NEVER accept a counter offer. They will screw you later. Count on it. With the right skills you don't need to give ANY notice beyond today is my last day. Never tell an employer why you are leaving or do an exit interview. Employers don't like to get fired but they would fire you with no notice on a Wednesday at 3:30 PM if it suited their purpose. NEVER NEVER NEVER quit a job unless you have another job locked up or have amassed what I term as F.U. money. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS keep building your skills and be searching for your next potential job. A backup plan lets you sleep soundly at night. Never have your heart so set on something that you wouldn't accept something better !
I live the UK. I followed your steps and downloaded your resignation letter template. The class was oozing from my letter and after 5.5 years of working for this company I knew they would not be happy about my decision to leave but I thought they would be gracious and respectful. Boy was I wrong!!! The response from my Area Manager was more prickly than a cactus to say the least. I had some extra days that I accrued but not yet redeemed so I used those as part of my notice period which meant I only needed to work 3 weeks notice (my contract stated I have give 4 weeks notice). Their response was to tell me if I have found another opportunity and want to start immediately, they would be happy for me to leave immediately without working the 3 weeks notice. I accepted to leave with immediate effect. The tone of their communications to me was colder than an Alaskan winter. That was something I did not expect and honestly has left me kinda delicate because I put in some mileage for these people and made them some heft coin. Anywho….onto better things but one thing I have learned, no matter what NEVER bring sentiments into the job. Strictly business!
Hello ,Sam that type of coldness I could feel from here,it makes you wonder how people can just view a person as enemy of state instead of being gracious and respectful after 5.5 years. Strictly business! I honestly look at your situation ,myself and really anyone that works a company, owners will replace us without thought if it helps the bottom line,so no sentiment. In the end you know you,no explanation needed ,I wish and hope you are on a good path.
My partner had that. They wanted him to go immediately but would pay gardening leave. I think this is a modern thing now just in case there is an aggrieved serial killer who wants revenge or something.. it is weird now not working your notice
Wishing you much success in future career. Yes, you made hefty coin but these folks were not friends. They showed their true colors when you gave your notice. As a wise person once said, when folks show you who they are...believe them.
I resigned from my old company and they wanted me to reconsider. They offered for me to stay per diem with full benefits. I reconsidered and stayed. It’s been almost a yr now and I’m happy to be a per diem in the company.
Is this a large corporation that offered this to you? I had a dream that an old company reached out to work with me as needed. I had consulting in mind but never thought about the option of per diem
I quit my my job as a registered nurse last two years ago after almost 15 years in the field. It was not an easy decision, but life is too short to dread going to work everyday. No amount of money can buy real happiness Lol 😁but friends I'm not asking you to resign from your job or abandon your business but be wise!!
@@eiraantoinette6793 I run my own business and While I was still in service I planned towards early retirement, making about 2k weekly from my retirement investment portfolio trying so much to build more side hustles and extra income
I’m expecting an offer letter this week and I’m sure the company I’m leaving is going to say, oh after all the things we did for you, I’m surprised, you didn’t come and talk to me before doing this
Excellent video! The process to resign starts long before the final resignation takes place. Fortunately I never had to deal with a counteroffer - agree that it should be turned down because the mind is set to move on at this point. I was also never asked to the reasons "why" I wanted to leave - I turned down upfront exit interviews which I highly recommend to ignore if asked to do. But I had supervisors who pressured me verbally to tell them where I will go. I calmly told them that I am not obliged to do so and did not give in. It is possible that they then cut you off from internal servers and files in the remaining two weeks of notice - fine, this is their weak attempt to put last pressure on, and I simply accepted this - I left with class. I left by not even telling colleagues where I went next - made a clear but polite cut. I highly recommend to leave silently and being less visible to peers in the last 14 days in the old job to avoid any kind of reasoning to be seen as bad-mouther. Another important thing: Focus own mindset on time to come and what happens next. Don't vest more energy on what bugged you in the last job, this is a closed chapter now.
I have always given 2 weeks with the exception of my last employer. Every time someone put in their 2 weeks they were told to leave immediately. You should not put yourself in a position where you have no income for 2 weeks out of courtesy when you have seen that they would not do the same for you.
Accepted an offer today, resigning tomorrow! Thank you for your guidance. I feel much stronger knowing I do not have to disclose answers to any and all questions my current employer may have to be regarded with professionalism during future background investigations. Keeping it simple and straightforward!
I also want to add, if you accept a counteroffer and RENEG on the offer you signed at the other firm, you burnt a bridge with that company as they will most likely not look at you again after falling through on a signed deal.
