TSS spicy, It’s a horrible religion, don’t join it. Actually scratch that, it’s a cult. They cut you off from “the tainted society” because it will “corrupt you.” At that, just watch from 5:23 to 7:00.
I don't really think so. I sense there's a level of narcissism from his sophistication, which actually I believe is shown to its ultimate extent in these videos. Personally, I believe he is a hoarder who fabricates his 'genius' from other sources, not a genius who creates. But that is my view.
Mh, never really saw him as a narcissist. Interesting point but could you explain your view? As to the "hoarder who fabricates his 'genius' from other sources", I feel like this is a common trait among people who just want to know how exactly the world works. He researches and publishes collected data in an entertaining package, which I believe to be a good RUclips video. There is no genius here, just good vocabulary and organized thoughts that come from reliable sources. Just curious on the narcissist part of your statement.
Around The World Yeah, he really is *only* taking information and publish it, but he makes it entertaining and he knows what he is talking about (not Buzzfeed). You could call him smart (varies from definition). He is also aware what people are thinking about him and prois of himself. You can misunderstand it as a little bit of narcissism.
AwesomeWill Dude no one has ever "created" anything it doesn't make sense, it has always been clever synthesis and deductions from things that we knew already.
while always watching the video and scrolling down the comments section.. why do I always find the exact comment that describes the exact timestamp of the video...
I was supposed to go to the gym today and I didn't want to because my legs are a little stiff. I'm stopping this video halfway through and packing my gym bag now. Thanks!
I’m not even close to lying when I said I’d love to meet and talk to Dave more than almost any other person. His rationale and methodical thoughts are fascinating in itself, but the fact that it comes from a place of true curiosity. Whether if about himself or others he’s able to think about things in a rationale way without being from a lack of emotion or emotional consciousness. I find it absolutely fascinating to watch! Incase you read this Dave, I really admire you. I admire your purpose when it comes to videos and your true curiosity of the way the mind works in your own and others lives. Any one of your videos I enjoy, regardless of topic because it’s your process and thoughts I usually find the most intriguing, not to discredit the work and results you find.
just found the video, since i lost my job due to corona i have not gotten anything done at all in 3 months. i just made a commitment contract with my welfare money on the line (a smaller amount, each failure would cost me roughly 20% of the months income). thanks to our country allowing you to have 60-80% of your income for 300 days when you get fired i've done nothing but procrastinate then feel bad about doing nothing. the 300 day thing is an amazing safety net, but it's not something that is good for me at least due to becoming "too comfortable" too easily. we shall see how this goes, all i'm getting if i fail completely is food from mom so that i don't starve to death ^^
Y’know, my favourite part of that test was one kid was licking the marshmallow. LICKING. Those are the kids who are going to have a better future than the kids who waited 15 minutes
There was a similar test performed with ravens. The raven could have one treat now, or wait and have the key to something that has two treats. One of the ravens had to be excluded because it figured out a way to take the the initial treat and then open the thing with two treats without the key. Ravens are amazing.
Wow! I could *_see_* the difference on your face! Your skin was clearer and brighter, you looked more radiant. I haven't been following you for long, this video was from 3 years ago, and I know you just posted a couple videos recently after a long absence, I think. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I hope you are still doing as well or better than you were in August of 2016! You are so very sweet David, wishing you all the best! - Mary :)
I think I have some good advice for anyone trying to find that motivation to get to work AND love their work. Think about WHY you enjoyed doing the things you used to enjoy doing. Example: if you used to love playing video games but now hate them, try to think of WHY exactly you loved them. Was it competition? Was it graphic arts? Was it the virtual adventures? There's a hundred different possible reasons as to why a person will pursue a certain interest, you need to find your specific reason for doing so. Figuring this out will tell you what your core values are. All employers for big jobs will try to see if you match their company's values and if you don't you won't be hired, so don't tell me that values and passions don't exist because I've experienced them myself. Be full of yourself, be obsessed with your egotistical values, DON'T be arrogant, but be in love with yourself while respecting others.
When I doubted myself and lost track of what I valued, I took on the values of other people; I became humble because everyone around me told me to be. I focused on money, attention, and sex because everyone else valued those things, and then one day I developed major depressive disorder. That's not the only reason I became clinically depressed, but it was a HUGE contributing factor. Don't be restricted by societies rules or morals, what do you really want?
I'm still wondering why this guy isn't a scientist. Edit: wow, i completely forgot about this comment. I don't remember why I wrote this comment but I can assure you it wasn't written seriously or with any intent to offend anyone, in case any of you are wondering
