He literally named himself after a comic character. What a legend
@John fuckin nerd! I love it
@@WesleyRiot Yeah. Because if I remember right he was almost a Superman choice for a movie.
@@johnlucas6683 no it was his superman movie, you can google him in the costume, they unfortunately cancelled the film before much could be done
And at a time when comic books weren't as mainstream as nowadays to boot.
@@MondeSerenaWilliams Luke Cage wasn't even common for nerds back then. The dude was an absolute mega geek nerd
I was today years old when I found out that “Nicolas Cage” is not the name that “Nicolas Cage” was born with
So that must mean you’re actually “Toddler” years old 😐….. or just totally uncultured 🤷♂️

Oh yea, knowing that really makes you cultured.
I’ve known this for @ least 2 decades and that doesn’t mean sheeit.

Most people don't know it, but Cage is just old school Henry Cavill
And he was almost superman😭
I hate that this is now in my head. Thanks.

No offense op, but I'm calling you out. You're a liar.
In this clip he masterfully underplays the fact that he's related to one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and so that name would follow him for better or worse if he had kept it. He points to it with the reference but just barely.
Yeap, it's called modesty
Wait. WAIT. He's related to Francis Ford Coppola?!
@@christopherbronson3275 yep, coppola is his uncle
People underestimate, through his antics and roles, how classy Nick is
he is the irl saul goodman
Fun fact. Nick cage has a ghost rider tattoo that they had to make up over when filming ghost rider. The cage is a nerd, and we love him for it
Imagine having a tatoo of something you love and then starring in it and having it have to be removed digitally because of the story lol
They didn't cgi they used makeup to cover it.
Immensely easier
Oh I still love the fact, Ghost is my favorite
He also spends all his money buying Gothic castles. He's living the nerds dream
Almost certainly makeup for a tattoo. We saw how difficult and bad it looks when a studio has to CGI out something, like Henry Cavill’s mustache in Batman v Superman, which somehow looks worse than Cesar Romero’s makeup’d over mustache but cost millions of dollars.
People freaking out about his stage name meanwhile he also named his second son Kal-El.
No way!!!
rad!!!!!
yeah this guy is unhinged
Wait here, I'll back.
I'm back, his son really is named kal el
be honest that is an awesome name
"Speaks volumes about everything I've been up to ever since."
It sure does.

People seem confused. Cage is part of the Coppola dynasty, and is fourth generation of five generations making and starring in US films. His uncle is Francis Ford Coppola, director of Apocalypse Now (as mentioned) and the Godfather trilogy. This obviously makes Talia Shire his aunt and Sofia Coppola, and Jason and Robert Schwartzman, his cousins.
In total, the family has 23 Oscar nominations and 9 wins.
I had no idea until today/this video. 🤯
Okay. I knew Nic was a Coppola.
I did not know that Jason Shwartzman was related to the Coppola family too.
He changes his name every generation so people never learn his dark secret of being undead
Hey I heard that somewhere too
Bwhahaha😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😅🤣😂🙃

I love how he answers questions. There is no manufactured magic to it, no snobbery. He just gives you a straight answer and then moves on lol. Kind of rare with celebrities.
Which is ironic because people think Nick is weird and eccentric
He poked fun at himself at the end too
@@OMartinez91 Yeah he is neither, he just plays those roles and get typecast in them because people think he is.
I mean he slightly dances around the fact that he didn't want to be known as a nepo baby, not really a straight answer
@@KoochKicker well, that’s probably how it was cut. I was wondering why people were saying the love the smell of Nicholas line, it made no sense without the nepo context
Nicolas Cage changing his name to Nicolas Cage is the most Nicolas Cage thing ever
To this day, I still call Nicolas Cage Johnny Cage
Finally someone who has played mortal kombat
Named himself after a comic book character and an avant-garde composer extraordinaire, what a legend
sometimes i forget hes such a nerd at some things... love it!
The best piece of movie trivia ever is that Nic Cage was supposed to be cast as SuperMan but the movie got cancelled
You can't be a nerd "at some things."
You are a nerd or you are not. You either care more about education than socializing, or you don't.
You can be a Geek of specfic things, but by definition a Geek is not a Nerd (a Nerd though can be a Geek).
You Zoomers just hate to use language for effective communication, huh?
Words have meaning. Otherwise, "you're just a quickly orange top cat fly write fall"
@@topogigio7031 Calm down Captain Autism.
@@topogigio7031 your main concern is whether or not a geek can classified as a nerd and how a “nerd” is a nerd “about everything” than you seem concerned about having a productive conversation where you contribute to the discourse.
But apparently “Zoomers” are the problem instead of the fact that you decided to nitpick and be pedantic about a random positive comment.
Like. No one asked you.
Are we not going to draw attention to how self aware, sly, and brilliant he is when saying:
"Speaks volumes about everything I've been up to ever since"
He one of my favorite actors. He doesn’t care if the movie is ‘wildly’ successful. It’s about the love of conveying a message. The movie ‘Joe’ did just that, and I loved it!
Also, if you haven’t seen it, ‘Revenge: A Love Story’. A raw take on a police officer seeing the system fail so he goes John Wick to set the situation right
If anyone doesn't know, John Cage was an absolute madman of a composer. If you go down the rabbit hole of the songs he wrote, you'll find some crazy things.
One of my favorite musicians of all time. And incredibly influential.
He dances gracefully around the thin line separating avant-garde music and advanced shitposting
The piece most people have probably "heard" would be 4"33", or four and a half minutes of uninterrupted silence
@@sugarqbs John Cage also used pianos he altered the sound of putting objects over different parts. He called them "prepared pianos".
Well he also wanted to avoid charges of nepotism because his uncle is Francis Ford Coppola
Yeeeeeep
That's the only reason he changed it I'd bet
Had that with Talia Shire (Rocky's wife Adriann) as well
Its not "also" lol. That's exactly what they were doing by saying those things. He basically said thats what he wanted to avoid in this clip. Just not directly.
Except he owes his entire career to that nepotism, lol. Don't get me wrong, I love Nicolas Cage, but his uncle gave him the lead role in several of his movies in the '80s.
His choice of words are amazing. This is very well spoken man.
He's already one of my favorite actors but now he just went two times higher!!!!!!!HE named his name after a black superhero! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I don’t think race has much to do with this but cool
As a nerd art major the fact that he not only knows who John Cage is but named himself after him and Power Man made my stupid little heart so happy.
Mine too. Smh at myself and everything

