Most ad campaigns have a max spend per word, and even max click per view as well (meaning that if there area to many views but no one is buying, they will automatically stop the ad). Also, they usually only count unique clicks, sp one person (ip address) can't click the ad 1000 times and cost the business 50k.

Ey Dave, the company I work for pays for Zoom conferencing. As I understand it, by paying for an enterprise license we can set up a system where all conference calls made on the company's network are recorded, encrypted, and kept on site for security purposes. Along with that, we also get direct support from Zoom if something were to go wrong.
I would also asume that when companies handle larger amount of money or sensible data, they want a certain Level of security that free services do not offer. Same goes for government officials and consultants
And it’s not just one or two companies that work this way - there are all kinds of large companies/corporations all over the world that pay for conference call and messaging software for the reasons given above. Plus, if there are international branches, they might not have to pay as much for international calls/messages.

500 Euro is very expensive for German universities. That's how much you'd have to pay for a second time at Uni or if you exceed something like 8 semesters for a bachelor degree, i.e. long-term students. Apart from those, the cost is usually around 200-300 Euros, depending on whether public transport is included, since that's usually the largest part of the cost. Something around 90 Euros or so for Halle for example.. It used to be around 100-150 before the public transport was integrated and you had to spend another 100 Euros for the semester ticket, which only covered Halle Now that it's shared by everyone, you get the ticket included for cheaper as well as covering a much larger area, you can now go to Leipzig for free for example. None of these regular semester fees go to the University itself either. They go to student government etc. Tuition only exists in the ~500 Euro for long term students.
The thing with those communication tool are that all the data you produce is stored locally either in your company or your IT service provider so a higher security. Also you have a lot of setting on most of those tools like forwarding real phone call to your skype, teams etc. so you don't need real hardware for it. ^^

On conference calls being expensive: usually in a company setting you cannot use any software you want unless it's approved/bought by IT. If you want to have a conf call within the company you can use a pre-installed software like Skype Business, but sometimes the internet connection in the country you're trying to have a call with (some Asian and African countries have worse internet connections) is really bad, so it's better to have a phone call. Also since you cannot use any software you want, conf calls on e.g. Skype Business with partners outside of your company are absolutely impossible. One time I was working on a project with a client and we needed to set up a call with people from several other countries. The IT guy told me that I should get permission for that from a senior staff member since a 60 minutes international conf call can cost you more than you would think - like up to a 1000 dollars - so it needs to be budgeted in the project you're doing. It's also annoying since it could be free, was it possible to use a free software like Discord. But I guess that would have privacy issues etc. Still - I'm not sure why the heck it's so expensive.
My mom works for the UN, they have regular international conference calls with hundreds of people in them. They used to use skype but often it is unprofessional. I know they switched from it a while back because it had a limit to the amount of people allowed in a call. Discord has a very complicated layout for beginners and its interface is optimized for gaming/ casual use. All the emotes you spoke of add to its unprofessionality.

To add more, you can have more than 100 people joined the call, mute all microphones, kick anyone from the meeting, present in high quality, troubleshoot the issues, securely hold connections, no random firewall ports, connect via phone line as well as all devices, record the calls, so many advantages, but the pricing for large companies if I remember correctly start at 0,5M € per year, depending on requirements and how often the big calls are required.

Answer to conference call cost: When you get into corporate levels of business, and with the world converting to wireless communications; it is imperative to secure your network even with a conference call. That probably takes extra security since phone calls are still a part of old and easier to exploit phone line. You can't have realtime interaction AND encrypt sound on a conference call. I imagine that makes it way more difficult to secure against corperate espionage

It's because of 1. licensing, discord specifies it is not for business use. 2. Support, you have none. If discord is broken for a couple hours or days you can't sue them for sucking. 3. Lawyers get involved and make sure they make plenty of money. See also, points 1 & 2.

Sadly Dave, it is NOT data recovery. It's addiction recovery. Because there is SOOOO MUCH money in selling humans to drug rehabs. Yeah, having the communication software running on your own in-house servers is hugely beneficial for bigger companies.
As a government employee, I can confirm we use it for security and stability.

On conference calls being expensive: usually in a company setting you cannot use any software you want unless it's approved/bought by IT. If you want to have a conf call within the company you can use a pre-installed software like Skype Business, but sometimes the internet connection in the country you're trying to have a call with (some Asian and African countries have worse internet connections) is really bad, so it's better to have a phone call. Also since you cannot use any software you want, conf calls on e.g. Skype Business with partners outside of your company are absolutely impossible. One time I was working on a project with a client and we needed to set up a call with people from several other countries. The IT guy told me that I should get permission for that from a senior staff member since a 60 minutes international conf call can cost you more than you would think - like up to a 1000 dollars - so it needs to be budgeted in the project you're doing. It's also annoying since it could be free, was it possible to use a free software like Discord. But I guess that would have privacy issues etc. Still - I'm not sure why the heck it's so expensive.

My mom works for the UN, they have regular international conference calls with hundreds of people in them. They used to use skype but often it is unprofessional. I know they switched from it a while back because it had a limit to the amount of people allowed in a call. Discord has a very complicated layout for beginners and its interface is optimized for gaming/ casual use. All the emotes you spoke of add to its unprofessionality.

To add more, you can have more than 100 people joined the call, mute all microphones, kick anyone from the meeting, present in high quality, troubleshoot the issues, securely hold connections, no random firewall ports, connect via phone line as well as all devices, record the calls, so many advantages, but the pricing for large companies if I remember correctly start at 0,5M € per year, depending on requirements and how often the big calls are required.
Discord also makes voices really robo if too many people talk at once

Answer to conference call cost:
When you get into corporate levels of business, and with the world converting to wireless communications; it is imperative to secure your network even with a conference call. That probably takes extra security since phone calls are still a part of old and easier to exploit phone line. You can't have realtime interaction AND encrypt sound on a conference call. I imagine that makes it way more difficult to secure against corperate espionage

Businesses don't use Discord because it's not a secure network. Or, at least, they aren't marketed that way.

Sadly Dave, it is NOT data recovery. It's addiction recovery. Because there is SOOOO MUCH money in selling humans to drug rehabs. It's a massive problem in the US because insurance companies often cover rehab costs of $30k+ a month entirely so addicts are given bad treatment on purpose or in the worst cases encouraged to use after their insurance runs out and they leave treatment so that they can tell the insurance they relapsed and cycle them back through rehabs again.
