Definitely do again.. would like to see you guys do same weight shafts but different flexes blind tested . See if you can notice shaft characteristics easy or not and how it effects your shots and numbers
Great test. Part two should be comparing the stats of each shaft combo, i.e. carry yardages, dispersion, distance, backspin.
Very cool test…I do find the 105/120g shafts are hard to distinguish until you play a full round with them….then you start to feel the 120g v 105g shaft…

Taylor made RSI 2 forged heads KBS tour stiff steel I know they’re a little bit old but had five years off through work So still in good condition and I do love them
That requires a new shaft. You can not use the other shaft as I believe they are tapered.
The stats would’ve really been interesting to see, since this was a totally blind test.
You guys did great, considering there is no standardization in flex. One manufacturers x-stiff flex may be another manufacturers reg. flex. Even within a manufacturer different shafts may have different standards for designated flex.
I bought some used Hogan PTX Pros with XStiff shafts thinking i made a mistake. Couldn't tell a difference between them and the Stiff I already had.
Well....not exactly double blind. I think, technically it's 2 individual single blind, but good study, regardless.
Actually, I think I'm wrong. You guys were both the administrators and subjects, so it was 2 double blind studies.
I know you didn't hit that many balls but it would be interesting to see which shafts you would have chosen to use on a daily basis. Different than what you play now. I played stiff shafts in my driver forever and have gone to an senior flex. Control the ball better and hitting it further. Never would have dreamed that! Hit someones on the range with that setup (also went to 45 gram shaft!) amazed at the results.
The one I hit most consistently during the testing was the DG 115 Mid X.
I would be more curious in a blind test that compared feel to results.
AJ! when I bought 10 shafts, one or two of them is not perfectly straight. I am not telling it is 10 degree bent, but around 98% straight or so. If I dont look at it carefully it is not noticeable. Sometimes a graphite shaft the same. Does it affect the performance? I reckon if I bought a big name brand iron sets off the shelf one or two clubs are with slight bent shafts. It is always me not the club I know. It is better return them or just make a set and blame myself? What is your opinion AJ
Many shafts can have a very small amount of residual bend but if you can see it with the naked eye, it's too much in my opinion. I would return them and get shafts that look straight. Golf is hard enough without bent shafts.

AJ, is there a way you can tell me how to remove the connecting screw inside driver head to shaft? Mine is acting stripped and wont go into my new shaft.
You can just use a wood dowel or pencil eraser side and push the tip of the screw out while using the wrench to unscrew it from the washer that holds it in place.

If you have a lighter shaft but increase the headweight would it balance out more?
And can you try a lightweight extra stiff?
What do you mean by balance out more?
A 90g graphite xstiff vs 120gxstiff but with adjusted swingweight for the lighter shaft.
Can u make a light shaft feel heavy?
@@burmeister5 We can add head weight to the 90g setup to bring the swing weight up and give more of that feel.
Sorry to ask a stupid question, but I have just broke my 8 iron The question is can I take my five iron shaft, cut it down and use it in my 8 iron without messing it up. Or is it better to buy an uncut shaft? and cut that one down Thank you
What brand and model are the heads? That will determine the answer.
Were the numbers wildly different?
I had some changes in trajectory and we maybe saw 5 yards. Honestly we didn't hit enough with each to really get good shot data. This was more feel based.
