    You admitting to perusing the Jaguar forums and the spreadsheet is incredible, and the reason I kept watching this video. Props dude, please keep these videos and amount of detail up. All the small details and recommendations/fixes... man this is possibly the best buyer's guide I've seen.

      I agree wholeheartedly...AWESOME buyer's guide!
      This dude is finally helping me narrow down my decision after 2 years of contemplating this (not to mention seeing if the prices were going to drop, and they really haven't; they've been hovering between $48 and 55k the entire time).
      Now the only thing I have to decide is weather to go with the 2016 or newer AWD version, or go with the RWD.
      You see, my wife and I will be taking turns between that and a Porsche Macan Turbo. I know the RWD can be a handful, plus it rains a lot in Florida. She's used to the AWD stability of the Porsche, and it seems extremely safe on the highway, even in the pouring down rain; it's imperative I keep my wife safe with our choices, and just because I might like throw in the ass out and around corners, it could be pretty dangerous for her👍🏻

    • @tankertoad1
      @tankertoad1 3 года назад +3

      @@Noahswope77 There was an issue with one of the active exhaust valves, the weather stripping was loose and the front air splitter was broken. All stuff mentioned on the video. The dealer replaced the splitter for me before I bought the car and the other issues were taken care of later under the factory warranty. Also if you are buying a car, have the AC serviced if possible. These cars use a relatively small charge of refrigerant and I had issues with the system freezing up. 1. Injectors: Fouling up. Prevent with additives.
    2. Differential: Sludgy oil. Change often. The oil. Not the Diff.
    3. Supercharger Coupler: Listen to engine cold from outside. If it rattles the rocks need changing.
    4. Exhaust Actuator: Try restart.
    5. Carpet sagging: Practice good hygene.
    6. Panel misalignment. Communicattion (with dealer) is key.
    7. Seat Bolsters. Every sports car has this problem. But this one doesnt.

    Well done overview, thanks. For folks interested in purchasing an F-Type, I wanted to share my experience. I've owned 3. 2015 Type R, 2018 Type R, and currently drive a 2019 SVR. My daily, 10K miles per year commuting into NYC on crappy roads regardless of weather. I've literally had zero issues, including no bent wheels which is a miracle in this area. I've owned several high end sports cars. This model made me a Jag convert. For those that intend to track their car, I wouldn't recommend it. Not suited to that environment.

      Per Harry on Harry's Garage the wheels (and all of the suspension) has to pass the Land Rover test....no damage after a 45mph curb strike. So, toughest sports cars in the world. I have had two porsches and both after a 45mph hit would likelyhave hundreds of dollars in damage...wheel would just be the start of things. Subaru too.....these Jaguars (I have a v6 coupe) are amazing. Someday people will figure it out once they run from the hype of the 911 after a bore scoring issue....and these will be the next big thing.

    Another great video and Let’s be honest, if clogged up injectors (normally caused by using regular gas) and having to change the diff oil at 40k is the only issues with any car its amazing.
    1 issue you haven’t mentioned that I have is the battery fault. Mine is a 2017 FtypeR and the low battery warning came on a few times, 4 months after purchase and the dealer advised that this is a common issue with the battery, they checked the battery and had approval to change under warrantee, roll forward another 6 months and the fame fault again, Its a common enough issue that dealerships have a special tool to test the batteries and send the info back to the head office so anyone with a failing battery or low power should definitely push to get it replaced.
    Drive safe and enjoy your R

Turned out to be the rear right parking brake motor was stuck on and wouldn’t disengage. Connor, I am totally geeking out on all your RWD F-Type R posts. Your passion is contagious and I feel like I am now on a second honeymoon with my own RWD F-Type R. As for this video, I ran out right after watching and sure enough the adhesive for that weatherstripping in the trunk on mine had failed (never thought to look before). The 3M weatherstrip glue did the trick. I also just had my dealer implement a couple of the Technical Bulletin’s for rattles you flashed up on the forums. I had almost given up, but once I called out the bulletin by number, they fixed it no charge. Great stuff. Keep them coming.

    Cause of injector failure is water running off the bonnet through the vents into the engine. It pools and sits where the injectors sit in the head, causing failure and corrosion. Later models had a protective piece of plastic on the engine bay to allow water to run off forwards.