The Friday before you give your resignation take all your personal items home. Be prepared for them to just let you go when you give your resignation; they will not want you potentially destroying files or anything else similar. If you really do not like the employer just walk out and I say that as a business owner. Companies want two week notices and it is a joke. NO employer gives an employee two weeks notice unless it is required by law such as the WARN act.
I resigned give 15 days and first thing i told my boss was i dont want more money he said i give you couple of days to think about it, i said is nothing to think about it , couple of days pass he said if you want more money i can get it for you,i told him im not leaving because of money i want peace of mine, Monday i start my new job.
Which reason did you give for leaving? I’m very nervous, I don’t know what to say when they ask me. The truth is that my boss and team are a nightmare and they pay me very bad
In my case i was a mgr and i see everyday i work more 6 days and some weeks 7 days and less help everyday, i start looking for a job , i ask a friend of mine if he know about a job in his company he said in 3 months they going to open a new position if you want a can talk for you, i said ok and i been working there 6 months allready all weekends off hollydays off and more money, i tell you, best thing that happen to me, so dont be afraid you going to be ok, the true it was not easy for me i work at my company for 33 years and make decent money but not time for my personal life and allways tire because over work, now im writing this to you on my house enyoing the long weekend.
@@juliolafe2598 Thank you very much for your answer. I gave the notice this Thursday by email, I waited for my boss for come to office but didn’t appear, and didn’t even answer me the email. But next day she video called to his favorite employ of our team and they were speaking bad of me. I felt bad and cried in the toilets. This happened all the time, laughing of me. I think I will comment to the HR about these persons. I’m happy for leaving and starting something new.
After 2 years of working for this company and training others, always being the yes person with a 3% raise iv finally dared to say no to training a new supervisor who was hired over me i said: "I am confident that at this time, my primary focus should be on increasing my call count and maximizing my bonuses to ensure a substantial increase in my income. “Once mastered I'll be ready to assist others not only in providing excellent knowledge but also training in maximizing productivity. I’m feeling a bit burnt out at this time, so I need some time to regroup myself and improve.
I sent my boss an email at the end of shift telling him I want to pursue other opportunity and it was not an easy decision. I’ve worked there for 15 years. I wanted to leave in good terms.
I made a pay equity complaint. They let the HR person who made the decision to scam me be in charge of the investigation and make the determination. He decision was that it was okay to pay the oldest, most experienced, most educated person the least and lie and say it was the top of the range. I put in an ethics complaint. They are dragging it out while they have my boss, who has no management experience, quiet fire me. I have an offer for $15K more, to start in two weeks. I haven’t taken vacation yet this year and I want a week off in between. I’ve never given less than two weeks, but I am very tempted!
You got my attention with your white cards & sealed the deal with the smile 😃 cup. Thank you for being brutally honest & doing all of this with clarity. I appreciate your help!
Just accepted a job offer for new employer. However, they will initiate the background check now. When should I tell my current employer that I'm leaving? I just want to make everything is fine on the background check. I have nothing to hide but I just want to be extra careful just in case something comes up. I don't want to be a scenario where I told my manager I'm putting in my two weeks but then the background/employment check comes in and doesn't work out.
Excellent question. You wait until the new employer gets back to you and tells you your background check is a greenlight. Then and only then do you let your current employer know you’re leaving. And, do not let your new employer force you into giving a shorter notice because you’re waiting on a background check. Good luck!
I recently went through this process, and HR upfront asked me where are you going? How much more are you going making? Why are you leaving? Would you be willing to accept a counter offer? I sat there in shock! I just want to leave and that's that. It wasn't a pleasant interrogation/ "exit interview".
Thank you for the information. What if I am leaving because of being mistreated or discrimination? Should I explain why I am leaving during an exit interview? Do all jobs have an exit interview? I ask because I need to leave immediately. My environment is completely toxic.
Thank you for the advice Andrew. I have been with my current employer for 10 years, have been an outstanding employee as far as dependability and performance. I have even been doing extra work on my machine for the past year and a half because the second shift operator was injured and never came back to work. The company never filled his position and more responsibilities has been shoved my way. But over the past year I haven’t had compensation or been allowed room for advancement in the company. So,with that being said now I am currently looking for a fresh start and new employment. I will use your advice to help me correctly give my current employer the two week resignation letter.
Andy, most, if not the majority of, large corporations do not give live job reference checks. In most cases, it’s a 800 number you call to verify employment, and it’s a recording that verifies dates of employment and title, but it's not a live person to answer questions. You might have those one-off small companies that do it, but it's very rare these days.