so i have adhd and i deal with much of what this guy deals with, maybe he has adhd too idk, but basically, when it's that hard to make yourself do things you actually want to do, forcing yourself through school (something you don't want to do) to become a scientist seems pretty impossible, im still going for it but it is a struggle
I'm going to try this threat bet. I may be utterly poor but I think I'll put up my $2500 pc which I spent over a year saving for on the line. It's about time I seriously tried dealing with my alcoholism, depression, and other mental illnesses rather than drinking like a fish and lying about it to everyone I know. I'm really not looking forward to explaining this to my family......been lying to them the longest. And in the end, I think it's time I stop acting. After all, I've already lost 22 yrs of opportunities can't lose anymore. Thanks for the idea Dave and hope you have a good one. Goodnight everybody, got a long day ahead of me.
There is one little problem. You still have control over your consequences. When you fail your plan, you still can say "Meh whatever. I changed my mind and I keep my money". Boyinaband has no control over his consequences, becaus his sister "has" his money. If he failed his plan, then his Sister could easily donate the money to scientology and Boyinaband couldn't do anything about it. You understand? Sorry my english isn't the best :/
Starboy1407 Actually I don't, I signed a contract with my dad so that he gets the computer if I fail. And trust me when I say my dad will sell it immediately if I do. He's the type that believes in keeping your word and he always does. So if I fail I lose my computer, my games, and my chance to work on RUclips videos.
Thank you so much. I've been trying to become happier and just all around less depressed for so long and mother has worked. I'm a writer, and I guess I like you so much because of how similar we are. I've been writing since I was twelve years old, and I haven't stopped. I'm nineteen now, and I lost all of my motivation and inspiration when I was eighteen. I'm planning now on starting this, and I really do hope it will help. Thanks, Dave.
I'm actually starting to learn how to become a writer, i'm gonna use this commitment contract so I can start actually writing instead of laying around.
I have a way to help you feel more confident: Step 1- sit for 5 to 10 minuets every day and just turn off your brain Step 2- write down 3 things you like about yourself that has nothing to do with your looks Step 3- when you think negatively about yourself, think, “ would I say that to my best friend? Would I say that to my family?” Step 4- do this everyday for at least a month if you have time, and if it doesn’t work, you can stop. If it works, I think it’s a good way to stay positive
I don't agree with step 3. From personal experience, when the school counsellor told me to ask myself that question, I just looked at her and said "I don't know". If you knew the way out of your problem, you would be done it by now, and adding the caring inventive most people have to help a friend or family member doesn't always work. Also, it's puts a focus on helping and caring about others more than helping yourself, when You're the focus of the conversation. For example, you go to someone for advice on your issue with procrastinating on homework/work. They say "well, what advice would you give a friend?". The expected reply is "I'd tell them to do it when they have free time". Procrastinators don't have "free time". The concept doesn't exist in their mind. They have work time... which trails off into procrastinating, and stress out time. So the real answer is "I dont know how to help them". Because it's not their friend's problem. It's theirs. I do like your first 2 steps, however, keeping a consistent daily ritual of meditating and pointing out a few things that you like about yourself can eventually either feel too forced or you'll fall off the bandwagon and stop this daily ritual. Self compassionate discipline and habit reformation (changing bad habits into good ones), which is my current experiment, may help some. A commitment contract may help others. It depends on the structure of the person's deep psychology; how a person was raised and treated as a baby and child determining their adult behaviour.
I need a commitment contract, because my brain refuses to do anything that requires effort, unless someone with power over me is watching. For example I can't force myself to do math homework unless it's easy or the teacher is in the same room as me. Same thing goes for multiple other school subjects. But there's a problem in the commitment contract and it's that I don't know anyone who I could ask to be my "teacher" because I'm not intimidated by my friends.
Hey! It sounds like something I have.. I was diagnosed with ADHD 12 years ago.. Do you feel like your interests change regularly, you get personality shifts and you have a strong impulsive trait?
Pushing through the start of an uncomfortable situation is a learned skill. Of course some people are more naturally gifted and some with ADHD will really really struggle. Improvement is always seen with practice. A useful trick is to set an alarm on your phone telling you to do something. And no matter what you are doing break your routine to do that thing. It's a great way to practice this productive mentality without the associated pressure.
He makes my heart warm and fuzzy. Also if I missed a day in my video schedule I revoked my favorite snack. I haven't missed my schedule unless it was for a good reason.
How can I be consistent for my channel, when I don't really know what I want my channel to be? I have so many different things uploaded, Music videos, the start of a playthrough, two costplay make up tutorials, and cosplay music videos
