I know this is old, however, I had been under the impression that regular prescriotion glasses that transition protect my eyes from sun damage. Fast forward 8 years, and my eye exam today revealed some sun damage. I was looking at the oakleys that wrap around for more protection and I am very active and was super bummed my prescription does not work any of the wrap around style, so I ordered the jawbreaker with prizm black (11% light through) no prescription, then the flack jacket 2.0 with prizm black polarized (9% light through) prescription. Can't wait to get them in and start using them. I have never had sunglasses, and your channel sold me on the brand. Hope they live up to the hype.
Love to hear that! I think you'll be surprised at how well they perform for a variety of sports and environmental conditions. When you get them, let us know what you think! 🔥
Very helpful, thank you! I just got a pair of used split shots from someone and I love the frame. The lens is OK but I do not like my eyes showing thru so now I know I need to move to the Black Iridium. I do LOVE my Radar EV path glasses with the deep water polarized lenses. (Thank you SportRX!) They are truly the most comfortable sunglasses I have ever put on. Big hopes for the split shots for dress attire and other occasional use, just gotta swap out the lenses so my eyes are hidden better. As usual, SportRx delivers the knowledge. 👊
I had such a lens, but I replaced it with a prism daily polarized lens. It was too dark in the shady places. but true: it was much better in the really sunny day (contrast and colors was amazing)
Something that will let more light through the lens is preferred. PRIZM Tungsten or PRIZM Ruby would be more optimal. We should have review about both dropping in the next few days! In the meantime, you can check out more information about PRIZM here: www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-prescription-lenses/

I Need a lens that is NOT polarized (so i can see the HUD in my car), and with NO mirror-coating so that my car can See my eyes to enable self-driving features. Is there a PRIZM option? Or what lens would you recommend otherwise for driving (on the road)?
Hello! A semi-translucent non-mirrored lens should work with eye tracking systems in self-driving cars. Most Oakley Prizm lenses have either a subtle or solid mirror. But there are many lenses from other brands without a mirror that should work like RayBan's G-15 lens, for example. SportRx can also craft a custom Rx lens for this purpose as well.
I bought a pair of Prizm black Holbrook XLs and the manufacturer's note said that the Prizm Black lenses were not suitable for driving and road use. I sent them back.
hello guys, my question is related to whether this model of pirzm black polarized lenses can be used to drive a car, according to the manual it is not recommended, but I want to see what your opinion is, thanks.
So the black has a bit of a mirror finish? I've been buying the mainlink with grey lenses because they're closer to black, but don't have that mirror finish that I'm not a huge fan of. With that said, should I avoid the prizm black?
Hi there! PRIZM Black Polarized will be the darkest. The polarized filter on the lens cuts glare and offers your eyes maximum protection from the sun. You can learn more about PRIZM Polarized lenses here: www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-polarized/ Thanks for reaching out!
Hello. I got Prizm black polarized for me to use while driving and it says in the paper that comes with it "not suitable for driving and road use". Can you please enlighten me about this matter? I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Hey there! It serves more as a recommendation than a warning. Many people, especially those in bright desert climates, opt for the Prizm Black Polar to use while driving and have no issues. The reasoning for the warning pertains to the vlt or visible light transmission in addition to the polarization. Polarized lenses can negatively affect depth perception for some people. Combine that with a low vlt of 11%, and you run the risk of losing out on key details in the road ahead, especially on overcast days or in low-light environments.
The Prizm Black polarized will make it very difficult to see clearly at night. Opt for a clear, or transitions, lens paired with an Anti-Reflective coating for any low light or night time driving! 🚗😎
Well I was injured in 2006 ...well jumped and beaten with a wooden bat..so the impact some how gave me what some call floaters in my vision..small pieces of tissue that float now near and around the back of your eye ball..and they block light and I see permanent small shadows that in time I trained my eyes to look passed and they fade away..no big deal..I still have better than 20/15 vison..But bright conditions make it difficult to focus passed..I own a pair of oil rigs I purchased second hand..I think they are black ir prizm..They are the best pair I've ever owned!!!! Hi there! Thanks for sharing your story with us. We are happy PRIZM lenses were able to help you through some tough times! PRIZM Sapphire is a great choice! Slightly lighter than PRIZM Black but very ideal for sunny California weather!
Prizm Black has a lower VLT and subtle mirror compared to the grey. If you're light sensitive, i'd recommend the black but the grey will allow a bit more light to pass through the lens if you want a lighter tone.
