Been using it for all my recent videos - just makes it so easy - I don't even putter around with settings...just put it in flat profile, slap on a grade and go...no setup what so ever!
I'm a landscape photographer in Australia and I've always wanted to add video to my repertoire and I think it's time that I started a RUclips channel and I think this will be the perfect device for doing all my B role and most of my main video as well as it's so light and easy to carry. I have a drone as well which is added another element of my Photography
@@MicroFourNerds I am pretty clever and I actually think I couldn't make one make a cover that goes around the outside of it I don't understand why they can't make a cover that goes over the top of it that's clear that issues with the camera
I got it on launch day and still watch YT videos on it daily. The quality of vids is dropping quickly but this is so well done and you are delightful. You've got my sub!
Awesome video. I just ordered one can't wait to start using it on my RUclips channel. Really appreciate your candid and honest review. And I'm subscribing. Always fun to follow another camera nerd. :)
I can fit everything in the soft case.. including the pocket 3 in the hard shell... I keep hearing that it doesnt fit but it definitely does, its a tight fit but it works just fine.
Yeah I think it's the tight fit that bothers me! I should have articulated it better in the video. I spend way too much time hunting for the thing I'm looking for, and in faster paced situations things never go back where they should. It just seems more hassle than it's worth (for me anyway!)
the best thing that DJI could ever do for the Osmo 3 is to put a Red Recording Frame around the display screen. I wish they could do this with my DJI Drone controller/display screen too while I'm filming.
Thanks for sharing this video with us, its helped me decide to give it a try, I’ve been trying to make my mind up for ages 👍🥰 Take Care & have a lovely Christmas 🤩x
Hello Marlene. Have you got the G9m2 yet? I'm amazed at how good this camera is and blows the GH6 away. Last week I was out walking along the local shoreline during a storm on a very dull day trying to photograph the small birds zipping about in the high winds. I had a 200mm prime set to 2.8 all day. I only had maybe one or two seconds to get the birds in the frame and press the shutter before they were gone. I wasn't expecting much but when I got home I was exceptionally happy with the hit rate and how pin-sharp the bird's eyes were. You will love the G9m2.
@@MicroFourNerds it’s so annoying yet surprisingly it gives a nice picture with the d-cinelike profile. I think it fits perfectly in the category of “cameras I love and hate in equal measure “😂
Good insights! Regarding the issue of composing with the little screen; you likely know this, but with the DJI Mimo app, the live Pocket 3 camera feed can playback on your iphone (and possibly ipad, i haven't tired) and framing is much easier than on the tiny screen.
I've ordered this and it's supposed to be delivered today. Very excited to try vlogging with this camera and hopefully better than using my G9! Keep your vlogs coming!
Oh: try the hard case in the soft case again. This had me foxed for a short while but it does fit, but not every way around. Also, the soft case just needs loosening up a little. Works fine for me now.
The old small screen was just unusable, I always had to use my phone to use the pocket, the new screen although not huge, but much more usable. Great review, Thanks!
Thanks for a great presentation! I purchased the Pocket 3 a month ago and have really enjoyed using it so far. I'm seeking some info and thought you might have an answer. I don't vlog so I don't need the DJI wireless mike. I find the built-in mikes add a 'hollow' quality to the sound kind of like a swirling effect, a bit disconcerting. I experimented and found that my Tascam TM-2X Stereo Mic (that I use in my Sony) works with a USBC to 3.5mm audio adapter plugged into the charge port, and the sound is way better. This setup works well with the Anbee Accessory Mount Expansion Frame (with cold shoe mount - $6 on Amazon) and is designed for the Pcket 3. The USBC to 3.5mm adapter plug sticks out more than an inch in front of the camera so I tried right-angle adapters (now three of them) but they won't work with the camera. For some reason, they won't transmit an audio signal like the corded adapter will. Maybe I'm missing something (I really like the low profile of the right angle) and thought maybe you had a thought. Thanks, and happy shooting!