About to resign with no new job lined up. The contract mentions 60 days, however I can only give 30 days notice for medical reasons. Afraid that anything could be used against me in future job opportunities….more worried after listening to some points raised in this video. 😢
Hi Andy. I changed the career successfully with your guidance, beginning from your resume ending now with interviewing for senior position in a small pharma company (200). Can’t thank you enough, I am living proof that changing career in age of 45 can be very successful with your mentorship ! Now I’m interviewing for senior position and strange thing is happening. I thought they were ghosting me but they actually are not, it just takes really slow to communicate back and forth. Strange thing is that next week is my first interview and it is 30 min phone call with Director of my future department that I will be reporting to. Why ? Not even HR screening ? I don’t understand ? What’s going on ? Would you share your expertise ?
I just started watching and already appreciate your approach. It is hard to not carry toxicity with you after you feel played at a job. It's weird to go from bright eyed and bushy tailed to cynical and jaded. Even saying resigned as opposed to quitting is a better way to put it
Hi! My situation is... 67 yrs old, worked for company 20 yrs, I have said I was going to retire in 3 odd years due to bills and supporting an elderly parent. My yearly reviews were meets expectations, my errors have increase, I feel age and stress have affected my performance. I've had one suspension without pay 2 months ago. Any other errors could and would be reason for dismal. This is not an idle threat. I don’t want to quit a job i use to enjoy. And a salary I need. I feel if i don't resign I will loose my pension. I work in NC. Thanks for being online! 😢
"Resignation" letter is a thing of the past. It has a defeatist, servile, subservient odor. The word now is "termination" letter sent by worker to employer ending his/her services. The power imbalance between employer-worker is shrinking. That's progress. Giving "notice" is not necessary. In U.S. states with "at will" clauses, both the employer and employee can terminate the arrangement without cause, without notice. I've done it myself with no repurcussions.
My start date is about 4 weeks out due to the holidays in November. But i talk to the hiring manager at my new opportunity every other day so we stay in contact
Andrew I have used your videos in the past. I actually today decided to take a counter offer and wanted to share. I was working in a position where I felt underpaid. I got an ok offer from a premier competitor. Once I had accepted the offer I talked with my mentor about the reasons I felt I needed to depart. Within 2 hours of a call conversation we worked out a 25 % salary increase with the upper management . This was well over the offer from the competitor and had recently gotten some boots on the ground feedback about the new role I was going to be taking. I would say this was a 1 in a million chance but though I would share in case this could help anyone else. Point #1 make sure you want to quit been on both sides of the fence through my career and changes. Thanks Andrew
I had in the past accepted two counter offers, with two different companies, it never works, I like the advice about making contact during your notice period and also asking the new company if there is anything you can do in advance of starting
My answer is no. I want to grow and progress in my career. I’ve learned everything I can in my current role (for the most part), and there is no room for growth that I am interested in. There is no other position I’m interested in. I love my boss but onwards and upwards!
I'm working for a toxic boss in a team that I am not involved in anything except for being expected to document after things have already been finalized. I can't invite myself to be more involved because I don't know where in the process I am supposed to be involved. I am hired as some sort of expert and should ideally be informed about things and consulted where appropriate but I should not have to invite myself. My boss is very difficult to work with. Many people avoid her if possible. I am now in the process of deciding how to get the hell away from this person and find myself in a situation where I am involved in the day to day work in a natural way, so that I know what is going on and how to be of assistance without having to guess my way or ask random people about things.
After going through an interview process and talking about salary and getting an initial offer that's way too low, how would you answer the question "what's the lowest you can do?" That question always makes me feel bad because they just want to do the minimum... I watched your "How to negotiate a lowball salary offer" and I think I know the answer. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I should have just walked away because they're basing the salary off the position, not my skills and abilities.
My friend, my answer would have been, “Thank you. Thank you for being so clear you a company who focuses on the bare minimum, which means we’re not a fit for each other.” I would have needed a shower after they said that to me. You’re with so much more. And I’m not even talking about money.
You are so right, my company giving jobs to 3th part , rather than giving me a rise or more extra hours, it's not even cheaper for them because do a crap job , and when we get the cars back from them , they put it to my board straight as a next to do..so they want me to do anyway..idiots
Thank you so much for explaining the counter-offer is nothing else than a manipulation tactic for having the control on their own term. Also HOW the hell you look like from the other employer?! You seems someone who can be well controled, influence and not being a free agent and taking control of your life. The compagny will make sure to get all the information and a moment to replace you.
