  • This is a look at Aurizon’s Melbourne to Perth container service which runs three times a week to and from Melbourne. This was mainly put together to document the GWB & GWU class locomotives that frequent as the motive power for this service.
The GWB class is a relatively new locomotive, the first batch being entered into service in 2019. Six of these GT46C-AC Gen IIs were manufactured all together (GWB101-06) by progress rail. They’re powered by an EMD 710G3C engine and have a traction power of 3356 kW. The footage shown here was captured on the first occasion a GWB had run to Victoria. We also cop a look at GWU014 heading 7MP1, the GWU is a slightly older loco, manufactured by UGL in Broadmeadows, NSW. The first nine entered service in 2012, however two more were entered in 2020 and four more in 2021. Eleven of these are operated by Magnetic Rail Group, and four are operating under Aurizon. The second part of this video shows GWU014 Hauling 7MP1 through the western plains towards Adelaide.

This is an amazing video with great camera positioning and close-up shots. I especially liked the footage from the car, which really highlighted the speed of the train with the "screaming" locomotives. Fantastic video in every way, well done 👏 👍
