@@GOHUNT I'm so pumped to get out and do this style of hunting. I've backpacked my whole life. Hunted my whole life...now I'm going to combine the 2. I grew up in Northern Idaho, Pierce to be exact. I'm used to brush hunting, and I'm ready for something new. Just snagged the Hells canyon speed in 300win mag. This season can't come fast enough
@@thomasknapp7236 Pierce, ID is in beautiful country. The logging was going strong, when our family lived in a tent there summer of 1954. Daddy was hauling logs to the little saw mill. Us kids ran wild that summer. We found some mules, chased them for a couple of days, and finally ran them into an old, roofed, hay lean-to. We eared one down and oldest brother had one heck of a short ride. We spent days swimming in the creek, berry picking, and poaching when necessary. A family of six with teenagers can eat your folks into the poor house. It was one of the best Summers we ever had.
Using my kids account. Anyways I hunt in Idaho around the Frank church areas. We use long range guns and practised with them all summer. 338 edge and shoot deer from 400 to 1000 yards.

The problem with hunting in idaho is the following: 1. introduction of wolves. 2. The huge influx of population mainly Californians. 3. The fish and game not being able to manage animals due to the increase of hunters. So many hunters now its a sea of camo along all the mountains. The opportunity to get a tag to hunt and actually killing something is dismal compared to the past. All I have to say is Idaho is full.
The wolves are the least of the problem. I hunted Idaho for 20 years before I moved to eastern Oregon. The wolves had 0 effect on the overall numbers....0. The larger problems are housing development on their wintering ground and pressure from assholes on 4 wheelers and side by sides.

Great hunt for you guys. Gotta love the damage all the sheep do, not. Really wish the sheep and cattle ranchers would keep their own livestock on their land and leave the public lands for the wildlife.
Evie Uretsky it goes back over 100 years. When the West was settled the ranchers found that he who controlled the water controlled the land. Under the laws at that time if someone could prove beneficial use of the water it could be filed on under the appropriation doctrine of first in time first in right. Pretty much all of the year round springs in the West were filed on by ranchers or their employees who after they proved beneficial use and title to the water sold it to the boss. When the Government came in with the BLM and Forest Service they decided to regulate the grazing. They established the AUM or Animal Unit Month system on federal lands. An AUM is classified as 1 cow weighing 1000 pounds and her calf or 7 ewes. The land was broken up in allotments. Each Allotment is assigned an amount of AUM units for a Specific amount of time. The grazers are supervised by a government employee called a range conservation officer. As part of the grazing permit the permittee has to keep up the water sources or haul water. In Nevada for example there are lots of stock wells that were drilled to supplement seasonal springs. Most of the big game and wild horses drink from ranchers stock tanks and ponds. The government agencies and the ranchers control the grazing of all of the animals in an area by either allowing the water to flow or shutting it down depending of the time of year. When we farmed in Nevada we had deer, elk, antelope and wild horses coming in to drink the irrigation water and eat the hay. If you go to buy a ranch with grazing permits you will find that there is let's say 10,000 acres of private ground scattered across 500,000 acres of grazing permits. All of the private is the water holes and irrigated land. The Government really can't run off the permittee because the Ranchers have the water. It is true that he who controls the water controls the land.
Evie Uretsky that water is NOT on public land. That land and water is Private Property. It was deeded from the Government close to 150 years ago. All water in Creeks and Rivers and reservoirs is owned by someone. It is called Water Rights. It was distributed under the appropriation doctrine of first in time first in right. The first one to make beneficial use owns that much water from that source. If there is excess then the next person in time of filing gets some. So on and so forth. In a low water year the latest filers have to shut down to provide water to those with senior rights. That's been the law for over 150 years.
I just watched this again. Second time. I just stumbled onto it. But now I'm going to bookmark it. It's just a nice quiet peaceful video. Music's OK and that country is simply so beautiful. And great attitudes. But you know, Brandon, Lorenzo thinks he's better than you. He thinks he looks like that movie star who worked with that woman who was the star of Pretty Woman. An he's conceited. And there are times when you're doing something, talking smack, that you can tell he's just about to burst out laughing at you. Not sure I'd want to sleep in the same tent with him.
Congrats on the buck....backcountry is not easy! And only thing worse than all the cattle on public is the sheep....they devastate the feed....I dont like either of them!
Careful, check your research on the benefits of "selective" grazing. Remember when deer populations were double in the 60's? That was at the peak of cattle and sheep grazing.
@@runwayfashionexchange3988 Yeah I am sure there is research out there but I only comment on what I see on my 100% public land hunts in Oregon....the biggest problem I see is way too heavy use/numbers of the cattle and especially the sheep in my areas. We are in areas where the wildlife is thick right now but they will only pass thru once the cattle are introduced. And comparing wildlife #s in Oregon to #s in the 60s is not a viable argument....we are at a tipping point.
@@chriscolwell2691 I agree that we need to be careful. Here is a great video about how cattle grazing really helps the land in China. They reclaimed the desert by being "careful" about the way they do it. ruclips.net/video/kp4PikdJhKM/видео.html
@@runwayfashionexchange3988 the cattle are absolute havoc on the public lands where I live. every bit of grass, etc is chewed right to the ground, shit everywhere, and it's almost impossible to put out trailcams. the cows find them and camp out right in front of them, giving you hundreds of cow pics over a few hours. they bed down for the night right in front of my cams, which surely keeps the game that normally would come by away. and, one cow broke off the licking branch that I have set a cam up watching for years now. came in one time, and there was the licking branch laying on the ground, broken off. looked through the pics and found the culprit, a big cow. I absolutely hate cattle on crown land.
The state allows hunters to buy a second deer and elk tag for hunting in general season units if nonresidents don’t buy all the tags allocated to them.

