- Your budget camera probably looks better to your audience than your more expensive "pro" camera. There's something magical about a cheap camera that just works in auto mode and looks great. There's less pressure when you use it, and you can just focus on making good content.

Still loving the BMPCC! Crazy. But the Z30 with 40mm prime was really nice too.
That 40 f2 is nice. Through YT compression it has the nicest midtone delicacy (micro contrast) of the group.

Agree with your nikon z30. Beast of thingy . Bought as a easy backup for backup and just love the ease of use and pic quality, colour and everything else. Can write a book on the thingy. For the price unbeatable. Even wildlife with 400f4 nikon.

Mix pre-3 is the best I use it all the time and if you decide to buy the noise assist plug-in you won't regret it but it is $300. The best thing about the audio interfaces that technically it's a field recorder so if you ever want to do this show on the road where you answer questions you could just need to bring a battery bank.
Bro! You now own the ENTIRE cinema, and we must fight you for any possible hope of replicating what you have mastered! The Z30 with the Nikon 40/2 and Sennie 416 is top-notch on every level. My CC is going to be taking a big hit.

The mkh416 is by far the best mic. Couldn’t believe it was such a difference when I heard the change.
Same, I came from the ME66 and upgraded to the 416 and was blown away, love that thing.
Wait till you guys try out the MKH50. Sounds even better than the 416 IMO, especially indoors.
The MixPre preamps are top notch. That's a really nice gift.
Most vlogger folks are gonna buy a Pocket 3 and be done with it.

LOL, no camera in the world can fix poorly lit scenes.
But a damn good lens and the right settings can make the difference, does not matter if its shot on a GH2 or Sony A7s3
@@SMGJohn did you ever had an A7Siii in your hands? I owned the ZVE1 with a Tamron 20-40 2.8. And compared to my G9, this Sony can see in the dark. And there is no comparisson to the ZV1... There is a huuuuge difference when it come to lighting and cameras/lenses.

I sold the Sony because I didnt like the colors and the stabe. But the light sensivity was incredible.
So basically youre saying a Sony RX100 VII will perform in dim light same good or bad like a A7Siii. Is that what youre sayin?

Or you could go panasonic G9II, load a good (paid) film emulation lut via their Real time lut feature, and now you have your "film simulation" in a panasonic body

Hi Kasey - Thanks for your great videos. I’ve been a fan for years. I am wondering if you can suggest a lens for birding videos. I have a Sony zv-e10. I want to take videos and photos to prove to the birding community that I actually saw the birds I claimed to have seen (they are doubtful). For Sony aps-c, do you think the tamron 18-300 (27-450 ff equiv.) would be ok? Or do I need something longer?

That z30 image looks like it could use a little softening in my opinion. Happy to see a test of the 40mm f2! I’m sure you will investigate it’s 3d popping abilities soon
I think it’s the bokeh. R8 is full frame and therefore the 40mm f2 on the Nikon aps-c is like almost equivalent to the canon stopped down to f4
@@18yearsoldnotthat could be it. Probably was just jarring switching to it from the canon EF 85mm f1.2, which I don’t think was ever considered a super sharp lens.

I'm so happy for you that you have a mixpre3, they're so great. The limiters in the mixpre3 are fantastic, as are the microphone preamps. Just carry it with you in a fanny pack.
I'm surprised by the 8 bit supremacy of the Nikon z30, especially with the 40mm lens. The OG pocket of course looks great, I'm not a huge fan of the yellow Canons. Super blurred backgrounds have always been overrated, from the time the Nikon d90 (Nikon was first!) came with video. I'm waiting for an updated Z6 with some trickle down Z8 features as a long time Nikon/Pannyboy aficionado.

To me, the best, and sounding the same, are the e935 and MD 46.

All 3 dynamic handheld mics sounded great. The shotgun condensers sounded a bit meh to me. The MixPre3 is amazing!
The e945 sounded shweet.
Between the z30 and eos R, which one wd u recommend.

