I have the blue 2022 model which I traded in my 2018 for and I'm so happy I did. The 2022 is awesome. I've owned it for just 6 months but still amazed at how that blue pops in the sunlight. Its gorgeous.

100%. I’m with you on that. I too purchased the 22 DCT Tour airbag in Ultra Blue. I don’t see the imperfections of paint or other elements mentIoned. Just pure Gold Wing joy. By comparison, based on DCT performance and handling alone, is Honda’s secret sauce. It slays the competition from stop light to stop light and beyond. Electronic suite is really a non factor for me. What we do know is this generation of Gold Wings are tight reliable performance wrapped in good looks is here and now. Ride safe and often. ATGATT.

To me bikes are like truck / cars if I'm not having trouble with them I don't look to replace them I don't need the newest things out. I look for dependability. All the new electronics on vehicles puts you in a spot if it go's out your stuck.

The blue is real nice! I understand color is important, I'm curious how much difference you noticed in the transmission and overall performance? I don't care about the trunk. I'm trying to decide between a 24 or an 18 with 8k miles for 13k less. The 18 has allot of upgrades.

I'm with you brother. My 2004 has a HyperPro rear shock, Progressive Suspension mono-cartridges, a Traxxion Dynamics Triple Tree, Kury fork brace and shimmed anti-dive. It also came with a 60ltr trunk and 145ltr luggage capacity. It's paid for and will get me to where I want to go just as well as a any 6th gen but without leaving a $20+ hole in my bank account. And it still turns heads everywhere I go.

Thanks CM, all very interesting. The biggest thing for me would be the cost to change. You didn't mention that and of course it would be different for each person, but if it was going to cost, say, $12k , or £10k in my case here in the UK, to upgrade then I'd seriously think twice about spending that much money on effectively a bigger trunk and a nicer colour. Especially if I could spend that 10k on adding another bike to my stable! 😁

    • @SmellingTheGrass

I agree with you. Unless ones name is Rothchild then the cost to change for the average Joe is money down the toilet bowl given a big lump of buying from new is VAT. My Black airbag DCT is all I need. My bones will probably fail before the bike does. When looked after it a 'brilliant' machine overall.

Bigger trunk is the only thing that attracts me in new models, but does not worth the trade. I can just buy and replace my trunk if I really feel a need. I will wait till they redesign dashboard with touch screen and make a better driver seat that will not scream for upgrade or wingsoft update.

    Hey Cruiseman,
I just got a 2023 DCT Tour as a replacement for my electrically defective 2018 DCT Tour and right away I appreciated the larger trunk! My 2018 was the candy ardent red, which I loved, but was anticipating getting a 2022 in the blue you like because the dealership that had my “18” for almost a year told me that’s what American Honda was sending them as a replacement for my “18”! Well, I preferred the red one over the blue one and low and behold, American Honda flipped the script on us and changed the shipment from the 2922 blue to the 2023 candy ardent red!!! My only regret is the price difference 😮! I love the way it shifts both up and down compared to my previous DCT, much smoother: it’s worth the price difference although I think the dealership I got it from stiffed me a little. I was able to swap out some of my added accessories which saved me a little money, but have had to repurchase most of the chrome embellishments!
I wish you the best in your future decision,
    Loyal.

I ride a 2018 DCT. While I would love the larger trunk, the other changes are not compelling. Most importantly, I have upgraded the bike with a lot of lighting, an F4 windshield, floorboards, an Ultimate seat and many other accessories. To outfit a new bike with all of the desired accessories would be unrealistic. I am happy to keep riding my 2018.