You are so good at delivering the information. Thank you. I got an offer this week but I'm so worried that it will end up being a very busy job with after hours. How do you recommend establishing boundaries around no after hours work before you even start. Is that something you recommend talking about. Unfortunately, I felt uncomfortable asking during the interview process
This is pretty much my situation right now with the company I work for. The culture, team, and management are awesome, but my current position turns out to be a poor fit. I'm struggling to meet and maintain production standards due to my condition. I don't get to take advantage of my strengths. I'm forced to use my weaknesses, so I had to submit ADA accommodation paperwork. I've been in this position for only four months, and I want out already. I'm just too physically and mentally exhausted. I just don't have time and energy for job searching, networking, etc. I don't even know what career path or industry I want to pursue anymore. The Great Resignation has hit the publishing industry hard, with editors being totally fed up with exploitative labor practices. The editorial side of publishing is technically a white-collar sweatshop. On the other hand, the distribution end of the publishing industry-where I am right now-is straight-up grunt work a.k.a. manual labor, but it pays better than junior-level or midlevel editorial positions. So as much as I want to quit, it's hard to leave my current position and company because of the decent benefits (since day one of employment, and I want to use my dental insurance because I'm dying to get braces or Invisalign!), the pay (pretty decent for an hourly entry-level position), the steady work, and the great people I work with. I have yet to find a publisher- and author-facing position (a salaried one at that) in the company that would be a good fit. The available salaried positions so far are marketing, sales, and customer service, just to name a few, which are . . . meh.
Some of you in the comments section might be dealing with this so here is my two cents....if your job sucks, and the only reason you stay is because it pays your bills on time each month, then it's time for you to go. Being miserable only makes you regret not moving on sooner. Jobs are all over, temp agencies need people always and even if its not your dream job, you can go do something else for a while and maybe something better will come up. A job is a just a job, don't waste your life being a slave to a toxic work place.
Good video, as a practice I like to get intention letter from the "new" employer to confirm they want to hire me, before I give my resignation. This way it is actionable in court if they go back on the offer and I get some cash since I am left without a job.
I’ve made the decision to leave my Company after 24 years. The Company hasn’t been profitable in the last 5 years. They had 3 major layoffs, leaving the company with 4 employees left. They are constantly cutting cost within the company, but it’s not enough. They recently had to cut my pay , cut my hours to part time and is no longer giving PTO for the remainder of the year. This is a hard decision for me, but the future of the Company doesn’t seem stable. I am looking for a new job and I will give them 2 weeks when I do find a New job. 😢
This content is beyond helpful. It brings up points and action items that I would not have considered, plus confidence to execute them. BUT at the same time, can we all also acknowledge the contributions of the cute dachshunds passing through with squeaky toys? ❤
After months and months of trying to “just deal with it”, I left my dream job last year bc of issues with upper management. I gave my two week notice letter in writing and the manager only seemed surprised and angry (not upset or disappointed) that I was leaving. She had given me attitude for years and continued to be rude & condescending to me literally until the moment I punched out on my last day. There was no talking to this woman and it’s heartbreaking 💔 I left for mental health reasons but still have some regrets about leaving. Note: I was also a manager, 3rd in command
My contract says that I should give a 30 day notice, but I'm aware of a company policy I could use to just expedite my resignation. In the letter should I just say "As soon as possible" rather than an exact date?
I understand we are not obligated to give any reason for resigning, but what if I am being coerced into speaking with a senior management person who wants to have "a chat".. it's really frustrating, especially when I have zero dealings with this senior management person throughout my career. Saying no would burn bridges.... saying yes would mean she will pry or try to fish for info. From the culture here, I can tell they won't take 'this is my personal reason' as an answer!
So I actually accepted a counter offer, because just after I signed into new job, I was being kicked out of my flat as landlord was selling, so was poor timing to go into new job, and move. Got the counter offer, which meant promotion, additional salary, and for the last 5 months being given many opportunities and soon another promotion as I have been leading lots of new initiatives. However. I am about to quit again, this time, because of all of these opportunities and experiences, I have landed a dream job. It feels a bit rude, but the last 5 months, had allowed me to skip another stepping stone job. Very awkward quitting. I enjoy my job, however my day to day responsibilities do not give me fulfilment. it's easier to quit, if it was a toxic environment!
I am glad you touched on follow up. My start date is 5 weeks from the acceptance date. Ive been in contact with many of the teammembers but I need to follow up with everyone to make it super clear!
I just got an unexpected job offer I am eager to take. I had a planned vacation next week for two weeks. Should I resign before my vacation, then work 2 weeks after to move my projects to the next person, or resign right when I get back and work two weeks after. (I definitely don’t want to give my two weeks and have those 2 weeks be my entire vacation!)