@@GOHUNT appreciate the reply
Glad to see one of us Pasadena boy get lucky nice deer
Amazing video. Loved the no music
Thank you! Sometimes it's best to just keep it simple.
This is exactly why Idaho needs to up their prices on Out of state tags!
Yep
You do know that would decrease interest in hunting. That decreases support for hunting. Better rethink that.
Your real problem is all the immigrants moving in from the left coast. The more you develop your surface area, the more your wildlife will vanish. Developers & the quest for money by any means possible are your true enemy.
@@talisikid1618 your a moron….no rethinking that! I said out of state tags! The resource is for the residents…out of state tags are too cheap! That’s why he had 2!
What rifles are you guys shooting? Optic?
Hey Thomas. Thanks for reaching out and for checking out the video. Brandon and Lorenzo were both shooting Browning X-Bolt rifles in this video and if we remember right, both were 28 Nosler. Optics on the rifle, Brandon shot his buck with a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 which is a super solid riflescope. If you have specific optics questions and want to talk with someone directly on the team, you can always reach out to Cody Nelson at optics@gohunt.com and you can see all the riflescopes we carry in the goHUNT Gear Shop here: shop.gohunt.com/collections/optics/riflescopes
Best of luck this fall!
Sounds like you are dialed! Can't wait to hear how you do this year. Idaho is a great state!
fire video boys. more elk less deer. lol
Palisades are fun to hunt!
Backcountry Sass'n agreed! If I don’t get a tag for 57 then Me and my brother are going to hit up the palisades !
I can’t believe the guy who shot the huge mule deer cut the cape off! 😳
Cool buck.. Lucky dog
Glad you got one , but , long ways for a blacktail sized mhle deer . Peace
Great video! What packs are you guys running ??
They were both using the Mystery Ranch Marshall.

What unit is the first hunt of the video in?
Great looking country. No oaks(native) in Idaho though.
I gotta 5" dropper.... No, just joking bro. On cold days more like a button buck.
5 inch dropper is the new standard 😂
Haha dropper or nothing.
Nice one
OTC FTW!
Killing anything from a half , even a quarter mile away is hunting at its essence.
what is the brand of your tent and stove?
It's a Seek Outside Redcliff. You can check it out here: shop.gohunt.com/collections/seek-outside/products/seek-outside-redcliff
What water filter is that and where can I get one

What part of Idaho? Cause I am looking for an good OTC early archery close to the Oregon border. I am a college student looking for a good Idaho buck.
Great hunt for you guys. Gotta love the damage all the sheep do, not. Really wish the sheep and cattle ranchers would keep their own livestock on their land and leave the public lands for the wildlife.
Evie Uretsky there is a little problem. Most of the good water is privately owned. If the ranchers shut off access to the water everything loses.
@@delbutler885 If this is public land then why are they able to own water which is on public land.
@@delbutler885 All I can say is wow, like I said no one should be entitled to own water especially if it is on Public Land.
What unit were you in?
I just watched this again. Second time. I just stumbled onto it. But now I'm going to bookmark it. It's just a nice quiet peaceful video. Music's OK and that country is simply so beautiful. And great attitudes. But you know, Brandon, Lorenzo thinks he's better than you. He thinks he looks like that movie star who worked with that woman who was the star of Pretty Woman. An he's conceited. And there are times when you're doing something, talking smack, that you can tell he's just about to burst out laughing at you. Not sure I'd want to sleep in the same tent with him.
Holy shit that was his first buck!!!!
What video camera you guys using?
Mainly Sony a7 series cameras.
What tent are they using?
It is a Seek Outside Redcliff. You can check it out here: shop.gohunt.com/collections/seek-outside/products/seek-outside-redcliff
Do what your gut says it is not about horns good video.
How did you get 2 deer and 2 elk tags.
The state allows hunters to buy a second deer and elk tag for hunting in general season units if nonresidents don’t buy all the tags allocated to them.
I love Idaho, so under rated! Oh wait, thats why I live there! Btw.... There is no animals there! Don't hunt it! Lol
