The thing with mineral powder foundation is you need to buff it in three times as long as you think. The best tips on powder foundation are from youtuber and makeup artist Shelby Wilson. She’s the expert on bare minerals and powder foundation! She’s been a devotee for years and used to work for BM.
Their gen nude eye palettes are fantastic also. I have the rose one which has neutral browns and a rose gold shade otherwise it’s not pink at all.

Agreed! I followed Shelby’s recent tutorial of how to make BM powder foundation look like a liquid foundation and was amazed at how good it looked. She’s for sure the one to go to for tips on how to use Bare Minerals.

Karolina Berneheim it looked pretty good. I am 62 with dry/normal skin. It was NOT cakey, but I think I can still get it looking even a little better if I do a better job of buffing it in. It lasts good with a mask.

Hi Gemma! I love my bare minerals original, I am 54 with normal to dry skin. I agree with the previous comments about buffing and using the dedicated brush, and also about Shelbey Wilson, her channel is great (as is yours, I enjoy your videos very much!). I have quite fair skin, many of your listed foundation shades also match me, and in summer I wear the bare minerals fairly light 03. I have to go to a 02 in winter. I use a moisturizing primer underneath and a minimum of product on the brush, building up only where I need to. It doesn't settle into my lines that way.
Thanks for another interesting video and cheers from Canada!

I would suggest you watch Shelby Wilson on YT - she's the guru of Bare Minerals!! Also, I think you probably used too much, and didn't buff long enough. However long you think you need to buff, do it even more! The original powders were brilliant - blushes too!

I have used Bare Minerals for over 12 years. I am almost 65 years old. In recent years I began spritzing water over my face after applying the Bare Minerals. This sets it and it no longer looks powdery. I use the Mineral Veil later, after I have put on my eye shadow. And I make sure my face is well moisturized before putting any makeup on it.

  • @dorissherrill9724

I have used it for years, and per many comments already, the key is buffing. I love the Mineral veil to finish over my tinted sunscreen as extra protection. I love how it evens skin tone without making it look made up. The Kabuki brush is ideal for this application. It really is a learning process.

About 12-15 yrs ago my acne was driving me nuts. I was in my mid 40s living in a super hot & humid climate & I switched to all Bare Minerals. My completion cleared right up. It gave me excellent melt proof coverage. I stopped using it when I moved to a cold, dry climate. My 1 giant frustration with mineral powder everything is the fallout. I'd get powder everywhere. I got tired of the constant clean up. I may try it again because I've moved back to the hot, humid climate but now I'm 60. I prefer no makeup, a tinted sunscreen & maybe Laura Gellar Balance & Brighten. Oh and Well Rested is the bomb!
    Thanks Gemma.

  • @messywebdev
    @messywebdev 3 года назад +4

I love the loose foundation now. I had a hard time with my shade though. Mine is still too yellow but I got all my stuff right when the lock down was going on too. I love how it turns into a cream. You have to buff it into your skin for at least 30 seconds in small sections. I don’t use a primer with it, and I don’t even need to put the mineral veil on but I still do. It lasts all day and night when you buff it in. People really hate it because they just swipe it on and it just sits there so it looks bad. Once I started the correct application, it was game over. It looks so much better than a lot of the liquids I’ve used. I’m not a pro by any means and am learning so much right now. But I highly encourage everyone to try the BareMinerals loose foundation again if it didn’t work the first time. I just used my ITs cosmetics foundation brush, I don’t know which one but it has dense bristles and a flat top with slightly rounded edges. It turns out so great! You can really build up the coverage, it still looks like skin, and it truly truly blurred a lot of my pores. Nothing has ever done that except BareMinerals. I love their barepro liquid foundation too! They are inconsistent with the shades sometimes especially the mineral veil. They have to rely on natural ingredients, so sometimes they get a batch of mineral veil for example that is super super orange. The mineral veil I have is from a bad batch. So test in the store if you can, or test right away before the return policy is up. I spent over $200 last year on the website and half the stuff was awful. I almost didn’t make the return date for everything, one thing I was stuck with. Their products can just be so hit or miss. Their “touch of warmth” powders are all WAY too dark, too. So if anyone is interested in trying BareMinerals, just know that they have some stuff that is life-changing but they also have some stuff that is absolutely awful. No in between haha.

I've been hooked on Bare Minerals since 2003. I used various mediums, but now I prefer Fairly Medium with Well-Rested and the lightest Mineral Veil, using no bronzers. For touching up, many times it only requires a tiny amount more product and a little brush buffing lightly. The stuff applies easily, looks great, is relatively affordable and lasts a long time, plus it doesn't clog my pores and make me break out. It's blendable, buildable, and durable.

I am never without bisque, one at home, one on the go for spot concealing. I love the warmth in the loose minerals. It's lovely and a perfect bronzer. It's a different shade than the warmth in a compact. I wore the foundation for years but as I age my skin becomes dryer and it no longer works. The loose blushes are beautiful, as well. The Gen Nude eyeshadow palettes are some of the best.