your first point was something i struggled with before it dawned on me if that if you have your indicator light on, which you do, you can take a look at the red flashing light to know that it’s recording
I would love one but I recently bought a DJI Osmo Action 4 which I need to get to grips with, and I would like the Insta360 X3 before a Pocket 3. I love your unbiased view Emily as I get tired of shills & fanboys telling me how wonderful product A happens to be and 6 months later it's product B and how yesterday product A is, so I thank you for that. Keep up the fabulous work.
First gotta say your colours at the start look so great ((s5ii I bet)! As for the ‘bloomin’ OP3 it seems like a great camera for vlogging style work. I used last week for a friend and found it worked very well (!) for video but did find ‘holding a stick’ to record just seemed weird…and do prefer an action camera style…but that is likely a reflection of me being old. Even as a ‘camera’for photos on social media it’s fine (I think photos are 9MP). Screen may not seem so sluggish if you haven’t yet had a morning coffee 😊
Hey, I loved your review. You can fix your first annoyance by using the LED light above the joystick. It's solid green when paused and blinks red when recording.
I was waiting for the pocket 3 before launching my second RUclips channel. As a photographer you can take this and your camera and be super small. A few years of photography summers in Japan have made me want to be as simple as possible.
Appreciate the video! Like you said, there are a TON of reviews videos and you have to wonder about the integrity of the video when they got the camera for free. So your video is refreshing, though sorry you had spend your own real money on it. I picked one up as well, and did so for many of the same reasons you did. I hate big rigs with gimbal, camera and protruding mic out and about, especially when on holiday. This is small, discreet, and non-combative to use. I'm still learning how to use it better. Also glad someone finally mentioned how the case which at first seems nice, to the frustration that you can't store the Pocket 3 in the fitted hard case in with all the accessories (that came supplied in the Creative Combo Kit...how did they miss that?!?! Anyhow, thank you! Great Content!
Great video! I never vlogged before having this camera and now I’m feeling I’m going to more on location reviewing like you have done here. It really is liberating!

Good video, thank you. You didn't go into the on-cam audio vs the DJI mic. I'm assuming there's quite a difference? Also, can I use my Rode instead of buying the expansion pack?
Funny you mentioned a larger sensor version. They've kinda been there with the DJI Osmo Pro which was a M43 version.....but you had to use your phone as the monitor. If I remember right it also shot RAW video.
Great video! Just a note, I fit the hard shell and everything (!) else in the case just fine. You just need to figure how how exactly, but once you do, it's perfect!
Great review! Lovely photos! It’s almost impossible to find this thing in stock. I’m considering just getting the basic camera itself and then adding things in to make the creator kit the hard way. Do you think that’s a bad idea? I feel like it’s easier to get just the cameras basic kit in stock then add in the extra stuff that is in the creator kit, but maybe things will change in a few weeks or a month or so. I’m saving up for it. I can’t wait. Happy to have found your channel.
Soooo tempted to get this. I have a ZV-1 for the small everyday carry, but the pocket looks like it'd blow it out of the water... Unfortunately my wife just got used to the ZV when filming our kids' play the other day and I don't want to explain to her why it's gone 😂😂
I think it's the future. As good for left-handed people as right-handed. A display that works outside - unlike every other camera! MFT version please 😊
Had this since launch and love it, awesome camera, I agree the screen is laggy and you end up swiping alot especially on the right hand side, hopefully they can improve this with firmware. Wish it had more buttons that you could assign. The hard case is good but it's tricky to get it in and out bang on everytime. I wish there was maybe a cover that just slid over the top. I wish you could rename the presets via the mimo app so you could see more what they were or you could call them something you understand. I see Gopro just added this via the app so I am sure DJI can do the same. The Mic2 is amazing and so easy to use. I think they could have a pro version of this which would be a little bigger but have the 3 lenses on it like the drones do. I know it wouldn't be a pocket anymore but I am ok with that. Be great to have a zoom and wide and maybe built in ND, I know I am asking alot now!
Odd solution but Kasey over at Camera Conspiracies bought a foam mic cover and slides it right over. No messing with the filter. Bulky, but in winter not too fussy to put in a coat pocket.
