UPDATE: We have a new (better) version of this video on our bike maintenance channel. Go watch that video instead: ruclips.net/video/4rkbkjNvPdk/видео.html
I watched this one after the new version. It looks quicker if you have hairy gorilla hands like me to force the tire lever under the bead. Nice to know both exist !
Just watched this , went in the garage, gave it a go and succeeded at the second attempt. Why pay £50 - £80 for a high volume compressor pump. This is a video worth watching. better than a lot of useless stuff on RUclips.
Just did my first tubeless tire mount using this technique and only a floor pump. Took several tries to do the bead technique right but once I did and started inflating, finally I heard it pop into place. Thank you!
Thank you!!! During this time of uncertainty and confusion, you helped me get my new tires mounted without having to first borrow my neighbors compressor. The wait at my local shop would have been 3 weeks just to get 2 tires mounted. You’ve allowed me to continue enjoying the outdoors and escape the isolation. Appreciate you both!!!!
Thanks! I was desperate and about to give up on using my new tubeless tires because I wasn’t able to inflate them even with a compresor, but your technique saved the day🎉
What I find easier using floor pump by initially putting tube to seat the tire and then remove the tube while the other side of the tire is seated. Then use the tire level like Macky did. That way you only worry about 1 side to check for leaks. Works for me😀
Way I've always done it, pop both beads on with a tube and open one side to remove the tube and insert tubeless valve and sealant, makes it easier just dealing with one side.
This was EXACTLY what I needed to know! First time setting up tubeless, small but critical questions at every step. I really appreciate your teamwork and understanding what people need to see and know - zooming in a key points. THANK YOU!!
Doubters - I did this first try with a Joe Blow floor pump. No charger/compessor and don't intend to ever have one. 57 years old, arthritic hands and all.
The best video on tubeless tire installation. They are using a mountain bike tire, but their tricks solved all my problems with converting my road bike to tubeless (already had tubeless wheels). Thank you both!
This is amazing. No more wasting co2 cartridges. Worked perfectly! One thing I would recommend is to add sealant after the initial set it, less messy. Just get a syringe and inject sealant before reinstalling the valve.
I’ve shared this with many people. This helps even with an air compressor when you have trouble getting the tire to seat. Just a good skill/knowledge to have.
This tip worked GREAT!! Spent a couple hours yesterday putting a tube in and taking tube out in order to seat one side and still could not get the other side seated with air tank or Co2. Ended up saying screw it and put the tube back in last night. Saw your video and decided to give it a try. Took tube out and seated 1/2 of the unseated side with a tire iron and hit it with my floor pump. Wow! It pumped up to 40 psi and seated in 20 seconds. You are THE MAN!!!!
I was just about to call my local bike mechanic, thinking I'd messed up my first tubeless conversion when I watched this. I couldn't get the bead to sit on the edge of the rim, but removing the valve core did the trick. Inflated straight away when nothing was happening before I removed it. Thanks!
You are legend! Have spent many hours trying to seat a Maxxis Icon to a Giant rim with a deep centre channel that the tyre kept slipping into. Whith chamber pump had tried soapy water, rope around tyre, different valve stem and any and all other tricks I could find. This is the ONLY one that worked. Saved me from having to ride tubes on a 1100km brevit. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I cannot thank you enough for this. I haven’t been as frustrated as I was in a looooooong time, but then your video turned my day around. A million thanks 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great info ,worked first time after struggling .No air compressor needed just a simple track pump. I firstly put a tube in and pumped it up to seat both sides , I then let the air out and carefully unseated one side and removed the tube ,I reinserted the tubeless valve then used the tyre lever to carefully seat as much of the unseated side as possible. I then removed the removable valve core and pumped like he'll with the track pump and up she went .
Hey Syd and Macky. IT WORKED first try with a FAT BIKE TYRE, 27.5 x 4.5 Gnarwhal. Very great technique and so well explained. Thanks, just saved me £100 not having to buy an air compressor now.