Hi guys! Is there any iridium in the new Prizm lenses? I currently have some Batwolfs with black polarised iridium lens.i really like the mirrored effect..
Hello! Just about every Prizm lens has either a subtle (also referred to as 'flash') or solid mirror on top of the base tint even without 'Iridium' in the name. For example, the Prizm Dark Golf lens uses a flash silver mirror on top of the rose copper base tint. Hope this helps!
Hi there, really good video. Question, in the manufacture’s info it’s mentioned that they are no good for driving, is there any reason why? Btw, I got the NFL version!
I’m trying to choose between the Prizm Black Polorized and the Black Iridium Polorized on Frogskins. Which is visibly darker from the outside view. I’d prefer no hue on the outside just which is the darker black?
Hey Matt! The Prizm Black appears less reflective than the Black Iridium, plus you get the benefit of Oakley's Prizm lens tech, which boosts colors and enhances contrast. With an 11% VLT it's one of the darkest lenses Oakley has to offer. Prizm Black Polarized all the way 🤙😎
Hi Roman! We would recommend PRIZM Grey. It is essentially PRIZM Black without the iridium(mirror) coating and it functions similar to PRIZM Daily. Thanks for reaching out!

Hello! The blocking out of harmful short-wave blue light combined with the rusty rose tint of the FL-1 lens is what provides relief to those experiencing symptoms of eyestrain and other light-sensitive/triggered conditions. However, the VLT rating is somewhat high (around 50%) compared to the Prizm Blacks 11%. This means less light is making its way to the eye of the wearer. This can certainly assist with providing some relief, though the base tint of the Prizm Black is grey and doesn't include blue-light-blocking properties. Luckily, you can customize a lens with SportRx brand lenses that combines the benefits of a rose base tint, a blue light-blocking coating, and polarized tint with a low VLT similar to that of the Prizm Black. Hi, I'm looking for the PRIZM lenses with the highest mirror effect, that obscures my eyes as much as possible (I would like the lenses to be black or silver). At approximately minute 3:37, you say that this doesn't have the most mirror effect, what lens does it have? Thanks in advanced
Hey Nick, while the Prizm Black doesn't have the most reflective solid mirroring, the combination of the polarized dark grey tint with the black mirror will do the best job at preventing onlookers form being able to see your eyes through the lens. The Prizm 24K works great at hiding your eyes as well, though the bright Gold mirror will definitely attract more eyeballs.
Thanks for the video, I’m wondering about model wheel house between grey or black prizm for my boyfriend. Which you recommend for someone exposed to a lot of sun light? Thanks
If he's fairly sensitive to bright light i would recommend the Prizm Black. The lower VLT (Visible Light Transition) will help to releive eye strain without sacrificing contrast in his field of view.
There's no Prizm 'Dark' option with exception for Prizm Dark GOLF which has a base tint of deep rose paired with a silver flash mirror where the Prizm black is mostly grey with a lower VLT (Visible Light transmission %) meaning it blocks more light from passing through the lens. Hope this helps!
Hi Dav! The Prizm Black lens uses a grey base tint with just a touch of rose copper so they indeed appear much more neutral in tone without sacrificing contrast.
Hi great review. I can’t decide between this black lens or go for a coloured lens. Please help I must order today in time for my Cape Verde Holiday. :)
Prizm black has a purple tint and I dislike purple can't stand it but after a minute or so the purple tends to kind of fade off and the lens does good. The brighter the more the lens is appreciated by bringing out color. Doesn't do well with haze Unfortunetly you will indeed need a hat no way around it. Best Oakley lens I have tried yet is the black irridium. Kills the haze can look around at the horizon during sun set or rise no problem the lens is amazing. A massive trade off though one for sharp pretty colors especially during bright sunny days in all the seasons but winter of course. To bad Oakley is technically a Chinese sunglasses now. Company may not be but manufacturing is.
Prizm Black is the enhanced version of the Black Iridium. The term 'Iridium' was coined by Oakley pertaining to their mirrors. There is no Prizm Black Iridium option. Hope this helps!
best bright day lenses ever However, if its a cloudy day, or you have to go from very bright to not so bright, (like pilots) they are too dark. they are 11% transmission, and you need something about 20.