Congratulations on your Seahawks last minute win. Very exciting! The DJI pocket 3 looks like a very capable video machine. As of now I don’t have the need for this camera. I only do 15-30” video clips. My M43 bodies are adequate for this task. For me, right now, not the machine for me. Yesterday I walked into one of the local camera stores. Asked if they had a GX8 and despite not being listed on the website they had one. It wasn’t in the showcase. The GX8 was hiding in the back room. The camera came with the charger. Took it home and now trying it out. This is all your fault. No more new cameras this year. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels uncomfortable to vlog in public. I did do it with the G9II just to test it, but felt awkward in a crowd. DJI seems so discreet.
Good review and a lot of thought provoking information. I think it is a great device and in the right pair off hands a fantastic addition to the kit bag. (In fact who needs a kit bag?)
Great review. Very informative 👍👍. Do you have any issues with the focus jumping? I saw a video that a guy was panning, and the focus jumped to something in the background. It would do it so suddenly that it would mess up the shot.
I do car shows and some stuff with hiking and tourist attractions. I used a zhiyun smooth 5 and an LG V60. It was good enough, then I saw the pocket 3. It outperforms the LG V60 (which is still a solid video phone) and the gimbal movements are much better and more predictable than a phone on a gimbal. It's smaller, easier to set up (no balancing or separate carry bags), its light weight and easy to carry on hikes, around car shows, or in groups of people, and it's very inconspicuous. A new gimbal is at least $150-$200, then add the cost of your phone. . . the OP3 is easily worth the $700, all things considered vs it's competitors. . . from the best I can tell, in order to get similar video quality, you'll be spending well over $2,000 for a camera and lens that can compete. It's an exciting product, especially for people who are just beginning to gain interest in creating videos or people who want to step up from their phone camera and even for people who already have nice cameras, but want something that's easier and quicker to use for some of their shots.
Menu, what's better and what can be changed for the better ! The DSLR days are fading away ! Will the pocket 4 have the full frame sensor with the new lens ? Raw footage ? Into Final Cut since Apple is calling shots in the film industry ! The formats are changing and easy of use is key to success !
Great review. I did the same thing. I put it in the hard case, then tried to put it in the soft pouch and it was a struggle trying to put it in. So had to find it a new home. All they had to do was give us 1-2 more inches of room for that pouch.
It seems ideal! Nice and small too to just stick into a little pocket in the camera bag! - a nice real world review!! Is there a mic in for an external mic?
got it, love it, (combo with microphone) used to ponder on the older ones but my phone with a gimbal got better quality than those. still learning not shot anything more than test footage but will certainly be finding it a place in my go-bag for everyday carry
Gracias, con tus reseñas siempre encuentro los escenarios donde quiero usar las cámaras. Lugares oscuros, muchas personas en movimiento, mucha variedad... gracias.
Morning and Merry Christmas. I used to own the Panasonic Lumix G9 but my boss bought me a Canon R5 so I sold my G9. The Canon is amazing but very heavy when your lumping it and lenses around doing landscape all day. I'm seriously considering selling it and going back to the Panasonic system. What do you think, what would you do. Many thanks
What camera did you use to film at the beginning? It looks INCREDIBLE I’m guessing lighting is a big part of your look/ grading but wanna share your secret??! Keep up the good work!!
Thank you! I shoot with the lumix s5ii at home and have recently been using a mist filter too. I use the Formatt Hitech Philip Bloom mist filter. I think it makes the lights behind me looks really nice!
what about using it for walking and biking videos? i know is a little frigile but what about the stabilization and peculiarity on using the pocket 3 for that type of video? thanks in case you will reply :)
well, with all the paid reviews, seeing your "hashtag not sponsored" review was refreshing. I was sceptical till now but not anymore.. I am going to buy it as soon as it is back in stock 🤦 ... yeah
The footage from the Pocket 3 looks lush Emily ( or maybe it's just you 🙂). I've already sold my Pocket 1 so I can replace it with a 3 for an upcoming trip to Antarctica.Which LUT did you use for grading? Best wishes 👍.