I had fought with a Racing Ralph that I had mounted last year. Used a charger pump, removed core. Tried a rim strap, 2 straps, inner tube trick, etc. Spent 2 hours, sealant everywhere. Finally found this video the next day and “Spang” - Done in 1! Thanks guys.
Howdy. You saved my day!!!!! I have been putting on normal tires for years and years. Half a year ago I put on my first tubeless, and I had no problem what so ever, to get air in to it. And I thought what are they talking about, not being able to get air in to the tire? Today I was fitting my next tubeless and IT DID NOT WORK! Watched your video, and boom, it was on! Good job!
Wow thank you guys so much for your videos! This one in particular just saved me from ripping my own hair out! Struggled for literally an hour, came across this video and had both of the tires seated and sealed in less then 20 mins
First time I *tried* to inflate a tubeless tyre with a floor pump, I swear I could hear it mocking me... And, went and bought a charger. I figured, every set of wheels I'll be buying from hereon in will be tubeless, so, I'll need it anyway. I also have to say, the "pink pink pink" sound is the most satisfying sound of all time.....
@@mattkavanaugh5623 Agree completely. I just bought a separate charger, as my pump is fine, and the charger on its own is a fair bit cheaper, but if you were buying your first pump, I would recommend a combination unit.
The tip about removing the valve core did it for me. I was getting so frustrated, but with the valve core out I got mine seated without even using your secret. Thanks!
Holy shit this video just saved my life got a big race tomorrow and it’s too late to go to any shop. Did it in the hotel room bath tub got it first try! Thank youuuu 😭😭😭😭
I just finished converting my front tire. Took me 4 frustrating hours but i was able to do it using just a hand pump. Im going to try this technique tomorrow for my rear wheel. Thank u somuch
Oooh, I seriously struggled tonight and my last hope was to find a miraculous trick. This was the first video I clicked on and 10 minutes later the 2-hour pain was over. I owe you sooo much for sharing this! (Because, for some reason this time the tire wouldn't pop up even with a pump with a charger, as it did before, no idea why.)
I have been installing my own tubeless mountain bike tires for over 10 years. I purchased a gravel bike and could not get the new tires I bought to inflate WITH a compressor. This little tip did the trick! Thank you!!
This was great advice. I just did my first tubeless install without a compressor. After seating the bead as far as I could with the tire lever, inflating with a floor pump seated it the rest of the way without any fuss at all. Great advice!
This video contains THE BEST tip. Maxxis Chronicle 29 x 3.0 re-installation was a nightmare. After numerous attempts and numerous sets of internet/youtube advice, found this video. Superb!
thanks alot guys.. after being frustrated yesterday and spent so much time and energy on that. Today woke up had my coffee and found your video and....... Minutes later have a functioning tubeless tire :) Although i have a tip for people doing this in their apartments: You can guy just pump the wheel without using any sealant so the peeds are seated first. Then let the air flow out so slow without a core. This way you can apply sealant throw the valve, assemble the Valve Core back and pump the tire normally
Step 1: be Macky level fit Step 2: do bead trick Step 3: pump so hard you are out of breath even though you are Macky level fit 🤣 I'll stick with my compressor. Local trail head has a great air supply. Just saw someone doing tubless in the parking lot last week, said it was easier than pulling out his compressor at home. A good reason to support your local trail society. The bike wash alone is worth my yearly pledge.
Thank you! I have never has such trouble installing a tubeless tire (and have done quite a few). The 700*35c GravelKing was a true challenge. I tried every trick and was ready to give up when I remembered reading your post (i had skipped down originally). I skeptically tried the levers to seat the tire and after a few false starts, it started to work. It was magic to hear the "pops" ... thank you for posting.
