Long Live Mr. Clifford Lee Burton \m/
VoraciousSouls95 love you cliff
Lee Burton lives on and this song...is a work of art.
This is art. You really need to take the time and listen to really appreciate it.
I mean its pretty easy to listen to its not death metal or anything
+Industrial Grade Ramen to apreciate the beauty..
A Ryan Yeah. It's perhaps the greatest modern piece of music. It's only voluntarily contagious.
This song isn’t that deep mate.
NorthTimo All art is subjective. This song does have its own internal layers, largely as a piece dedicated to the life, death and legacy of Cliff Burton. That alone gives it depth. It depends on how deeply you are connected to the history of the band and to the influence of Cliff Burton. For me, Metallica changed my little teenage world about 30 years ago and Cliff inspired me to pick up a guitar. To this day, me, several friends (some of whom went on to be professional musicians), and even now my kids, all play music, in large part, because we were influenced by this band, and by Cliff Burton in particular. They are the Beatles, the Hendrix, the Stones, and the Zepplin of our era. “The song’s not that deep,” on a certain level that’s true. But for those of us who have literally grown up with this band as a constant companion to every phase of our lives, now in our 40’s and 50’s, it’s deep...for us.
Lars just sitting there eating a banana, the "I HAVE A MIIC" shit had me dead
Wait, who was this filmed by again?
probably some jackass
probably some jackass
probably some jackass

Zer0 12 i was filming it with my cat
Dear god....this was heavenly. What I would have done to see them play this live. Great performance! (as per usual of course) \m/
Rule of 2 Review I
What you would have done? They’re still touring bro I’ve seen them every year in December for the past 7 years. And I’m going again this year
They sucked
@@pisellonzo you're jealous
@@pisellonzolike ur mom last night😂😮
among my top 5 metallica songs. when you look at their repertoire this is also among the most underrated songs. (my subjective opinion)
Lukas T I think it's their best. So no arguement going top 5.
to live is to die
master of puppets
one
*iinsert anything else. it's subjective
My top 5:Orion, Master of Puppets, Ktulu, Blackened, Shortest Straw, 2 live is 2 die, Sanitarium, Seek &Destroy, Whiplash, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Fade 2 Black, Creeping Death, Dyers Eve, And Justice for All, Frayed Ends of Sanity, Ride the Lighting, oops, sorry that's more than 5. Honestly, you just can't go wrong with their first 4 albums.
Same here!
When both guitars play together the main riff is so sick! Sounds extremely powerful
Can't believe we are approaching Metallica's 40th anniversary in 2-3 years.. hope all the band members remains healthy and fit!
People want to hate 15 seconds of 9 minutes of awesome.
Crazy.
15 years till they played this.
Great solo. In the right key.
Clowns.
speak english
JoshLikeCrazy a solo "15 seconds". isn't as impactful as 9 minutes "the length of this song".
you think your snark is funny?. try again.

It's a shame they don't play this live regularly. Obviously it shows. But anyway songs like this are just genius - most of this album is simply genius. Not hard to see why Metallica are the biggest metal band in the world. I still love this album and it's the benchmark still after nearly 30 years.
That melodic central break... got me chills everytime ... RIP Cliff, to live is to die!
Still chills
Why are people fucking complaining all the fucking time? They are not 20 they are 50 +and fucking breathing. They are legends. Never look down on your legends. It's their way to play this song, it's theirs song not yours. This song was a tribute to dear Cliff Burton.
+Ruben Fernandez parada .....and its great to hear the bass
Give this man beer. You are completely right.
you are right my friend
agree
well said !¡
Rest In Peace, Clifford Lee Burton!
Kinda dug the new spin Kirk put on the solo's...Don't get why everyone's so bent. It's a live performance for fucks sake we have the record at home. And it's not even like it was that different. I'd also like to add in case you were wondering the middle part is what separates Metallica
I think just like you...they are different 'cause they don't give a fuck for the regular choices!
I prefer when they change it up a little live. If wanted to hear the way it was recorded I would have stayed at home and listened to the album.
the only part I didn't like is right before they went back to the main riff when the spoken words are, kirk was way off in his notes. it sounded awful. other than that it was sweet
Mike Mondragon It's not a legitimate Metallica show unless Kirk fucks some parts up. lol
David Mason that is the most accurate description I've ever heard for any metallica show lol
Absolutely genius this track. Reminds me of classical music in the different layers and harmonics
Look I can forgive Kirk for not playing the solos the same way they were and Lars for watering down the drums but why the hell did James not play his solo? It's the best part of the song and it made this a bit dissapointing.
He doesn't like playing solos as much as he likes writing them and other than that he's more known for his rhythm playing anyway.