"Just don't" is a shitty solution. To everything. If you actually had anything you were trying to break out of, you wouldn't be talking out of your ass. Nicotine addiction, and trust me. "just don't" makes me want to hurt people.
Congratulations, David! I am proud of you, my red-streaked brother! Just be mindful of the Church of Scientology trying to make you lie in bed and watch Jeremy Kyle while eating cereal so they can get your 10 Gs ;)
I did a similar contract a few years back when I was doing really bad @ the univ, I failed really fast and almost dropped out. In the end I finished the studies not for myself but out of fear that I will be laughed at for dropping out. Got masters degree the same way. After two years of work I left the job and am jobless for 6 months already. Knowing that this type of contract isn't cutting it for me, my saved up money are running out so I guess I'll be getting some other job soon to keep my apartment bills paid, but I'd like to have a different kind of motivation >_> Am genuinely happy for those who made this contract work though, don't stop the roll!
Why'd you leave your job? Why don't you look for another job related to your area of expertise i.e what you mastered in? Im currently on my way, I feel, to a life like yours. As a sophomore, my only motivation to work for my bachelors is the fear of being a failure
Javaisgood Javaisgood, my job wasn't related to my degree, I just took what I could back then even though I ended up hating it because I had a really hard financial situation since it just so happened that everyone lost their jobs in my family. I'm currently looking for a job in my field, but it's not as easy as it would've been earlier, people of my age usually already have experience in the field. Living in a poor country like Moldova doesn't help either, average salary here is only around 300$/mo, heh. Sorry for all the whining, hope it didn't scare you off :D
A few years ago I thought this was a really brilliant idea, but now that I'm 3 years older and a bit more knowledgeable, I recognize that this experiment would never work on it's own. If you've got a pattern, habit and history of depression and despondency- following through the schedule you've made here might appear to help for a little while, but it'll never stick. There's a blend of psychology and neurology at play... like.. you build up neural pathways that get stronger, say more lubricated over time. The process of changing those patterns is a matter of rewiring your brain through psychotherapy. It's fuckin' complicated man, but very doable and definitely possible. Mostly it's important to have patience and compassion for yourself as the road to changes like these is long and slow- being upset with yourself for still dealing with whatever issues you've got (I don't really know how this all plays out for you) isn't helpful, remember that you're doing your best, even when your best is just barely remembering why you want to change your coping mechanisms.
+LeCheckmate that's the thing about cars and computers people always act like their tough or complete assholes until their confronted in person.i know for a fact you do not have the courage to act this way in person. Calling someone a cunt for no good reason………not cool
Hey Boyinaband, I just discovered your channel and this journey of growth you've started/been working on and I'm blown away. I've been struggling to articulate my issues with motivation for an insanely long time and had no idea how to describe it or work on it. I tended to hate myself and blame myself for my lack of productivity and just call it laziness when I knew deep down there was more to it than that. I'm going to try some of the things you've suggested here. I'm so happy to find other people who've had similar experiences. Thank you so much for sharing this with your viewers.
HopeEternity17 I always thought I was lazy but turns out I’m autistic and a perfectionist so I have poor executive functioning and also an irrational avoidance of failing aka doing anything.
This video gave me the push I needed to actually commit to improving my daily life and actions. It's a very inspiring video. Thank you for sharing your process
basically, the way a human brain finds happiness is by solving problems. when i was rly depressed in uni, i tried helping people by solving their problems or at least listening to them, being there as a support. it turned out to be pretty good for a while, but then it wasn't enough. what helped me mostly is trying to solve my problems, the things i've been ignoring for years. it was the only thing that worked. i wasn't being productive during that period because i was trying to find out the reasons beyond my depression. i started by remembering my up-bringing and my life. i know now where my anxiety comes from. i know why i feel like a big failure. it was just then, that i could chill and find myself strong again.
This is genuinely one of the best videos I've seen. No exaggerations,no dishonesty, just a guy talking about his experiences trying to reclaim control over his mental health in a thought provoking manor.I love it.
I actually thought this video was brilliant. A really cool idea, though difficult to implement. I can totally relate to this issue: the struggle to be motivated, to be productive, to stick to the plans and schedules. I wonder if there's some way to make some software or an app to monitor, gauge and encourage this kind of system. I know there are "life planner" software/apps, but I mean something different, something that can be posted online for others to see, or for an AI to check to make sure that the user is actually following the schedule. Otherwise it's just another glorified calendar that will be inevitably ignored.
