I traded a LTZ for a ZR2. Ordered both with the switches, so both were mounted, but that is it. All wires and blocks still need installed. Having both kits still i compared and the ZR2 is at least a foot longer. Just an FYI. GREAT VIDEO!
Yes. Depending on where the switches go on the dash the tail is different lengths. I was able to track down the part number for the longer tail and added it in the description after the vid was made. My truck didn't come with them, so even with a vin number it was very much a struggle to get even the correct dash panel from GM and a dealership with multiple trips. Thanks for the support!
Bought my truck 2 days ago and noticed this wire harness and fuse block sitting in the back seat after got it home. Salesman had no idea what it was when sent picture of it. Guess I have mixed feelings about it - glad that it came with the truck, kinda frustrating doesn’t come installed. Anyways, thanks the video! P.S. I think the blue tubing added about 5hp 😝
My dealership wouldn't even install it. The excuse of "not a certified Upfitter installer". Which is weird cuz it's a GM factory part. In the end I'm glad they didnt. Thanks for the support! I was hoping for at least a 3hp gain
That’s nice. I wanted to install a 12v outlet in mine for my RV backup camera. The only ’24 I saw on RUclips that did it, installed his in the up fitter location. I don’t want to do that, just in case I want to install the switches later. Great video, thanks.
@@adventureandrepeat I do have the buckets. I’m not sure if I want to do that. I was thinking about the corner of the dash in line with the upfitter switch, but I’m not sure what is behind it on the passenger side. I’ll pop that off and look. The 12v outlet an older trucks is surprisingly deep so I definitely need a cavity behind the dash.
@@robertboyer5498 iirc there was a decent amount of space on both sides of the switch. May just have to put the hole thru the panel and support structure that the panel snaps into
I just installed mine and your video was a big help. Still a massive struggle. My switches were factory installed but the install was just as hard as yours except my wires were long enough.
Completed! Thx again. What are the second set of wire ends for? Also, 5 switchs, 4 wire ends... is the fifth behind the cab brake light? Like the tourniquet!
The wires are listed as "brake controller". I have the factory brake controller so I never looked any more into it. Yea the 5th wire is a green wire behind the third brake light tied to aux 1 switch to be used for auxiliary lighting for plows and such. And thanks! Hopefully I will never be in a situation to need it, but it's one of those things that if you need it, you really need it.
Great video. I have 2024 LTZ that’s 2 weeks old. Now, to connect the accessories to the switch, you still have to run the power wires through the firewall to the fuse block? That firewall access port doesn’t look big enough to run 5 sets of wires through.
Yes it all has to go back to the relay block. And depending on what size wires you need to run it may be challenging. I have a bunch I need to run and I'm on the fence on drilling a hole or fighting them thru
@@adventureandrepeat That’s why on my last truck I used a switch pros under the hood. Convenient as it was only the control wire into the cab. Everything else ran to the relay under the hood.
Yea I thought about going that route but with a new truck I really like the idea of keeping a factory look on the inside. But yes, only have to run the hot wire thru the firewall. Grounds can go wherever will complete the circuit
Great video! I have the Snow Plow package installed and the factory upfitter switches. Surprised the harness has to be installed by customer. Are all the AUX switches turning something on through a relay? Can they be set up as a simple close and open circuit switch? I have electronic running boards that has a manual disconnect switch that closes the circuit in the off position and opens the circuit in the on position so that any door that is opened triggers deployment.
The switches themselves activate a relay in the fuse box to feed the lead wires that come from the fuse box. The switch panel itself has small wires not meant to carry a load. The load is all carried by the lead wires from the fuse block. But they operate as simple switches. Button on send power to it's designated wire. Button off stops sending power to the lead wire. The aux switches fuse box has a master power feed from the main power that runs from the battery
Auxiliary trailer brake controller is what they are labeled for. Not sure how that works with a truck that comes with the factory trailer brake controller unless it's just all a provisional harness and the bcm has to be programmed for the one being used
I know it's for sure wired in there if you have the plow prep option. As far as without plow prep I have not been able to confirm with certainty. But the upfitter still connects to the same blocks so I'd assume it's there and just not advertised
Unfortunately I don't have the black interior. Mine is the Gideon/grey. And I'm fairly certain 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks have different interior specs as well. Easiest way to do it would be to call your dealer and ask them for the part number. Your vin would give them the information and you would get the exact part necessary
Unfortunately there are multiple different dash panels for these trucks depending on style of interior and color. So I may not have the same dash panel as you do. A dealership should be able to order you one easily
It is a factory option. It's just in a subsection of the builder guide and easy to pass over. My truck was already on the lot with almost everything I wanted, and with a discount. So a 300 dollar option that I can install was traded for a 3k discount on a lot truck. And they actually threw the kit in for me as part of the deal so it really didn't cost me anything
@@adventureandrepeat my upfitter switches came with my truck when I ordered but I still have to install the fuse block. I don’t understand. Ford comes wired and everything when you receive it.
Yea if it was ordered with it, I think it should have been done at the factory. Unless the dealership had an allocation on the line where it was too late to add it but threw it in the truck anyway. Plow prep comes in the truck not installed but the dealership was supposed to install it for me and they never did. You could push back ilon the dealership and ask why it wasn't installed. Or email gm direct and ask what happened. They'd be able to tell you if the dealership forgot
@@adventureandrepeat right. I ordered it with plow prep as well and that wasn’t installed either. I was told by my salesman that it was a customer install part.
Plow prep says in the instructions specifically it is a complimentary one time install. I'm not sure how a dealership is not certified to install a GM part with GM instructions. I know the dealers in my area have a terrible service department and I don't trust them to do anything right so I opt to do everything myself.
It provides fused and relayed wires for running accessories like lights and other things. But giving a factory switch panel to do so and not using cheap switches and cutting up a dashboard. I will use mine to power my 360 degree lights for when I'm plowing snow
