WWII was more devastating overall, but WWI was the most brutal combat that has ever happened, and you can tell the developers put effort into making it feel like that. Every scream and shout is an actual player character reacting to the events around them, there's dirt and smoke in the air, shells are raining down constantly, men are getting shredded by shrapnel and machine gun fire while screaming for their mothers. The terrain turns into a full blown no man's land over the course of a full match, and the soldiers get progressively dirtier and more frantic as the battle continues. Once you actually enter a firefight, it's pure chaos, and you can barely tell what's going on half the time from the sheer amount of gunfire and explosions happening around you. This game is very good.
6:46 ARTILLERIEEEE the terror and pain in that soldiers voice is just so oppressive and heartbreaking. The sound design and voice acting in this game is outstanding.

I would take it any day of the week over the fucking steady cam panning at 0 sensitivity looking at every grain of dirt the way people do for official gameplay trailers.

Juan Pablo Melita even the ones in the reserve trench got traumatized or completely lost minds and ended up losing all bearing that ended up not being able to walk properly just from the constant pounding of the Artillery.
The crazy thing about these wars was that your life was pure chance. Your strength, skill or bravery really didn't mean a whole lot. The finest soldier the world has ever seen could be killed in a split second merely because he happened to walk under mortar fire, or an enemy just happened to be positioned overlooking his position. Think how many men of upmost quality were killed. How many potential geniuses or legends. How many Mozarts or Davinci's.
You know, this is how you pay tribute to an event like this, making it fun and immersive, but still reminding the normal player every now and then that they can be beyond happy to only relive this moment through a virtual world, sitting in their homes safely; it is a respectful and well put-together game, made with passion, and it shows. BF1 isn't perfect, of course, but it is a really nice Battlefield game. BF1 is actually one of very few war games that made me really think about it all while playing, the horror it must've been for all these young men, sometimes even younger than me, to be trapped in this unfortunate situation and facing the dread of dying or getting crippled with sometimes little to no effect on the situation, to see their lives thrown away by a few power-hungry leaders... I mean how it all starts out already sets the mood; upon first bootup, you get thrown into a battlefield, you fight and fight and then you're out of bullets and die... But you won't respawn, you see the name of the soldier you played that just died and his date of birth and up to the next one, that too will die sooner or later. I think it's a respect to the real thing that nowadays, a lot of shooters seem to clearly miss, as the newest iteration of the game, BF20-42fps presents; try to sell war as a fun and cool activity for the hip kids that are there for the fun of it and come up with quotes beyond cringe and you'll undoubtly stand there as a fool. CoD or CSGO are a different story, they're more acardy and less serious, they don't have that problem. But a game, that wants to sell war, should potrait war and war is not a pretty thing.
I think tactical fps games like cs:go or rainbow six siege are not about war. You play with special forces and the whole game is on papaer all about strategy, team coordination and of skill. And I think these games give an pretty accurate feeling like bf1 if you have the right circumstances (good teammates, and the enemy is not cheating)
3:42 This right here is a perfect example of what happens in battle. In Vietnam, a quarter of all American casualties were caused by friendly fire, and this is how it happens. A soldier becomes frightened by all the chaos of battle, sees a human, and fires instinctively.
Think of what you said for a minute A force so terrible it causes a man to become so scared that the first thing they do is to kill another man To see another human being, one with ambitions, dreams and a soul, be nothing but a target for you to shoot at. How horrible is that

One of the things that made Battlefield 1 special was the Atmosphere. The Realism and playerbase is a different topic in itself but the Atmosphere. Every match you play you feel like you're there. I remember seeing this video, immediately bought bf1, and decided to never play it with the hud. I’d say this is the best way to play this game, you may not end up at the top of leaderboards or give your teams a fighting chance, but it gives you an authentic experience worth trying at least once. At first I’d usually only live for 30 seconds after spawn before being killed from behind or blindsided. Gave me chilling insights into the realities of those who faced the real thing and how short some of their journeys would be. The hardest part for me at first was being able to differentiate enemies from friendlies at a distance of only 20 yards or so on the dark fields, I’d often hesitate long enough to get slaughtered before I even shot my first bullet. Listening out for enemy/friendly shouts, screams or bullets is something you really grow to rely on for a measure of enemy proximity.. just a cool gaming experience. It took a long time to figure out flag locations, spawn points, cover areas etc. but it was all worthwhile, and felt more rewarding to become a stronger competitive player.
the best and only way to play. I mean there's absolutely no game that gives you chills like when you jump into a trench and spray enemies down hipfire with a trench automatico
idk if you know this but games like squad or hell let loose offer this experience as a baseline, so you can get an immersive experience without being at disadvantage from a competitive standpoint. worth checking out!