Never accept a counter offer and also do not give your notice to your manager If he/she is a known manipulator/narcissist/sociopath. Give your notice to some other higher up that you trust and have good relationship with. If you have no other choice, record your conversation and bring it up if that person says otherwise.
@andy I work for a small family business and the office manager is a nightmare. Impossible to get her fired. My boss has her running everything. But if I could I would like to work hybrid as in just go to work once a week 😂. The manager once said, the owner is old school and he’ll never allow that
Thank you for this! Really helped me to put things in perspective and gave me things to check off and complete before I say my final goodbyes to my Employer. I agree with your counter offer point and know I would be one of those statistics. I really don't want to leave my employer because it's been a great job where I've had a lot of growth. However management has declined and it's time for me to move on and find new growth an opportunity elsewhere
You can certainly quit. No one will force you to work. I would make sure you understand the contract terms and whether there is any penalty. Sometimes you sign a contract for a duration (~ 1 year) and inside the contract there will indicate an “out clause” where either party can terminate the contract with a certain number of days notice. Good luck!
I just put in my 2 weeks notice after asking for a raise for 6 months finally got a new job offer. 1 week before my last they the counter offer me with a 3 dollar raise..the job is great but the pay was not.
With the job sabotaging me and not knowing who it is coming from (seemingly 3 different people) and the culture of coworkers bullying and cut throat behavior, no counter offer would suffice. Not even money. I hear that it is not just my department but other departments. It is the company culture before I started 4 months ago. I called out 2 bullying coworkers and being retaliated on. My team lead is doing nothing to my direct bully in my department. I will hear in 2 days if I got a job I applied for with a $1 per hour pay cut to get out from under a toxic environment that is giving me so much stress that it is negatively affecting my ability to get all my work done. Focus is just not there.
I am looking for possibilities. I like my present job but there happened something that make me uncertain. This video is good. Even if I won‘t resign, it is good to see around for opportunities. But, I said to my boss that I am looking for another job (because of something they changed in my tasks, gave more tasks but not raise in the salary). And that is true: I immediately started to apply other jobs. I decided to find out what do they gave to offer. There is lack of workers on the field what I do, so good luck if I leave. They still have one post open in my workplace for the same tasks that I do but they haven’t got anyone in months! So good luck if I leave. But I do have some projects that I‘d like to accomplish brilliantly before leaving. 😅
I received an offer letter and accepted after negotiating. They are now in the process of my background check. Should I put in my 2 week notice now or wait until the background is cleared?
"Dear Mr./Mrs./Ms. Doe, Please accept this letter as notice of my resignation as [position title] at [company name] effective [date which is two weeks from the day you're turning the letter in]. I appreciate my employment at [company] and wish the team future luck. Sincerely, [Your first and last name]" That's all there is to it. Simple, to the point and respectful.
If I will tell you about my problem, can you give me your opinion? I’ve leave my work in the University The reason is my family My husband and my children are from another country.. we were together in my country for 15 years and my husband said: that is enough..We have to go to my country because the future of the kids is there.. he meant his country.. but my colleagues and the Head of the Department advised me to choose my work and leave my family.. They’ve despised me because I leaved my work.. Do you think I make wrong ???
I submit the one month notice before resignation date.. that is an awkward moment during a month. it looks like something went crazy there, you are just like an unknown people there.. nobody talks with you anymore, you can not access anything.. but fine, the life must go on, I said to myself I have been a professional worker
What can I say when an employer asks why I'm leaving and where am I going if I don't want to tell them I am going to a competitor? They may find out sooner rather than later but really it just depends. I know I'm not obligated to tell them anything but I'm unsure of how to respond. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I resigned when they created nothing to keep me. It you are volunteering, you don't need money but you need something that doesn't extra work for you. They didn't do that so I resigned
How do any of these guidelines change if it's a small company you're leaving? You mentioned the wedding, but I had my GM come to the hospital to congratulate me when my child was born. I do feel I OWE an explanation, even if it's that I want a new challenge
Hi Andrew, i am a big fan of yours. I was wondering whether you have any video on how to handle a job change within a very short duration.. Especially potential employer asking why do you want to change so quickly?
Hi Titatatuta! I actually a video that speaks to this on my Instagram. It’s a short video and you might be able to find it with a heading “leaving after shirt duration” or something go like that!
Andrew! Thank you for all of your info. I resigned from my job in social work/housing care of 13 years. I found a new job in banking; I love the industry but the job is not what was expected. How do I quit a second time or should I? It’s been 1 month 😅 (I need to vet the next job/employer more thoroughly)