Main issue is a new tyre and the easiest way with a really stubborn seat is to fit an inner tube and pump it up hard. Leave it a bit then release the air (overnight if possible to get it relaxed into shape). Let out the air and release the bead on one side only (Short side if it's an Asymmetric rim) remove the inner tube without breaking the seat on the one side. Then inflate with one side 100% still seated... not once have I ever seen this method fail. Also never add sealant until its seated (always dry seat a new tyre).. then let the air out again then add sealant through the Valve with the core out using a cheap syringe and reinflate. Also a top tip is some rims are shaped so make sure valve seal is the right shape and aligned correctly.
this is the correct answer. ALSO, you don't need a tire tool to seat the second bead. You can just do it with your fingers by "crimping" the tire and reaching through the loose sidewall to indirectly push the bead in with the tips of your fingers from the opposite side.
Bontrager and a few others make dual cylinder floor pumps that you charge up by filling with valve closed and release when ready. I know you mentioned something like this but I’ve done your way and I’m only lucky about half the time, but with my charger tubeless pump is spot on. When we getting some BC race video? Thanks for the great content and keep up the great stuff!!!!!!!!
Yeah, we have a charger pump too, but didn't use it so we could prove that this works 😁 BCBR videos start dropping Friday but if you want to watch them early, we just posted day 1 on Patreon!
Bontrager pumps works well with my need. It has built in pressure gauge. I don’t have to worry about buying gauge pump. Little pricey but worth in the long run.
Oh brilliant! I just used this to do tubeless on a non-tubeless rim (zip tape to seal the rim) and it works great. So much easier than all of the other nonsense (foam filler, multiple layers of tape) I have done since 2000 to make tubeless work on old rims. Thanks for the tip!
thank's for the share i just added my little tricks, i store all my tire with a cheap tube inside to spread the side walls and after i mount them conventionaly with a floor pump to, they seem to jump by them self on the bead ;-)
Pretty sure I've watched this before...I remembered watching it but didn't remembered the trick. Struggled with a set of tubeless tires. STRUGGLED! Getting the bead half mounted on gravel tires was a huge PITA, but man... after a few tries... BOOM! Mounted right up. Never forgetting the trick again. Thanks so much!
This is a great tip, I will be trying it. I have a charging chamber and still have had trouble putting new tires on sometimes, how frustrating it is when that happens. Thanks!
Thanks to your video I just installed a Bontrager XR2 29x3.00 monster onto a Sunringle 50mm wide rim in 20 minutes. The last time I attempted this it took me 2 days and a car compresser pump! Fantastic!!!
Great video, tried this method for my first attempt at going tubeless and it worked first time. 2nd wheel was a nightmare, but it turned out to be the pre installed tape on the wheel leaking. I put new tape on that wheel and your method worked first time again.
This video helped me to set up my first two tubeless tires und saved me from going insane after I had even failed with a compressor! Thank you! I didnt start at the valve but about a quarter turn BEFORE the valve and expected to get to at least a quarter past the valve and it worked. the third wheel was a very stubborn road tire. What aided me here was putting in a tube and setting it up with a tube in first. Afterwards I unseated only one side of the tire just to get the tube out. the other side remained seated, which was a big advantage. Then I repeated the trick and now I have 3 perfectly set tubeless tires!
I tried all the traditional methods, TWICE, with the pressure of a baby silently judging me, and sometimes crying (2 hours), this solved it in 2 minutes! Thanks!
Ok, so I just mounted new tires, floor pump only using your method. Got it on the first try for front AND rear. Even got the tires to hold air with no sealant and no water/soap assist...and these are 10 yr old rims with new Conti Trail Kings. Thanks!
This was my first tubeless experience. No compressor so I followed your instructions. Worked first time ! Tyre lever snapped just at the end of the second side, but I was just past the halfway point. Thanks so much😅
Big help mate! I was getting frustrated following every video here in YT and getting nowhere, until I watched this! In 10 minutes, I got my tubeless tyre inflated. Thanks!
After trying for an hour to manually pump up my tire, I watched this video, and the secret worked! that pang sound of the tire bead seating was the sweetest sound. Thanks for making this video and sharing!
