 7 лет назад +2

      Jeff K I got the carbon ceramic brakes on my SVR and let me tell you once you go carbon ceramic you don't go back. It is well worth it on the twisty back roads where the SVR is most at home and is the place it's most fun to drive. I will say however mine is custom tuned by ETG so it's actually putting out 640bhp and 578 torques. So, the added gains are a good reason for the carbon ceramic brakes.

    • @Dolby109
      @Dolby109 7 лет назад

      You must be really blazing to actually overheat a good set of regular brakes on a backroad.
      There are many cars with well setup steel brakes that work quite fine for track use, let alone backroad use.

    • @Fulloctanegarage
      @Fulloctanegarage 7 лет назад

      Jeff K Drove my last Jag an XKR on the Dragon and the standard brakes really took a beating. I think it is the weight + HP that really burden the Jag brakes over other lighter cars. The F-type is more of a GT car than a track car IMO. My XKRS is suppose to be a track car (check out our video of the autocross where we ran the XKRS, the Z06, the GTR, a 430 and a Gallardo together. ) I think mine was the most fun but it definitely had the slowest times.

    • @raymondnewbill2748
      @raymondnewbill2748 7 лет назад

      Of course you think it's the most fun, it's your car!!! People simply cannot admit another car is better. When I guarantee that the F430 or ZO6 was the most fun!!! Also, this is the R jag. It's the most track worthy one they make. The fact that they used a vette with the base sting ray engine that's 120hp short screams volume about the chassis!!! The vette deserves the titles and praise it gets. Nothing else on the planet besides dedicated track cars like a base Ariel Atom can come even remotely close to the Corvette for the price. People just can't admit that it's the current king!!! I'm madly in love with the F-Type, I'd still take the Vette on price alone. In a perfect world though, I would have both.

    • @Fulloctanegarage
      @Fulloctanegarage 7 лет назад

      Raymond Newbill Guilty to an extent, although I have driven everything personally. Certainly, personal preference weighs in. Fun does not = "best ". Fun=Fun which i think is a subjective term. The Z06 is definitely the most bang for the buck of any of the cars. I certainly would not kick one outta bed for eating crackers... lol. If anything, it made the autocross look almost too easy. Did you watch the video? You will see what I mean...

    For the money, there are better more exciting faster cars out there than the SVR. The F-Type look best when it first came out. All those add on parts and vents don't really do it for me. Also, I don't think the Grand Sport is 3200 lbs I thought it was around 3400 lbs

    • @jeffk464

      @Dolby109 7 лет назад +3

      I agree. The F-type looked better before the added splitters and spoiler (which is something I usually like, but it just doesn't work on the Jag).
      Aside from a nice interior the F-type SVR is more comparable to a ZL1 Camaro than the Corvette, and even the ZL1 is still faster.
      IMO the SVR is a good way to waste ~$60k.

    This comparison is irritating. The sound test - totally subjective and useless - they both sound good. A drag race? They are not straight line cars; certainly, the Corvette is designed for the track and there was no track time test and they are on a track the entire time. huh? Why? We have to hear all the silly giggling about how the Jag crushed the Corvette in a straight line when the Corvette is nearly half the price and is not even the Vette model competing with the SVR. Where is the Z06? I like the Jag a lot, but this comparison is massively flawed.

    Well the most expensive car will nearly always make you feel more special... Heck, I think I'd feel more special with the base grand sport Corvette with a Mustang GT350 or M2 or Focus RS for the same price as the Jaguar. Would you also feel more special with vehicles that are twice the cost of the Jaguar like the McLaren 650 or a Ferrari 488 GTB? Of course you would.
    Let's just look at which car is better overall. Performance, comfort, practically, luxury, etc and factor in the price.

    The Corvette got smoked in acceleration, and that was on a dry track. Throw in a little rain, and the Jaguar F-Type SVR would flat out disappear from the Corvette. AWD just allows the driver to go fast in real-world, changing weather conditions. Also, Jaguar includes a 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty with their car. The Corvette is a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty.

Look at the vettes and you will see mixed reactions especially with build quality and materials! That's why there's a huge difference in price because engines,torque,gears,chassis,exhaust systems are all close nowadays with top car brands however the yanks still use cheap n nasty materials with sub standard build quality on there interiors and exteriors! Why? Probably to save money and target the poorer markets because the prestige for top of the range cars in America, the brand and badge can't compete with the best British,German and Italian brands for prestige!

      Exactly the Jaguar has a deep roar to it , like an actual Jaguar or lion. It’s deep and loud and crackles gives a sense of power/danger without the high sounds of other engines , like a muscle car and sport have a child with a Mercedes/rolls luxury car and makes a Jaguar . Also it’s rare and clean you can’t place it in a category it looks sporty but also luxurious as-well as a super car in one.

      AgletDC I love the Jag more but, the Z06 does a 10.5-11 second quarter mile. It will slap a jag around any day plus turn more heads. The beauty about the jag in return though is its AWD so you can drive it all year round especially if you live in a state or area with snow! Overall the Jaguar is better but, in a race a Z06 only competes against a GTR. Not to mention how amazing the Vette is around a track while the f type loses grip on every corner (which sounds fine but, in a race where every second counts... yeahh the f type is fucked even the awd). I don't really see how you determine a winner from what they did. What was the criteria if the track performance didn't matter. The Jag was faster in a straight line and had more leather. The corvette shredded on the track and had a good interior with less leather. I guess it was just personal preference. I'd prefer the Grand Sport in dark metallic Gray with the red leather and carbon fiber interior option. Both are nice cars though.

      A Corvette interior can easily be upgraded aftermarket with carbon fiber dashboard, consoles, steering wheel and diamond stitch armrest, etc., chrome bezel, chrome knobs easily for $2-3k.

      the sound in this vid was way off. they both sound deeper than that in person... but the Jag has a menacing combined sound of deep rumble and the pops add a bonus.

      I have always been a fan of the NA pushrod V8. I feel that turbocharges and supercharges somehow spoil the raw visceral noise (sorry Hellcat). The GM LS motors to me have always sounded the best - with the LS3 in the Chevrolet SS being a case in point. I just dont get the same emotion from either Mercedes or BMW. (not including the bonkers 6.2L AMG V8 in the SLS)

      The F-Type sounds beastly, but too filthy IMO. The Corvette has a clean growling noise whereas the F-Type sounds like it's choking on something, which I don't quite prefer.