I have a 2021 Tour DCT. I had considered trading up from my 2013 F6B when the 2018 came out, but the smallish trunk was a big deterrent. So I waited. When the 2021 came out, with the larger trunk, fog lights, tweaked DCT and factory installed XM antenna, those significant improvements were all I needed to make me bite.
I’m quite happy with my 2021 and have added most of the accessories I wanted to make the ride more comfortable for me and my significant other. That alone would deter my from trading up to a new wing. While most of the additions were fairly straightforward to install, I wouldn’t want to spend the additional money or take the time to do it all over again. I’ll likely keep this ride until I decide to hang up my riding gear for good.
For someone like you to trade up from the 2018 to 2020… with your knowledge of the motorcycle and the procedures for installation of the various accessories, I would say trading up to the newer / newest model would probably be a good move. I don’t think you’d be sorry.

I do agree with you on the navigation and Bluetooth issues on the bike BUT everything else about the bike that you mentioned, trunk xm fog lights DCT improvements etc can’t beat it from the early 2018-2020. I have the gloss/matte black which I wanted vs two tone red w/ chrome and I added my own flare to the bike like you even got ideas from your bike. You won’t regret it just swap everything over to the new bike smile and enjoy…and remember that’s the best part upgrading your bike😅

Thanks for the videos on Honda Gold Wing 2022… really enjoyed them and really appreciate the insights and the objective analysis from your side as always.
I have started my journey with touring motorbikes with Harley Davidson back in 2005 with HD Ultra Classic. To trade it in with 105 Anniversary edition HD Ultra Classic in 2008 to enjoy the Brembo Breaks and ABS combined with the uniqueness of the anniversary edition and I still do to date.
Recently, I have rented a 2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT during a trip, and man, I have fallen in love with this fine piece of machine. I am so much in love with the 2-tune Blue of the Gold Wing Tour DCT, but I was waiting passionately for the year model 2023, expecting additional / upgraded features but nothing was added / upgraded and the offered colors are not attractive to me. Despite the fact that they might / might not do anything in 2024. I can’t hold my horses and stop myself from buying and enjoying the distinctive look of the 2-tune blue 2022 Honda Gold Wing 2022.
So, I have decided to go ahead and buy one.
And I would be happy for you to go for one as well. I really think the color is so distinctive and they made it as rare as an anniversary by offering it only on year model 2022.
Best of luck to both of us finding brand new 2-tune blue 2022 Gold Wing Tour DCT. 👌🏼

I traded my 2018 for a 2021 a year ago. 3.things made the decision for me.
    1. Larger trunk. My wife and I tour all over the country for months at a time.
    2. Luggage rack 2018 tail bag would cause the trunk lid to flex under load greatly. It would eventually fail. 2021 with same load no flex.
    3. Ride improvements to suspension. Honda made adjustments to the suspension and I feel a significant difference. The bike now rides like my 1998 1500 which was extremely smooth.
These are important to me as we ride hundreds of miles day in and day out for months at a time. Just what this bike was designed for.

I have 2019 DCT tour airbag. Have concluded it is definitely not worth changing to the ‘23. The principal gain would be the larger trunk only. Smoother DCT tweaks - prob a 5% improvement in the real world. Now, if Honda had brought us major tech improvements - e.g. reverse camera, customisable TFT, adaptive cruise control, improved electronic suite, totally upgraded satnav, plus other things such as improved suspension and even moved the horn switch to a better position, then I would upgrade immediately

As a previous owner of a 2008 Goldwing, I bought a brand new 2018. Nice bike, for sure, but I felt, after some ownership time, that Honda abandoned the ultimate purpose for this bike: 2-up touring. My wife felt cramped on longer rides, I felt cramped on longer rides and the storage was not sufficient for more than a 2 or 3 day jaunt. I considered buying a pull behind, but really wasn't thrilled about riding around with it. I ended up trading my 2018 in on a low mileage 2016 and couldn't be happier. I finally got a real touring bike again.