Bell makes a nice and cheap high volume floor pump at I believe 650cm³ and it's $15 on Amazon. Ever since I got that floor pump I have never had an issue seating a bead. Before that I used Phil kmetz modified garden sprayed method, before that I cursed and pumped wildly until I gave up and took it to work where I have a compressor or the bike gremlin decided to let me win for once 😅
I was wondering about this too and then maybe thinking the trick of putting the tire on the bead shelf already put it past the point of snapping. Of course, there’s the other half of the bead, but still.
Maybe putting the sealant in first lubricated the tire/rim interface enough to make the snap less pronounced? I always seat the tire first and then put the sealant in--less chance of mess.
Lifesaver! First time changing tubeless tires on a gravel bike with 700x33 tires. I have a compressor and couldn’t get them mounted until I watched your video. Thanks so much for posting!
Wow I fought a tire that didn’t want to bead for an hour tried this trick and worked like a charm! This video should get a RUclips award for most helpful video!
Almost give up on my tubeless tire installation until I chance upon your video, this is very effective, thanks, subscriber here from the Philippines.......
Thanks for this. I have never had tubeless tires before and was struggling. I had just enough data signal while camping to view this video. Had it fixed and ready to go in under 5 minutes. At first I wasn’t sure it worked. Then I figured I’d inflate to 40 psi like you did. Right at 38psi I heard a LOUD, sharp PINGGGG. Knew I was good to go after that!!! Thumbs up’ing the video!!
I just replaced both my tubeless 29'er tires. I sorta did what you guys did. I took out the core and pumped the tires up to 40 PSI checked that they were seated then removed the valve core and let the air out. Then I put in the sealant in replaced the valve cores and pumped up the tires again. I needed the workout pumping the tires. I just used the floor pump like you guys have. What I do also to check the bead seat is I have my bike inverted and after I am finished and remounted the tire I just rotate the tire. If the tire bead is not seated all the way around the tire it will wiggle when you spin the tire. If the tire is seated the tire will not wiggle at all.
You guys rock. With no access to a compressor, and a failed CO2 attempt, your method totally did the trick. We will never be afraid of changing out tires again (like this time last minute for Nationals). Brilliant!!!!
I actually already had an air compressor, but decided to try your trick out. and it worked like a charm, thanks so much! I realized after installing my front tire that it was on backwards, unfortunately, but I ended up getting more practice and doing this process 3x then! ;) I shared this on my Facebook page as I have a lot of cycling friends. Now I'll be able to save installation fees going forward and install new tubeless tires whenever I need them, thanks again!
you guys ROCK!! I was just feeling defeated as I was installing a tubeless on my mountain bike for the first time. When I got to the inflating part, I felt totally defeated.... Hadn't thought that far ahead! Found this video right away and my tire is on and inflated! Thanks tons!
Lovely. Been running tubeless for ages and never had a problem with tyres, but couldn't get new gravel tyres on MTB wheels. Probably a bit narrow for the rim truth be told. So been using tubes in them which kind of defeats the purpose. Anyway, came across this video, couple of goes later both tyres on the rim with track pump, didn't even take out valve core. Brilliant. Thanks
Thanks guys, this is a really helpful video! I recently had a tire that was very hard to get pumped even with a compressor and I had trouble to get it to stay when pulling it up to the rim with a tire lever. So what I ended up doing was to put a tube in first and pump it to a high enough pressure so that it sits evenly on the rim. Then, I lay the wheel on its side, so that the tire doesn't touch the ground ( I set the hub on a roll of tape). Then I deflated it and only took the bead off the rim on one side to remove the tube, put the tubeless valve in and then carefully put the bead back on the rim. After that I was able to inflate it right away. Thought I would share this, was what work out for me in the end on a pretty stubborn tire!
