I'm finally getting turtles! I've been planning this for months now, but I've been keeping it secret till now. I usually don't like to talk about stuff before I do it, but I just had to this time. These little turtles are so amazing! I hope you enjoyed coming along for the journey to see them. Have a great weekend SerpaSquad!
Turtles are long term pets. I and sister got two baby turtles back in 1971. Sister gave me her turtle, and now 51 years later I still am caring for those two turtles.
I'd say most reptiles and amphibians are long-term pets. Obviously turtles take that to an extreme, but it's not unheard for many other common species to live for 30+ years.
@UCIQWBL_INgGBTtlkiKOeXEg for example red eared sliders the most common pet turtle they’re average lifespan is 30 years there r turtle that live for really long but u don’t usually see ppl keepin em that’s the reason I asked wut turtle it was I was curious
Great video friend! I cannot wait for you to get the black breasted leaf turtles 👀🐢! I have 5 of them and they are truly some of my favourite animals I own!
I also love being in greenhouses or any place with tons of plants for sale, and I also touch most of the plants 🤣 I never knew anyone else did that so it made me laugh when you said you did it. Another great video as always!! You’re amazing, keep it up!
These kinds of videos make me so hopeful. My parents both had pretty dull experiences in adulthood, basically only being parents and workers, and it fills me full of hope that when I’m out of education and such I may be able to find a hobby as enriching as this and continue to thrive as an adult. You all seem so content with the work you do and it’s amazing. I had a hand at scaping my cresties terrarium nearly two years ago following your tutorial, and it was so much fun looking for plants and such. Sadly I’m not great at looking after plants! I’ve got more of a red thumb than green. Sadly my crestie passed this year, and I’m not sure if this hobby is the one for me, but I’m very happy I gave it a shot :)
Truly love how much you advocate for natural environments for the enclosures. I remember first getting into aquaria/terrariums and always just followed the commonly advertised route of artificial plants/decor/filtration/etc, but never really enjoying those too much. The past few years I've been more able to make my enclosures more natural and have seriously loved seeing the animals enjoy their time more than in the past. All your enclosures are seriously so thoughtful and is right up my alley of how I want to make future projects. I just need the space to start them! lool
Listening to these people talking about their pets, and the level of care and empathy and just, how fortunate we are to be able to share time with them really lifted me up today. Thank you!
I love plant nurseries too. It's not touch that gets me so much as scent, and I don't particularly mean flower scents. There are so many scents to explore and enjoy. Or sometimes not enjoy so much. :) Form too; a cactus nursery was amongst my favourites. I'm not sure, but I'm _guessing_ you wouldn't like a cactus nursery, Serpa! XD I love inquisitive animals too. Gerbils are my favourite, but that's partly because I never imagined a bright-eyed inquisitive turtle until now! It's the same with paludriums, actually; I'd never heard of them before RUclips showed me your desk video last year. I can't do much about my interest because of my health, but it's good to know these things exist. :)
I don't have a green thumb like you, but I like to touch plants too... touching nature is calming. I once purchased a very small pothos plant, kept next to my keyboard at work, touched the leaves everyday n spoke to it everyday... it grew extremely fast! I know they're an easy plant to grow, but they truly react well when given attention.
Tanner, I appreciate how real you are. You don't put on a voice or act out a persona, and in that way, I think it adds a depth of character to your videos.
Respect to all you guys for your knowledge and conservation of varieties of animals. What a great and noble devotions you have. It’s heart warming. Absolutely fantastic. Thanks a lots for your services from bottom of my heart. Lots of Love from India. ❤
haha I touch plants too, I can feel the texture, if they're stiff or delicate, dry, healthy, weak, underwatered etc. it's a big part of how I select them
AWESOMELY done!!!! I'm retiring soon and considering southern Florida. Been to the Everglades and the 'real' Florida and this program inspired me to maybe move down there and maybe do something with animals like lizards, turtles and who knows what??? Thanks Tanner for your inspiration and your positive attitude, your sensitivity to plants and animals and people! YOU ROCK!!!!
Slinky's new enclosure looks amazing!!! I remember when we thought he froze 😭😭😭 I can't wait to be able to build a "yard" like this for my sulcata! It will be more desert oasis themed 😊❤️
Just found your channel and wow… You go above and beyond on the details in your videos. Wish you the best as your channel continues to grow! Keep up the great work Tanner!!
