DIY Naturalistic Bog Filtered Garden Pond for Turtles

- In this week's video, I teamed up with some friends to build a pond! This one was a little different, though, because we had to create it from a few stock ponds. Our other friend, Charlie, texted and explained that we wanted to build a cool breeding setup for two albino snapping turtles using these ponds, we had full creative freedom otherwise.
We put our heads together and with a little bit of planning, a lot of work, and fun, I think we came up with something that looks incredible! You would never know this is a stock pond setup, unless we told you! Anyway, the rest of the video speaks for itself, so enjoy the build and let me know what you think in the comments.
ALSO, the pond is much bigger than it look. We were able to retain the majority of the space within the basin. It just doesn't appear that way from the top with all the branches and plants, but that was a purposeful decision. We wanted to ensure that the turtles had somewhere cool they can go during the heat of the Florida Sun.
Check out my friend's channels for more turtle content!

This past week I linked up with some friends to build this awesome DIY pond down in Florida! It was a lot of fun and I think the results are incredible. Although we worked together, I think this could easily be done as a solo operation or with a different group of people. I want to know what you think, though. Let me know in the comments!
I thought it was great it looked like you all enjoyed which was good to see i love the larger pond builds
Serpa what do you mean with a different group of people 😭 that sound shady lmao
@SerpaDesign Tanner, you set the standards on building outstanding water features/ habitats, for all manner of creatures! This is now my favorite build- of anyone's ever. Until you do the next!🤣 Keep up the good work dear!
Can I get the name brand of the kind of pump you used. I’m trying to do something similar to y’all’s build for some koi and goldfish
cool
This was such a fantastic experience! It was an absolute pleasure working with you and witnessing your genius. 🐢🐢🐢
Hi!
@DanTheTurtleMan I'd love to see you collaborate again!
Hell yeah doing the heavy lifting 💪🏻
@@JessicasAnimalFriends 💪🏼
hows your back feeling Dan?
Incredible vision, design and build. Amazing memories, friendships and definitely laughs!
I will enjoy this for years to come!
Thank you endlessly Dan, Greg, Nate and Tanner.
You're a great mentor for these guys.
@@piteusx8440 thanks. It’s a win-win
The design is so perfect in the space.
It's so awesome that people are flying you and a film crew (welcome Nate) to do installations. Maybe you'll do something at a botanical garden, aquarium, or zoo one day.
Yes! He should definitely do more remote projects
I'm impressed by how natural it looked at the end.
charlie is gonna have little baby cute albino snapping turtles
I love anything Tanna does- it’s the brilliant content his love for his animals & his dreamy voice 😊 thanks maté looking forward too the next one 😊
1:04 felling a tree with a bunch of competent and handy folks and it still almost hits two people. From my own experience and hearing from others, it never ceases to amaze me how hard it is to fell a tree safely.
Even though i have no idea about landscaping or building ponds I still love watching all of these videos its just so calming and onistly makes me learn 1 or 2 things each video
Wow quite a few of those moments looked hernia-inducing. I hope everyone is okay (albeit possibly nothing more than a bit sore with a few scrapes surely) and the whole thing turned out beautifully as always!
I actually only get a hernia doing crunches 🤣 this wasn't bad!
TANNER. NO WAY. I actually am in the process of building a pond for my painted turtles out of two stock tanks! One is buried and the other small one will be above with a spillway!! Im so excited to watch this because I've been on my own for the whole process so far. This will be a great way to get ideas and some instruction for my project! My bigger pond is already buried, and im getting the pump set up for the spillway one right now.. just not sure how to make sure it spill correctly yet. Ive never found a video so unexpectedly relevant haha, thanks for making this!!
These are the times that you will cherish because they are shared with friends!
That was one of my favorite parts. The friendships. We had fun after hours out looking for wildlife in the Everglades
@@charlie_moorcroft I live in Palmetto. I've been to the outside edge of the Everglades. Next time, I'm going to explore because that does sound so fun!! ☺️
Six guys hauling in a log…”We added branches.” Epic! 🙌🏻
I really appreciate your speaking about difficulties, as well as various ways of solving problems.
"Incredible stump". Indeed!
Your imagination never ceases to amaze me.
I found this channel when I was younger and man did it plant a seed. I now have a bonsai forest and religiously collect moss whenever I can 😣😂
good that bracing was added , the top cut off part is actually bracing
I live in Thailand and I really like what you guys do.❤❤❤
Had a saying in my youth...60s...
Inspiration breeds perspiration. I have found that, alot of the time, perspiration breeds innovation.
OMG, my favorite people all in a video .. I can't wait 🍿!!
I need to find some tubs like this for my above ground pond, I'm trying to my make for our 1 turtle 🥰🐢!
This looks amazing 🤩!!
Sounds like someone got their groove back ;)
What a great build; this project in particular really feels like one of your miniature manufactured landscape terrarium builds scaled up to the human aspect ratio, or I suppose in this case turtle aspect ratio.
