I would love to see this or any other good German bottled beer in the pubs up in Newcastle but it seems to be Madri land at the moment. All of my mates seem to be happy drinking Peroni and Moretti but when you're now paying £5-6 a pint it would be nice to get something a bit more refined. Cheers for the review. I've had the regular Ayinger lager and it's really good.

It's pretty much the same situation across the country. I know of a small number of pubs in the entire city of Notts where I can rely on a decent German made pint but they aren't exactly frequent!

Yes kellerbiers unfiltered unpasteurised lagers are gonna have a lower shelf life sometimes as low as 3 to 6 months because of the yeast suspension, they are best when drunk fresh as possible, and yes you are supposed to aggravate the yeast of the bottle has been sitting to get the yeast and all the flavour in the glass. I've sampled loads of German kellerbiers some notable ones from Goller, Wagner St Georgenbrau etc and had this one from Ayinger a few times it's very drinkable. I've also had Augustiner Weissbier and you are correct in assuming these are great beers with rich food. Keep up the great reviews especially the lagers, I'm going to Munich this week so gonna have a few great beers to enjoy and review myself.🍻

Ooof I am very jealous! Enjoy Munich, be sure to sample as many as possible - for science, of course. Cheers!

Good review as always. 👍 Generally you cant go wrong with an Ayinger. Dont think I've ever had a bad one. You may have missed a trick with leaving that yeast in the bottom of the bottle tho Tom. It would have probably looked as hazy as you were expecting it to be if that went in and would have added a bit of bang to the taste too

I'll be sure to try getting all of that yeasty goodness in there next time! We're all prone to a rookie error from time to time! Cheers!

I'm from Austria and saw this beer on a menu in Vietnam and had to try it because I thought it was a fake German beer with a really bad fake name (the letter Y isn't used that much in German). I just wanted to see how a fake German beer tasted like. Aftery drinking it I was amazed by how well they got the taste right. Only then I googled it and found out that Aying is acutally a real German village only 2 hours away from me and I just had a German I didn't know on the other end of the world.

It is funny when you find local products when you're very far from home! I'm surprised you haven't seen Ayinger before as it's fairly common in the UK (at least, in places known for good European beer). Cheers!
