DavijoMan I wouldn't have minded if there was no voice acting. But voice acting does make the game more appealing to me and adds more weight to emotion of the scenes.

Dragon Quest VIII remains my favorite DQ game and RPG of all time. Really glad that they are making these small changes, but still keeping the game true to its origins. Can't wait for the release!

It's tactical positioning for holiday sales, honestly. That and avoiding the behemoths that release in November and October. Notice how even Call of Duty is avoiding Red Dead Redemption 2's release date.
As a lifelong fan of Dragon Quest this has me BEYOND hyped. Dragon Warrior 4 was one of my first RPGs (along with FF1 and original Zelda) and I played it with my Dad when I was about 5. I have played (and beaten) all of the main series but DQX (due to not coming to the US and being an MMORPG). God, this is gonna be awesome and I cannot wait.

I cannot agree more. Was so sad to see the FF7 remake was gonna use that garbage action combat system. How hard would it be to just let us choose? If you wanna play Zelda like combat, cool. If you want original JRPG turn based, also cool.
Graphics great, story, looks good, voice acting, hells yeah. Midi music.... Lame, don't defend it, it should be orchestrated. I'm Still getting it, but it's just so unfitting to have midi's blaring at you while voice acting and realistic sound effects are going on. DQ8's orchestrated soundtrack was an amazing example of how amazing DQ music can be, and to go back to midi's in 2018 is just very disappointing ='(
Yes! I love these new additions I finished the Japanese version and I always wanted to hear how the characters would sound and get to know the full story of this amazing game
adding a run button is awesome, not cos you get there faster but because for some reason I feel super comfortable being able to have that and it feels weird and bad not to have it. first person sounds awesome though, beautiful world and now you can really immerse in it
I remember in the Japanese version I took so much screenshots of the landscapes I was exploring in. Now I'm able to do so in first person thank you Square Enix
So there you go. And here in Germany we get the English voice and along with it translated German speech bubbles. Only problem is: they translated names of characters/mobs and locations as well. So the English voice over tells you to visit A while the German text says visit B. It is so wired to play when voice and text don't match up. And you can't even switch the text language. If you play on PC you at least can edit an ini file per hand...
RedValkyrie 84 welcome and enjoy your stay! I have to recommend Heroes 2 if you see it on offer while waiting for eleven. And a general tip for you in DQ is don't focus everything on one aspect of a party, i.e 4 healers.
Awesome. I love the classic turn-based action games. I just wish there would be one with a more darker/mature aesthetic. Love that Dragon Quest aren't breaking their distinct game style though... Just would love more game developers to take a page out of their book!!
We need more games like this! I miss the intimacy and challenge that comes with these sort of games. So glad someone has the nuggets to release a turn based game like this on ps4. I like a lot of newer games but "new" and "different" don't mean better in my opinion.

Awesome! DQ heroes 1 and 2 were nice spinoffs, but there hasn't been a mainstream console entry since DQ8 (cursed king). Which, btw, was EXCELLENT. And deserves a re-release for ps4.
This is the only game I did preorder. I know it won't disappoint. Been a fan since I accidentally played the 7th on my PSone. Played all the rest except 10.
Unfortunately it won't happen. The composer is apparently a really big deal in Japan, and he doesn't like the US much at all apparently. He did it for DQ8, sure but that was in 2005 and he probably didn't dislike them so much by that point.
Dragon Quest VIII's voice acting is beautifully done.. Oh I love hearing the Cockney accent from one if your henchmen.. Sorry can't remember the name.. Been a while since I played it from PS2

After Ni No Kuni 2 setting the bar of JRPG standarts for the PS4 really really high, Dragon Quest XI has to deliver ALOT to compete with that. Before people lynch me, I love and adore BOTH franchises and I'm just genuinly curious of how DQXI will fare against NNK2.

I'm really glad they're pulling a Dragon Quest VIII with this, going above and beyond with the localization. Not having voice acting was a big turn off for me (and apparently quite a few others,) and I personally dislike the minimalist styled menus. Having a faster run button looks like it may be a godsend with how vast some of these maps seem to be.
I recommend this, those that have a PS4 , please buy Dragon Quest 11. Those on the Switch will have to wait but please get it when it comes out. we need more DQ in the West.

This game isn't being made by Level 5, though. That said, I agree that 2018 is shaping up to be a worthy successor to 2017 (at least in terms of gaming).

That's not why the JP version lacks voice acting. They wanted to keep it traditional and it was easier to make any story changes without voice acting. I played through the JP version last year, it was fantastic.

You could download a ds emulator on your computer or phone and play dragon Quest 9. I'm playing it now and it's really fun and addictive.

First DQ game was VII on PSOne. The first game I bought when I moved to Alaska. Never beat that but did finish IX on DS.

The requirement for me buying this game is the implementation of the hard mode. Very happy to see a faster run added.

they should add a turbo/speed option for the battle animations so you do them faster (if there isn't already)