+Timooo: Sounds great man, hit me up if you ever make it, I'd love to try it. I might have a go at it myself. I've never made an app, but I have web coding skillz, I could perhaps make an online web-based version.
wait: 7:15 yes that's what i'm talking about! Isn't this just the same problem with a different mask? when I have a boring task to do for something bigger, I look to the end goal and think of the great things I'm acheiving by doing this one boring thing :)
Idubbbz brought me to your channel but honestly didn't expect this kind of content, I've been binge watching all your videos and this one really resonated with me to the extent I think I'm going to try this myself. You've earned yourself a subscribed from me, thanks for all your amazing videos.
Because of you, I tried this out myself, and It worked, just like you said! I would also like to say that you're a big inspiration to me, whether it be timeline planning, expressing my love for art ( drawing and music ) or just anything else! Thank you. Have a good day!
I think it is a great idea, good luck :) You are totally capable of this, anyone is. I recommend your goal of productivity be with doing things that you are passionate about every day, like your hobbies, or if you like writing for example, make sure to study literature and write every day, etc. :)
Good grief, I needed this video. Cheers to you, man! As I sat there and listened to you talk about how you had been feeling for the last year, and all of the things you wanted to change but never could, it was like I was listening to myself from 2006 until now... yes... 10 years... I think it might just be time for me to get myself a commitment contract. Googling now. Thank you!
It's an understatement to say that depression is really rough. Glad to see that you've found a way to strike a work-life balance and recover some happiness in your life.
My dads a Scientologist and I'm obviously so glad that I could stay away from it and that I no longer see him anymore, I've seen what Scientology can do to a family first hand so I can completely understand this experiment, it's an extreme consequence and I think this is an interesting idea.
Baseless reddit accusation that ruined this guy's reputation aside, I hope Dave is doing well. I'm stuck in this same kind of depression-anxiety hole and have been for a very long time now, so I hope he managed to escape it and is doing okay.
So I really came upon this by chance but I am so glad I did. Over the past several months I have struggled with depression over feeling like a poser due to my terrible procrastination. When the pressure is on I can get amazing things done but I have suffered for a long time with this same sense of inconsistency, even with things I love doing. I struggle to get work done if the deadline is fuzzy, I waste a lot of my precious time doing nothing important. This has been awful and lately it has really made me crash emotionally. I think this may be a great idea to help me. I need some motivation and a reason to work, and I know I need help. Maybe this commitment contract can help me out of this slump too!
I feel like you would look good with a pony tail tho, it'd still be flowing, just not all over your face. for me hair tie helps productivity because I don't have to spend time making sure it's not in my face
This honestly made me want to do something for myself, Dave. Like, now seeing that it isn't impossible and it could possibly help it gives me more inspiration to actually try it. Thank you for sharing it with us! :D
love it, I have many of the same issues, what with depression, ADD, and PTSD to throw in the mix. I have only started REALLY watching your videos for the past week (ever since i started producing) to get tips and each one has given me ideas, insight, inspiration or tools that I could use to better myself, my productivity and/or my music. Thank you very much and i will try some of the same things to go for a better, happier life
Hej Dave, as someone with Complex-PTSD symptoms that make it difficult for me to be productive, I commend you and give you a lot of credit for caring about yourself enough to put all of that effort and time into fixing your depression. Kudos to you mate! *applause*
Literally has been used to express non literal things for hundreds of years. it's not wrong. it's just grammatically confusing. It is literally the worst thing in the world when people fail to recognise that exaggeration is a tool of language. Sometimes the sender could have conveyed a message better but sometimes the receiver should have recognised emphasis or metaphor. Language is descriptive not prescriptive. Sometimes literally means figuratively. Have a nice day.
Wow man, really glad you are back. At first I thought this was gonna be some shitty social experiment video but it was actually really good. Keep it up! Also, for people who need that extra encouragement but don't have 10k to donate to Scientology, I suggest Habitica. I am using it to keep my youtube channel on track.
***** The risk of losing health (no matter how little) and resetting your streaks is a pretty good incentive to do what you need to do. My longest current streak is 422 days, and there's no way I'm willing to break that by skipping my morning meds!
I'll see things like this and at first it makes me feel motivated and inspired to try it, but then my doubt sets in. I'll point things out like how I don't have the resources currently or I'll push it off further (seeing as I'm still in high school it's usually into adulthood). I can't tell if it's me procrastinating again or me just finding something that won't work. Maybe both?
