- This is one of my favourite baroque pieces and was originally written for baroque lute by the guy who challenged Bach to an improvisation duel! ..nuff said
The beautiful guitar by Zebulon Turrentine is a work of art in itself. If you’re interested in owning this collectible, amazing sounding instrument get in touch here ⬇️

Strangely there’s a copyrights claim from “Amanda Cook”?

Born in Grottkau near Breslau, the son of Johann Jacob Weiss, also a lutenist, he served at courts in Breslau, Rome, and Dresden, where he died. Until recently, he was thought to have been born in 1686, but recent evidence suggests that he was in fact born the following year.
Weiss was one of the most important and most prolific composers of lute music in history and one of the best-known and most technically accomplished lutenists of his day. He was a teacher to Philip Hyacinth, 4th Prince Lobkowicz, and the prince's second wife Anna Wilhelmina Althan.
In later life, Weiss became a friend of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach and met J.S. Bach through him. Bach and Weiss were said to have competed in improvisation, as the following account by Johann Friedrich Reichardt describes:
"Anyone who knows how difficult it is to play harmonic modulations and good counterpoint on the lute will be surprised and full of disbelief to hear from eyewitnesses that Weiss, the great lutenist, challenged J.S. Bach, the great harpsichordist and organist, at playing fantasies and fugues."
Sylvius Weiss's son Johann Adolph Faustinus Weiss succeeded him as a Saxon court lutenist. - Видеоклипы
I was moved. Near the end I was almost crying; great music. No poses, no coreographic movements, the technique is so excellent that it disappears. Everything serving the music. Thank you Alan 🙏🏻. What a wonderful artist you are. 👏🏼😊
🙏❤️
The sustain on that instrument is unreal.
It really is. Like a totally new kind kind of classical guitar!
S.L. Weiss is a totally underrated baroque composer.
Great playing.
Agreed 👍🏻
One of the best performances of Weiss I've heard...bravo!!!
❤️🙏
. . . and, once again, the confluence of three great masters of their respective arts (Weiss/Turrentine/Mearns) creates a moving and unforgettable experience.
❤️🙏
Alan, your facility, dexterity, and soulfulness are so mesmerizing and heartfelt to me…I’m just in awe. Bravo my friend! 👍❤️❤️👍
Thanks 🙏
Amazing playing. That guitar is a work of art.
Yes!
Wonderful!
❤️🙏
I have listened to this several times over the past month. Well done.
❤️🙏
Wonderful on all levels. You have one of the most 'poised' right hands I've seen! The Passacaglia played in C when compared to the ones in D has a lot of appeal with its higher voicing, and although the D arrangements have their own appeal with the deep drop d tuning, I find I am not missing it when listening to this version. The cross string playing is great as are the double string trills, and the ornamentation is fantastic and is akin to that done by an accomplished harpsichord player. Bravo!
Thanks Ben!
Alan,
Just an incredible performance. Your talents are second to none!
Bravo.
❤️🙏
Love everything from Weiss, and your interpretation is sublime, as always. Just like in other instances, your sensitive rendition leads me to tears. Your cross-string trills are just hypnotic. I feel that one cannot play Weiss properly without mastering this technique. And we can always trust your mastery.
It’s a modern technique. There are many ways to play it beautifully! ❤️🙏
Wonderful.I have tickets for your Dallas show this Sat. Very much looking fwd to it.
❤️🙏
I learned about Weiss when I was studying piano. Just beautifully played.
Thanks 🙏
Really nice!. Right and left hand doing two different styles of trills...impressive. Extreme version of rubbing your stomach and patting your head at the same time. :) The sustain on that guitar is amazing.
❤️🙏
Mag-ni-fi-cent! And such a beautifully crafted guitar. My grand dad was an amateur luthier, I've seen plenty of lutes, guitars, violins as a kid. Great work. Nice shooting, as well. Improvisation duels, that makes the film Crossroads pale in comparison :)))
Yes! Exactly!
Why do I always come away from listening to Baroque music feeling like it’s all downhill from there? Peak music: acheived. Wonderful stuff, sir!
I know what you mean! ❤️🙏
Three big cheers !!! One for Allen, one for Weiss, and last but not least, one for Zeb
❤️🙏
Love Weiss!! Thank you for your beautiful playing.
❤️🙏
I love Weiss... and your performance.
❤️🙏
Beautiful Alan! Hopefully more Weiss to come!
Cheers mate ❤️🙏

❤️🙏
Sublime! Bravo!
Thanks 🙏
素晴らしい!🎉
Thank you 🙏
Fenomenal!
❤️🙏
Beautiful piece and so nicely articulated and played. The guitar is stunning I'm surprised by the long taper under the fingerboard extension rarely seen a guitar build this way ! Thanks for the little biography on Jacob Weiss I never did heard of him but the prejudice is now repaired Thanks Alan
❤️🙏
The only classical guitarist I've heard play Weiss and be in the same league as Robert Barto. The Turrentine guitar helps!
@@adeadgbe ❤️🙏
Excelsa interpretación.
Hermosa guitarra.
👍✔
❤️🙏
Beautiful! And thank you, Alan, but expanding my listening palette.
❤️🙏
Flora is beautiful!!!💝💝💝
Yes!
New guitar!!!…
For someone else! Not mine. ☹️
Jesus Christ....so far i thought Jearakul version of Passacaglia in hia Naxos cd was the most amazing performance....but yours is even better than his!
Just could not believe my ears🌌💪❤️
❤️🙏
Nice Alan, I’m not sure how but you made the guitar sound like a harpsichord. 😊
Thanks! 😃
🧘♀️😊
❤️🙏
Great piece. Are the sides of that guitar maple?
You’d have to ask Zeb 😂 ⬇️
Yes sir. Quilted Maple. Spruce Top. Black Walnut Neck. And that was a lot of unnecessary capitalization. Apologies.
🙏
❤️🙏
So beautiful! Do you do the entire piece from memory? You must have a better memory than I do!
It's not that hard.
I spend a lot of time working on it so it gets memorized. 👍🏻
Is that jumbo frets I am seeing?
Always!
Though this is not my guitar 😁
@@AlanMearns-YesTheRaven I've been considering re-fret my guitar into jumbo frets. Do you find any inconvenience or muscle memory problems when you switch between guitars with jumbo and normal frets?
@@nasigil5928 I’m not very tech savvy but I do notice the advantage on my classical (I don’t really switch around guitars)
Non-classical stuff is so relatively easy that I don’t think about that stuff
@@AlanMearns-YesTheRaven Thanks! Been a big fan of your classical stuff. That Bach album is up there with the greatest in the history
@@nasigil5928 Agreed!