Company wants you to train your replacement.
Such wonderful advice. Thanks so much. Have heard this over the years and it is so true.
Not Wed, but Monday morning at 10am
I was fired on a Wednesday about 2-3 in the afternoon once.
but labour law in some countries will mean you have to give a reasonable amount of notice first
Why is it bad to tell the employer why you're leaving?
When one has spiritually departed the job, it’s best to take the real action and move forward with his life. I’m so glad I made that decision to quit.
True words
Spiritually departed. Boy. AND HOW.
Same here. I left my company a few months ago. I dealt with so much bull crap for over three years. Best decision ever.
Same here. Spiritually left years ago, finally got the courage to move in the physical.
I needed to hear this today. Thank you

So glad for you!!

There is nothing my company can do to keep me. It's a toxic work environment that holds no one accountable for their actions
It’s good to be clear and at least you know it’s time to move on!
I’m expecting an offer letter this week and I’m sure the company I’m leaving is going to say, oh after all the things we did for you, I’m surprised, you didn’t come and talk to me before doing this
33 yrs In and I am about to bail. I have a very specific job . 25 x 8 oncall or backup. time to go
Just an update, I did give my notice and got a lot of strange questions, I’m gonna watch my back over the next two weeks
I’m going through the same thing, only they hold me accountable. Dealing with self doubt. I must go!
Don't vest more energy on what bugged you in the last job, this is a closed chapter now.
wow thanks for writing this
Thank you and great advice.
My coworker is great at her job. Every mid-year, she gives two weeks notice and gets a mid-year raise.
😂😂👍
I have always given 2 weeks with the exception of my last employer. Every time someone put in their 2 weeks they were told to leave immediately. You should not put yourself in a position where you have no income for 2 weeks out of courtesy when you have seen that they would not do the same for you.
Two weeks is a courtesy not a requirement. There is no law that says you have to give notice.
Accepted an offer today, resigning tomorrow! Thank you for your guidance. I feel much stronger knowing I do not have to disclose answers to any and all questions my current employer may have to be regarded with professionalism during future background investigations. Keeping it simple and straightforward!
Love it and congratulations!!!!🎈🍾🎉🎊
I’m in the same boat congrats - they can’t get 2 weeks from me . Protect your mental 🙌🏻🙏🏻
I also want to add, if you accept a counteroffer and RENEG on the offer you signed at the other firm, you burnt a bridge with that company as they will most likely not look at you again after falling through on a signed deal.
@@phillyctheman that’s okay burn the bridge crispy than fried chicken
Same here. No 2weeks here
Don’t give a two week notice. When your boss fire you or lays you off, they’re not going to give you a two week notice and I promise you that
I agree unless you have a contract which requires a certain amount of notice.
Some people do have employment contracts.