THE SECRET is absolutely on the money. Unless your tire beads are somehow already miraculously setting up on the shelf near the outer rim edge, even with a powerful air compressor, they will be leaking air so badly that they will never balloon out and set the bead. I took a plastic bead tool similar to yours and just maneuvered one half of the bead (on one side only) and was able to get my compressor to pop out the tire. This was on a totally dry well used tire with no soapy water and no sealant at all, but yes a large compressor. I took it on and off the rim and it just would not set until I did this trick.
Used this video yesterday as I was thinking of taking the wheel to the bike shop to get it done. Use of the tire lever to seat the tire worked great! And I did it correctly as the tires lost no pressure overnight-THANKS!😀
This is MAGIC. Ive done so many tube less before but a new combination of rim and tyre just didn't want to work. After trying everythingfor 2 days I came across your video and your trick took me less than 5 min to inflate both tyres. Top man. Thanks.
Thanks guys for remaking the video. This one is much easier to understand the secret! I struggled with my first tire and got it right on after I turned on this video - while doing the tire fit!
I went to the LBS to get tubeless rim tape, sealant, valves and valve core remover and they asked if I had a compressor or a charger and I reply "I have a RUclips video" and they look at me like I'm nuts! Worked like a charm team and got all those satisfying pink, pink, pink sounds. Thanks for such an informative video :)
I just set up a tubeless tire using Syd's taping video and this floor pump video - using the same tire BTW. Worked. DIY videos like this is part of why I support you guys on Patreon.
Wow, that was absolutely amazing. Just got the tyre on first time.👍 Injected the sealant through the valve after seating tyre but it all went like a dream. Thank you very much 🚴♀️👍
My new go to method! Done this 3 times now - can be tricky, but deffs works. I use a REALLY cheap floor pump which barely attaches when I remove valve core and I still get it to seat. I don't add sealent at the same time though. I get it to seat, then i release the pressure and reinsert valve core. Next, I unseat a small gap and pour in sealent. Then reinflate, and the little bit pops back into place. No mess whatsoever
You saved my life with Maxxis Rambler Exo TR 40mm gravel tire on Easton gravel wheelset. Tire was so loose on rim that seemed impossible job. Worked my way around the bead with fingers and lever and then BOOM! 😂 (not that kind..) inflated both with a floorpump. Thank you very much!
I have suffered the last 4 years with telogen effluvium (basically stress induced balding) that was initially triggered by the tubeless mountain bike tire revolution. This video has pushed that into full remission. Miracle cure.

Thanks for the tip!
thank's for the share
i just added my little tricks, i store all my tire with a cheap tube inside to spread the side walls and after i mount them conventionaly with a floor pump to, they seem to jump by them self on the bead ;-)
If you don't mind the extra weight then that's a certainly an idea.
@@Mr.P.Griffith ? Extra weight in storage. I remove thé tube before mounting them 🤗
This worked perfect with Syd and Macky’s method on the other side, I didn’t even need to remove the valve cores when pumping!
I seem to be the only one having problems. How do you get the bead to sit on the rim? It keeps flipping back in or out for me.
Great video, tried this method for my first attempt at going tubeless and it worked first time. 2nd wheel was a nightmare, but it turned out to be the pre installed tape on the wheel leaking. I put new tape on that wheel and your method worked first time again.
awesome information! i already bought a charger to keep in my truck and i have a compressor in my garage.... but you never know...
Then I repeated the trick and now I have 3 perfectly set tubeless tires!
good stuff, even with a compressor this trick helps.
I tried all the traditional methods, TWICE, with the pressure of a baby silently judging me, and sometimes crying (2 hours), this solved it in 2 minutes! Thanks!
5:28 is the kitty 😻
Thx for this tip! No joke, I was unsuccessfully trying to mount a set last night. I'll give this a go!
Ok, so I just mounted new tires, floor pump only using your method. Got it on the first try for front AND rear. Even got the tires to hold air with no sealant and no water/soap assist...and these are 10 yr old rims with new Conti Trail Kings. Thanks!
