Western Plow Pump Service Rebuild
This is a Western Isarmatic Hydra Turn plow pump. It was in need of a service rebuild to get it ready for the season. This was solenoid driven but it is the same as a cable style plow pump. Very good units, simple to work on!

Towing Update | 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 6.6 L8T Gas
It try update over air and left my battery drain 1st thing in morning with my kids in back. Good thing I had it towed to dealership they said it was radio recall. Scary that it can leave you stranded cause of truck trying update and my phone having problems with connection over Bluetooth
I'm glad you got it towed in. First one I've heard of actually having a dead battery situation
My thoughts exactly. I had a brunch of parts picked out on Amazon. Just very pulled the plug and bought them. The rubber boot for the air box, I thought needed that bump for flex. There was a couple videos on you tube that showed someone doing it. They drilled a hole and tapped it for the breather line. Should be a straight shot from a straight boot to a 90 degree boot.
Yes the flexible boot on the factory tube is for frame and engine flex. That's the one thing I don't like about the replacements is they take that out, but the ribbed section does also create turbulence and reduce air flow compared to a more rigid straight tube.
Yes it would. But I don't have it anymore. Bought it cheap and is the reason that I got it. Somebody said he wanted one. And made me an offer. So I sold it for more than I paid. I didn't think of doing that until awhile later. Oh well!
I've always thought if I had time to try it that some hardware store PVC pipe and rubber plumbing unions would be able to work
Love your site. Just picked up our new 2500hd two days ago to replace our 2004 1500 z71 that we purchased new. I discovered your page when searching for an oil change, because I too am a big proponent of a 500-1000 mile break in oil change. Keep up the great work and now every video of yours that I see gives me a project to add to my list. 😂
Thanks for the support! We're not done with upgrades yet either!
That 77-3103KC kit is an open box under the hood. It was too noisy. Thought about enclosing it. So it would draw from the OEM bottom and should be quieter. And maybe use the OEM air filter. Thanks!
That is an interesting idea! Closing it up would for sure make it quieter. Even using some sound deadening material around the housing would quiet it down more and also insulate the air to get a colder charge.
Thanks for the great video. All I run is Western Unimounts. All though old, they are the best plows I have owned. I also have trouble pushing the ram by hand on one of them. It’s probably because like you said that big bolt on ram is too tight and preventing it from going down easy. 👍
Thanks for the support! I had started years back with a cable style and enjoyed the simplicity. When I changed trucks cable routing was no longer an option. I really like these pumps and how simple they are. I'm going to run it for as long as I can keep finding parts!
I had the K&N 77-3103KC kit. Yes, it made a difference. But the 4" elbow seemed too big and was loose. That's one reason I think the 57-3098 kit would work. Sorry to bother you. You one of the first that seems to understand. Thank you for your responses.
It's never a bother! I always enjoy trying to work thru and solve problems!
I'm like you, keep looking. But I noticed that the one that fits the 6.2L with the air filter box on the passenger side. Looks like it may work. I know that the filter is wrong. Would have to plug one breather whole and figure how to relocate the cooling line.
I know our Tahoe tube is very close to the same dimensions as the 2500hd. So it'd be close, but I haven't had the time to measure to see how far it'd be off.
I remember that I was told that the passenger side was the inlet. And the driver side was the outlet. This was done to keep the incoming air clean and then sucked out the other side. So you would only need 1 catch can there. Right or I'm I missing something. And I seen on your Tahoe that you have a Cold Air tube replacement. Have you thought about doing that to the Silverado 2500hd? I don't care for the complete Air box replacement kits. I have been thinking how to just do a tube replacement. And get rid of the resonator box. Any thoughts? And again thanks for the videos!
Currently there is no option for a modular intake tube for the new 2500hd. I keep looking periodically to see if there was one released. There still has not. Only full intake kits. Which I don't believe are necessary as well. The tube does help improve fuel economy alone without the whole air box replacement. Airaid was the brand of tube I used for our Tahoe.
Love your videos. I'm interested in your catch can style. Waiting for your video. Thanks for the info.
Thank you, and thanks for the support!
The recall in this video is the serial data gateway module and radio update, GM has revised this recall to remove radio update, only serial data gateway module needs to be updated now. However, some trucks/SUVs, typically pre 2024 model, came with android 10 system installed from factory, and the latest version available is android 12. According to GM, latest version fixes multiple wireless connection/blank screen/not responding/other functional and stability issues, it is weird that GM removes radio update with this recall, some vehicles/owners may really need it. GM also says the OTA update, or wireless update, could update your radio to the latest, but in real case, I figured that such OTA updates often either fails or does not send you any update at all, even if your radio system is really outdated. So if you are sending you vehicle to dealership for such recall, take a moment and check the radio system version, go to your info screen, click setting, go all the way to the botton and looking for system version, if it is not android 12 (typically shows in blue color, android 10 shows in white), talk to your advisor and ask if they could update your radio manually, you may or may not have to pay for that since it is not required by recall anymore.