If he had to only remember this one thing all week (playing all his leads in TLITD) he probably would've done it himself, but as you know he also has to sing all the lyrics, play rhythm and as you know or might not know Metallica played a completely different setlist on every one of those 4 anniversary shows that week (total of 78 different songs, and a bunch of never played songs) so you probably can imagine that his head was spinning around enough with just getting all the lyrics and rhythms right.
One can learn ( he han relearn) this song in less than 1 hour. Rhythms are not difficult, there are no lyrics and his solo and harmonies all sound great but they're pretty simple. So that's no excuse. Playing (and remembering) something like FEoS would be tough, not this.
Walamonga 1313 I'd like to see you have a musical career of 30+ years and remember everything in your catalog for an anniversary show. Until you do you have no room to complain.
If they played this, they could have played it right. If they don't even know how to play their own songs, why bother? They could've replaced it.
Its something they wanted to suprise the fans with
7:50 Loving that key change

Слушаю Metallica с 1996 года, дай Бог им здоровья и творческого долголетия!
Those 244 people should go and watch this again cause that was beautiful.
My favorite band for all my teen and adult life, I’m 48 and I still love the sound of METALLICA!
I'd be more worried if they were never alowed and never made mistakes like this.. Seeing one of the biggests bands screw up a little is good.. means rookies like us can screw up sometimes and not get super freaked out about it... and continue as though nothing happened like the pros do.
Vanadeo where is the mistake??? i didnt notice.
Kei Synester
Kirks solo
Marc D the way it sounded... That's wasn't mistake at all. That was pure greatness of improvisation.
Sounds good to me
Yeah, Kirk screwed up quite a few times, but the first time, someone was talking to him and so he probably couldn't fully focus. Besides, Kirk has a ton of different melodies that he has to remember in this song, on top of playing both solos.
Watching this song Live makes me so happy, and you can clearly hear the bass, just wonderful
Thanks for the upload. A lot of memories resurface when hearing this tune. Great piece of music and really nice to get to hear it in a live format. Cheers!
the feels when kirk look at lars at 5:34, how can u not cry...
John Walter yeah and still the people talk shit about Kirk
You realise he does this because Lars is fucking up? It's not some emotional bullshit ffs.
@@samsid3701 Mmm no, at that moment, when Kirk turns to the drums, Lars doesn't even pay attention to Kirk. Kirk really reacts to the people ;)
I cry
"James' worst nightmare! I have a mic..."
-Lars Ulrich xD
The 6 min mark gives me chills every time I hear it!!
5:35
Man, u so lucky to capture this for everyone. Apparently they dont play this live often at all. Best instrumental they made. Pretty spot on too. Thank you.
7:23 - 8:16 Just two friends playing guitar together, paying tribute to their friend. Beautiful.
also the way they look at each other at 7:50 is so precious
my dream come true!!!
Im listening on my computer and Im crying. How james and others cannot cry? Its so hard to cant stand that and think. We really missed you Cliff really and I know you see us and hear us. İf ı had a chance to see cliff burton ı would give my everyting.
Rest In Peace Ciff..
thanks fothermucker this is amazing
thank you for recording!!!
They were so teasing Helpless at the start...
Thought I was the only one who knew the song
Alden Cooke yeah because you don't know other 100 songs
andrei sabogal what is that even supposed to mean lol
no they were not.. Kirk was praticing the volume swell for the middle of the song and he still fucked up
Hard to believe that this is the first time they played this live
They did in Seattle... But much shorter...
Thanks for the reply man!
just appreciate that we got this performance and we still have tallica rocking out
This sucks!!!...They didn't play it the way I envisioned and they didn't do it exactly like the studio album!!!!......Just kidding....Spoiled brats on here with their quick access to live performances on a computer and judging like they were on chairs on the show The Voice.
Preach it man
true man..
ryan49er1 you're right man well put well put I recant my negative comment \..../\m/
people have an emotional relationship with Metallica's music. It doesnt take a spoiled brat to question why they skipped the intro, or why Lars + Kirk arent even trying to play it right. It could be ok if they were virtuoso players who could improv BETTER material.. i dont feel they are tho. I played in bands, very small time but we cared about playing our own material rightl. It feels like some of the band members have less respect for their own music than we the fans do.
Kirk Hammett never does it like the studio. Some times it sucks, but some times it's, I don't wanna say it's better, but it is better for that shows atmosphere.
There're two more things. Second is that the material is so complicated that they're not comfortable to do it exactly like the studio. First is that the guitars and phases need to retune for some parts.
I'd been in Metallica live just one time in turkey and it is no comparable with other bands. Absolutely high quality and lots of fun. But as you said it does matter when we watch it on RUclips.
the intro :'(
The fact that they played this song is already very rare and you say "the intro" hahah :(
i mean why not do the whole thing if you could right?