I have had it since release day , I had the P2 and the tiny screen drove me crazy. I also have the Action 4 and the two make a pretty powerful but small and light combo . BTW the mic2 from the P3 now works on the Action 4 (their latest firmware update) .
Thanks! I shoot with the flat profile for everything except Low Light mode, which I think forces you to shoot in standard mode. I colour grade using a mixture of luts to be honest! I'm still experimenting! There's a surprising amount of detail in these little files to work with!
I hate the hard case. I think its only a matter of time before i do some slight damage to the screen. Love the 240 fps. Dropping ice or sugar cubes in liquid. And ive noticed the audio syncing is slightly out. Apart from that Love it 🇬🇧
G95 owner and combination video/stills shooter, frequent traveler, not a vlogger/TikToker, just a family guy who likes to document vacations and daily moments. I really like the video from my G95, and even my phone, but video is a battery life killer on my G95, especially 4k, and I often find myself having to swap from my 12-60mm or 14-140mm to 9mm for video, which is a hassle, so I end up shooting a lot less video on it that I'd like. A couple years back I added an Insta 360 x3 and enjoyed it quite a bit but the video quality is subpar and battery life is not very good even if the 360 effects are cool, and it's not really as compact/pocketable as I'd like with the handle attached. The Osmo Pocket 3 - or even Pocket 2 - looks like it might fit much better especially from a video quality perspective. The other potentially interesting camera to me is the Insta Ace Pro, for many of the same reasons. So even if you're not a vlogger/TikToker/RUclipsr, I think these cameras fill a very useful and interesting niche.
Need ... not realy ... but: With the Poket, panning is much easier and vloging is also mush more comfortable. What really bothers me about the Poket 3 is the fact that the background is blurred when vlogging, which you can't change because the aperture is fixed.
Soooooooooo i didnt have the money to buy the Pocket 3 but uh.... this video made me go get the Pocket 2 lol i felt that pain when you were talking about vlogging in public with an intimidating full camera setup, i always feel super awkward
Its funny, I know it does in theory, but I'm in costa rica right now in the real world with 3 photographers with the Pocket 3, and all 3 of us struggle with it. It's just severely impractical 😂 anyone who says it's quite good customer experience is either a world class tetris champion or is lying
It's not a "you" problem. That little bag IS a problem. Doesn't matter that it all fits if you get it just right, but honestly they could have just made the bad the slightest bit bigger and made it a non-issue. Always frustrating when they go through such painstaking effort to create such an amazing product and then come up slightly short on..... the carrying bag?! Excellent review!!@@MicroFourNerds
Thanks Em, helpful as always. I have an E-PL1 and also a Lumix G7 that I use for photography. I took them on a trip last week and this time tried to shoot some video on the Lumix and man I got such crappy footage! What with the framerate 24fps for cinematic and shutter speed and aperture and all those settings I did not get any good footage. I guess I need to learn more, but I think this looks like a great option for idiot-proof filmmaking
👋 Did you use ND filters while shooting this footage? Do you think it's worth getting a set for this camera? Love your content by the way, I'm located in Colombia and have been watching your videos for the past two years!
Thank you! I do think getting an ND set is worthwhile, but I haven't got any yet myself because the official DJI ones have been sold out here since launch! I honestly was expecting the footage to look more choppy without the NDs but it wasn't too bad ya know! Definitely worth investing in for the best results though 😊
Really enjoyed your video, my first time on your channel. I bought the Pocket 3 after being royally frustrated with the Pocket 2. I agree with you on everything but haven’t tried the mist yet (nor have I bought it yet). I liked that you repeated with and without the wide angle lens several times in a row. That was very helpful. Those popups have to go! Ugh.
The biggest problem with the Pocket 3 is the horrible continuous focusing. The constant shifting and hunting makes 90% of footage unusable. They need to sort it out.