If the company makes a habit of walking people out. I give them the same courtesy. “Here is my resignation letter, yes it’s effective immediately.”
😂
After 2 years of working for this company and training others, always being the yes person with a 3% raise iv finally dared to say no to training a new supervisor who was hired over me i said: "I am confident that at this time, my primary focus should be on increasing my call count and maximizing my bonuses to ensure a substantial increase in my income. “Once mastered I'll be ready to assist others not only in providing excellent knowledge but also training in maximizing productivity. I’m feeling a bit burnt out at this time, so I need some time to regroup myself and improve.

Congratulations 🎈🍾🎊🎉!!
I agree, just be classy and resign. Never look back, at least that's what I was told.
That's great advice! 👍
I sent my boss an email at the end of shift telling him I want to pursue other opportunity and it was not an easy decision. I’ve worked there for 15 years. I wanted to leave in good terms.
My employer has shamed people for putting a two weeks notice so this is really nice to be reminded I don't owe them anything. Thanks for the vid!
For that sweet comment, I needed to get right back to you to say THANK YOU! Love to have you on the channel Alicia!
Sorry to hear that Ben. Good thing you’re getting out of there!
In previous exit interviews I told H.R that I was going to work for OSHA and not to worry because I would be seeing them in the future.
Linda in Tn, quit cause was diagnosed w cancer n she wrote me up twice for going to radiation treatment n then said next time I’d be fired. So I quit
Most importantly Linda, I hope you are doing well and hope the treatments are working. Sending you good vibes!
Always think in the long run
never let your emotions get the best of you
Andy, most, if not the majority of, large corporations do not give live job reference checks. In most cases, it’s a 800 number you call to verify employment, and it’s a recording that verifies dates of employment and title, but it's not a live person to answer questions. You might have those one-off small companies that do it, but it's very rare these days.
True story again.
About to resign with no new job lined up. The contract mentions 60 days, however I can only give 30 days notice for medical reasons. Afraid that anything could be used against me in future job opportunities….more worried after listening to some points raised in this video. 😢
Don't sweat it. Just explain your situation to them. I'm sure they'll understand and work with you!
A lot of great companies skip the HR screen. Lots of companies have the hiring official do a quick screen. Good luck!

Question. If is a case of workplace mobbing by both coworkers and bosses) to bully a person out of their job. No notice required?
this video is actual good advice that isn’t just typical “quit your job” nonsense
Thank you! Glad it helped!
Thank you for this educational video, I want to have a good position and good pay money, and hopefully, I reach my goals.
My start date is about 4 weeks out due to the holidays in November. But i talk to the hiring manager at my new opportunity every other day so we stay in contact
Nice idea!
2months in or so after accepting the counter offer.. Curious about, how are you so far?
Very enjoy watching your videos and detailed explanation. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
I had in the past accepted two counter offers, with two different companies, it never works, I like the advice about making contact during your notice period and also asking the new company if there is anything you can do in advance of starting
Glad it was helpful!
I liked that too
Fantastic advice man. I started my first management role thanks to your advice on interview
Love to hear it!
My answer is no. I want to grow and progress in my career. I’ve learned everything I can in my current role (for the most part), and there is no room for growth that I am interested in. There is no other position I’m interested in. I love my boss but onwards and upwards!
Excellent video with excellent tips. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
“… I take a week off to wrap my head - push it in the sand, whatever …” 🤣 such a great video Andy, as always 🥇
Glad you enjoyed it Karen!
I would never understand people who insult, belittle cause that pursuit their career....it's important to stay respectful and humble.

@@andylacivita Thank you!!

