He looks like one of those people in Rembrandt paintings. The background, guitar and atmosphere is also of one of those paintings... who knows; maybe Rembrandt himself is the cameraman!
One of my absolute favourite pieces and it sounds wonderful on your 11-string guitar with those deep bass notes. Thank you so very much for posting this video; for me the definitive version of simply beautiful music. Bravo Göran.
Bravo! I first heard John Williams play this, and it has become one of my favorite pieces. Listened to it a lot when my father passed away. I love the music’s melancholic happiness, if it makes sense.
One of my guitar heroes for so many reasons... those unforgettable recordings of Bach, Schubert, The Beatles and also the guitar concertos with orchestra... and the famous concert in Japan. A giant of the instrument.
A beautiful piece and beautifully played. It is very interesting to watch and hear the additional bass strings. The smile of Göran at the end warms my heart.
Amazing, Mr. Söllscher! I love your albums on baroque music, the additional strings made the guitar sound so lute-y and warm. As an amateur classical guitarrist, I inspire myself a lot on your interpretations. Greetings from Brazil!
I still have very fond memories of a concert you gave in St Mark's Church in Edinburgh in the 1980s, for the Edinburgh Classical Guitar Society, and joining us in the pub afterwards for a beer. Beautiful playing as always!
I am so happy I stumbled across your channel. Guitar music like this doesn’t get the recognition it deserves; it’s a lost art in a lot of ways. I love what you’re doing!
Hace algún tiempo ya había subido una Chacona también de Leopold Weiss, es fascinante este compositor, gracias por la excelente interpretación y un saludo desde Zamora, Michoacán, México.
This work reminds so much of the major sections of the Bach Chaconne. The simple happiness conveyed by the music just makes you drift off. The way Goran lets the bittersweet music speak for itself is something I really appreciate. I had a play through this work tonight and its just as enjoyable to play as to listen to. Love your interpretations Goran, you are a true master of music.
Wonderful ! Baroque music has this almost magical ability to move my soul and make me cry specially when played on classical guitar. Thanks a lot for sharing your superb version.
I love the sound of that guitar, how the bass strings sound so profound. Furthermore she is a very beautiful piece of art as a wood sculpture. Thank you again, Mr. Söllscher. The days are better with your music videos.
Wow! I've been oil painting lately, and when I discovered your channel I immediately burned through listening to it all while I paint / work on projects, thanks so much for posting these videos! I've especially loved your Beatles covers and Bach, I look forward to hearing more!
You are a unique guitarist with a unique guitar. Nobody can play this beautiful instrument like you and nobody interprets these pieces so beautifully. Thank you for sharing!
Love it! This passacaille, the Ciacona in G Minor, the two Tombeau and the L'infidèle suite are not only Weiss' finest pieces, IMO, but they are among the finest pieces from the Baroque period for any instrument. If you ever record a "Söllscher Plays Weiss: Baroque Music by the Composer who Inspired Bach" CD, I'll be the first in line to purchase it:-)
I recently got an 11-string guitar that looks exactly like this one. It's a joy to play but it will be several lifetimes before I'm able to make it sound like this!
Sight reading the music and playing impressive. The eyes show discovery in the craft of wood shedding. It’s be pretty cool to see this master guitar player, have a little history, to the piece, things like my first time through, or this piece took 6 months to master. Supercool Andres Segovia vibe. Excellent
Great! It's a pity that the right hand is almost out of frame, because we amateurs like to watch all details about the playing of someone who is able to make easy what is really hard (no sé si mi inglés se entiende bien). Thanks for this performance.
Wow, that was so pretty! I remember seeing a transcription in the Altguitarren Book by Borje Sandquist that had the basses tuned 7-11= D# B A# G# F# to be able to play the descending basses like the original. The only problem with that is that is that it messes up all the other pieces you play.
Exakt det tempo jag vill ha i stycket! Brilliant spelat Göran! Många kör den för snabbt. Men det är min åsikt. Har länge brottats med detta stycke. Ska man köra repris? Hur lång drill? Ja du vet!
Mr. Söllscher: As you transposed this to C Major to accommodate the 11 string guitar, is your guitar tuned a minor third higher, as usual, OR, are you using standard tuning for this performance ? Thank you for your help and Happy New Year. :) Antione
