Over 4300 K of driving down winding narrow roads and through spectacular Scottish history where I could feel the moods of Scotland. Too many distilleries to see in just a few weeks and I was trying to catch a breath of that Scottish highland air. It's no wonder it seemed at times very surreal. We all have a list of the distilleries that we need see. When the list is too long you ask yourself which ones matter the most. While many head to Islay and I do have my favorite Islay whiskies, a trip to Islay would eat up too many days so leave that too the next time.
After 3 days in Edinburgh we headed through the central highlands (6 distilleries) and then the Speyside (too many to list) and made Inverness our home for 3 days. I needed to see the Isle of Skye where we stayed a night and then to Ben Nevis and Oban where we rested. We travelled through an unforgettable coastal and mountainous landscape which could have been many picturesque post cards. Then to a whisky pilgrimage as important to us as Islay, the Kintyre Peninsula and Campbeltown which is the home of Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia as well as two new distilleries planned for the near future. In recent years Springbank has become an enigma because the whisky is so hard to find. The famous Whisky writer and reviewer Ralfy says "Springbank is the first and most important distillery to visit in Scotland" It is not a Mammoth ultra modern distillery like Macallan, in fact it is very old and smaller in size with just 3 stills. But if you want to see how whisky was made over a hundred years ago with full transparency on how they make it complete from the malting floor to the dunnage warehouse, you go to Springbank. So you would think that the most sought after whisky in Scotland would cost a fortune but the distillery does not have exorbitant prices. It is the flippers and secondary market that jacks up the price. The issue is that Springbank does not produce enough whisky for the demand, a problem that a lot of distilleries wish they had. They do not seem to want to change the way they do things and that is 'Old School'. So we have been warned about the risk of doing a tour and not getting a bottle of your favorite Springbank, including the 10 year old. Well let's watch the video of the tour and see if I have horseshoes on my side. Enjoy the video. Slàinte Mhath

Thanks kindly, Cambeltown is going to be seeing a couplenew distilleries being built and that will help it be a destination like Islay. Right now it has 3 distilleries that could be in the top 10 in Scotland. Of course that's my opinion. Slàinte Mhath

Thanks James, I'm a little slow to respond to everyone with the Jet lag and that serendipity that follows.

I like your use of the word magic. There is so much that I am still discovering from the hours of video and 4 people cataloging the trip with photos.

Great work Noel! Almost like being there. Wow what a tease waiting 2 hours to pick 2 bottles.
Curious your thoughts on their new make?
    Cheers 🥃

I was expecting the taste of ethanol but it was fruity sweet. It wasn't prickly or it didn't have any bite but left an oily coating on my mouth.

I have several Palo Cortado finished whiskies and that one packs a lot of smack. You don't notice the youth in the whisky. Slàinte Mhath