This is the best way to audition them though. As you probably noticed- mics sound different depending on the preamp used just like speakers sound different depending on the amp they're hooked up to

I didn’t notice much difference in microphones and I’m listening through headphones. It’s hard to focus on the tone when the jokes are so engaging lol

Definitely the 935 sounds the best 🤣 They're all very similar though.
The Nikon is some good kit, excellent colours straight out of camera. No fiddly editing or colour grading required 👍
Did the MKH 416 had the darkest background? I tend to think so.
I downgraded to t3i with 50mm f1.8 from a7iii with 28-75mm

Literally selling my A7sIII because it's just so much easier to use my pocket three now and 99% of people can't tell the quality difference anyway LOL.
The R8 looks a little green compared to the Nikon. But the RF 50mm F/1.8 was the most pleasing. First world problems! The mics all sound good, but I'm listening on my phone without a headset. I'll have to re-view it later.
How would you explain Nikon having the better color science? What are the parameters you judge by?

To me the Canon R8 looks washed out and not exactly blurry but lacking in detail - very obvious when next to the Z30. Is that how you see it - and if so, what is causing it? / Thanks
Tbf, all the mics were fine, though the 945 and on were definitely better.. but you could probably overcome that by auditioning preamps, particularly the nice rack-mount models.. I've been through some of that in musician land. Dynamic mics can also be altered with input impedance, not to mention rack-mounted includes hi-fi valve models..
But none of it matters without good content.
Them Nikons look like they've got too much clarity contrast baked in. Do they have a less molested profile?
Got the Nikkor z 24 1.7 for my Z30, pretty sweet deal
Fuji X-S20 is quite nice camera for family/hobby video - handheld, not walking, static with no or slow panning - super stable, even when 16-80mm is zoomed-in at 80mm. Only it looses focus when zooming in/out, but that would be annoying to do in videos even if it was not loosing focus. Downside is overheating, that various people report. Didn't happen to me for my short videos, yet.
Your Nikon kit lens has a smudge on the top right of the image (14:15) and now I have a thumbprint on my laptop screen.

You can also use selfie stick, they are free in nature. Just take any stick... take it! TAAAAKE IT! And then you can use some tape or something to stick your camera on it. No need for tripods or quatrodomes...
I will NEVER shut up about the Sony X3000. Still among the greatest ever made. I'm using it more often now over my other more expensive options. 📽

@@basharatali9946 Outdoors from dawn til dusk with the correct settings I'd say it still competes with many of the modern action cams. The newer ones with bigger sensors look better indoors and at night.

I don't know if you've used it before, try the Zeiss Batis 18mm 2.8 for vlogging. Yes it's a little on the wide end, but I love that lens.

G9 was down to $650 new with the 12-60 crap lens, but sell that for $150-250 and it's a $400-500 camera in 2024. I'm going to suffer the autofocus for a stills only cam.

I don't know if cheaper cameras are entirely better than expensive ones, but they are better in several ways. Less expensive cameras are much better at saving you money, and the end resulting image of both is so unnoticeable by the majority of viewers. Buying expensive is more about desire, whereas buying inexpensive is more about necesity

my 6400 is cheap & awesome... needs a tripod for the pixel peepers, but me with shaky old hands I can do well enough to make me happy. Add a G full frame lens & I'm very happy, as you point every thing is arbitrary. I like SONY colours... weird I know. The 6400 has the Sony 9 colour chip, so the best SONY colour available at the time of release. I would like a full frame, but I enjoy the extra reach of the 6400 when added to my 600mm for Moon shots. I love my combo of 90mm G with the 6400, I used it for some specky sport shots, all magazine quality, as a friend pointed out. I'm a hobbyist. 6400 is now an old camera... that commands a larger price now (around 1300) than when I bought mine on special for $970 on special four... five years ago, maybe 6 I'm 60, exact dates elude me. AU dollars.
