Preserving Endangered Species: Baby Turtle Nursery

  • My friend, Charlie, keeps countless threatened and endangered species of turtles, which are used to educate and inspire others about the need for conservation and preservation. For years he's been keeping them in standard bin-style setups for ease of maintenance and care. That said, as we've been working together for the past few years, he's become more interested in display designs. Not only do they look better and allow the animals to exhibit a fuller range of behaviors, but they also make it easier for people to get inspired by the animals (that's what I think at least).
In this week's video, we make a proper display setup that various species of baby turtles will call home over the coming years. The hatchlings will grow up in it until they either move outside or make their way into other people's hands. Enjoy!

I had so much fun with this one and can’t wait to see what turtles it houses over the years. Also, what’s your favorite turtle species? I personally like Common Snapping Turtles the most. Let me know, and have a great weekend SerpaSquad!

This is probably the most beautiful video of yours I've seen, because while there is always the amazing aesthetics of your scapes, and the beauty of the animals, this one has the beauty of the concept for the tanks.
Best of luck to the conservation project!

So grateful for everything you teach us. As a child my best friend and I would catch painted turtles in the pond (amongst various other creatures) we'd keep them for the winter then release them in the summer. One time I had this baby about the size of a silver dollar and it did in fact get stuck between two rocks, and it drowned. I was only 9 years old and it was so heartbreaking I never housed a turtle again. Now that I'm a responsible adult (lol) I've really wanted to get back into it, but I want to do it the right way, and your channel has given me the confidence to do it in a responsible way. I love your videos, and I love the advocacy for the animals you care for 🙏🏼

Turtles are really cool, I have two kinds right now, still learning a bunch about them. Previous animals I would keep cats, fish, spiders, snakes, and lizards. Once I am confident, and had a regular set up for at least a year preferably two years I plan to get a few more turtles, possibly a tortoise. Watching these videos really helps me be more creative in the planning stages.