Looks like it was a lot of fun and that makes me happy for you. You know, I stumbled on your channel early on and have watched it grow. You are such a kind, calm person with a nice vibe and an excellent sense for natural beauty. Seeing you in your element just made me smile. I am so very happy that you seem so happy and are living your best life. It really warms my heart to see all you do. To that end, every one of the people you introduced us to today seemed of a similar nature to you and it was just so pleasant to come on that journey and see a wonderful world I may not otherwise know about. Truly thanks for sharing this with us. Peace! ☮️
What a fun time in Florida! It would have suited me to watch a couple of hours of video. So tickled you’re getting your turtles! Thanks for a great (if short 😁) video.
My dad has a house in Cocoa, FL. I live on the west coast of Florida. When I visit him, he takes me to all these giant greenhouses. Idk if we have that many near where I live in Palmetto. I HAVE to touch the plants as well when we go. ALL of them. It's part of the experience!
Aww man that last place you visited with the indoor turtle section was amazing! I could watch a whole video on the ins and outs of his conservation efforts and husbandry! Those turtles were so interesting!
Those Black breasted leaf turtles got me right on the funny bone. The facial expressions of the one you filmed had me cracking up. 😆😂 Can't wait to see them at home with you. Hopefully they have hilarious personalities.
Great Florida adventures, Tanner! I'm so happy you had a fun trip to Florida. My friend Tyler and I saw you at Aquashella, we were so excited to meet you! We screamed watching this video because we're the first photo and our friend is the second one! 😂 We had a great time!!
Man tanner. I've been watching your videos since 2020 when I got into aquarium keeping. I got very into it because I had a lot of time to enjoy my animals. But sadly some life stuff just made it difficult to enjoy and care for my fish to the extent I really wanted to so I had to rehome them this year. I took a lot of inspiration from you and I have always enjoyed the videos you make and how much work you put into this all. I came to learn about this side of animal keeping but I stayed because of the beauty and love in your videos. ❤
I have a spotted turtle and he is the friendliest little guy he loves being held and he is just a hoot ❤ he is constantly trying to eat his air bubbles and it’s so cute
Charlie is such a great guy! So happy you guys got to meet up. He was excited for it. Spengleri are amazing too! I’ll get with Charlie about getting you a hatching this summer from one of us.
thanks for taking us along. also, just want to let you know you are a great inspiration and one of the reason i decided to become an aqua content creator.
I like to touch stuff when it’s new to me/when shopping. It’s just kinesthetic learning and it’s totally normal! Just another way of absorbing new information.
Awesome video compilation of your southern adventures!! Absolutely blown away by those outdoor havens (heavens!) 😲 and I'm now inspired to see what we've got here around Melbourne (Australia, not Florida haha) and do some adventuring myself. Looking forward to seeing the turtles join your own lil haven 🐢 and some Ts too don't forget! 🕷
Yay! Good for you! I'm focusing on my plants for now because caring for a mini zoo reqlly takes its toll for a one-man team. I feel you on the plants. I am exactly the same! That's why I don't wear gloves when gardening. It irks me that I can't feel the potting medium.
I love the Vlog style video. I know it's not really your thing, but it would be fun to see the occasional Vlog. You're at the top of the game and its amazing to watch you grow! One of your best videos to date!.
Great new video, really enjoyed watching every bit of it! Love the new addition, when you are able to bring him/her home, so cute. I love tortoises and turtles, have a real soft spot for them! My sister had a red eared slider when I was growing up (back when they were legal in the 80's), and I've rescued and later released an Eastern Box turtle. I love/dread Spring because that means I'm gonna have to pull over and move the little guys and girls when they start trying to sun in the road, before the weather gets too hot. Keep up the great work, love Sammie's pics! I also love the native toads in our area, Memphis. We don't have as many as we used to, there was a virus or something that has wiped a lot of them out? Not sure but I miss them. Take care!
Where I live between 2 of the bigger towns is a area where the whole highway is just nursery after nursery. We have to go through that area to get to our airport of choice and we try our best to go on Sunday's when they are all closed because I want to stop at every single one of them 😆
So cool. I don’t know much about Vietnamese leaf turtles but I do know that turtles and tortoises next to fish are my favorite animals! I have a cherry head tortoise myself, and Erwin, is one of the coolest animals I’ve ever owned. I’m going to be building him a nice big outdoor paddock this summer since he is finally big enough to be in the yard with little concerned for him being eaten by other predators. It was awesome talking to you and talk with Sheila. I hope that you had a safe trip home and can’t wait to shake your hand again next year!🤘🏻🐠🥰🦯
I'm really looking forward to your completed turtle build. Btw, I completely understand the plant-touching thing. I do the same....plus I talk to them.