Don't ever tell anyone you're a professional nerd art major in real life.
Intelligent, big minds create stupid, little hearts hahaha IM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU!!! 🤗
He really named himself after the composer famous for composing silence...
Nicolas Cage is a National Treasure.
I didn't really take him seriously for a while then I saw an interview where he answered questions about a small chunk of his (at the time) just over 80 films he had been in and he was so excited that he had all these opportunities. the way he talked about being an actor and how happy he looked made me really respect the guy.
I like the way he didn’t like people saying “I love the smell of Nicolas in the morning” so he proceeds to change his surname
It’s his last name they were making fun of more or less.
@Onyx Cartier how? I'm so lost.
@@dontknowyoubutloveyou same
@@dontknowyoubutloveyouit’s a month later, but no one has answered so here goes.
The reference people were making was dependent on Nic’s surname of Coppola, given that the director of “Apocalypse Now” (the movie being referenced) was Francis Ford Coppola. The jokes were also not-so-subtle suggestions that Nic’s roles at the time were based on nepotism and favoritism, given that Coppola was Nic’s uncle.

He seems like such a fascinating man, I love watching interviews of him.
He's weird, but he's self aware. That's rare
And this is why Nicolas Cage is one of the coolest actors of all time, I don't care what anyone says, Ghost Rider 1 was a great movie
Low key, spirit of vengeance had great effects it was just bogged down by a mediocre story.
Agreed
Nicolas Cage is great, but Ghost Rider was not a "great movie".
Mediocre at best, though fun when you're 12.
Bro put himself into a literal metaphorical cage.
Now he looks like a Mob mastermind character
Our percussion studio just did a John Cage concert last semester so this was crazy to hear
Them: "I love the smell of Nicolas in the morning"
Nicolas: maybe if I change my last name they'll forget my first name
It's because he has the same last name as the director of Apocalypse Now. I think they're related?
Luke Cage is an awesome character in Marvel comics. He was one of my favorites growing up too. John Cage wrote 4'33 which is still one of my favorite songs ever. It really captures The Music of The Spheres. Gets me every time. I'm listening to it right now in fact.
This might be the best use of a short I’ve ever seen
Nick we need you as the ghost again.
He added that John Cage part since the 80's/ 90's. He used to stop it at the Power man explanation. I always heard it was an anti nepotism move, but hes Nick Cage, he can have whatever origin story he wants.
Him liking John Cage really really speaks volumes on his performances. That’s incredible never even knew he changed his name…
Speaks volumes to everything I’ve been doing ever since
It’s so true though. Dude is a maniac.
I liked that part too!
Dude the fact it’s partly because of luke just made me love this man more
Nick Cage should play Old Cap. He looks so much like an older Chris Evans, they should play family characters.
That was an iconic awnser
He’s like a reverse nepo baby
But he is a nepo baby, he's just one that doesn't act like he didn't get any help to be where he is. Also he's actually talented, while being a nepo baby.
He's literally just a regular nepo baby. He's talented in his own right and has created his own self image so it's not a knock against him but a stage name just does not negate the advantages of having family in the industry
@@markeschen6272the advantages are also disadvantages real quick if you can't back it up. It can shut doors just as quick.
LEGEND!! This man has made movies to be so many characters, to challenge himself, to do things differently and I’ve always loved that you never know what he’ll do next! His “bizarre” screen appearances are great because he’s not afraid to really put himself out there. AMAZING ACTOR!
What are you talking about “so many characters”? He plays the same exact character in every single movie, his egotistical self.

That's not Spider-Man Noir but live action
i was not expecting that, luke cage??? literally in love with the characters and him he stars with, like in jessica jones or defenders 😭
"They made fun of my first name. So I changed my last name."
What.
They didn't make fun of his first name, but of the fact that he is related to Francis Ford Coppola. So he just wanted to avoid accusations of nepotism, i guess.
Thank you for catching that too! That's exactly what I was wondering too! 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you! I thought the same thing
They weren't making fun of his first name, they were making fun of him being related to Francis Ford Coppola, hence why they were making Apocalypse Now jokes towards him. He changed his last name so people wouldn't know he was related to a famous director.
How can people be so dense, its actually terrifying. They made fun of his family connection to copolla, not his first name. Jesus christ
That's my reminder to rewatch "mandy"

This makes no sense at all. If you had a problem with them using your first name in such a context, why did you only change your LAST name???? 😂
They were only making that joke because his surname was still Coppola, same as his uncle who directed apocalypse now. Change the name, you remove the link/ accusation of nepotism.
This one single clip has made me love Nick Cage even more than I ever did.

Nvm I found out they said that cause his uncle directed apocalypse now and that’s where he was being made fun of so he changed the last name to not be associated with Coppola.
It worked because I didn’t even know until a few years ago when my cousin, who worked at Coppola’s winery, told me about meeting Cage at a family event there
Been out to the winery some years ago. Had a great tour. One of the people in our tour group was a real wine connoiseur and got a private tour of wine vaults.