Okay Cruiseman, I just wanted you to know that this video caused me trade my Blue 2018 for a Blue 2022. Your review was excellent and on point as always. For me though it was a pretty big deal because I’ve been an anti-DCT guy from the beginning and my 2018 was a 6-speed. Your video, especially the acceleration runs, and my opportunity to ride a friend’s DCT finally flipped the switch in my brain and I was ready to go all in on the DCT. I searched the just about the whole country and even had the Honda rep searching for that beautiful blue color. Finally found one. That dealer claimed it was the last unsold blue DCT available. I don’t know if that’s true but I’m sure glad I got it or rather I’m getting it. It has to be shipped from Ohio to Mississippi. Keep up the great reviews!

Likewise, on the fence about an upgrade... The differences are material, but so is the cost. There's also always a risk of frustrating issues with the new bike where mine are already worked out as the bike has broken in (for example, the bike being down for months waiting for a gauge cluster replacement under warranty)... I will likely opt to hold on to my (nearly identical) white 2018 DCT Tour because I've gotten used to all the boundaries it has, and I've made it OK this far and really enjoyed the ride!

Owned a 2006 Goldwing for 5 years and sold it to buy a 2009 R1200RT. The RT is a very nice bike and I love it. But 6 weeks ago I found a 2019 6 speed manual Goldwing for a great price and bought it. I can’t believe how well balanced it is. How amazing it handles and how easy the shifting is compared to the 2006 Goldwing and the RT. I bought the RT because it only weighed 570lbs but the 2019 Goldwing is easier to maneuver and handle than the RT which really blew me away. The shifting is much smother than either the RT or the 06 Goldwing. The only thing I miss is the trunk and side bag space on the other 2 bikes. But since I don’t tour 2 up anymore it will probably handle whatever I have to carry. Personally if you have the money I would get the 2022 especially if you use the trunk a lot otherwise keep the one you have.

I have a '20 red/black DCT with all the additions I wanted. I ordered all the necessary parts and upgraded my trunk to a '21 trunk! I sold my original trunk (literally in 30 minutes to someone that had a bagger). They got an instant perfect color match trunk for their bike. Best of both worlds!

No, keep what you have! You’ve put so many custom/ extra stuff on, you’ve forgotten. Buy the extended warranty if that makes you sleep better.
The strip on the blue MC looks very faddish and is only there to cover the paint line between the two colors. You’ve made the trunk work for you, I do however agree, it’s small, I have a 2019.

Oh go for it you know you want to. Been watching your videos and love them. I had a white 2018 just like yours except it had manual transmission traded it for a red and black 2021 with dct and love it. Mine has the same issue with the paint on the mirrors but I don’t notice it until I clean it which is after every ride. Maybe you can make a good deal on the blue one you have.

Not enough changes for me to change from my 2018 DCT Tour. I'd like to see adaptive cruise control and _seriously_ a backup camera. It would be great to see what is exactly behind you when reversing. But even then, I wonder if I really would upgrade. I'm really happy with my 2018.

    Hey Cruiseman!
I ended up with a 2023 DCT Tour by default; they couldn’t repair my 2018 DCT Tour. I love the “23”: the shifting, both up and down is miles better than the 18, and like you say the trunk is a dream! Of course I was able to transfer some of the enhancements I’d done from the 18 to the 23, saved a little money, but the rest I’m going to have to come out of pocket again to purchase. As far as is it worth the money to trade up, YES I think so, although for me it was a big jump in the size of the monthly payment, I think it’s still worth it for me! I wish your success with your ultimate decision.
    Loyal.

I had a 2018 Gl manual and it was a great bike. Now I have a 2021 DCT now. The difference is colossal. The DCT is perfection, the larger topcase is as expected and in addition I have to disagree with Chris because the seat had to be changed. For me, traveling around Europe in 2018 was a pain, today in 2021 it is not a problem. I recommend a change.

One thing many Honda owners already know is that unless you do ALL your own maintenance, tires and engine work, once the bike is ten years old, not many factory Honda dealerships will still work on them. That is strictly to force buyers to upgrade/buy newer bikes. There's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping an older Honda, because they are incredible bikes if maintained properly. I prefer Honda over BMW any day.

