      I'm in a situation where I got the game on PS4(as I found myself owning one due to uniquely situational reasons) but the day it's out on Switch in the west is the day another PS4 hits the used console market.
      Also sincerely, if you can afford it on PC it might be worth considering either ways. Or at least consider it as a gift for friends who might be able to play it on PC while you wait for your own Switch version. The game *deserve* to be better known and if it doesn't sells, I fear it'll be the end of it for the franchise in the west :/

    The thing about Dragon Quest, it's like living in a fairy tale, which is something that was established all the way back with the first entry on the NES. Dragon Quest is a guarantee, comfort food if you will. While the earlier games in the series were really difficult, the later games are well better paced and that's one thing I've loved about XI. The Pacing.
    It feels like no part of the game in the 45 hours I've played so far has over stayed it's welcome. Cut scene's get the point across. They develop characters, the plot, and move along. I think the characters are some of the best in the entire series. I've loved all of them. The voice work is superb, which is a rarity in Japanese localized products...except for that mermaid, she kind of annoyed me a bit.
    Anyways. I've played and beaten every main entry in the series, some multiple times. So for someone like me DQ 11 has been an absolute treat because it takes everything the series is, improves on it, and keeps it interesting. I love this game!

      since the release of the game I play in draconian mode but only the option that makes the fight difficult and more complex, and believe me my friend ,is a pure pleasure to play like that I'm at 36 hours of playing and I all just beat the kraken and I felt so proud after killing him caus with draconian mode it's so difficult ,so i give you advise try play the game with draconian mode and your experience will change,the game become better with this option

    • @baalfgames5318
      @baalfgames5318 6 лет назад +1

      Honestly, you shouldn't throw around Comfort food like it's an absolute. I mean, I don't know enough about this game, but if it's another one of those stories were basically everything that isn't human is evil, then that is my definition of rotten food. I know I say this a lot, but I feel like people really need to see why that's a problem. So I have to ask, does this game do exactly as I described, or is there actually the idea that humans aren't these perfect creatures and only they are capable of good intentions?

    • @realevostevo
      @realevostevo 6 лет назад +4

      Mugo Urth Oh no, the Dragon Quest series isn't like that. In fact, in Dragon Quest 5 you can recruit monsters you defeat. In Dragon Quest 8 there's even a village of friendly monsters so the series isn't built around such a black and white approach to good and evil.

    • @muhsetio
      @muhsetio 6 лет назад

      @@baalfgames5318 Basically, you're scared that this game will be shallow in stories like ni no kuni 2 right? Where its just usual evil vs bad like game for a child.
      Then no. Its not like that. Stories of DQ is deep, have lot of twist. What makes it different is how they presented the story in a calm, perfect pace that make you understand the point little by little while you relaxed, like reading a storybook. Not jumping into conclusion so fast.

    • @baalfgames5318
      @baalfgames5318 6 лет назад +1

      @@muhsetio no, that wasn't my worry at all. My concern is how does this game portray life outside the human race? Is there non-human life that can show compassion towards other life? Are there monsters that can form a bond with the main characters? Is there none human life that actually helps the main characters in their battle against the antagonist or other forms of wrongdoing? Or do non humans exist purely to destroy humans, are only capable of Destruction and show no signs that any life outside the oh-so perfect human race can have any good intentions? Are there actually good non humans in this game that don't eventually die or turn evil? For are the extent of "non-human" Goodguys limited elves or humans with cat ears? That is what I am worried about.
      Generic Good vs Evil stories I can tolerate. What I cannot tolerate is this blind narcissism humans have consumed themselves with that causes them to believe only they are important to this world, that only humans can do good and that all other life exist either as a nuisance or as an object. Humans are rapidly going down this path, and media that does exactly as I explained isn't helping. That is what I want to know: Does Dragon Quest 11 do anything to dispel the idea that humans are the absolute good.

    This game is absolutely amazing, my first Dragon Quest game and what a delight it is. The beginning is slow as per usual in JRPGS but this game does have a few very interesting twists and turns, im 50 hours in and i still feel a long looong way from the ending of this game.
    The attention to detail is one of the things that amazes me the most, be it from someone cooking food and the food actually moves when they swirl the frying pan to the copious amounts of diffrent death animations for the monsters in the world, among other things. A definite recommendation.