The channel has come a long way, I would include SerpaDesign on a list of replacements to broadcast programs on networks such as HGTV. I'm so glad you are able to showcase this talent you have been developing throughout your life, and that you genuinely want to share not just the content of your creations, but the knowledge and experience you have devoted so much of your time and self in pursuit of.
Para-socialism goes both ways; I enjoy your channel because of what you choose to present, and 'chat' can be a hive-mind of self-absorbed individual demands, finding and maintaining a healthy balance is incredibly difficult, I think you're handling it well but hey, don't forget to breathe sometimes.
Take care and peace Serpa-Dude.
10:55 that incredibly quick snap from the turtle is terrifying
camera couldnt even catch it properly
Lucky turtles! Go make babies in the beautiful bog pond. So fantastic. This is my favorite pond build yet!
Oh to be an animal owned by tanner. The plants really bring everything together for me, everything seems so bare and sparse until all the green is added. Not to mention the colorful rocks and darker mulch!
This gives me hope that someday, I'll have the pond of my dreams to display my bonsai trees. This is totally doable with some creativity!
Lime stone also keeps the ph from dropping, high Ph in the beginning of a pond build, but later it will be crashing and the limestone is awesome to counteract that drop.
Tanner, your channel is a gift. You have inspired hundreds if not thousands of people to develope a passion for landscaping and terrerium building and you teach good, sustainable values at that. Because of your work I have been inspired to build a pond and eventually a cohesive, healthy landscape in my currently shabby back yard. I have been watching your videos and many others and have been deep in my notebooks planning every detail. I will dedicate my pond to you when its done!
gotta watch the video but... day five of asking for you to raise a mantis!!
Why cant u raise t urself
I second this
it's not even a long commitment 😭 like full lifespan is a year... after they teach adulthood its max 6 months
@@ghost-fs7th i just think maantis are cool and i wanna see him raise a lotus mantis
@@tomba47 because there are no mantis where i live and im not even allowed to buy stuff without any permission, specifically pets
Semi exotic waterfowl, gamebirds and doves look fantastic in setups like this, as well, plants can be a bit more tricky and the have to be full enclosed.
Incredible, looks like it's been there for years. Love to curved palm over the stone.
This pond is really beautiful. I enjoyed watching Dan's video and Greg's preview video too, I appreciate getting to know Charlie a little bit through your videos. Thank you.
Long time subscriber but haven't comented that much. It make me so happy to see you building bog filters. Totally in line with nature. I spend a lot of time getting koi keepers to understand how awsome they are for pristine water quality. Your execution of it is as expectet. Great work Tanner!
Totally agree!
Certainly the most naturalistic honeymoon suite I've ever seen!
Came out great I absolutely love it 🙌 I hope you all have a great day and enjoy your weekend 🙋♂️✌️
That has got to be one of the most beautiful ponds I have ever seen.
The pond looks naturally beautiful! Well done Tanner.
Stunning! Charlie is a hero and I love his endangered small turtle colonies!
Thanks 😊
Very cool Tanner! Nobody could notice that this little piece of jungle started with stocking mini pools!
Thanks for sharing 😎👌
The long neck turtle I rescued today would love this! Well done guys!❤️🇦🇺
This is so gorgeous! I love the peaceful sounds of the waterfall. Those turtles are so lucky!
I love seeing these types of projects.
Such a peaceful waterfall, thanks ❤️
He absolutely killed that camera man at 1:43 😂
Greg’s turtlehaven has the exact same footage from a different angle. It’s also a great video of the build.
I got to admit I was a little skeptical when I saw the ponds you were working with prior to starting. Boy was I wrong, it looks amazing! Well done fellas!!
Im really excited to see this. I have a pond I built when I moved in and it has a little waterfall with a pump in the bottom of the pond. I have to constanly clean the pump so I want to enlarge the pond and incorporate a bog. This helped me envision it better and gives me motivation. As always I love your content.
That stock pond creation came out beautiful, extremely natural and functional, nice collaboration!!
*This is AWESOME. You can no doubt get away with having longer videos though! your content is amazing and I'm sure we would all love to see more detail*
This is ultimate "me and the boys" energy and I love it
Looks amazing btw :)
That black t-shirt person was running from the woods like his running for his life
Lol
babe wake up! tanner just made a naturalistic bog filtered garden pond!
Inspiring video. I am just starting almost from scratch to landscape my entire yard. I had planned on taking advantage of a shady corner for a woodland garden. From your example, I see I need a water feature.
This turtle paradise pond looks like it has been there forever. - Well done!
Beautiful! I am so green with envy, I sucked the color right out of the turtles.