I feel the same. I thought about how wonderful it would be if I managed to do this and stick to a routine and get things done, but I'm in high school, I don't have anything to lose and I don't have anyone willing to keep me in check. I'm starting to worry about my future and how I'm going to study for our upcoming exams etc.
MsButev I think because I really don't have the materials or time to do this, I won't. However, I think maybe we if we modify the experiment a little we could do it. Like maybe try positive reinforcement. I know it didn't work for David, but if it works try it. Some sort of treat system? Maybe get a friend or family member to check it or if you don't think you can depend on one person try multiple.
Cha Cha Boedigheimer That's a good idea. I might try it but I'm not sure it will work as well as if I had a risk of losing something. I don't have enough to lose for this to work is the problem. I'll definitely give your version a go, though :)
Thank you so much for sharing this even tho it's been 5 years this video is really helpful for me right now and I finally think that I found a way to make myself feel okay I hope that you're doing well and remember that we all love you❤️
Where do I get 10.000 quid from to potentially donate to Scientology so that I can try the same? But seriously, very impressive. As someone who is also prone to depression I can relate to this. What helps me best is to get distracted by learning about things. Anything. Als long as I can keep focussing on it it'll do great. Hope you're well.
Feeling more relaxed than happy. Yeah that's about right. As a depressed person, i can say that i see happiness and unhappiness as a number line, with positive 1-10 as happy and negative 1-10 as unhappy. As long as I'm not in negatives, i consider myself to be in a happy state even when I'm not thrilled and giggly and smiling all the time as that's not reasonable to maintain. A generally positive mood is the "happy" that depressed people seek. Anything to stay out of the constant 4-10 negative numbers. And i think that view of happiness is a good one to have for everyone. "I'm not smiling enough i should be happier" is just as toxic a mindset as "I'm worthless i should give up". When you see neutral (-3 through +3 on the number line) as bad, then all you're doing is making more negatives for yourself. instead of 10 positive numbers there's now 7 that you feel are worth anything. If people can accept contentment as a form of happiness then the world would be a more positive place. :3
With quarantine keeping me trapped in my house, my already struggling academic motivation is pretty much dead in the water. I've decided to try this to get back to where I need to be (first semester was almost straight A's, second dropped to near F's before quarantine, due to motivation and mental health issues). If you see this, I wanted to thank you for creating such an in detail document and explanation to follow. 💞💞
I don't know if it's just me but I don't like the idea with the donations at all. Like, I know the point is to "scare" you cause you don't want to do it. But do you really want to support people like this just cause you fail in something? Just imagine the Westboro church would start a campaign with this money, they are going to be able to discriminate and hurt people cause you donated money. I don't think it's worth it
He had to find something that really worked. I get the idea that stuff like "self humiliation" Or "just throwing the money into a pit" or anything that would actually only hurt him wouldn't be a good enough motivator. He seems to care more about being a positive effect more than being seen as impressive, dig. Not only that he doesn't seem to care about negative influences that are more superficial but rather real practical negative effects. The motivation HAS to reflect that. So the fix is really just.... succeed. Practice makes permanent. After the first few weeks it shouldn't be too big a deal.
I just realized that dave actually got way better. his uploads are consistent and he seems to have a good work ethic and ya know... not wanna die. Brings me back to when i struggled with bipolar depression back in 2016-2017 and it's cool to see a lot of us have made big strides for ourselves.
Play the game The Begginers Guide on Steam, its an exceptionally well done explanation of this through a narrator's voice and walking through his past. (Same guy who made Stanley parable)
How long will the threat of losing the money hang over you? It's good that your body and mind will now have a routine, but when does the "contract expire"?
I was thinking the same thing. If the contract expires, (I don't know about him, but) I would slip back into my old un-productive habits. But you can't have $10,000 to scientology looming over your head forever. I used to be able to be productive but after going to my arts highschool/boarding school, It's hard over summer break. My school is very structured and longer than a normal school day since it includes music classes, and this means it effects my "making things" too. I no longer have a focus on my music from the classes or motivation to practice from a concert deadline. Now I've spent most of my summer playing video games and scrolling down various social media and seriously beating my self up over it to the point I numb my own hate out and continually don't do anything. I'm not really sure if I could make a commitment contract like him, but I'm going to use this site blocker to block social media and sites that distract me until I'm done with my daily goals, I also might try using the RescueTime app he has.
The problem is that depressed people view happiness so much farther away than it is. Daily routines as simple as this can bring a scuicidal person out of depression. I was suicidal for a year and, even though my life is worse now, doing shrooms saved me
I feel like this would be a good TED talk.
He should totally do a ted talk!
Yeah
Absolutely!