Hi there! The main difference is the PRIZM contrast you will experience. Check out this video to learn more about PRIZM and the contrast it provides: ruclips.net/video/wvNDEkPeAsw/видео.html&feature=emb_title
I'm really digging the Holbrook Metals (Gunmetal/Black Prizm Polarized Lens). I'm just hung up on the lens itself... I haven't seen it in person, but it seems like it's just a grey/neutral base lens, so I'm confused on what makes it 'Prizm' if this is the case. Is there actually a slight rose color tint in the base? I typically like the bronze bases with the extra contrast so a little rose would be nice. Thanks for your time!
Hi Shaun! Great question! PRIZM Black has a grey base so you don't get as much contrast as some of the other PRIZM lens options. We would recommend PRIZM Tungsten for extra contrast boost because it has a bronze base. However, you can always check out some of the PRIZM Sport options too because many of those have a rose base: www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-sport-lens-technology/ Hope this helps. You can always contact one of our opticians if you need more help deciding which is best for you: www.sportrx.com/contact

Hello. I sometime come accross a lens called Przim back irridium. Is this the same one? I also see one called prizm daily that looks quite the same, is it also the same lens? Thanks.
Hi there! PRIZM Black Iridium and PRIZM Black Everyday are the same lens. PRIZM Daily has been phased out now but was more similar to PRIZM Grey. It is a lighter tint than PRIZM Black. Hope this helps!
Hi Dhexz! Prizm is not a coating, it is Oakley's lens technology. Here's a blog about it for better understanding: www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-prescription-lenses/.
I just got a set of PRIZM black lenses for my Sliver XL's. I had the 24k Iridium on there before and loved the styling but I really wanted a PRIZM lens. It's taking some adjusting but I can see these being 10x more useful in super bright areas like the sand dunes. My 24k Iridium lenses still felt bright at the dunes, so hopefully these help. But, I can tell already I won't want to wear them as much on more overcast days since they are so dark. I might need to pick up another pair of Sliver XL's if I can find them for the not super bright days lol.
Black prizim lense with 13% light entry would be perfect. I guess that's why the Tungsten brown is a great option right now. I have both in my Mercenarys 😍 for that 115 Vegas sunny days. Thanks guys
Hi!! I wonder... My Turbine black polarized % of light transmition... Is 16% 🤔 But this black prizm polarized has 11%.... That info is right? I have troubles with flashes of sun on windows or cars. And need to replace my polarized. Thank you!!!
Hi there! The VLT % seems to change here and there a bit. Oakley's website currently says 11% and that makes sense with it being one of the darkest PRIZM options available. You can see the VLTs of all PRIZM lenses here: www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-prescription-lenses/ Hope this helps!
Hello! So if Prizm Black = iridium coating What is the difference between Prizm Black Polarized and Black Iridium Polarized? One is 10% and the other 11% light transmission but other than that is the only difference?
Hi Oscar! Great question! PRIZM Black polarized has a polarized filter on the lens that cuts glare. Check out our PRIZM polarized guide to see why a polarized lens may be preferred: www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-polarized/
There is no such thing as "Prizm Black Iridium." Prizm Black and Black Iridium are two different lenses. I know because I recently bought some Holbrook XL in Prizm Black Polarized (oakley OO9417-0559) for my dad and some replacement Black Iridium Polarized (oakley 41-834), and the iridium are completely neutral in color (hence no warming), and the prizm have the typical rose / burgundy hue. I'll make a youtube video comparison.
Hi Manoj! Except for glass lenses, any lens material will succumb to scratching if not properly cared for. This is especially true for mirrored lenses. Best way to avoid this is to keep them in a hard case when they're not on your face. That way you don't have to replace! 😎
I just got the prism black to replace a worn black irid lens. The prism black has somewhat of a brown shade unlike the black irid that has grey. I still prefer the old oakleys. Quality has gone down sice Luxottica

Does the prizm black have more or less of the mirror finish then the iridium? Also, does a polarized lens effect the mirrored look?
PRIZM Black features an iridium(mirror) coating on the outside. The polarized filter will not affect the aesthetic from the outside.

How do you think Prizm black differs from prizm dark?
There's no Prizm 'Dark' option with exception for Prizm Dark GOLF which has a base tint of deep rose paired with a silver flash mirror where the Prizm black is mostly grey with a lower VLT (Visible Light transmission %) meaning it blocks more light from passing through the lens. Hope this helps!
Are these more color neutral? I tried my friends Sapphires and i love the contrast, but not a fan of redi-ish hue on everything.
Polarized Grey with a Blue mirror would be my recommendation for coastal deserts!
Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
Is prizm black the same as prizm black iridium?
Prizm Black is the enhanced version of the Black Iridium. The term 'Iridium' was coined by Oakley pertaining to their mirrors. There is no Prizm Black Iridium option. Hope this helps!
I've got these lenses for my Jawbreaker's, they work amazingly well in bright midday sun.☀️😎
Hi Craig! Aren't they perfect for sunny conditions?! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
best bright day lenses ever However, if its a cloudy day, or you have to go from very bright to not so bright, (like pilots) they are too dark. they are 11% transmission, and you need something about 20.
Thanx guys for your answer about prism Sapphire lenses!
Any time Alexey! Thanks for tuning in!
What is the difference between the polarized prism black and the polarized iridium black?
Are prizm black polarized slightly mirrored?
Yes, a subtle black mirror
What's the best color, style Holbrook for lake fishing ? Thanks
Best Oakley lenses for Lake fishing are Prizm Rose gold Polarized or Tungsten Polarized! Also check out SportRx's Freshwater Green lens for freshwater fishing conditions 🤙🎣
Whats the difference between the prism grey and prism black?
PRIZM Black has an iridium(mirror) coating on the outside and PRIZM Grey does not. This makes PRIZM Black an overall darker lens.
Is there a mirror prism black? Looking for mirror black if available?
Yes, PRIZM Black features an iridium (mirror) coating. Although it may not be very noticeable in this video, it becomes fully active in sunlight.
@@sportrxeyewear thanks!
Is prizm just a coating? What can u say about prizm bronze?
I might need to pick up another pair of Sliver XL's if I can find them for the not super bright days lol.
is the prizm black lens mirrored ??
Hi Ryan! Yes it is! The iridium mirror coating is the key differentiation between PRIZM Black and PRIZM Grey. Thanks for reaching out!
If this one is prizm back, and you say that it has iridium, why the Clifden Prizm Snow Black Iridium has a wine color lenses and iridium on its name?
That is because PRIZM Snow Black and PRIZM Black are two different lenses. PRIZM Snow Black is a bit darker than PRIZM Black.
It’s a great lens I just got a pair of frogskins with the polarized option
Great choice, Nick! Thanks for tuning in!
Great video!! Very informative..
Thanks for tuning in!
Black prizim lense with 13% light entry would be perfect. I guess that's why the Tungsten brown is a great option right now. I have both in my Mercenarys 😍 for that 115 Vegas sunny days. Thanks guys
They're both amazing, right?!
@@sportrxeyewear yes they are. I get compliments on the Mercenary's with the Tungsten brown lense.
What frames are those???!
The one and only Oakley Holbrook! 👉www.sportrx.com/oakley-holbrook.html
Wat material are these lens made up off
Plutonite- it is high-grade polycarbonate blend proprietary to Oakley. Very impact resistant and durable.
Good vid guys. If I call. I’m going to ask for Tyler to ask him to sing for me! I like your Prizm ruby song. Goodbye ruby Tuesday! Lol
Hi Simon! You got it dialed! Tyler is your man!
Hi!! I wonder...
My Turbine black polarized % of light transmition... Is 16% 🤔
But this black prizm polarized has 11%....
@@sportrxeyewear it means the blacl prizm polarized its better for bright light? A very sunny day? I mean better than black polarized?
Thank you!!
Hello!
So if Prizm Black = iridium coating
What is the difference between Prizm Black Polarized and Black Iridium Polarized?
I got scratches on these ones.. not very tough.
Hi Manoj! Except for glass lenses, any lens material will succumb to scratching if not properly cared for. This is especially true for mirrored lenses. Best way to avoid this is to keep them in a hard case when they're not on your face. That way you don't have to replace! 😎
@@sportrxeyewear yes but the case I got with the glasses was of cloth.. and the seller said the glasses are very tough, and so don't worry about it 🥺🤭
Hello, is this lens good for driving?
Yes, they work well for driving. We recommend black polarized for maximum glare reduction on the roads.
SportRx thank you!
that is protect color want I ordered in my new glasses
I just got the prism black to replace a worn black irid lens. The prism black has somewhat of a brown shade unlike the black irid that has grey. I still prefer the old oakleys. Quality has gone down sice Luxottica
Damn I found this glasses had no idea what I had till someone offered me money when I told them I had found them.
I guess I don’t need it to be polarized
Hello from algeria my dream have oakley if you have old glasses give one free
