M-Sport History | Colin McRae's Safari-winning Focus

Only one car comes to mind when you ask Malcolm about Safari Rally, and it features one of the most iconic names in the history of rallying. Wilson talks about the 1999 Ford Focus WRC that Colin McRae drove to victory on the 1999 Safari Rally, claiming the first WRC victory for the Ford Focus.

I had a poster of this car in my room since my childhood. The Mk.1 Focus for me is not just a revolutionary, weird and striking "new-millenium" vehicle. In my opinion, it's easily one of the most beautiful cars ever made and it's definitely one of my all time faves.

I was among the spectators when Collin arrived at the service park in Kajiado with a crumpled front left end and the mechs stripped down the car and rebuild it in a jiffy. Malcolm was there. The clap from the spectators as Collin roared off thereafter was glorious. I wonder if this car is available in scale.

Fantastic car the best driver and the golden era of wrc so many legendary cars and drivers had the pleasure and honour of getting up close and personal with the car last month at the tour of dovanby hall tour was amazing and really in depth be great if the car could be at the McRae rally challenge next month if Malcom let’s it out his sight in fact he should be driving it round knockhill haha