"You have 10 GRAND?!" is the most realistic reaction i heard in this video.
@Luís Andrade that doesn’t get rid of the fact that 10 grand is still a hella big amount of money, but i see where you’re coming from. :)
To the people who want to try it but don't want to use money, an alternative can be taking incredibly embarassing photos and getting someone you trust to send them to your friends/parents/the internet if you don't stick to it.

I don't really think so. I sense there's a level of narcissism from his sophistication, which actually I believe is shown to its ultimate extent in these videos. Personally, I believe he is a hoarder who fabricates his 'genius' from other sources, not a genius who creates. But that is my view.
Antonz "how many THINGS I've made" mhmmmmmmm

Incase you read this Dave,
I really admire you. I admire your purpose when it comes to videos and your true curiosity of the way the mind works in your own and others lives. Any one of your videos I enjoy, regardless of topic because it’s your process and thoughts I usually find the most intriguing, not to discredit the work and results you find.

They’re going to be lawyers lol
There was a similar test performed with ravens. The raven could have one treat now, or wait and have the key to something that has two treats. One of the ravens had to be excluded because it figured out a way to take the the initial treat and then open the thing with two treats without the key. Ravens are amazing.

Tbh the answer from that could be received from the video: he lacked motivation
so i have adhd and i deal with much of what this guy deals with, maybe he has adhd too idk, but basically, when it's that hard to make yourself do things you actually want to do, forcing yourself through school (something you don't want to do) to become a scientist seems pretty impossible, im still going for it but it is a struggle
Andrea L fair enough, either way, Dave is definitely well educated (I think mainly self)
If you do science, then you're a scientist. I would classify them as such. :)

Well... You could know most stuff in your class, but the ones who know how to research better than you will be on top.
Good luck!
George Glez Thanks!
Alright then good luck buddy :)
YOU INSPIRATIONAL HUMAN BEING YOU!
*Nothing.
How did 'nothing' turn into mother...? What the hell.
+Kaya Demaria lol
That confused me a bit xD
I'm a writer too! I've been writing stories since I knew how, haha. But I haven't had the motivation lately :c
I'm actually starting to learn how to become a writer, i'm gonna use this commitment contract so I can start actually writing instead of laying around.
I have a way to help you feel more confident:
Step 1- sit for 5 to 10 minuets every day and just turn off your brain
Step 2- write down 3 things you like about yourself that has nothing to do with your looks
Step 3- when you think negatively about yourself, think, “ would I say that to my best friend? Would I say that to my family?”
Step 4- do this everyday for at least a month if you have time, and if it doesn’t work, you can stop. If it works, I think it’s a good way to stay positive
How do u turn off ur brain
"tune in next time! no i'll tell you now..." xD
I fucking loved that
I need a commitment contract, because my brain refuses to do anything that requires effort, unless someone with power over me is watching.
Even if it’s easy or the teacher is in the same room, I still wouldn’t do it.
So it wouldn’t make me do it unless I lose something good
Hey! It sounds like something I have.. I was diagnosed with ADHD 12 years ago.. Do you feel like your interests change regularly, you get personality shifts and you have a strong impulsive trait?
@@rolandcucicea6006 today I learned I have adhd and to the OP maybe having your parent might help

