Hard to beleive a few beer drinkin 25 yr olds from Southern California wrote this legendary piece of music.
Who does Well Cliff wrote some of them they just built a song around it.
Rob Spencer musicians come in many shapes or forms
Satan likes chees cliff just wrote the intro and the interlude
actually it's even crazier. Exhumed archive demo tapes reveal that most of the music for To Live Is To Die was written as early as 1986, if not even before that. So they were even younger than that.
I know this masterpiece it's legendary! METALLICA 🤘🏻
4:11 I'm not crying, I'm just sweating through my eyes
Agreed. This is sex on steroids. Brilliant.
Same here, they made me cry at work damn it ;(

Guilty
4:40 makes you think about Cliff ... makes you wanna weep like a little baby ... makes you feel guilty for all the shit you've done in your life, realizing that life is too damn short ... makes you stronger at the same time ... makes you feel as if you had a hole in your soul, as if something is missing .. for way too long ... makes you realize you've been searching something your whole life, which you still havent found ... makes you feel as if you've lost a very close friend and brother ... now imagine was james, lars and kirk must've felt when they actually lost Cliff
Whoa. Thank you, xabun. I'm honored that this would cause you to think and feel so deeply, and that you would share it. Thank you!

Pathetic.

Even though cliff died so long ago, even before my mom went to middle school, I think I need to pay homage to him one day😔❤️
Cliff used to LOVE classical music, I feel like Cliff would have loved to hear this. This is an absolutely amazing piece of art. Cliff would be proud! R.I.P

I can't rate this any higher.
It's perfect.
Thank you, Sean!
Right!
(yeah ,) it's fuckin perfect! 🔥
I was disappointed in the intro because I mean you can find the Mel Bay book with the exact notes they were playing even for a single guitar version on acoustic yet they were just grazing the cords and not ringing through the notes or playing the entire cord listen to the intro it was very very bad and could have been done way better. The notes simply weren't fully played they were just grazed over I can't believe it yeah it sounded similar because it was the same chords but not even close to the exact quality Metallica did and it really isn't that hard all you have to do is play the full bar and let it ring through properly two guitars can do it so easy like I said Mel Bay has the original sheet music and tablets her to follow and recreate the intro to a T I did in high school with my friend. This just grazed over it like a cover band quickly trying to get it over with. @4:40 my personal favorite part he didn't even play it accurately he just played similar sounding notes in the right chords A minor G minor a minor F major it wasn't the exact same James Hetfield actually played with his fingers. Now I get adding all the strings and stuff to make it pretty is totally okay but the guitar specially on a solo moment should literally play the exact same song not just graze over something similar
This is the most impressive orchestral cover I have EVER seen.... MAJOR RESPECT... AND REST IN PEACE CLIFF BURTON.
Thank you, Chris. LONG LIVE CLIFF!!

The best Metallica riff ever in the best Metallica song ever. Always my favourite part. Amazing.

A testament to Metallica's music. No one could write music like Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammett.

Wow. I was expecting something really cheesy. They respected this song, and when the guy did Cliff’s spoken part, it brought me to tears. The interpretation of this song was so perfect. "WHEN A MAN LIES, HE MURDERS SOME PART OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!!" -What a thrill this was. Long live Mark Wood! Long live MWROC!!!
Those lyrics are from James Hetfield of Metallica!!
The lyrics are actually by Cliff Burton, Metallica's bassist, and the German theologian Paul Gerhardt, but James co-wrote the music,
so don't Lie
You just murdered some part of this world with your lie!!
King Arthur: What is the greatest quality of knighthood? No poetry, just a simple answer.
Merlin: Alright then. Truth! That's it, truth. When a man lies he murders some part of world. You should know that.
Tear always sheds my eye listening to a song without a single lyric. The power of music. Rip Cliff
Serious epicness at 4:10
4:10 Holy moly, that's emotional.
If the people in this performance did nothing else in life but play that piece their life would have been worth it and fulfilled
It certainly was fulfilling to perform!
There’s absolutely no words to describe how phenomenal this is. Absolutely speechless!!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching and listening and commenting!