When Life Smacks You In The Face we're getting the "Frontlines" game mode in the French DLC which would be the perfect game mode if the French maps have trenches
Make trenches yourself at a flag and defend it. Find the highest points on ground with grass and it will give you a fox hole. Hit each hole twice with explosives for maximum depth and cover. communicate with your squad to do the same. But the more aggressive team wins so that means you need forward trench directly between flags that are covered by friendly flag trenches. Together we can make trenches great again. And nobody better bitch about people using trenches in WW1 game. The goal of a trench is to make the enemy waste ammo on you while in cover after you draw fire while you waste the enemy from a different new position. Trenches=frustrated snipers if you shoot and move rather than standing still and bunching up close to teammates. Keep in mind playing and being more aggressive for the win can and will result in more deaths if not done properly. agreeably control flag caps with your team and keep all your caps and enemy caps on one side of the battlefield. This way everything can be easily defended and you can have fun harvesting kills and shit. Ways to counter trenches are building your own trenches or if you cant build your own trenches use distance or get close using cover to cover and drawing enemy fire for friendlies to shoot at. If you decide to stay back then you stay back and COVER your friendlies with direct and/or suppressive fire to keep the enemies head down/kill them. Machine gun tanks, machine gun mounted vehicles or anything machine gun should stay back with machine Gun classes, BARs, Lewis gunners, Snipers and most bolt actions should stay back and cover friendlies and suppress enemies. the armored pickup with MG should be upfront to scare shit out of enemy. Overwhelm your enemy with targets and make sure everyone is either firing or moving, and taking initiative to get on the front line and not push up alone and lose your team points

This game is so beautiful. Removing the HUD makes it look 10x more horrifying. Watching this made things stick out that I never really paid attention to. Like those air bursting artillery shells and the screaming of the dying. Freakin brutal!
I wish more games would be designed to be played this way, without HUD. Including Battlefield. Yes you can turn off the HUD, but you're at major disadvantage because the game was designed to be played HUD on. Minimap is like 60% of the whole game. But if it wasn't, you could play like this always, seems like graphics leap forward 15 years. Immersion is so much better, looks like real life except the twitchy movements that comes from mouse inputs We don't really think about it, but HUD ruins so much.... but it has become a standard. Such a shame.
@@sergiomendoza251 Yeah, but if the game was designed from the ground up to be without HUD (or very minimal, only appearing for certain actions like checking how many mags you have by a button press) then it would be same for everyone.

Thats scary
Yeah, my great grandfather was lucky enough to survive ww1, otherwise I wouldnt be typing this, or would I?
Yeah. So many Einsteins also be killed. And One motherfucking German soldier survived that war. The One created ww1 square.
F
your so right
You know, this is how you pay tribute to an event like this, making it fun and immersive, but still reminding the normal player every now and then that they can be beyond happy to only relive this moment through a virtual world, sitting in their homes safely; it is a respectful and well put-together game, made with passion, and it shows.
That's what makes Battlefield the best FPS War game of all times
The first mission where "you are not expected to survive" was honestly a pretty emotional tribute to real thing the more I thought about it
Everything was so simple back then. Everyone just living in the moment and not a single phone in sight.

This right here is a perfect example of what happens in battle. In Vietnam, a quarter of all American casualties were caused by friendly fire, and this is how it happens. A soldier becomes frightened by all the chaos of battle, sees a human, and fires instinctively.
Think of what you said for a minute
A force so terrible it causes a man to become so scared that the first thing they do is to kill another man
To see another human being, one with ambitions, dreams and a soul, be nothing but a target for you to shoot at.
How horrible is that
@bean sprout i feel like he was getting at the awfulness of having been put in that situation in the first place.
And also because military uniforms look similar. Just different shades of green grey and brown
@@beansprout5202 And that, that is what makes war truly terrifying. That your fellow man becomes the most dangerous thing to your continued existence; to strip the human mind of morality and reason, only to realize what you have done after it has been done.
The only thing that separates you and the enemy is a uniform, and when you can’t see the uniform it’s either an enemy or an Allie, you shoot in case it’s an enemy.

And yet when they want to make money by giving skins people still bitch how are they supposed to monetize the game if people get mad at every little thing?
kirito _4kirigaya Righttttttt, had nothing to do with the worst marketing for a game in history. You don’t just make BF1 and then follow it up with a WW2 game with glaring inaccuracies. Don’t blame the fans lol bunch of idiots at EA.
Too bad this sort of mode was never supported. Hardcore was almost impossible to find consistently. Shame, it was such a fun mode
@@kirito_4kirigaya944 Actually, the main reason why people didn't like it was because EA called people "Uneducated" and said they never studied history, even though their game has gigantic inaccuracies...
Alexander Charles Exactly. I actually miss this game. I have nothing like BF1 to play atm. Battlefront 2 is fun but nothing like a battlefield game.
Rainbow 6 Siege is my favourite competitive game but still completely different
I just want a shooter where I can get list in the action again. BF1 with all its flaws was incredibly immersive.
Most terrifying moments
8:10 “We’re being murdered here!”
8:24 “Bloody hell we’re getting cut to pieces!”
7:58 “This can’t be happening!”
6:47 “Artillerie!”

