    hahahaha, yeah could be marrted with childrens al bundy, too funny, love your videos, got a banjo on layby at the moment, want to learn to play a bit of basic, only because i just love the sound of the banjo, most awesome sound, my daughter and i are just starting to learn to play our fist musical instrument, the ukulele, told her that we are going to learn dueling ukuleles, she wasn,t that impressed with that idea, haven,t told her about banjo yet, or the fact that she needs to learn her part on the guitar, funny story because we were in our local pawn shop, my missus was paying a layby and i saw this banjo, lovely sound, i told my missus to put it on layby for me and she kept saying no, or you don,t need it, [a bit odd because she,s usually great and nothings a problem] i kept telling her to and the bloke on counter was laughing, in the end they both had to come clean and tell me that she had put it on layby for me the week before [going to be a surprise] as she knew that i really wanted one, toooo funny, cheers mate

    Joff, you are the best. I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. Thank you very much for posting these for dummies like me to learn how to play these songs. The way you take your time and explain what you are doing plus you have the camera on the banjo (left and right hand) so we can see what you are actually doing. I have a request if you don't mind. I have been trying to learn a song that has been a favorite of mine for a long time, but I can't seem to find the tablature for the banjo anywhere for it. I have found videos for it, but the videos do not show you "step by step" how to do it. Would you please please do a video of this song? The song is Red River Valley. Thanks again for the videos, you are great!

    • @JoffLowson
      @JoffLowson  9 лет назад +2

      +LizzieJo83 Thanks for your kind words. I would like to make a tutorial for Red River Valley but it might take a while. You can get started by just picking out the melody, the same way you would sing it. Once you have that you can fill in the gaps with some extra notes and a few rolls. A lot of it will be the exact same techniques as the Cripple Creek Low Melody.

      That's the Grafton Oberon 2, which they don't make any more. It's from andybanjo in Kent, England. The armrest was made by Phil Davidson who is a luthier in the Forest of Dean, England.

If Joff's teaching style is for you, you can go to his website, and join the Members Area, for more advanced lessons and techniques. No one, in a music store, or online, is going to teach you, for free. Joff's Members Area is VERY reasonable, and affordable.

    One of my students watched this and became very upset. After viewing it do understand. For a beginner level this is very difficult. Let's pretend they don't know the parts of a banjo. Nor strings , chords , a pick , thumb roll. Or BASICALLY how to even hold much less tune a banjo. This is more of a lesson for a player of 8 months to a year. playing.
