Really liked the tip on 'job titles'. If you use the ones from Linkedin's drop-down list, and not put your fancy company-invented title, there are indeed significantly more chances to be found!
Thank you Andrew LaCivita. I have never thought about using LinkedIn to create long form posts as a free method to communicate my knowledge from my subject of study. Now I can keep my skills sharp and get noticed at the same time! How efficient!
Hi Andy. This is a great piece. Optimizing my linked page for recruiters and growing my network has been my top priority but I have never come across a helpful resource as this. Now I know it's all about growing my connections, writing articles, sharing, liking and commenting on posts. Heading straight to your website to check out some helpful stuff and share as much.
As I expected less than 10% got a job via LinkedIn as Andrew said. It's fantastic that proving my idea that most of jobs comes from social networking So we need to concentrate on social networking
That makes so much sense. Would be interested to find out how writing a Linkedin profile differs from writing a CV, what to write/not to write/examples etc. (For those that noticed I do use the term CV deliberately as I am in UK.) Would also be interested in more info on writing a contractors CV and contractor job hunting tips as opposed to a perm role... sorry I know it went a bit off topic.
This video is still relevant 5 yrs later. Surprised by how many people don’t optimize their LinkedIn pages. They these folks complain no one can find them.
I was reviewing my LinkedIn Profile as I was listening to your video. I need to improve on the Dynamic aspect more. The statistics given are not encouraging but facts... 97% profile not being seen....OMG!!!! Thanks Andy as always for sharing such great insights in various aspects for us job seekers. Truly appreciate it! .... the job job search continues......
Hello Andy! I have been enhancing my LinkedIn profile for a few days now. The video gives just the right tips to up my game. The part in the video where you explain how to reach out to professionals on LinkedIn was a challenge for me until now. Thanks a lot for the video.
I have never got a job via any job hunters. I remember only 2-3 times to submit my resume. My best way is via social networking. I believe that most of jobs in my area not real; they are fake or just posted for some legal or traditional ways but already the position already reserved for some one else. 2 of jobs I joined in the last 10 yrs there were no one occupied this position between 6 - 12 months & sure they need to be filled.
AMEN! It really is the most confusing platform. Thank you for saying this. I helped people back in the beginning, now I find myself confused. Thank you for this training. Appreciate it.
I wanted to say that Facebook trained me poorly in proper networking. It seems about the long game. I have to force myself to go there, read others articles, bullet key people, upcoming people, write my own articles, invite, trim..the list goes on. I speak to my brother who actually owns his own company and he brushes of its power.....
This video definitely gave me a crystal clear picture of how to start to build my Linkedin profile and all the tips provided are very helpful. Appreciate it.
Yeah, your talking my language my friend! I love to hear you take on LinkedIn. I love the idea of selecting discrete skills. I totally agree that connecting is one of the most important aspects of LinkedIn! Thanks for the wonderful video.
Biggest search issue for me: -niche skills -live in a small mountain village and trying to relocate to a big city for tech jobs LinkedIn has gotten me a lot of attention from companies but both these issues seem to put recruiters off.
Hi Andrew, starting a new job search. Your video is one of the best on how to optimize a LinkedIn profile I have found so far. Thanks for all the tips, going to implement many of your suggestions.
If you're just passively looking for a new role, do you suggest turning on the open to work visible only to recruiters feature on or leaving it turned off?
Excellent insights. I agree that Linked In is not very intuitive to make it productive. These tips are good. I have also listened to Prof Heather Austin and thank the both of you to decipher Linked In for us users.
Andrew you are AWESOME !!! The resources and knowledge you are sharing is priceless and has definitely helped countless people in need. God Bless you and wish you all the success in 2020.
Another helpful video - LinkedIn is my area of weakness and although I'm not in the job market they are great tips for helping me improve my profile on there.
Hi Andy. LinkedIn certainly is a wonderful tool for building networks. I devoted the entire weekend to sending out invitations to connect. I suppose this is where LinkedIn really gets tricky. I received a notification that I am a "power user" and was subsequently cut off from viewing further potential connections (laughing as I'm writing this). Since it is the beginning of the month, I will now have to wait at least 3 weeks before starting the process again, OR pay close to $50/month for unlimited searches as a Premium user. Just wanted to share this. Thanks for tirelessly posting your great videos!
Dear Andrew , Thank you for these videos, they help me a lot to express and develop my speaking skills and build professional relationships at the highest level. Sincerely, O.E
Hi Andy, John Schmit here. Thanks for the suggestions here but regarding your ideas for the 'dynamic side', I'm a little bit dubious about the amount of time required to create original content on LinkedIn. With the sort of things that I have expertise in, I could not create anything worthwhile in 30 minutes. I've read some posts by people who are slapping things up on LinkedIn, presumably to generate more traffic for their profile. Regarding most of these articles, I have found them to be so vacuous that it caused me to have a negative view of the author which obviously is not conducive to a future business or employment opportunity. None the less, thanks for the video.
John, Interesting perspective. I think you can do several things to accommodate and put out a quality piece. There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting out a 5 part piece. Break it down into little pieces. Generate the content. Write one piece a week for month and so forth. They don't need to be long, but they should be valuable. Also, I would suggest spending an hour or longer if you need to!
I wanted to say thank you for making this video. I plan to push even harder to make some connections in my new home town. I moved here for a promotion as a general manager and realized after a few months the job wasn't what I expected. I've been looking to find another job, but as I said I'm still pretty unfamiliar with my town, and I've always been kind of an introvert. I'm hoping by using your advice I can break out of that, at least enough to get my foot in the door and meet some great new people.
Hi, I have a few more LinkedIn videos on RUclips. Search for Why Your LinkedIn Headline Should Not Be "Looking For New Opportunities!" and Should My LinkedIn Profile Match My Resume?
Basically linkedin wants to turn you into an influencer, but if I wanted to be an influencer I was doing gameplay on youtube instead of studying computer science. bitter truth in this video

Andy. How did you finally get Linkedin to live stream you? If I'm following a # do i get notified if something is posted? If I use a # will my posted automatic add to that # location?
I just graduated and am actively pursuing a full-time position in engineering. I would like to start posting original content, but I don't have a grasp on what I could actually write. I could research topics and try to summarize them into these mini-blogs, but I don't see what value that content would provide; I wouldn't be presenting anything novel. Is it more about just showing that I've put effort into learning about the industry?
Julia. You might not think it’s novel but it’ll be great. I’m not sure if you follow me on Instagram but I spoke a few times last week on why we undervalue ourselves and how to get past that. Check out my page and especially the Today’s Tips series!!
Great advice! How many connections should a person target 50, 100, 200, 500? I can feel that the answer will be depends. But Andrew you probably have a feel as to what should be typical for a experienced professional looking for a new position.
George, that's a wonderful question. Actually, it's not THE NUMBER, but having the right people in your network. It's honestly only take ONE to help get you to the right job.