Almost a year on, you've been uploading very high quality, regular videos, so I'd be interested to know if the £10,000 is still what's motivating you.
Knowing that this type of contract isn't cutting it for me, my saved up money are running out so I guess I'll be getting some other job soon to keep my apartment bills paid, but I'd like to have a different kind of motivation >_>
Am genuinely happy for those who made this contract work though, don't stop the roll!
Sorry for all the whining, hope it didn't scare you off :D
senaya You've peaked my interest, what's your area of expertise?
Mostly it's important to have patience and compassion for yourself as the road to changes like these is long and slow- being upset with yourself for still dealing with whatever issues you've got (I don't really know how this all plays out for you) isn't helpful, remember that you're doing your best, even when your best is just barely remembering why you want to change your coping mechanisms.
you're a beautiful wounderful person I'm sure you can do it

Hey Boyinaband,
I just discovered your channel and this journey of growth you've started/been working on and I'm blown away. I've been struggling to articulate my issues with motivation for an insanely long time and had no idea how to describe it or work on it. basically, the way a human brain finds happiness is by solving problems. when i was rly depressed in uni, i tried helping people by solving their problems or at least listening to them, being there as a support. it turned out to be pretty good for a while, but then it wasn't enough. what helped me mostly is trying to solve my problems, the things i've been ignoring for years. it was the only thing that worked. i wasn't being productive during that period because i was trying to find out the reasons beyond my depression. i started by remembering my up-bringing and my life. i know now where my anxiety comes from. i know why i feel like a big failure. it was just then, that i could chill and find myself strong again.
That would be brilliant!
+D Sanchez Yep, it would
That is a really really cool idea. If you don't mind, I'll put it on my list of ideas of webapps I should make someday.
+Timooo: Sounds great man, hit me up if you ever make it, I'd love to try it.

wait: 7:15 yes that's what i'm talking about! Isn't this just the same problem with a different mask? when I have a boring task to do for something bigger, I look to the end goal and think of the great things I'm acheiving by doing this one boring thing :)

TED talk right here.
Actually better than TED talk.
Maybe this commitment contract can help me out of this slump too!

... /:
Literally has been used to express non literal things for hundreds of years. it's not wrong. it's just grammatically confusing. It is literally the worst thing in the world when people fail to recognise that exaggeration is a tool of language. Sometimes the sender could have conveyed a message better but sometimes the receiver should have recognised emphasis or metaphor. Language is descriptive not prescriptive. Sometimes literally means figuratively. Have a nice day.

***** The risk of losing health (no matter how little) and resetting your streaks is a pretty good incentive to do what you need to do. My longest current streak is 422 days, and there's no way I'm willing to break that by skipping my morning meds!

This might be the most sly channel plug I've ever seen! 😁
For anyone interested in what software Dave was using to manage his time. It's a software called Rescue Time.

I have no words to begin to explain how much is this helping me.
My life is really miserable, getting worse year after year...
kick it!
MsButev Good luck and I hope you succeed.
Cha Cha Boedigheimer Thank you! I hope you do too :)
"No pain? No gain!"
Loss Aversion: Well yes but actually no
You sir, are amazing. Very inspiring. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for sharing this even tho it's been 5 years this video is really helpful for me right now and I finally think that I found a way to make myself feel okay
I hope that you're doing well and remember that we all love you❤️

Where do I get 10.000 quid from to potentially donate to Scientology so that I can try the same?
But seriously, very impressive. As someone who is also prone to depression I can relate to this. What helps me best is to get distracted by learning about things. Anything. Als long as I can keep focussing on it it'll do great.
Hope you're well.
Hugh Jazz maybe don't donate money, shave your head if you fail.
A commitment contract...I need to discuss this with my therapist.

THAT ladies and gentlemen is quality content.
I wish I could do that.

An even worse place than Scientology would've been the Westboro baptist church
Although now that you've explained the Scientology people they sound far far worse
I don't think it's worth it
PETA
Or Jehovahs witnesses . I grew up in that cult
Yes please! I would love Dave's take on the game, his mind is beautiful and that game is really deep. I would love his interpretations.
Absolutely! Well said.
This is incredibly inspiring
+RetroAlto once your into a routine for a year it's more difficult to shake of then you'd think
The problem is that depressed people view happiness so much farther away than it is. Daily routines as simple as this can bring a scuicidal person out of depression. I was suicidal for a year and, even though my life is worse now, doing shrooms saved me