Dude you are a genius... Not a single one of the big youtube bike channels tells this trick and it works like a charm
Unbelievable, it actually worked when everything else didn't! Thank you!
This was my first tubeless experience. No compressor so I followed your instructions. Worked first time ! Tyre lever snapped just at the end of the second side, but I was just past the halfway point. Thanks so much😅
I hung in there till the end just to make sure someone pet the kitty - thanks!
Big help mate! I was getting frustrated following every video here in YT and getting nowhere, until I watched this! In 10 minutes, I got my tubeless tyre inflated. Thanks!
what kinda training modality do you recommend to not be so winded/exhausted from using the floor pump? lol
😂🤣
You have a link at all please?

I would recommend this video over the newer one. This one is simpler and gets you understanding the basic technique better.
Aww, you fast forwarded past the "SNAP!" sound of the rest of the bead popping into place.
Actually didn't get a pop with this one, it just slid it's way on nice and smooth! But yeah, I love the pop too!
@@mattgies did mine the same way. Used a syringe with a homemade adapter. Might take a tad longer but no mess.
the pop always scares the shit out of me
i had a tire EXPLODE in between my legs at the bank atm one time maybe thats why
Lifesaver! First time changing tubeless tires on a gravel bike with 700x33 tires. I have a compressor and couldn’t get them mounted until I watched your video. Thanks so much for posting!
This truly is the secret
Had heaps of trouble seating a used tire, even with a booster. Used your trick and got that sweet pop straight away. Thank you for saving my sanity.
When I take the valve core out the pump doesn’t fit!
Yeah, many pumps are designed that way. It will usually still work, but sometimes you have to have someone hold the pump onto the valve for you..
Wow I fought a tire that didn’t want to bead for an hour tried this trick and worked like a charm! This video should get a RUclips award for most helpful video!
Lol. Just wrestled two tires on which took forever and ever. Then launch RUclips just to find this video. Lol lol lol. And thanks. :)
Was there a tutorial here somewhere? All I saw was the cat.
Hands down there is no better advice, tip, tutorial, hack or time saver in the interwebs for tubeless. Syd & Mackie for knighthood.
Thanks a million
It WORKED!....AFTER 3 days trying and not getting it. Imediatly after this video it works
I've battled with my tubeless tyres all night then you guys just saved me with this video!! Good work!
It works absolutely work. I'm done with my normal rims and use tubeless maxxis tires. Great work! Thank you
You guys rock. With no access to a compressor, and a failed CO2 attempt, your method totally did the trick. We will never be afraid of changing out tires again (like this time last minute for Nationals). Brilliant!!!!
OMG!!! I have been trying to seat my tires for the last 4 hrs googleing videos and nothing until this one!! Thanks!!
I can't believe that worked! Thank you so much! You saved me from buying another pump or taking my bike to the shop. Brilliant. 👍
This video was a big help, had the first time that my tyres refused to seat and your trick with the tyre levers saved the day
Thank you. This is GOLD. First time setting up tubeless. First tire took two tries, second tire worked the first time!
You are a life saver. I have been trying get a tire to sit correctly for 3 hours until i found this video. Took me 2 minutes. Thanks for the content.
Top man. Thanks.
Seriously the best video I've seen on YT. Was ready to take my tire and wheel to the bike shop but this trick WORKED!!! Thank you so much!
This totally helped, it’s like 95% sealed, that is better than anything else I’ve tried, thank you.
Like everyone else, I am grateful and happy to have your expert and thorough tutorial on seating tubeless tires. Many thanks!
You should go back in and tell them it worked and then share the video of they don't believe you! 😁
I just set up a tubeless tire using Syd's taping video and this floor pump video - using the same tire BTW. Worked. DIY videos like this is part of why I support you guys on Patreon.
Thanks guys. It was driving me mad trying to get my new tubeless tyre to seat and seal...then watched your video and it was simple to do it.
😂😂