I have really oily skin and love how this foundation melts in to me skin as the days goes on. I also find it seems to get more coverage as it warms to my face. I also love to use mineral veil with my liquid foundation as again when my oil starts to come through it melts into my skin look amazing. It makes it hard to use to much. If your oily you will only get 4-6 hours on its own but if you the glow then liquid foundation with veil will last all day. Also really helps me when I’m having break outs to clear my skin.

I tried BM products years ago, and was not a fan. I probably wasn't using it correctly because I felt like I was getting powder everywhere! I am VERY interested in the eye brightener and the mineral veil powder. ❤
PS The other reason I stopped using these products was because the only place to buy it was at a Bare Minerals store, so it was inconvenient. Now that it is sold at Ulta makes me want to try it again!

I've been using Bare Minerals for over twenty years. There are many things about it I really Love. I especially Love the fact that I can achieve a decent full face with minimal effort and no chemicals that break my face out. It's buildable, long-wearing, relatively natural-looking, and light-feeling. My face has gotten a lot more mature, so I will be experimenting mixing some with Tarte Shape Tape, placing primers underneath, etc., to see which version looks the most flattering. Since I'm getting married soon, it's worth the added experimentation.

The it Cosmetics no 7 brush is my absolute favorite foundation brush! It's so soft and applies my makeup beautifully! I have normal skin, drier in the winter. When I wear a powder foundation I always finish with a dewy setting spray which not only sets everything but it also makes the powder look airbrushed and satiny. I can't wear powder foundation alone without it looking very dry. I also wear a blush like Milani's baked blush in Luminoso. The sheen it provides also lends to the overall satin finish. :)

I wear Fairly Light 03 and would say your skin is darker than mine. It helps to buff mineral foundation into your skin much more than you might expect. You can re-buff the minerals later in the day to revitalise their appearance, without needing to necessarily apply more.

I'm a huge fan of Bare Minerals and have been wearing it for at least 15 years. The minerals seem particularly good and non-iritating under masks. And they wash out of mask material easily. I never quite got the purpose of Mineral Veil. Afterall, its just putting powder on top of powder, right! But now that I've seen it in action here, it realy does make a difference. I may have mentioned this before, but I mix loose Warmth into liquid foundations that are too yellow to "cool" them down. Can't say if the pressed Warmth will do the same.

The trick is, tap a tiny amount into the lid, swirl your brush, tap off the excess and swirl into your skin for much longer than you feel you need to. It's just amazing. And then you can build the cover as much as you want to. I have extremely dry skin, and I maintain gentle exfoliation with Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, which I've been using since 1996, moisturise, let it settle and then apply the foundation. I've honestly never had a problem.

I found the first time used a silicone primer with BM it made a remarkable difference. That might help your patchy areas. I used BM for years as a quick easy work look, especially while traveling. I began experimenting with other makeup after starting to watch YT videos, but I honestly haven’t found a line that works for me as much as BM did for years. I don’t want to have to think too much about my makeup. I just want it to work.

I used the original foundation in fairly light exclusively for nearly 20 years, and it is still one of my favorites, and my skin tone is close to yours. In all these years I have never found good use for the mineral veil, it always clings to my dry areas and pores on the nose. IMO it’s best to use a tad more foundation and buff about twice as much as you did. It seems to set on the face a few minutes later on its own in a beautiful glowy way. Love their blushes and loose eye shadows too.

I have always used a moisturizer first, these days Vichy serum 89 then a Vichy light moisture cream, then because I freckle very easily and don't love that (yes it looks good on some people) I then add SPF le roche posay, then the minerals when that has absorbed into my skin. It always looks great. It doesn't help my lifetime dry skin that I use Rentinol but while expensive if you can Avene intensive1.0 retinaldihyde (sp?) Is gentle but effective. 🕯 Merry Christmas!

I've been using the original mineral powder for twenty years now. I was extremely dubious, as a committed liquid and powder girl. I went to an open evening at a salon, and SJ Poole was there, who is the make up artist that represents BM on QVC.I was highly sceptical when she said that I would never go back to l&p. She was absolutely right. I struggled with very slightly itchy skin for the first ten days, and never looked back. At the time, BM didn't do pressed powder, so I got into Laura Geller Balance and Brighten for convenience. I love them. Some of the BM single mineral powder eyeshadow are extraordinary.

Hi I used BM for years with dry skin. I used a primer to smooth over any extra dry bits and the minerals themselves need to be buffed into the skin. This makes them much more creamy and they sit so much better on dry skin that way. The powder blushes and highlighters are also fab and were available long before all the pressed highlighters on the market (clear radiance immediately springs to mind, though there were many many more shades). I have rosacea and eczema, so a strong benefit of the loose minerals is a minimal ingredient list and how gentle they are for sensitive skin. Mineral veil is an excellent finely milled powder and I've used it for years, even with liquid foundation. it comes in a few shades and variations including more glowy versions with a slight pearlescent effect. I still like BM as a brand and use many of their cosmetics. Best wishes.