This was an awesome video. Great, straight forward content presented masterfully.
You made a scary uncomfortable situation more palatable. Thank you!
Great to hear, thanks so much! 👏
I was just typing the same thing
Thank you so much for explaining the counter-offer is nothing else than a manipulation tactic for having the control on their own term. Also HOW the hell you look like from the other employer?! You seems someone who can be well controled, influence and not being a free agent and taking control of your life. The compagny will make sure to get all the information and a moment to replace you.
So true!
The available salaried positions so far are marketing, sales, and customer service, just to name a few, which are . . . meh.
Wow the part about the counter offer hits different
Thank you for taking the time to do this video!!! Fantastic advice!! Wish I found this years ago.
You’re welcome and you found me right when you needed me! 🤗
Excellent guidance! Thank You 🙏🏾
You are so welcome!
Good video, as a practice I like to get intention letter from the "new" employer to confirm they want to hire me, before I give my resignation. This way it is actionable in court if they go back on the offer and I get some cash since I am left without a job.
What should I do with my PTOs before resigning? Would that affect my notice period?
They will likely pay you for those. However, you need to check your company’s specific policy.
Awesome presentation. Tell them what you're going to tell 'em, tell it (preferably well, as you did), and tell them what you told them. Brilliant.

Hang in there Cecilia!

😂 at the time I made this video I had four of them!! We lost one of our beloveds in June. Still have three raising heck!!
You can do it! Any company who behaves this way doesn’t deserve your bridge.

Sometimes timing isn’t perfect and you gotta do what ya gotta do!!
I am glad you touched on follow up. My start date is 5 weeks from the acceptance date. Ive been in contact with many of the teammembers but I need to follow up with everyone to make it super clear!
Good way to go!
Jennifer! Congrats!!🎉🍾🎊🎈 it’s okay either way. But, I’d wait until I’m back if you’re new company doesn’t mind waiting a month to get you!

Never accept a counter offer and also do not give your notice to your manager If he/she is a known manipulator/narcissist/sociopath. Give your notice to some other higher up that you trust and have good relationship with. If you have no other choice, record your conversation and bring it up if that person says otherwise.
Can you please make a video on the “Andy script” for how to ask to change your boss?
@andy I work for a small family business and the office manager is a nightmare. Impossible to get her fired. My boss has her running everything. But if I could I would like to work hybrid as in just go to work once a week 😂. The manager once said, the owner is old school and he’ll never allow that
I think I know her name 😂
Thank you for this! Really helped me to put things in perspective and gave me things to check off and complete before I say my final goodbyes to my Employer. I agree with your counter offer point and know I would be one of those statistics. I really don't want to leave my employer because it's been a great job where I've had a lot of growth. However management has declined and it's time for me to move on and find new growth an opportunity elsewhere
Good luck Annie!!! 👊👍
Your videos are sooo good crisp and to the point. Great work
Glad you like them!
Can I quit and resign my work even if i sign a contract with the company for one year? please someone answer if he has any information about that🙏🏻
You can certainly quit. No one will force you to work. I would make sure you understand the contract terms and whether there is any penalty.
Sometimes you sign a contract for a duration (~ 1 year) and inside the contract there will indicate an “out clause” where either party can terminate the contract with a certain number of days notice. Good luck!
Holy S*** this is such an excellent video and advice! Thanks Andy!

I just put in my 2 weeks notice after asking for a raise for 6 months finally got a new job offer. 1 week before my last they the counter offer me with a 3 dollar raise..the job is great but the pay was not.
Thanks for sharing! Congrats on the new job. 👏

You’re so welcome. Glad to have you Leo!
Don't show up and crap out, I laughed at this. Great tips! I am taking these steps this week. Excellent!

Good luck!!

I submit the one month notice before resignation date.. that is an awkward moment during a month. it looks like something went crazy there, you are just like an unknown people there.. nobody talks with you anymore, you can not access anything.. but fine, the life must go on, I said to myself I have been a professional worker
This can true for sure.
Good stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I resigned when they created nothing to keep me. It you are volunteering, you don't need money but you need something that doesn't extra work for you. They didn't do that so I resigned
Thanks!
Mohammed!! Thank YOU! Appreciate you man!!!
How do any of these guidelines change if it's a small company you're leaving? You mentioned the wedding, but I had my GM come to the hospital to congratulate me when my child was born. I do feel I OWE an explanation, even if it's that I want a new challenge
If someone came to hospital for me, I’d give them an explanation. 100%. These are guidelines Chris. Guidelines. Not hardlines. 👊👊👊
It’s up to you Val. I don’t stay anywhere that makes me unhappy!!
