Justin, it depends on your tube and/or if you're running tubeless. A new core is less than a buck and super easy to replace. Some tubes you can replace it. Just be careful not to twist too hard as to damage the tube - if it is indeed removable. I've been running tubeless on my gravel, enduro and dh bike and haven't used a tube in ages... so I'd have to actually grab a tube to check and confirm it's doable! Hopefully it is!

thanks this really helped. My Presta valve broke but the tire did not go down, It stayed sealed and I drove 50km and the tire stayed up all the way. Now I know how to change the core I can take a core from my spare and just replace the core and keep on going. Great video. Sometimes it is hard to get the pump on a tire is there an extender that you can put on a tire so you are away from the rim and then put the pump on?
Thanks brother! I'll be putting up tons of basic starter questions and skills for multiple sports, equipment and game changers that I've discovered over the years. Thanks for the kind words!
Hey cool video. I’ve got a presta valve core that is removed but the air won’t come out of tire. I can’t put air into tire with core installed either. Is there something that is in the tire to keep air from coming out when removed? And when I put core in the air won’t go into tire. Which is why I removed the core in first place. I’ve never had this happen before.
Take a 2mm Allen wrench and shove it into the valve once the core is removed. Most likely it's clogged with dried sealant. I'll post a short today on how to do it.
Reason tells me a bent presta valve stem can probably be coaxed into being straight again, perhaps not perfect but certainly usable. If you have a balky or leaky non-removable core -- and many cores are non-removable -- it might make sense to try straightening it before tossing the whole tube. Care must be taken, of course, because it's made of brass, a very soft metal that work hardens and becomes brittle. It if breaks off, you're replacing it for sure.
I can’t put valve core in my bike. I separated one more part of valve b/c core doesn’t fit. Core can be put inside on last wider part but I am using tool I can’t even turn b/w tire those tire lines. Due to my lack of English I note 4 standar cores / they look like yours and this tool with 4 features. Last year my daughter fix in private garage and I don’t know why she got different valve?? One tire is still good never fixed due to using women Shimano bike. Do I need maybe different core valves to by. Thanks in advance 😊
While unscrewing my presta pump adaptor the valve core blew out at high pressure. Given the tight fit of the adaptor that you screw on what keeps it from acting as a valve core wrench and loosening the valve core each time? It freaked me out blowing out at 85psi and both the stem and my adaptor went flying in the backyard. Shouldn’t the thread go the opposite direction to avoid this?
If you're using an adapter for your pump to fit, don't screw it on so tight. Just snug. The valve core should be nice and tight so as not to accidentally unscrew.. Like I think happened with you.
This was good, but my problem is that the lower, internal part of my valve core did not come out when I removed my valve core. I need a way to get it out. Tweezers don’t seem to be working.
Can I replace the valve core without deflating the tire fully? I don't have a very high pressure pump at home, I want to be able to inflate it back after I replace the core.
Hi mark. My valve core is stuck and won’t let me deflate. If I remove the valve core whilst fully inflated am I going to get loads of sealant spewing out?
Spin the wheel so the valve is in the top (12 o clock) position. Then take the valve out. The sealant will be at the bottom (6 o clock position) and should have minimal spray or leakage. I'll do a short on it today.
I’m actually quite proud of myself. I genuinely though that might be the answer after I’d asked the question. Thank you for confirming 👍 great vid btw. Nice and simple. Which suits me 😉 Look forward to the short. I’ve only a standard track pump but hopefully I’ll be able to blast enough to get a seal again.
You said before I unscrew the broken valve core I have to press down to let the air out, but mine wont let any air out when I press on it. Do you have any suggestions?

Ive just realised i broke mine, i threw out a tire before cause i didnt realise this was the problem how do you avoid breaking them, i was just trying to fill my tire and then i heard a click and all the air went out
Why replace it, tubes are cheap? My tube has a very slow leak, takes almost 24 hours to be flat, after 16 hours tube isn't too flat to ride on. Tube is fairly new too. I kept patching a tube over and over until on one ride the valve stem blew out and stranded me along the road.
So most mountain bike tires run a tubeless setup as do most of the newer road bikes/gravel bike wheels and tires. A new valve core is about a dollar and takes 30 seconds to change. A tube is more expensive, heavier and takes longer to install and change. Also, you're more likely to get a pinch flat with a tube then with a tubeless set up. A new tube certainly is an option, but with most modern bikes going to a tubeless setup, it's bit antiquated to replace it with a new tube.