Thank you, Jeremy. Reactions like your keep us going!
Chuck Bontrager you’re very welcome! Keep up the great work!
Me too man
It's hard to believe this sound could come from a violin! Amazing cover!
I know right!! Mark Wood is incredible, he made the type of electric violins featured in this video called a 'viper'. Every musician in this is already extremely talented but it gives them new ways to express their music. Crazy amazing and revolutionary.
Music Of Sounds I'm sorry, can you elaborate? I don't know what you mean.
Music Of Sounds your previous commends did not relate to the conversation
No, not really. Sorry man. Just because you have different taste doesn't make you better than everyone else.
I never said I was sir. I'm a very young amateur. However, I decided to take a look at your channel and your jazz tune is very nice.
THe most underrated song and the most underrated cover!
Man, I’m literally crying hearing this beautiful composition. You guys truly did a great job bringin emotion to this song. It became more related on the pain Metallica had to suffer without Cliff when the wailing part fell in. Also croed because how much Metallica’s music often been taken for granted.
Many thanks, Helman. So glad you enjoyed it!

For those who died alone
That dudes bow work is legendary!
Thank you for watching and listening!
My only critique would be to have the bookends and interlude riff on guitar down pat note-for-note faithful to the original as they're such crucial parts of the song. Incredible performance otherwise.
You’re spot on here
x2
LordDes - Thank you, I appreciate the honesty, I get what you are saying. But know that at the beginning especially, the guitarist (Rob Bambach) was vamping to cover a set change from the previous song on the program, and it's difficult to ask a guitarist of Rob's talents to play the same thing over and over indefinitely.
Also - there are very few examples of Metallica playing this live, and one of them has a longer solo where Kirk plays stuff that's quite different than the studio cut. It was difficult to get a definite feel for how literal we needed to be. But I get you!
Some criticisms are so minor as to be negligible, this is one of those. If you're looking for album accuracy when fade-ins/outs are involved, you're gonna have a bad time. You wanna tell someone to play Metallica songs correctly, start with Metallica...
Am I the only one crying from this?! Absolutely masterful performance!
Got the chills while listening to this. Absolutely awesome. I would like to imagine that Cliff is playing along in the cosmos somewhere
Many thanks, my friend.

What an amazing time we live in. People are awesome
That was fantastic! I loved the harmonies played with strings. My only complaint, as a guitarist myself, is guitar dude was a bit sloppy with the intro and didn't really play the mellow interlude well. I mean it's easy as hell to finger pick even on electric. It still sounded okay accompanied by the other instruments though. Other than that bravo everyone!
Thought0Ninja I think it was on purpose, that interlude is my favorite Pierce of music ever. So I was frustrated the first time when I heard it was not even similar to the original version. But now I am hearing it again, and I can definetely tell it fits to the song in a different but beautiful way.
Thought0Ninja and satellite
Please forgive my copying from another thread - I absolutely get it - a part of a performance that I don't expect or don't like or just flat-out isn't played well can spoil it for me, too. But it was on purpose.
As we put this arrangement together, we talked about the guitar stuff, and how closely it should stick to the disc, given everything else we were changing (instrumentation, key, added strings, some drum fills). What we decided was for Rob (guitarist) to play what he felt. We have been surprised by the number of comments (and the emotion behind them) about how un-like the disc it turned out, and I think we'll remember that down the road. But please have no doubts - Rob is a monster who can play with anybody, or he wouldn't be on the faculty at this festival.
Stay tuned - we did One this year, with no guitars, three violins, and female vocals. I am sure that will generate some vigorous discussion as well. THANK YOU for your honesty and your willingness to talk about it!
satellite extra thanks to you for your willingness to come back to the video and give the guitar parts fair consideration!
I'm with satellite now as well. I did listen to it multiple times after commenting previously and now knowing it's intentionally done this way ahead of time and expecting it makes me appreciate how it fits now too. So my bad on jumping the gun on that though it was an honest yet knee jerk reaction in the moment. Also I do wholeheartedly agree that a cover should have it's own personality and as a musician myself/massive Met fan I still sometimes forget this. So bravo all around gentlemen!
Thought0Ninja - many thanks, brother.

Thank you! It was Spring of 1989 when I first head this, and it changed my life.
And we never get old ever since Chuck Bontrager lol
Exactly! I have been 18 all this time...🤣
Remember listening to this during when my parents where going through there divorce. Thought this and Dier’s Eve where one long song, a build up to the anger that was smoldering inside me so that was all I took away from it at the time. Revisited this years later and was astounded by how intimate and mournful this song is, their love for a fallen brother bleeding out with each note. Getting older allows us to appreciate something more that we missed the first time around in our haste. This was the best cover of this I’ve heard by a landslide and great care was taken by all to honor a piece of music far more sophisticated than one would have believed possible from 25 year old headbangers. The guitar interlude was and outro were the only two parts that weren’t spot on. Simply amazing
Very insightful, and beautifully written. Thank you for watching!
