Hi John, good morning. Thank you for this notification / video: I use the GS-911 in my workshop on customer bikes, but had not done a software system update on the GS911 unit for several months, so I was not aware of this new feature (adding the SPORT screen and finally being able to turn OFF those self cancelling indicators) which I'm asked about all the time. I've just updated the GS911 software and can now see these options which is simply brilliant. BIG THANK YOU. We still have -11 Deg C here in Germany, so I've not been out this morning and done this to my own GS, but will do so later this week.🙏 As always, your contribution to the biking community is brilliant, well-done !! Kindest Regards Carl (Just The Way It Is)
Great vid thanks. The GS 911 Wifi is indeed an awesome product, I have been using it since 2015 on 6 of my own BMW motorcycles and also on some of my friends... the HEX systematic up dating sytem, their after sales service, their easy and friendly interfacing with GS911 users, is really top class and does work ALWAYS! a truly amazing and must have tool for every BMW Motorrad motorcycle enthusiast!
Thank you John for another great review! I have never commented on you tube before but the repeated mention of “great customer service” did not prove true in my case and I feel strongly others should be aware. You may get “great service” if you are in a power position, I’m sure but not so much when it comes to the rest of us. I’ve purchased and installed the hex ez-can on a 2019 1250GSA and it worked great for a year, the bike was stored for the next 2 years as I was out of the country and when I returned I attempted to upgrade the firmware. The ez-can would not connect to either of 2 computer and 2 provably working data cables. I was going back and forth with HEX tech support, sending all the videos they asked for until eventually they said “unfortunately the unit is broken” and if I want it to work, I should purchase a new one… Granted, I did not expect much but offering a discount on a new product or some gesture of good will would have gone a long way. Instead, as much as I want the GS911, this is not a company I feel I can trust. I have the chain of emails to prove what I described above, no embellishing.
I Love you! I already have the GS 911 and is amazing (you can reset the Suspension, useful after a rebuild, will save you a lotsamoney!) but all the other stuff, will know what to do today!
Fantastic, remove the stupid Comfort Indicator (hate that thing!) Added a lower setting on the Heated grips and activated the sport dash (which is slightly bigger in font than the ADV one, which is good, since i'm getting on a bit!) excellent work as usual, you and Hex 911!@@bennettsbikesocial
Morning John, I’m sat in my local BMW dealership having my R1250GS (sound familiar) MOT’d. I thought I’d ask about the possibility of the dealer making the heated grips and sports dash available for my bike. Their view was that you could only unlock the six stage heated grips if the bike was specified from build with the heated grips and heated seat (mine was grips only). So slightly dejected as it’s too cold for “low” and “high” burns my fingers after five minutes. First world problems I know. Just slightly galling. I guess it’s £360 for the gadget or £9.99 for a set of Amazon silk inner gloves. Keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The best tool is a shop manual. Unfortunately BMW stopped selling all service manuals for all models. No new BMW motorcycle for me. Support the Right to Repair!
I plugged my bike in the other day just to check for any faults and within 5 mins I had 6stage heated grips (but only use 4stages as 100is easily divided by 4) then found the sports dash great bit of kit and yes I do my own maintenance so resetting the dash is easy would recommend people have a good look at the 911it will save you hundreds on almost every service
Hello John, I have a 2023 R18B, my first BMW ever, I love the bike and bought a new GS911 today, I have had the light come on 3 times now to take to a authorized dealer for repairs. All the times was because it passed the service date before the mileage. Anyways I cannot get this thing past the wifi network error, but I did get it registered. Hopefully I figure it out soon.
Great product. Even been able to code out those horrible multi function indicators, switch off the front orange running lights and switch on the central brake light as a daytime running light. This capability is currently in Beta. Bmw told me as well as coding hardware and wiring mods were required to do this.
Have both GS-911 and Motoscan app and obd the latter is much better for on tour. Not tried the sport dash yet but would prefer the standard gs dash over the rs style primary as on the 1300.
I’ve upgraded my 2022 1250 GSA to the sports screen it’s great apart from the bike information screen on my bikes display my wheels are cut off on the screen pic I’ve spoke to hex and they are working on the problem
There is an app (well at least for Android user) that gives you almost the same capabilities as the GS-911, at a fraction of the cost. That app does coding, service resets, live parameter reading (nut not logging), ABS bleeds and some other things. All while not being lock to a fixed number of VIN numbers to the device. The costs for the entire set up that way is about 90 quid (for the app and an approved OBD scanner). For home use it does about everything you could need. Of course the GS-911 can do more, but it also costs 3 times as much.
@@barrydaly2292 Its called Moto Scan, I use it on my bike, it bluetooths to an OBD reader, they do recommend using a particular model, for older BMW's like my 2013 R1200RT you can get an adaptor led from the Bikes round OBD connector to the OBD2 connector. I think full App functionality, OBD reader and lead was about £120, but I have had it for a couple of years, its paid for itself after the first service at home.
