Great idea James, I may start a Log myself. Be interesting also. Is to keep a Log of when you've replaced the Stylus, to see how long it lasts. I watch ever video you place on line.

Thanks Graham. I love for my spin log. Appreciate your support as always.

Hi, James. Great series. Hugh Padgham's name is indeed kind of synonymous with 80's production, 'innit? That said, his work with The Police, Genesis and Phil Collins is quite brilliant, albeit clearly of its time. Take care, and see you in the next one! :)

Cheers Bob. I'm a bit of a fan of Padgham - I even love 'Press to Play'!

Amazing spins there James 😀🍿🎸🎶 Love The Kane Gang; so underrated 😀 That Church album is amazing mate; only familiar with their 80’s stuff 👍👍 Leonard Cohen’s ‘I’m The Man’ album is excellent 😎 Need to give that Marvin album a listen at some point; had it on the shelf for many a year! Have a great weekend mate and keep up the awesome content 🙌

Thanks Sam, glad you know The Kane Gang. Definitely check that Marvin, it's as smooth as silk.

I still have a few Byrds albums yet to get including the one you showed. I don't think I have heard of The Kane Gang. I was late to Leonard Cohen and I'm Your Man was my first Cohen album purchased. I picked up my first Church album recently but I haven't listened to it yet. It's been ages since I've listened to that Boomtown Rats album which I have on CD. I will have to give it a new listen. I like the series.

Pete Wingfield, the man known from 18 with a bullit. Have a lp of him, never played. I will give it a play tomorrow. Thx for the video!!!

Yesterday I watched the video about Elvis Costello you made with Jon Pickles. I was about to write a response...When I realised it was from 6 years ago and I'd already commented.
Now RUclips wants me to rewatch a video about The Byrds, but I'm onto them.
I've got a couple of Boomtown Rats albums, but I haven't listened to them for years. I have Bob's Vegetarian of Love album on tape. That was a period of his music which really clicked with me. It was probably a bit more folky than his other music.

Hi Hedley. Jon and I have never received the acclaim, fame and recognition we thoroughly deserve for that video. I think it was the first ever collab video 'on the VC' (at least the first I know of), years before Zoom was a thing. I remember the cover for Vegetarian of Love, it was advertised quite a bit in Q but I never bought it. He did one after that which was a sort of tribute to Paula Yates and I had it on CD and quite liked it (and also saw him live when he promoted it), but I don't seem to have it any more.

Hi, James. That Suzi album was one of the few my parents owned. I always enjoyed it. (And don't tell anyone, but it's probably the pick of the bunch here for me. Sshhh).

Hi Alan. Great to hear from you and to see your return again. I was having a chat with Rob Ison the other day and he mentioned you had uploaded a new video. Happy new year, hope you are doing well. I'm not sure if I knew you were a Suzi fan.

I have that Kane Gang record, but I cannot recall when I heard it last - maybe 10 years ago. Discipline is my fav KC record. Leonard Cohen! That's top shelf. I also have The Fine Art of Surfacing for years and have probably played it 3 or 4 times. I guess I should circle back!

Hi Brian. The Boomtown Rats first 3 records are all worth hearing again. The second one, 'Tonic for the Troops' is worth hearing for the Mutt Lange production, which is clearly sowing the seeds for what he was going to do with Def Leppard a few years later.

I think that spin journal has the potential of becoming a rod for your back. The Church were popular with the semi alternative/goth crowd when I went to college. Their guitarist played in All About Eve I think. He's even been playing with Swedish Prog band Anekdoten recently too so he can't be all bad.

You may have a point John. My spin journal fell apart last week as I was only using a crappy note-pad thing, so I've already had to re-write all 80 entries into a new hard-back book. That said it is quite good in terms of being able to track back and see what you've listened to. I've even worked out a coding system, with things like 'FS' (first spin), 'NC' (needs a clean) and 'TG' (to go). Haven't marked up any as 'TG' yet. I can hear shades of prog in The Church.

Here in Canada, there are a bazillion Split Enz albums floating around. Many people love True Colours, which is great, but Time and Tide is their absolute best I think.

Red is my fave King Crimson album, but Discipline is one of their best IMO. It's really strong and experimental for an album so far into their discography.

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic
      @jamesgriffithsmusic  6 часов назад

Totally agree Gavin 'Red' is my fave but Discipline is no. 2 for sure. I need to go back and check out more of their catalogue.

I'm a huge fan of The Church. I think their first 3 or 4 albums were their finest. I also really liked Split Enz Mental Notes but nothing after that ... they seemed like a totally different band after that debut.

Wish I could track down more Split Enz records, I really like the two I've got from them. The Church are cool.

Nice to know your listening habits especially pre Christmas and no seasonal records in sight 👍
The Church had absolutely no chart success here not even top 100 to my knowledge. John at Baggy Hifi is on the lookout too for their albums maybe Dale gatefold 33 also. Ah the vinyl community of yesteryear seems ages ago and so many changes (nostalgic thoughts creep in) maybe we get to meet up this year difficult to say ATM what with circumstances. I'm guessing every other weekend you are still busy so maybe in the summer would suit better? Anyone cheers, Martin.

Thanks Martin, it is very nice digging back through those Church records again and very kind of you to send them my way. Yes, I'm still go to my mum's every other weekend, and the weekends in between are generally family-based. I used to think it'd be easier to get away once our kids were older, but it seems to be getting harder if anything.