That's really good info, thanks for sharing!
I gather you use automatic transmission fluid which I am guessing works fine for most of your expected temperature conditions but might get a bit stiff when you hit your coldest temps. I have a self moving grain auger on the farm so it has its own hydraulic system and a normal semi synthetic hydraulic oil did not work out well at all and rather than go to auto trans fluid I put what used to be referred to as J13, its even thinner than non synthetic automatic trans oil and I believe was developed for applications like air craft landing gear and I am told those delivery truck platforms use that oil in cold weather to get to operate. Cold winter conditions are brutal ! ... guys used to pour in and may still do, a percentage of kerosene into their hydraulic tank oil to thin it out for their gravel end dump trailers when using them during the winter.
Yea I use trans fluid. Manual calls for Dex/Merc or equivalent. It does get stiff on negative temps when floating the ram down. I've cut it with seafoam treatment before which I'm guessing is just kerosene as well. I have a bunch of amsoil around the garage so a fluid change is essentially free for me. I've known guys in the construction industry to run their hydraulic units on their trucks all night just to keep the fluid moving and not get too cold on bad cold snaps
@@adventureandrepeat Speaking of Amsoil, I know way back in the 1980's I had installed a power steering system on a Toyota 4x4 pickup that never came from the factory with power steering and I ended up changing from regular dexron to Amsoil equivalent and it certainly made a difference. J 13 would not be suitable for everything but I would expect for a plow application it would work just fine, I doubt there is hardly a thinner hydraulic type oil out there. I cringe at the idea of adding anything to oil to thin it but unfortunately sometimes there isn't an alternative. Like I joked to my neighbour the other day, that my dad had figured out the secret to dealing with winter ... he retired to Arizona, never to have had experienced a cold northern Canadian winter ever again in his life, unfortunately I can't begin to afford such a luxury !
There's plenty of desert out there with free parking!
@@adventureandrepeat My brother was down there last winter for a bit in Yuma and he drove right through one of those area's you would be referring to, Quartzsite. As he said, there is not much of anything out there and mostly no trees for shade, sand blowing, and too many questionable people out in an area like that in later years. But even to do something like that means driving down there a long ways in winter weather through the salt with a trailer or RV of some sort ruining it in the process. My dad happened to be a US citizen, and myself and my brother worked for years on this farm handing over funds for him as he lived that life style. It was a different time indeed, now everything is all but unaffordable ( and neither am I a US citizen ) I can well imagine the mess and the sewer dumped around there as per Quartzsite, garbage etc. I have a feeling things are going to change with that whole theme going forward.
Most in this area like to retire to Florida. Plenty of sun and sand and nice beaches. The occasional hurricane.
good afternoon, sir. Hope all is well. I wanted to ask you a quick question. I have the same truck as you but the midnight edition LT I was wondering if you’ve seen or is it common for them to be a little bit of old shim or shimmer around the oil pan or the transfer transmission case I’ve got just a little over 7000 miles on my truck now and I did my first oil change at 5000 miles, but I’ve noticed all starting to accumulate near the oil pan after cleaning it off with accumulates again not a whole lot but enough to ask anybody their opinion or calls for concern
Is there any on the oil filter itself? Is it only on the back of the oil pan and the front of trans pan?
@ no oil near the filter just the rear oil pan and a little bit near transmission area
@ maybe factory break in grease or something it my first new vehicle 🤣
I don't think I'd be worried about it just yet. However if it still is showing it after the second oil change or you are noticing oil loss I would have it checked out. Because that would be pan or rear main seal. Or even torque converter shaft seal. Which can be a big deal.
@ 10-4 sirrrr
Thanks for the video. I purchased the factory cable and fuse block for the secondary battery and I do want to isolate the secondary battery when the truck is off. Can I run a switched power source to the plug in the harness to make it work as intended, without having to get a new engine harness?
Yes, in theory that should work. I say "theory" because I have not personally verified that myself. I had thought about going that route myself, but with only a single 30 amp output on the second fuse block and a small cable to combine them, I opted for the diesel block because I run winches and plows so the 400 amp fuse suited me better along with I can run a bigger combining wire to help support the draw of the large loads put on the second battery
My truck is at the dealership right now because I came out to my truck completely dead Sunday morning as I was trying to go to Church. I just purchased it two weeks ago and they said they did do a software update that was part of a recall but my car still died. We will see what they say today.
Very interesting! I hope they are able to figure it out. Please let us know what they found so we can pass that information along!
@@adventureandrepeat They just tested the battery and the electronic system and said everything was okay. If it happens again, I will make a video.
Thanks!
Please change that flag… that’s horrible sir 😢
Don't worry. It was changed a few days after this vid was made
Is bought 2024 2500hd diesel 2 weeks ago . Have this same problem, radio volume very low and car play calls cut in and out , smh
That's unfortunate! Are you planning on taking it in for warranty?