How would they they would need to drummers and James needs to play the intro soooooo
The intro wasn't the issue. It was how the middle section was played
YES THEIS WAS THE VERSION I WS LOOKING FOR
AWESOME VIDEOS YOU HAVE! i like how you have managed to get great sounds on all your video's!
Rest In Peace, Cliff Burton!
this was the time when Kirk wrote his lead parts without a whammy bar
the fuck are you talking about he used his whammy bar back then too lol...
Nicolas Villamil ha ha
you mean wah lol
Novander sorry yup I wrote whammy I meant his bloody idiotic and irritating wah pedal
But he's always used wah just not as much as nowadays
great job, Kirk! Just superb :) Absolutely mad play set for that weekend and that one really a crown jewel :)
What are you talking about?! What is superb do you think? Have you listened to the original track?
Kirk is terrible here. He has spoiled one of the greatest melodies ever created. The solo he begins to play at 6:43 is spoiled just because of mistake. He couldn't solve it in time and so has played some shit!!!
Сергей Капустин which one of your questions you want to be answered first? It looks like you don't even need any answers, right? :) Can I mention that all that instrumental is in fact one big solo guitar player's performance (ok, let's get rid of Kirk, I've got it, he bothers you, God bless Dave and etc.)? This song hasn't EVER been played live till the day of this record, the original has been recorded almost 24 years ago, the sound effect in the "solo" you mentioned (it isn't really a solo, just a supporting back effect) is quite special - under those conditions it has been quite of a chance for some spoilers. Kirk made the minimum damage, I guess. Two real solos were almost perfect. I would rather call a spoiler the sound of James' guitar, in some moments it's just awful.
I just love the sound of James' guitar. The clean sound is really cool.
When they do harmonies live, I always miss the power cords of the third guitar. It just sounds empty with only the bass behind it.
Marcus Cross i think same with you...
Totally agreed!
Marcus Cross true
They sould play only one of the two parts of the harmony while the other guitar plays the cords
Then It wouldn't be an Harmony anymore
89 people don't know what real music is
93... Sigh
This was always my favourite Metallica instrumental, and it sounds absolutely fucking amazing live
this song always seems to put me at peace with myself
Just a bit too fast. Just a bit...
No. Corse it's fast live. Always fast live :)
I thought so to
hey give them some slack the didnt do this song since 1989
Waaaaay too fast
Hey there hippy chix
Heavy and epic
Always forget how great this song is, well done!
man... i'm in tears..
I'm so disappointed that Kirk improvised the first solo and totally changed the second solo. The original solos are what gives the song the feel that it has.
Virgil G He's in his 50's. He can't do everything perfectly.
John reed we can argue about tons of guitarists that are better at their 50 than their 20 30,kirk butchered it totally, its a shame to do that to a song that cliff had his last credits
John reed It's not that hard of a solo to play. His age isn't an excuse to why he didn't play the original solos.
I've thought about this some, and a lot of Kirk's "sloppiness" started in the mid 2000's when they started playing different sets every night. Before that they usually played the same set the entire tour with a few songs swapped out here or there... It's a lot to expect him to remember every solo note for note, and all considering he does a pretty good job of it. If you notice, the songs that tend to be in the set most nights he tends to nail.
Ben Daniel Its not hard for him to just listen to the track and brush up on that solo. Its a very easy solo to play.
Well, the closet stood about 3 inches wrong to the left. The Tallica boys came up and put it at the right position.
This is so awesome. Orion evokes a fired up feeling but this instrumental is very emotional and evokes a sense of loss and sadness and bittersweet feelings. I love it.
This recording is fothermucking good
im sorry for that comment but Kirk's solo at 06:48 Was so funny...
James Kirk Lars Back to Seattle 89
Don't forget the boss - JASON fucking NEWSTED
WOW 1st time ive ever heard this live.... Its awesome.
They have this song and played it very rare like dont even care about it.
If belongs to any other band will be in every setlist.
Metallica’s level is from another planet.
Meanwhile, Rob's bass parts sound great!
Kirk takes both the solos,I'm pretty sure James plays the second one his are usually more soulful and melodic even if it's rare that he plays them;NEM,one in Orion and the first one in Puppets are all I can remember but I'm sure someone else knows more
james also plays the solo in nothing else matters :)
insidethemindofevil also the solo in ecstasy of gold
Thanks for clearing that up,I don't know why I didn't get around to it
Yeah, James doesn't like playing solos as much as writing them and on top of that he was probably trying to keep his main focus on all the lyrics (they played a completely different set every night bar the closing track which was always S&D) and rhythms he had to sing/play that night.
WHO doesn't want to hear this song. No one.
What I love the most is the intro to little wing!!! Next to to live is to die my favorite song!!!