I've used it 2 times for vlogging and so far, I've had a great time learning how to use it. But I still can't figure out how to vlog while walking in a way where the footage doesn't end up looking like a bounce everywhere instead of walking. Hoping to figure that out soon. 😅
Something I noticed is if active track/face track are activated while in selfie mode (walk and talk), it keeps your head perfectly centered (as it's supposed to), but this creates the unwanted SIDE effect of making it look like the background is what's bouncing around a bit. Yes, Ninja-walk/cat-walk helps with this, but just turning off the active-track when you don't need it actually helps to smooth out your video ALOT. Active-track is great, and when the subject is a little further away this effect isn't noticeable - but for walk-and-talk videos, it will produce the slight bounce (just due to the way we walk)
What do you think of the Pocket 3? Does it earn a space in your kit?
Not only does it earn a space in my kit, it REPLACES most of it. Time for traditional camera manufacturers to up their game.
Been using it for all my recent videos - just makes it so easy - I don't even putter around with settings...just put it in flat profile, slap on a grade and go...no setup what so ever!

Odd solution but Kasey over at Camera Conspiracies bought a foam mic cover and slides it right over. No messing with the filter. Bulky, but in winter not too fussy to put in a coat pocket.
I just got it and LOVE it!
Several months on, and I still love it too! It's just perfect!

Enjoy the gx8!!! 😁😁😁😁
You are adorable and authentic. Subscribed. Looking forward for more content!😊
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels uncomfortable to vlog in public. I did do it with the G9II just to test it, but felt awkward in a crowd. DJI seems so discreet.
Spot on, very good presentation
Just a quick note: the protective cover DOES fit in the carrying bag with just a little push! Keep up the good work! Cheers!
Good review and a lot of thought provoking information. I think it is a great device and in the right pair off hands a fantastic addition to the kit bag. (In fact who needs a kit bag?)
Awesome review. Super informative
Actually the camera fits inside the softshell with the case on but it’s important that the case faces outwards! Otherwise it doesn’t work!☺️
Hey Emily, how easy (or difficult) is it download footage from DJI Osmo Pocket to mobile or laptop please? Thanks!
Great review. Very informative 👍👍. Do you have any issues with the focus jumping? I saw a video that a guy was panning, and the focus jumped to something in the background. It would do it so suddenly that it would mess up the shot.
I’m seriously consider this but I already have a pocket 2, trying to justify switching to this
I do car shows and some stuff with hiking and tourist attractions.
Awesome video and information!
that camera you have strapped on your bag looks doooope
Thank you!! I spray painted it 🙈 possibly not advisable but I love it!
@@MicroFourNerds no way 🤣 that's freaking awesome
So you get a radio mic with it depending on the bundle you buy, otherwise there isn't a jack input to add another sort of mic
@@MicroFourNerds I see! Thanks for letting me know!
got it, love it, (combo with microphone) used to ponder on the older ones but my phone with a gimbal got better quality than those. still learning not shot anything more than test footage but will certainly be finding it a place in my go-bag for everyday carry
What would be the reason to not just vlog on iPhone instead? I really want to buy DJI, but this is the question I am asking myself.
Great video, nice job 👍🏼
Gracias, con tus reseñas siempre encuentro los escenarios donde quiero usar las cámaras. Lugares oscuros, muchas personas en movimiento, mucha variedad... gracias.
i got one and for me it is definitely worth it
Morning and Merry Christmas. Many thanks
Great video 😊 thank you
i have it and love it - only problem is the 20 mm lens..24 mm would be better looking, its too wide angled for me
Loved your video!
I really like your color grading on the Pocket 3 footage! Is it just basic exposure contrast adjustments, or did you also apply a lut to it?
What camera did you use to film at the beginning? It looks INCREDIBLE I’m guessing lighting is a big part of your look/ grading but wanna share your secret??! Keep up the good work!!
Thank you! I shoot with the lumix s5ii at home and have recently been using a mist filter too. I use the Formatt Hitech Philip Bloom mist filter. I think it makes the lights behind me looks really nice!
I wonder why you and other creators say the camera with the hard shell protector doesn’t fit into the soft case-mine fits just fine?
Beautifully made video ❤
What a great review!
Thanks for the review. I think I’m sold on the camera now. Imagine if they made this with a m43 sensor 😮.
