    This is very interesting. I recently purchased a 2019 SVR and am loving it. The carbon fiber rear wing + titanium exhaust + 200 mph bragging rights were the reasons I only wanted the SVR trim. There is one thing I might want to add tho, in the rolling races, I don't think the SVR's VMAX mode was activated because the spoiler is active. In V-MAX, spoiler stays down and full power in unleashed (according to Jag). I wonder if this would mattered. V-MAX is the mode you need to activate to hit 200 mph

    You are right with your findings on the loss of power to the wheels on 4WD. This was confirmed to me a while ago by Jag Service manager. Makes you realise the 2WD is a lot better than the later model (non SVR) 4WD which only generates the same 550HP. Unless of course you drive in slippery conditions. Apparently if you run newer stickier tyres than the original P Zeros you can bring down the 0-60 times significantly on the 2WD also.

    The ZF8 has as little as 2% loss in RWD config. The rear diff might add 5-7%. The 15% WAG is for a typical automatic over past decades. A RWD R has a higher power to weight ratio, even before any of that.

    • @003590510
      @003590510 4 года назад +1

      You are correct about the 1-2% in the ZF. That is an exceptionally efficient transmission being that it has a full locking converter that locks in all 8 gears. So no slip, it has very little loss. The differential is also correct at 7% loss, being the most loss component in the drivetrain. One thing you are overlooking is the accessories and friction losses that are not insignifigant. Hod Rod magazine did a dyno special about it online about how much accessories actually pull power from the engine. A simple engine fan dyno'd 6% loss on just the engine cooling fan, you have Supercharger loss, Alternator, A/C Compressor, Oil pump, 2 Direct Injection Fuel Pumps running off the Crank and the Cams, Water Pump, and then there are frictional losses in the pulleys, cams, timing belts and tensioners and rotating assembly, Tire losses in rolling resistance, and wheel bearing losses. People incorrectly assume that modern technology has eliminated the 20% drivetrain losses from modern powerplants as I see forums with people using 5-10% loss as a regular thing. I do not think this is the case for anyone but Porsche. For FR layout, we still have 20+% DL, except manufacturers can now make more power than advertised with ease. I heard Jaguar had this engine at 650-700HP on their dyno's on development cycles. This would make sense because that is realistically what the engine would have to make to have 550HP {LEFT OVER} after total DL sapped the motor of power. We haven't even gone into heat soak and heat losses that modern Jags are known for. With more and more accessories being put in cars, I believe the DL is over 20% not under. AWD makes it even worse.

    Weight is always the enemy of cars. Drive train losses are real but it’s the extra weight of the AWD system that makes the biggest difference. Normally the front wheels are only getting 10% of the power so drive train losses are actually not that high. You can see this in the identical highway fuel economy between 2015 RWD and 2016+ AWD versions. That said, the AWD is worth the weight. Not only does it help standing starts but throw in some curves and the AWD cars have an advantage. And heaven help you if you get caught in bad weather or on a low traction surface without the AWD. Thank you for posting this video, very entertaining.

    Would love to see you both at a track as opposed to a built-up area. However, that said, owning a 2014 f type r rwd. I'm really intrigued with the differences visually over the newer model and svr version. I bought the rwd over the awd purely because of the feeling of rwd, so it's great to have those extra facts and be proved right in my ideas and opinions after all 😂 The rwd just makes you feel alive. 😉 great video and nice motor 😉

    2 great cars!
    That's a very high spec SVR, essentially all the exterior carbon that you could option (lovely colour, Ultra Blue Metallic).
    My 2018 F-Type SVR is almost identical apart from blue stitching to the quilted parts of the seats & door cards.
    That isn't suede, by the way, it's alcantara.

      @@skrrtgarage3922 An update for you, sold my SVR coupe.
      But don't worry, replaced it with a brand new SVR coupe (in Velocity Blue Premium) that had been sitting at the Jaguar dealer since March. (most car dealers were closed for several months due to COVID-19)
      Apparently it's the last 'old shaped' SVR coupe in the UK. ( AND I saved almost £40k on the list price - dealers are struggling to get rid of stock so there are a lot of 'bargains to be had👍)

    Bro, the SVR can have all of the carbon fiber bits but I still believe your R looks more sleek. I'm not a fan of the SVR's wing. I like those clean lines of the R with the active wing. Those door sills were nice tho. Spring for some of those sills and the 305's for the back tires.....the titanium exhaust and carbon breaks just don't seem like enough bang for your buck.

    • @003590510
      @003590510 4 года назад

      Sad thing is the R just isn't sleeker. The drag Cd of the R is .37 and the drag Cd of the SVR is .34. That is a really big difference not to mention there is no lift on the SVR at 200mph terminal velocity that it can achieve. There is lift on the R and it can only go 186mph, probably showing the difference in Cd with similiar power. At high speeds above 150mph, the SVR is worth it. Below 150 it cannot beat the efficiency of RWD. All race cars are RWD for a reason. I was looking at the specs of a 20' SVR and it is signifigantly faster than the 17' SVR. Like .8 seconds in the quarter mile. Wonder what they did to it. I am sure it is programming and not hardware, and I wonder if you can remap the old SVR to the 20's programming.

    @Skrrt Garage/Conner, Dude can you please ask your buddy with the SVR if he had his car in V-MAX Mode when he lost to you? I would love to know if this V-Max mode actually makes a difference in the comparison and also find out from someone in Germany if this mode is only for trying to maximize top speed. Thanks Tim
    The Jaguar Owners Manual says this:
    STORED SPOILER
    For maximum top speed (V-Max), the spoiler is stored to reduce drag. It works in
    conjunction with the front spoiler and other aerodynamic enhancements to bring
    a drag coefficient improvement of 7.5 percent and lift coefficient reduction of
    45 percent.
    V-MAX
    In order to achieve 200 mph* you must consciously prepare your F-TYPE SVR
    Coupe. Select 'Dynamic Mode' and press the deployable aerodynamic spoiler
    switch for three seconds to enable V-Max Mode. While active, a permanent symbol
    appears on the instrument cluster. In this mode the spoiler remains stored at all
    speeds, keeping drag to a minimum.
    REAR UNDERFLOOR AND DIFFUSER
    The smooth rear underfloor reduces drag, while the rear diffuser works with the
    rear underfloor to manage airflow, adding to the stability of the F-TYPE SVR.
    *Always

      @@skrrtgarage3922 Yes, that would be Awesome if you can do another one with him being in V-Max Mode. It is probably worth noting that RWD R Coupe has a bit shorter gearing than the SVR, which adds it another advantage in acceleration except from lower weight and less drivetrain losses. We have the same situation - I own 2014 R Coupe and my friend has 2017 SVR. In rolling race, I win everytime... and same as on your film - it is not by just a hint. R Coupe is just faster when AWD and even SVR, when they lose their initial grip advantage. Also as written, RWD can give you more fun ;) If you want a really nasty exhaust, I once heard R Coupe with Capristo catback. You can scare people off the pavements with it ;)