You are a huge inspiration to me! I have been building my pond today. I love watching your videos. I have 20 tanks and the pond loving the hobbie. Thanks for your videos!
I relate to the "touching" thing. Although I do buy things online due to necessity, I always prefer to buy in person. I'm very tactile and want to see things up close and touch. Gives me a sense of quality, and for living plants the health also.
It looked so amazing to be there with all those amazing species. I'm glad that these places are for education and conservation. I would love to know who's doing breeding to release for allowing the species to thrive in the wild. So cool! Thanks for all the work and time. I wish this video was 2 x longer lol.
Hey, Tanner! I have a cool idea. Why not make a aquarium with geodes? Maybe give it an underground feel to it too! Hope you see this. Keep up the great work.
Wonderful clip, as yours are! It must be cool to get to travel and meet interesting and like-minded people. Doesn't Dayyan also have several Black-breasted turtles? I think someone called them 'Googley-eyed turtles'. I'd love to have the room for these and an Ackie or Green Tree Monitor. Oh, and some colorful, chirpy tree frogs. ...and maybe a tarantula! The odd thing is, I'm 73½ now, but in my teens, designed a tank with 2-levels, a rock-lined bowl of water, a nice, smooth manzanita branch over a substrate of local soil scattered with typical forest-floor detritus and a few live plants. I married (much later) a guy who collects snakes and soon had a sweet Snake Room with a nice collection. But nothing like this since I was in my twenties. And I miss the hobby...
My dream animal is a Cuban rock iguana. I would love to have a full enclosure with an outdoor portion for them. Maybe some climbing stuff too. To see one taken care of so well makes me so excited.
So enjoyed watching this. Amazing animals and people, it's what makes this hobby so great. Love that rock iguana especially. So excited to see your new turtles and their setup!
Honestly, tortoises are just brilliant. A lot of research needs to go into caring for them properly, but once you’ve read up then they are just a joy to care for and not much work.
I worked in a tropical greenhouse for 19 years and touched a lot of plants. What's interesting is how they respond to touch. They like to be gently dusted and don't mind being groomed if it involves removal of a dead or dying leaf. But if I had to prune for shape they would freak out! A plant in distress sends out a chemical alarm call that alerts all the plants that the crazy lady with the pruners is headed their way. You can smell it and taste it on the back of your throat. Your eyes start to sting, and if you're not wearing gloves, it burns your hands. I always felt so awful because that is the plants way of screaming. Once everybody calmed down, I would apologise and reassure them that I still loved them.
what an awesome video to know more on reptiles and a little overview on their care, makes me be curious about them more, and such a great video 😀 and super congratulations on the award that you got 😀
I'm finally getting turtles! I've been planning this for months now, but I've been keeping it secret till now. I usually don't like to talk about stuff before I do it, but I just had to this time. Awesome video as always! 🙂 Just wow so cool! Can't wait to see you get the turtles you want! That's gonna be epic! 🙂
Can’t wait to see the incredible enclosure you create for them!
Excited to see your care and future videos with turtles, always inspiring!

I like to rub lettuce on my weiner!
Who doesn't do that?!

What an adorable, feisty little guy.
So much personality behind those eyes
I love the turtle you said was yours. Those eyes are amazing. Kind of alien-ish. Everywhere you went was fantastic.
Yeah they're goofy little animals. Huge personalities though and really cool.
I've been thinking about another turtle (I used to rescue boxies here in NC) and I'm definitely interested in that species!
I really like this guy. I've seen dozens of his videos. He never talks down to his audience.
I’ve visited the U.S many years ago and hadn’t planned on going back, until I saw this video…… thanks tanner! ❤️🇦🇺
leaf turtles are probably my favourite terrestrial turtle species. There's probably aquatic species I like more but these are def up there.
Very good energy and conversation between the two of them - no competitiveness, only sharing information and their love for animals.
It's about time!!!! Charlie is one of the greatest people ever. I'm so glad you're finally getting into turts! 🐢🐢🐢

Wow all of these people are amazingly cool! Thank you for sharing.
I don't touch *all* the plants, but I like touching plants at greenhouses, they have different textures and surfaces and it's interesting and nice. :)