Them common albino snapper are beautiful 😍
Great work in disguising the stock ponds. Loads of inspiration for scaling down to a small pond for small fish and frogs. Thanks for the video!
what a terrific experience. After having to dismantle your own pond I'm sure this went a great way towards filling that mental space for you. Lucky us for being able to come along in the journey.
this is gorgeous! I am so proud you came up with this!! can you do a follow-up when we get some albino bebes?
This is so good! I want to copy this one. Thanks for all the great content, Tanner. Take care.
Fantastic work. Those guys need to stay away from chainsaws though
Lucky turtles! Amazing group effort!
6:00 going above and beyond just to cut corners lol
Gorgeous! I can't create anything like this but you've given me some ideas to head for this look in my garden.
Serpa and Dan the Turtle Man in the same video!? Why am I so lucky?
I love how this turned out! You're right, I would have no idea this was made of stock ponds :0 Also, the editing on this video is amazing. I really love the pacing of everything.
Nice team work! It was beautiful and functional. Congratulations. I wish the turtles a long life. Cristina Pinto, São Paulo, Brazil 👏👏👏🤗❤❤🇧🇷
The result is really beautiful! Watching the whole process from start to finish is very informative and inspiring. You all did a great job, even the turtles approve!
It looks like Nature put it there! I especially love the palm tree.
This looks amazing! I love the jurrasic park feel of it!
That is so cute! They looked like "HEY! For me?!" 10:54
Absolutely looks like it’s both natural and been there for years. Beautiful work. Those are some lucky turtles (and hopefully baby turtles to be).
Art , pure art ! Wish I could do this... 😅
Oh my goodness you are just so talented in what you love.
A true Master artist in your own field.
I have never watched one of your videos that didn’t make me want exactly what I just seen thank you so much Tanner.
This was just Beautiful
Totally wonderful! It looks fabulous. ~Gina Hetlage
It's crazy that during construction these ponds look terrible but at some point everything comes together and they end up quite easy on the eyes. Great job, the finished product is so far removed from the stock ponds used. A great demonstration of your skills!
Beautiful build!!! I hope one day to be able to build something similar when we are not Renting. Please get footage of the pair in the future if you can!! We'd love to see them in the cleared up established pond
So interesting and amazing to watch. Thank you for sharing this collaboration. I’ve always said when you’re doing what you love, it isn’t work. It’s obvious you all are doing what you love.
How much does something like this cost? Obviously elminating the need for hiring people to install it for you, just the plants and basins and pumps and that because you got a decent amount from the forest
I have the same question
I thought wattles was in the comments with ur pfp lol
Chris Lanza did a pretty good job of breaking it down, but yeah depending on size and plant/rock choice price will go up and down but expect a starting cost of around $1,500-3,000.
@@chrislanza9420 Thanks this is actually a really good explanation
Roughly 3,000 for all supplies
Yer looking like somewhat of a rockstar doing this big project in Fl wth your shades. Role model energy!
He is a rockstar
i bet he'll love this video so much.
10:53 when the turtle does this ULTRA fast snap
jesus christ it was so fast
amazing project !! the pond looks amazing, lucky turtles ! ^^
Very nice! Each pond you do gets better!
from the turtles perspective "hey! its our natural home, we enjoy it", imagine earth is something like that from aliens just to house humans, after the crust, gigantic engine emitting heat and spinning the whole earth.
This video is amazing I love snapping turtles and building ponds
Beautiful build! Have been watching your channel for so long and you have never disappointed me, only inspired!
Very nice pond! (I would not have obscured the view of the waterfall with the tree log)
you should get a desert rain frog and at it to the animal room! they’re supper site and interesting!!!
Wow you really can make something out of anything!! I am convinced of that... I could only wish to be half as smart, talented, and gifted as you!! 10 out of 10 🌟
You guys have amazing creativity.. and great teamwork success for you all
😎 awesome build and nice again. I hope you can make another naturalistic diy pond that's fixed on a conncrete wall and with high and tiered waterfall...
Hopefully you can build something like this for your snapping turtle
I’ll help. 😃
@@charlie_moorcroft I think we'd all love to help him, Mr. Moorcroft!! Thank you for being a wonderful rescuer yourself! I adore your Cherryhead Tortoises! (I'd love to visit your turtles, but I'm unable to travel-so I'll just be an internet fan!)
wow, I live in Florida and I didn't know you could get rocks that size.
You all did some amazing work with that.
Nate is my spirit animal
absolutely love it. I'd love something like that in my garden. Great work 👏
Amazing, amazing job guys! Very inspirational, and wonderful narration.
it would be really cool if u make a build where plants r growing out of a telescope next XD
Very well planned and executed. The ultimate DIY pond!
This is incredible! Insane! So beautiful! What a wonderful piece of art - and I'm so happy to hear the turtles adapted to it just in the blink of an eye. Great work, Tanner! :) Great work, all of you.
That's beautiful! You guys really went all out and made a fantastic pond. Definitely me new favorite.
I love seeing you do larger builds like this just as much as I love your smaller builds! Beautiful as usual :)