      Ha, ha, that's actually kind of funny. Back in the 90's I think it was, they had to pass a law in Japan stating that video games couldn't be released on Mondays, or something like that. I heard it had to do with...Dragon Quest 3 I think....or maybe it was Dragon Quest 5. Basically, so many people skipped work to pick up the game which launched on a Monday and it was a problem.

    Got this as a Christmas gift. One of the best gifts that I've ever received. Grew up on Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy games in the late 80s and early 90s. Nostalgia and pure enjoyment is what this game truly is for me. As a table top D&D player and old school console gamer of yesterday, Dragon Warrior (Quest in Japan) was my jam. So happy that they took their time and released this properly instead of the money grabs like Fallout 76 and Star Wars Battlefront. I got burned on both of those games. Great review and is the staycation I was looking forward to.

    I loved feeling rewarded for paying attention, I make sure I talk to everyone I can, and take in the scenery, whenever I tackle a side quest and they want me to go to someone or somewhere, I already know what they are talking about, and I can just go like "Oh yeah I can do that no problem" where as with bigger bloatier open worlds people often refer to things in quests that I haven't seen or am not aware of, and I just accept it, and run around for a bit can't find it and either give up, or look up where I have to go if there's no quest pointer, but with Dragon Quest I wouldn't even need one and I love it

    this is an absolute gem of a game i just love it im only bout 20 hours in but its been a great ride so far and the story although not very original is executed perfectly. its about time we had a proper rpg that is turn based and made by aaa studio with production values to match btw i spent at least 5 of those hours in the casino lol last time i had a game i enjoyed this much was lost odyssey and i have to say this tops it.

    Dragon Quest 11 does something that few games actually do well; It introduces new and exciting mechanics, such as crafting items and riding monsters, while still keeping the original formula and not messing with what makes the Dragon Quest series so damn grand in the first place.
    One of many, many, many, MANY reasons why this game is so absolutely stellar.
    EDIT: Bonus points for mentioning Persona, my OTHER other favourite JRPG series.

      DQXI isn't a radical departure from VIII but I was referring to the quality of the storylines and their emotional content. DQ XI can have all of this decade's most modern features and minigames abound, but VIII was not only a more difficult game, it was a much more compelling universe.

    Slow going, but surely and steadily it builds up very well as the story progresses, and as you play through the latter half it gradually makes you realize it was worth it all along. It gets really good.
    That sure-footedness, patience, and the craft that's gone into it is such a rare thing in today's gaming. I like how it streads the thin line between the old and new, I think it's the last of its kind in the big budget category. When this series is gone, this category of craft is forever gone from gaming. Long live DQ!

    I fell in love with JRPGs from the trails in the sky series, followed by Trails of cold steel, all on PC. Needless to say I've only recently truly discovered the JRPG genre (I mean outside of Zelda, and FF series from childhood) and I can't get enough of it in the modern era of it. This game was everything I could have hoped for!

    • @Evanz111

      D Will I can’t recommend Trails of Cold Steel to people enough. No game has ever made me care about characters or the plot as much as that game has.

    • @Dxwill10
      @Dxwill10 6 лет назад

      I know man, I've recommended it a lot but.. it's a hard sell around here in the west. Outside of the Zelda and FF games, it's just not a huge genre over here.
      I loved trails in the sky but.. I'm a minority in that I enjoyed trails of cold steel more. I can't even pinpoint why or how.. the characters were all awesome (except Machias, he gets less intolerable if you do his bonding events but otherwise...I kept him around in my party bc his Burst Drive was just too good), and I loved Rean. I don't know why! He's nothing special, in fact he's a supremely great example of a stock anime hero. I don't care, I named my Dragon quest 11 hero Rean! Why did I do that?! I might as well named him Link, or, My Dude. Anyway, yea, trails of cold steel is what truly solidified my obsession with JRPGs. It's a freaking masterpiece, and I get genuinely sad when I think about how long we still have to wait for cold steel 3, let alone 4! I've actually considered learning Japanese just to play those games ha

    If you like RPGs definitely worth. The only two things you can really criticize are a generic story and the music. Game-play, UI and menus are the best in the series. There are options everywhere and nothing is permanent unlike in previous games so if you want to change or build you can without feeling like you screwed up. Likable cast, varied game-play and strategy options, and a wealth of content make the game more than worth it.

    One note: near the end, you say it's set in an open-world, but the game is not at all set in an open-world. It's a very linear world instead, in fact. If we call this one open world, we might as well call every game the same.