Would've been good if they offered the option to buy a single slot instead of a subscription too for non workshops but yeah realistically 10 is probably enough for most DIYers
Hi just double check the non workshop is single purchase if I remember correctly, they now offer a workshop month to month for 12 months, if you don't ant it they default it back to the single "license"
I've got some issues with mine ... Before the April update I had already enabled 5 heated grip settings and the Sport Display on my 2023 F850 GS (Auto Scan is attached to this e-mail). After the April update I tried to code the following functions to my 2023 F850 GS: - Cruise lights front and rear, incl. an increase in tail light brightness to 20% - Engine coolant temperature depending tach redline The GS-911 went correctly though the programming process as indicated by the on-screen messages during and after completion of the process, but the display did not show the expected engine temperature depending redline nor did the cruise lights work after "successful" programming these functions. I re-checked these settings after another auto scan and the GS-911 menu displays these functions as enabled but still they do not actually work on the bike.
I love my wifi version. You reminded me I need to use it more often. I've never asked before but do folks leave these installed on the bike. I know you can ride with it so you can get real-time data, etc. but it would just fit into my S1000RR seat locker. Was afraid of leaving it in as it would likely use some phantom power. Not sure it would be good for the battery. Thoughts?
Great video!! So from what I understood it won’t void the warranty if the GS is still under it if you are only say changing the TFT layout and diagnose ? Right?
Is there a Hex update already which let you turn OFF the indicator brakelight function, at least when the indicator flashes. I've got the rear light functioning as a brakelight now. So ready for step two.
KTM needs to be very worried about these types of devices. I hope that as bike owners become more tech savvy and understand the PC technology on bikes these days, OBD scanners and programmers can add paid features to their own bikes for free
I love my 911 tool . Where my shop is I do not have Wi-Fi so I use an old laptop top with a cable to connect . It is easy to use my biggest complained is only having 10 vin of use.
I’d heard of this bit of kit on forums but never actually seen it. Sports dash is nice but if they manage to “sort “ the integrated indicator brake light issue. which I think maybe what the Hex guy was eluding to, I’d get one. Also made me wonder if they could add the auto suspension lowering function from the 1300 to 1250 too? Triumph are retro adding to Tiger 1200 so maybe?
I changed the battery this august and turns out it wasn't the battery. Does anyone here can tell me if with a GS_911 I can troubleshoot the battery drain I'm currently suffering off (4 days withtout charging/riding will have the battery flat - nothing plugged in, only factory bike - with all options) ?
I'm not sure if you're joking, but to be clear, no, that's not true. The heated grips mod does NOT require a subscription. All software features and functions are available across all devices. The ProUnlimited subscription simply allows you to unlock your device for unlimited VINs (for service functions and maintenance functionality), which is necessary when you run service functions on 10 unique VINs. The Enthusiast license has a 10-VIN slot when it comes to service functions and maintenance functionality - essentially anything under ‘Service Functions’ in the ECU menu so Output Tests, Adaptation/calibrations and configurations.
@@bennettsbikesocial that’s interesting. I tried going through the steps and clicking on heated grips to make the change prompts the creek to upgrade to pro subscription in order to continue.
Brilliant info, will be getting one for sure. You can't compare its value over 10 bikes and 30 years though 😂 Tech will have changed massively in this time 📶📡🛰🚀
The Hex GS-911 is indeed a fantastic piece bit of kit. BUT it is insane that it still can't be linked via a smartphone to the internet. This is incredibly limiting unless one buys a laptop. In this day and age that should not be a prerequisite.
We’ve just ordered one of these. Can you keep the original GS screen and add the lean angle feature or do you have to switch to the full Sport Screen like you get on the XR? Thank you :)
The indicator configuration sounds a bit like an existing solution by Weiser Technik which does work very well. But I do like my GS-911 WiFi edition - I just need another BMW to use it with 😊 P.S. your face at 55" was... disturbing 😂

It works on my F750gs 😊 tried it earlier and now have the sport mode display, it would be cool if we could get the other riding modes. Maybe in the future it might become an option
Were you able to set the sport display as your default, i.e., make it persist even after turning the bike off and on again? The 2023 S1000RR can do this. On my 2022 I keep hitting the jog wheel on the track and sport display disappears.
Yeah, you can’t even set the sport display as the default on the XR, which is where it first appeared. TBH I switched to it for a ride then when I powered off and back on and it went back to the regular display I haven’t been back to it. Might be good on a track day though.
Just to be clear, the GS-911 unlocks the sport screen, and until you decide to use the device to remove it again, it's always on the bike. When starting the bike, the default screen is the standard one, then you navigate to the sport screen by pressing down twice on the bar-mounted button.
The “persist” feature (where your chosen screen layout will remain as your default even after shutting down the bike) is a feature of the bike’s software, so you need to get it updated by BMW. The GS-911 turns features on and off but does not upgrade the bike’s actual operating system - BMW have to do that. Persist is available on the RR but not sure if the latest GS software also has it.
