    Fascinating to see that some old clunkers are not beyond saving (as long as you have knowledge, experience, creativity, persistence, stubbornness, the right tools and a well-equipped workshop !). What one hears is that current Range Rover engineering and manufacturing will never again produce a car that be brought to life after 40 years of hard driving and neglect. A really excellent channel. Well done all involved.

    I used to replace lots of brake pipes on cars when i worked at National Tyres and autocare. My most memorable has to be a vw golf "C" registered. The entire system needed new brake pipes mainly because of the same thing where the pipes join. I did one at a time and kept it connected to an old Lucas brake bleeder machine which i had to disconnect in between. Took a while so luckily he left it with us while he went on holiday.
    The car is still on the road to this day. This brought back that memory.
    Great show Edd thank you.

      One big difference here is what is acceptable to drive on the road in one place vs another. In Europe you need an MOT, and insurance to drive. In many parts of the world, if you put fuel in it and it goes forward then its good to go. Derek from VGG would have got this beast running with a boat fuel tank, changed the oil and the trans fluid and as the front 2nd brake circuit sort of works, driven 1000 miles home. If he had temporary insurance (which he normaly does) he would be good to go and it would be perfectly acceptable!.

      @Lonnie_Johnson 3 года назад +4

      You're absolutely right! Felt that way sinds the beginning. I remember Edd with dark hair and reparing a Ford capri and the Porsche 924. There is something to be said about ''used car salesman'' and ''integrity''. The first chance Mike got he ran of with American producers with cheesy commercial ideas that ruined a good car program. Just like that producer who fired Jeremy from Top Gear. I hate this day and age but God am I thankful that Edd is on his own now! He was genuinely the only interesting factor in that program.

      I have made new copper brake pipes, it is easy to do with a hand flanging tool, takes five minutes longer, but not hard. You don't have to be so fussy when running it along the car, as long as it is secured to the body (you can get plastic clips) and it is not hampering or rubbing against anything. Did all the brake pipes on my old car and it sailed through the MOT. It felt a bit spongy after bleeding, but a few hefty pushes on the peddle shifted the bubble of air and it worked its way to where it could be expelled. He commented on the hand brake but it just passed, it improved with use and in the end would lock the back wheels when driving along the road. I think it was just a bit of contamination on the rear brakes. He also commented on one wheel that was feathering a tyre, so he aligned it for next to nothing. He also broke his shifter while trying to loosing a track rod end nut. I tried not to laugh, but failed. He said it had a crack in the jaw of it for ages, it has been a spanner for 30+ years, been hammered on, put on the end of a long pipe with two people pushing on the pipe, it owes me nothing. Been a good shifter, but I was needing a new one anyway.
      He was quite strict with MOTs, but he lost his licence for them, never found out why!

    Nice to see Ed Recycling this RR back onto the road eventually, in a society Today where we are more often scrapping relatively repairable cars which can be used for many more years to come.

      The UK and car dealers offering Scrappage incentives is part of the reason many of these old vehicles are scrapped because with a move to a greener society they are getting to the point that in a few years the Emission regulations will be almost impossible to meet.

    Edd, you should consider taking advantage of the current mania for ASMR videos and just present loops of activities like you recreating knackered brake lines. What a lovely thing to watch!
    Your hand skills + common sense analysis are a joy...

    I love the tempo of your show. I've been wrenching on cars for all of my adult life, so I'm not learning anything new here, but it's a stark contrast to the way I operate. I'm always cursing and moving quickly. I especially don't like doing rusty brake lines because they tend to break in more spots than they even were before I start in on them. You're cool, collected, calm, and the camera work really sets it off. Nice job.
    Also, I really like that flaring tool. If I have another big project where I need to do a bunch of flares, I might pick one up.

    Ed, there is a flat die on the rotary part of the flaring tool. Before fully tightening the clamp, it pushes the pipe back to exactly flush with the end of the die blocks. Takes away the guesswork. By the way in the states we call Cunifer "NiCopp". Thanks for the great content!
    Cheers