    Hi Cruiseman
I’m wanting to purchase the blue 22 too however I was told that the 23 has more horse power. I searched the website and found nothing about an upgrade in power. For me I would upgrade from the 18 to the 22. I’m with you about the 23. The colors suck!
This is going to be my first wing but probably not my last because you know that Honda is going to give us more in the next couple of years. I’m not purchasing until late winter. I’m going to go to the dealership and fine a blue one and put a deposit on one only if it is still in the create. I saw a silver 23 in one of the informercials but there is nothing like the blue.
My name is Al. I’m a 68 year old Cold War veteran. You are the Greatest for information Cruiseman. I looked at everything you post. I vote for Crown and comments. I saved a lot of your videos to go back and get the accessories that you suggested. There’s so much that I’m going to need. But that’s with any hobby. Be safe and well to you and all

I have to say that I think it's very well worth the upgrade to the 2022. I say this because I had a 2018 and I made the change without a second thought even with all the accessories I had installed on the 2018. I took most of the accessories off the 2018 and reinstalled them on the 2022 along with so many other accessories. I do believe I'm done upgrading as I am very satisfied with my 2022 Goldwing with all the accessories and I still have a few more to install, but for me just the bigger trunk space was enough for me so I say Go for it, you won't regret it. I just Love my 2022 Honda Goldwing.

I went from a 2002 goldwing to a 2015 40th anniversary edition. And I love it. I'm not interested in the new body style due to how narrow it is in the front. I like the the wider fairing to knock the wind off me. I live in Michigan and ride as long as I can. I do love the blue and was thinking about it last year when they came out. All personal preference. Great video. 👍

I loved my 2012 GW but wanted to upgrade to a 2018 GW to get better electronics, blue tooth and other updated features. I was so disappointed with the trunk space reduction and poor seat quality that I kept looking and ended up buying a 2018 Indian Roadmaster Elite. It has the advantages of huge trunk space and incredible electronics and a super comfortable factory seat that I didn’t have to change out and a beautiful gold flecked blue to boot. That being said I keep looking at the new generation GW’s each model year for my next bike consideration as my Indian is about 900 lbs and I’m not getting any younger. Great video to keep us updated!

The idea of tearing the bike limb from limb to reinstall most of the below gives me the willies. Not sure if a bigger trunk, smoother DCT, and better passenger seat is worth countless hours in the man cave! Don't care about any of the other upgrades. Especially all the lighting and homelink. That left saddlebag catch assy.- re: Homelink install - was a bear. (And then it failed and I had to replace it.) I've left out farkles that are included on the 2021+ and other minor installed stuff. Either stay with the 2018 or (yeegads) pay for a dealer to do it all. Can't imagine the labor bill, nor can I imagine doing this all over again.

I purchased the new 2022 manual transmission tour model back in April and although I really love the bike, there is still much to be improved upon. Sure, its got a few upgrades from the 2018 model but i really dont think they've made enough changes to make it worth the extra money they want for one. Don't get me wrong, the Goldwing is one of the nicest bikes I've ever owned but at this point I'd wait a couple more years until their anniversary model is available in 2025 to see any new features. I think we'd all like to see more colour options (especially on the manual model as blacked out is our only option atm), an adaptive cruise control, some side lighting and a better Bluetooth and onboard computer interface, but I doubt we'll see any of this before 2025. I was really surprised, in this day and age, that the 2022 model doesn't even have a digital speedometer yet.
Of course it's always a personal preference but after spending a season on the 2022, I'd save your money for Honda's anniversary model.
    Cheers from Ontario Canada.

For me a bigger trunk would be good but not essential, I think the dct transmission is smooth enough so I might test ride a new one to see how different they are. I would also consider the larger truck lid by Codin as a fix. Its a lot of dosh to upgrade the full bike especially as I have added a load of accessories too.