I was shocked at its reliability and the dang thing still looks cool all these years later. Think Ford own them then. I’m a PORSCHE guy but I am switching to the F...gonna get one soon. I currently own two F-Types. There are three more very needed things to look for. 1) Has the water pump been replaced. They are a very common failure point. Probably 60% failure by 50k miles 2) Sticky buttons and 3) on coupes look for the leather pealing away from the gauge cluster. I have seen this as an issue in 15-17 coupes

    Hi there from the UK.
    You've definitely saved a lot of people a lot of time and effort covering these issues.
    I've never been a Jag fan as I do hark back to the bad old days of reliability and the "pipe and slippers" image of the old cars but I'm considering moving over to a 3L V6 R-Dynamic.
    I'm a Porsche Cayman owner of 5 years at present and I've always thought that I've arrived at the pinnacle of my car ownership as the Cayman is just so good, but I've always admired those gorgeous looks of the F-Type and was surprised at how affordable they are.
    I may come to regret it if I leave Porsche and join Jag but what gets me interested is the fact that my budget of around £45k will allow me to get an 2019 F-Type with extremely low miles of say 15-20k as opposed to a 2010 Porsche 911 with around 60k miles on it.
    Do I go for the older 911 with virtually no depreciation and possibly investment potential along with its bullet proof build and reputation or the newer F-Type. ?

    • @skrrtgarage3922
      @skrrtgarage3922  2 года назад +1

      That is a question for the ages haha. I think it depends on your budget. The Porsche is a known commodity with seemingly fixed prices, whereas the Jag may suffer a little depreciation.. but who knows it may hold steady.
      The beauty about cars is that you can change them. Its not like a marriage or anything. I would recommend you try the Jag.. if you dont love it. you can switch back to a Porsche pretty quickly.

    Well done, good advice there! A couple of comments though from someone who's had the V6 engine for more than 3 years:
    - The most common problem by far with these engines wasn't mentioned in the video - the coolant system and water pump. The plastic coolant system pipes and water pumps fail on all these engines sooner or later. Unless those components have been replaced you always have to watch out for coolant leaks. Some parts have been redesigned by JLR throughout the years.
    - Another issue worth mentioning is the timing chains and tensioners. They may wear out over time and worst case lead to catastrophic engine failure. The chains and tensioners were redesigned two or three times throughout the production of the engines, so the newer the engine the lower the risk of that issue.
    - These are not Ford blocks. These engines do have some FoMoCo ancillaries but the block is 100% Jaguar and designed by Jaguar although it's assembled in a Ford engine plant in the UK.
    - Injector problems are probably mainly relevant in the US and other countries with low quality gas. In Europe we usually feed these engines 98 octane gas which is much better for the engine.

    • @skrrtgarage3922
      @skrrtgarage3922  4 года назад +1

      That’s really useful information! I have heard about the coolant and water pump issues, but I haven’t really heard much about timing chains or tensioners.
      Where did you hear the block wasn’t supplied from ford? I read that it was in a few different places but who knows.
      Thanks for the detailed write up, again this is good information.

    Great video! I bought the new 2018 F Type R out of the showroom and noticed the carpet was detached and falling off under the console on the passenger side a few weeks after driving it so when I got my stereo upgraded 3 months ago they replaced the passenger side carpet. Also those rings that hold the shield over the truck broke off. It broke the first month and I barely even opened the trunk. The other thing I would like to mention is I had only 15,000 miles on my car and my back tires became so bald that I just replaced them with new P Zeros for almost 1,000. Other than these things I absolutely love the car! I enjoy driving everyday! I’ve owned many sport cars and have to say it’s the most fun car I’ve ever owned 👍🏻😀

      Same here, I got a C7 but it's hard to switch to Jags. Corvettes are more reliable in my opinion and the parts + Maintinance is much much cheaper. And you can find spare parts and sell it easier and faster. C7 looks bad ass too and it's catchy to the eyes. It looks like a Ferrari but the Jag looks awesome too

    A good overview of the F-Type,one thing i would add is the injector failure on the V8 is as you say fairly common,however in most occasions the Injectors seize in the cylinder head & the only way to remove them then,is a cylinder head removal,which of course would run to a very costly repair bill.

    Great video! I don't own one but am really wanting one in the near future and have been researching the different repairs for them. My question is, do these cars just seem to go and go without many issues? I haven't been able find any videos where say changing the water pump is done, or thermostat change out , because I know with BMW's that is something your expected to change just because they fail, granted this seems to be a far superior car vs an M3 or M4. Have you had to change the shocks on it or any suspension parts? If so, how easy was it and what kind of price for the parts? Thanks for any info.