2:13 Sudden mortar bombardment
0:58 “Oh Mein Gott! Ok, ok, attake!”
7:08 Charging forward
Bro the solider screaming "Artilleri" is by far the most terrifying one, and thats with it being at it leasts gore. I wonder how it would had looked had the body been programmed to scatter into piece
I didn't notice some of these, damn this makes it so much worse
the last one in your comment is the most terrifying, how in this scene there is literally a dead body falling on you with the screams, the soldiers crying and the mortar bombardement, god damn
Don’t forget 2:46, imagine fighting and suddenly a tank came down the hill almost crushing you
Kindof old comment, but don’t forget 7:20.
Seeing someone get blown to bits and their body falling almost on top of you is pretty terrifying
No matter how many times I watch it, seeing the soldier at 6:08 be obliterated by artillery always chills me. That's true terror, seeing one of your friends simply wiped off the face of the earth without warning

Can you imagine if this was the reveal trailer for battlefield 1??
Keith Chambers Same amount of N U T.
I would've been sold
You mean BFV
No, it had to be some Battlefield 4'esque Michael Bay bullshit.
Keith Chambers It would be a bad first impression since it has no hud for players to understand where they are going.

nutmalone where was the mistake
After playing Battlefield, other FPS games are just to.....quiet
I mean there's absolutely no game that gives you chills like when you jump into a trench and spray enemies down hipfire with a trench automatico
theres a no hud mode where you dont get blindsighted as often because your enemy is just as confused as you are.
You can just play the game on hardcore, so the games more fair with no hud
idk if you know this but games like squad or hell let loose offer this experience as a baseline, so you can get an immersive experience without being at disadvantage from a competitive standpoint. worth checking out!
@@ponymagico4000 yeah but hardcore is pretty much dead :(

7:15 an attempted charge only to be slowed down by serious injuries, forcing you to watch your comrades die before you as you give in to your fear and try to find safety

Your WHAT?
Do you think that in trenches on those violent combats enemy soldiers passes right by eachother because both of them were too scared to pull the trigger or they didnt even see eachother because of the chaos?
Can u imagine someone's head moving as fast as the camera? That person has a better chance of snapping their own neck by turning too quickly than being shot.
Id like to imagine its his eyes than his head, and it would feel more real if the gun didnt follow everywhere he looked.
It's only the gun that makes it feel unreal. Trying turning your head quickly? Pretty fast, huh? If the gun trailed behind, the realism would be much higher.
But those type of games aren’t cool

Rob Ctrc Oh ok yh I'm aware of these youtubers and I watch them sometimes, but I don't remember them mentioning a trench warfare mode, they did however mention trench warfare maps coming
When Life Smacks You In The Face DLC in march
Incredibly, this game was released in 2016, and now I'm launching Battlefield 2042 and I see a crowd of identical Boris on an empty green field and a complete lack of a war atmosphere.
Exactly. When I played the beta I was like "Wtf why is it so colorful? Isn't this supposed to be set in the future with civilization on the brink of war and destruction?" Felt like I was playing a random ass FPS, not a good feeling. Thankfully, people on Portal have found a way to fix that.
@@_u0nda928 lol that battlefield looks like a mobile ripoff of titanfall 2, without the titans
@@TheCapitalWanderer Yeah pretty much. BF1 and BF4 are much better.

What are your thoughts now since its improving a bit?
This game is so beautiful. Removing the HUD makes it look 10x more horrifying. Watching this made things stick out that I never really paid attention to. Like those air bursting artillery shells and the screaming of the dying. Freakin brutal!
I wish more games would be designed to be played this way, without HUD. Including Battlefield. Yes you can turn off the HUD, but you're at major disadvantage because the game was designed to be played HUD on. Minimap is like 60% of the whole game. But if it wasn't, you could play like this always, seems like graphics leap forward 15 years. Immersion is so much better, looks like real life except the twitchy movements that comes from mouse inputs
We don't really think about it, but HUD ruins so much.... but it has become a standard. Such a shame.
@@shredd5705agreed,with no hud in a game like this feels great but can be a disadvantage.
@@sergiomendoza251 Yeah, but if the game was designed from the ground up to be without HUD (or very minimal, only appearing for certain actions like checking how many mags you have by a button press) then it would be same for everyone. It could still have fast respawns, shame that it always has to be a slow ass milsim to have minimal HUD. Battlefield is designed to be HUD reliant, but it wouldn't need to