Holy shit! They did a great job glad to finally hear it live. And I knew about the Justice Tour one I'm surprised it wasn't played in full there.
last will of cliff .. say hi cliff.
Kirk I was trying to air guitar to the solo and you played something completely different! What the damn hell was that?!
Really good recordings this !!!
Such a beautiful song
Damn I love this band. I love every song that they've ever recorded. Load, ReLoad, and St. Anger included. In my opinion, they're the biggest and greatest metal band ever. But fucking hell when I listen to some of their live sets they look tired. I get the feeling that Lars only remotely knows what song they're playing. James isn't as emotional about the songs because he's playing them all fifty million times. Kirk tries to improve to bring life into the song but goes way off key...
Rob Knowles they are only human. And now pushing 55....they just can’t give it the way they used to anymore
they kinda fucked it up in many parts :)...no matter, they were probably nervous 'cause they were playing it for the first time...still love them, always will
My favourite part of this video is the watermark. I like not having to wonder who filmed the video; I spend a lot of time while watching youtube videos thinking "I sure wish my view of the content was obscured by a watermark telling me which hack filmed this!" Thanks FotherMucker00, you're a true hero
I would squeal and cry like a 15 year old girl at an Elvis Presley concert in the 50's if they ever played this at a Metallica gig i attended. Jesus.
Jesus Christ Kirk... I don't even know what to say.
High😎
I realize this original comment is 5 years ago but honestly the people that comment on Kirk and Lars are the worst type of person. Grow up.
Duke Silver Really now, huh?
Lars had to fuck it up a bit, and why did Kirk not play the right solos?
Andrew Medina cuz it was live show and its their song.
Great song from the great album....my all time favourite song..
I absolutely love the song, I learned how to play it on guitar when I heard it many years ago and it was the classical intro that was one of the most beautiful parts of the song, they have left that part out of almost every live set and I've been disappointed in a sense every time.
No matter how well they played it I still really wanted to see them do it I its entirety.
Thing is they are good enough to not mess up.
When you are at there level bass player not included.. you are kinda expected to preform.
I'm nowhere near as good or ever will be, but I learned how to play because of these guys are it's like they don't care anymore.
7:14 Censored
Hahahah andry vasilenko reference
Anyone else skip right to the middle?
+Zdawg1029 No. I listen to the songs as a whole.
+PixelzGaming No need, it's common courtesy not to listen to a song for 10 seconds then say the whole band is shit.
+Martti010
I never said the band or the song were shit, did I.
Zdawg1029
nah
Always!
Still rocking ! Awesome !
possibly my fav Metallica song, so under rated
I wouldn't mind Kirk improvising if he actually did it in the right key!
During live shows, they always tune down half a step for the whole set.
I'm aware that they tune down live. I'm talking about Kirk playing notes that have nothing to do with the key they are playing in, whatever key it is at any given time.
Evan. You get up there and do it. Just enjoy
@@whereisevan it is the right key. It was in F
He always uses Dorian no matter what
somebody explain whats happening after 5.25 .is that playback?
yeah!!! what the fuck was that? it seems that Kirk tries to hide that with his fingers but not on time!!!
overdubbed in post, this is not the actual live audio recording from my camera you're hearing on this video.
FotherMucker00 Thanks for clarifying, dude! cheers! and happy new year!
Mariox
You're welcome and happy new year to you aswell Mariox!
I think, it's feature of sound transmission through the camera.
Without a doubt thee best mid guitar section / breakdown. Chills every single time. So beautiful when the clean guitar hits.
Kirks solos on AJFA are my favorites. They are filled with so much finesse and emotions. This album is still my favorite. It challenges the listener like no other metal album.
was kirk's part phoned in?
It can't be he lost his phone
Shit without Jason.
Haha shut up, you literally can't hear the bass in the real version of this song
donangry shit with Cliff Burton
I love you guys, all of you
A celebration of life. Fantastic
Is lars even play the same song?
Yes just, with his TRADİTİONAL way hahah
WTF!!! kirk is playing with track?????? minute 5:27 - 5:30 ??
Or someone else is playing, sounds like it was live playing...
Most likely it was a 3rd guitarist in the back.
Cesar A The sound seems to have been edited on this vid, check out others.
it was edited, i found a video and he mades a mistake there.
Kirk is awful
How you guys got the surprise of a lifetime, mustve been awesuuuummm
Funckin' Sick!!! One of my favorites..
Why isn't James doing the second solo at around 7:00? Isn't it his?
You're right, suppose Kirk can't play with his fingers.
James should have played the solo, as he did it on the record. Kirk just fucked it up.
Metallica is so pure . It's pure and it makes me so proud
Something about a live performance of a rare song makes it new again.