Bare Minerals powder foundation has *ALWAYS* been my ride or die foundation. I have normal/dry skin now (still an oily 👃 nose though, years ago I had normal/oily in t-zone)....where we're staying home I don't wear makeup as much anymore. I think the buffing of this BM powder makes my skin look great bc of the buffing. It's always looked like my skin, but I need to use it again. I do *NEED* that well rested for my under eyes. I have dark circles and it covers really nicely without using a concealer. Idk, it's always been my fave brand. Sheer Cover ™ was a great powder foundation brand, as well, but I think it went out of business. Thanks for this video, you looked sooo good in this makeup, it looked awesome on you!! 🥰😘😍

I started Bare Minerals when Leslie stared the company. It’s fantastic! You have to make sure these days that they don’t sell you the white brush that was invented for their liquid foundation. Make sure you buy the brush that was originally made for the loose powder. That’s very important to get the correct coverage the product promises. With that said it’s a beyond fantastic product. The lid a little powder in the cap, swirl your brush tap excess on lid and make circular motion. Walaaaa

Hi! Great video. Bare Minerals works best if you apply all the powder items first and then add the Mineral Veil at the end...it blends everything and gives a whole different look.

I haven't thought about Bare Minerals in years but I'm going to go revisit them after watching this. I bought the lance concealer that everyone raves about but I wasn't happy with it Because it settled in my wrinkles and my eyes look worse that when I started. So I think I will go back and try BM again.

Used to use BM all the time but, as I got older it seemed to settle in my lines. It is beautiful anyway and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it to someone without lines, like yourself Gemma.

I just got BM face products (already love the Gen Nude Rose eye palette) and used it for a week straight. I thought it looked a bit dry and mask like at first but wore very nicely and photographed beautifully. We went on a week long motorcycle trip and it held up surprisingly well with my full face helmet coming on and off a bunch. Your look turned out so fresh and youthful looking! I’m really liking the products. I have the pressed powder foundation, loose concealer powder and original veil along with a blush (a freebie I can’t recall the type) and a couple loose shadows which are beautiful too. I previously tried the Laura Mercier mineral foundation and hate it. It emphasizes my pores horribly. The Bare Minerals does not.

Sorry for a third post!! Please note that the foundation settles beautifully. It's also great after any skin treatments like depilatiin of laser, because it's so pure. It was originally marketed as make-up you can sleep in. If it feels too powdery, try a setting spray.

Hi Gemma :) I find wearing mineral makeup is much better for the skin, the powder is lightweight, the skin can breathe. I'm going to have to try and not use so much. Thanks for sharing your tips... very helpful 😊

I’ve used Bare Minerals products for years and absolutely love them! I used to use the powder but as I got older I noticed that the powder settled into my lines and pores and exaggerated them. I recently switched to the complexion rescue tinted moisturizer and love the product. However once I hit my 40s my skin became extremely oily. I still use the complexion rescue but have to use a light powder over it. I’ve also tried the complexion rescue stick and it works very well for oily skin

The bare minerals primer is essential in my view if you have dry skin. I use fairly light but struggled with their liquid equivalent as it looks too dark for me.

I got a bare minerals powder foundation a few years ago and it's my go to rushing out of the house skin perfecter! It's evens it all out, yes if you don't buff it for long enough or add too much it clings to dry areas but that's just practice and knowing your skin well enough to be light handed in certain areas. With the right shade and blush, I find I don't need a bronzer. Literally just the BM powder, a blush, some mascara and a tinted lip balm and balm I'm done! - fyi this is not a face covering friendly foundation! 😭

Feel like a cooler toned bronzer or more neutral like you said would be better. Have you ever used setting spray? A slightly dewy one might work great especially with a powder foundation 🙂

  • @luxeford9208

I think the only mineral powder I've used is the Laura Mercier's. From what other users said it was more light reflecting and more dry skin-ftiendly than the Bare Minerals one. I liked, but never used it much.
Clarins have an "almost" mineral powder - Skin Illusion - which is very flattering on even dry skin.
It's not talc free (confusing as talc is one of the most common minerals around, but makeup marketing isn't always logical), but still wears pretty much like a mineral powder: best when buffed into the skin and looks better as the day goes on.

I have severe dry skin, if I dont exfoliate my skin, it will be like scales. I find mineral foundation works really well if I I exfoliate my skin and use face oils and creams allow them to soak in before I use the mineral makeup. My dry skin is very noticeable with liquid makeup that's why I quit wearing liquid makup even if I exfoliate my skin. Mineral makup works well for me even though I have severe dry skin. I just have to prep my skin before I put it on. I use Everyday minerals.

    Hi Gemma
Regarding your dry patches , you said you couldn't find their primer and l think that would have helped a lot.
l am similar age to your Mum and a makeup junkie. l try all dewy type liquid and stick foundations but always go back to BM . l love the finish and find it does not settle in fine lines as liquids and finishing powders can. l also really love the loose eye shadows and blush really flattering for mature skin. The Gen Nude palettes also great.

I use the Bare Minerals Pro Foundation when I want a mineral foundation. I like it much better than the loose foundation. I use the Mineral Veil all the time, even with my other foundations. It's my favorite powder to use. I also use the Lashtopia but I use an eyelash primer with it. It seems to stop the flakiness.

Warmth was the original bronzer. They do have other shades now. Also I take a qtip and buff any areas that look a little cakey and it instantly perfects it