That would be SO cool !
what about using it for walking and biking videos? i know is a little frigile but what about the stabilization and peculiarity on using the pocket 3 for that type of video? thanks in case you will reply :)
well, with all the paid reviews, seeing your "hashtag not sponsored" review was refreshing.
Can you use a cell phone monitor connected to it like with the pocket 2?
I love your videos color. Ple tell me what mode you shout d log or normal? And which is you apply? Thx.
Thanks! I shoot with the flat profile for everything except Low Light mode, which I think forces you to shoot in standard mode.
I colour grade using a mixture of luts to be honest! I'm still experimenting! There's a surprising amount of detail in these little files to work with!
can you drop footage to an ipad using Wifi?
I hate the hard case. I think its only a matter of time before i do some slight damage to the screen. Love the 240 fps. Dropping ice or sugar cubes in liquid. And ive noticed the audio syncing is slightly out. Apart from that Love it 🇬🇧
OK--you've talked me into buying one. DJI should spon you!
4:03 I got mine and I'm able to fit everything in the soft case with no problem
Also can you put it on a tripod to use at home?
You can yes with the attachment that the mini tripod comes with. There's no tripod mount on just the device
Thanks for your review
Great review. I already own a Galaxy s23 ultra and a 'real' camera. I love this device, but do I really need it? I am tempted but I am not sure
Yeah I think this device will be "want not need" for a lot of people to be fair! There is a lot of crossover in smaller devices now
Need ... not realy ... but: With the Poket, panning is much easier and vloging is also mush more comfortable.
What really bothers me about the Poket 3 is the fact that the background is blurred when vlogging, which you can't change because the aperture is fixed.
What camera and lens are you using in the beginning of the video?
The lumix s5ii and the 50mm (or 35mm I switch between for the home filmed stuff) 1.8 lumix prime.
Soooooooooo i didnt have the money to buy the Pocket 3 but uh.... this video made me go get the Pocket 2 lol i felt that pain when you were talking about vlogging in public with an intimidating full camera setup, i always feel super awkward
how is vlogging now using the pocket 2?
@@happydayzee so i actually decided to return the pocket 2 to get the 3. It's SOOOO much better.
@@randygilsonmusic2748 ah! thank you for the reply. I am debating whether to get it since i just got the iphone 15 pro max...any thoughts? :)
The carrying case does fit the hard shell....
Its funny, I know it does in theory, but I'm in costa rica right now in the real world with 3 photographers with the Pocket 3, and all 3 of us struggle with it. It's just severely impractical 😂 anyone who says it's quite good customer experience is either a world class tetris champion or is lying
Hi Emily, nice video again, but meaning the little bag, you are wrong. After I tried it 3, 4 times, I get the pocket 3 with the hard case in it. Np
It definitely is a "me" problem. I just find it so complicated! I can never get everything in right. It always slows me down so in the bin it goes 😂
Yep, i got one.
Mist Filter got me 😮😮😮😂
How did you get the mist filter when you are not a DJI sponsored reviewer?
I bought it as an accessory at checkout on the dji website when I got the creator bundle
How many hours of footage can the Pocket 3 record to a 512 GB memory card in 4k? Even if the files are all split into 16 GB chunks?
around 11 based on the bitrate of 130Mbps which is in the specs.
I'll keep that in mind when mine arrives, thank you! @@MicroFourNerds
Ugh.
Also the stills were lovely.
For the recording you have literally a RED led indicator when you record
The biggest problem with the Pocket 3 is the horrible continuous focusing. The constant shifting and hunting makes 90% of footage unusable. They need to sort it out.
What mist filter can you buy seperately that you would recommend?
I just bought the dji official one from their website 😊
I've used it 2 times for vlogging and so far, I've had a great time learning how to use it. But I still can't figure out how to vlog while walking in a way where the footage doesn't end up looking like a bounce everywhere instead of walking. Hoping to figure that out soon. 😅
walk heel-toe heel-toe to minimize the up and down bounce
bend a little at the knees - you may look like a gibbon but it will smooth out the bounce.
@@lyzettemaguigad2828 Heel to Toe is a great alternative to the Ninja Walk. Well worth practising for stable footage!