Do you have the harness part number if we want to use it as an auxiliary battery? We occasionally turn gas 2500's into police vehicles, and would like an option that's as factory as possible.
No I don't have the number for the engine harness. I had only purchased the crossover harnesses that was supposed to tie in the batteries. But a factory gas setup has a second battery just dedicated to the trailer plug harness and that's it. That's why I tied them in direct, to be a proper dual battery setup. I plow snow and run winches, so the factory gas setup would be almost useless for me. Unless you are looking for the crossover harness number, I'd have to dig that out
I have a 2000 Tahoe 64k original miles with collector plates. Runs, drives like new. I would never buy a modern GM/Chevrolet truck: rolling iPhones on wheels. Just bought a Frontier Pro4X instead.
Yes they can have a few issues with how complicated they can be
I traded a LTZ for a ZR2. Ordered both with the switches, so both were mounted, but that is it. All wires and blocks still need installed. Having both kits still i compared and the ZR2 is at least a foot longer. Just an FYI. GREAT VIDEO!
Yes. Depending on where the switches go on the dash the tail is different lengths. I was able to track down the part number for the longer tail and added it in the description after the vid was made. My truck didn't come with them, so even with a vin number it was very much a struggle to get even the correct dash panel from GM and a dealership with multiple trips. Thanks for the support!
I have a 2024 Silverado 1500LT with a V8 gas engine. I can’t for the life of me figure out the how and where of installing a second battery under the hood like I did with my Tahoe. There doesn’t appear to be room without moving stuff around. I have a Decked system and a SmartCap so I’ve got other options, but I’d prefer it to be under the hood. Any safe ideas? I’ve had people suggest welding a bracket behind the grille but all I can see in that case is a front end collision and a massive short.
They did make it more challenging to add larger components with the chassis redesign. However I would not put one behind the grille for safety reasons too. You might be able to fit one on the outside of the frame horn on the passenger side right behind the headlight bucket in the empty space
Great info just wondering what type of oil grade does it take?
5w30 with a dexos1 gen 3 certification
I was ready to walk out of dealership with fab in hands to my new truck, hold on there is a recall on the software, I had to leave my truck overnight , only to pick up next day , ok up to this day , thanks
I get that's very frustrating! But it is the law that they can't sell the new vehicle if there's a recall out. It helps keep people safe and keep dealerships from hiding issues
very helpful!
Thanks!
Also I assume that the part number listed 84663447 is the fuse block that isolates the battery on gas engine option. Almost twice the price. I like your install with the diesel block. Not planning to have a camper. I do have the 5th wheel prep but only planning to tow a gooseneck equipment trailer. I’m ordering all the parts for this install soon and don’t want to spend $100+ extra by ordering both fuse blocks when I believe I only need to by the 84663446 block. It doesn’t look like you had anything else listed that was specific to the gas stock set up. Am I correct?
That is correct. I never used the gas factory harness to connect the batteries. Diesel fuse block and factory ground cable and factory hold down bracket
When I looked up the part number you had listed for aux fuse block 84663446 the GM parts description is: With auxiliary battery, with dual alternator, aux battery, 6.6L diesel. This part requires programming and/or special setup procedures. GM Service Information describes the procedures and special tools needed to ensure proper operation in the vehicle I didn’t see you using any special tools or having to do any special programming. Is the description BS so you’ll bring it to a dealer.
That is correct. With the diesel version, no programming is needed. It's all direct connection with the batteries. I have not been to the dealership for any programming changes for the second battery
Haven’t had the update yet. I did have the battery go dead and the tailgate malfunction. My truck had been waiting to be fixed since august. A guy pulled out in front of me. He had a red blinking light I had yellow blinking light. The shop was so backed up and waiting on a part they are just starting to work on it now. Truck hag 3700mi when I got in the accident. So still have to take it in for the tailgate and soft wear recall.
Please let us know when you get the recall done if it gives you any issues!
Great info!
Thanks!
Ordered a kit today. Do I need to get a 60 amp bolt to bolt fuse or should it come with one.
Kit will come with everything you need
Decided to get the software update done today. Everything worked fine before and seems fine now at least on the test drive home. Also I just received the tailgate notice yesterday so they had the part and took care of that too.
That's great to hear! Did it clear out any of your settings as well?
@adventureandrepeat looks like all settings were preserved
Sweet! Thanks for getting back to us and letting us know!
My sound level goes down and after a few seconds it comes back up No done the update yet but am going to!
Very interesting. Please let us know if that was able to fix it for you!
I have a 2025 GMC Sierra Denali have noticed that my volume level changes, but stay that way for a long time and then jump back up.
Does the software update wipe out all your settings, like seat, dash, garage door opener?
It should not. But I have not been able to confirm in person on that
@@adventureandrepeat ok i hope not, I've decided to go ahead and have it done today so I'll report back, thanks
Yes, please let us know! Thank you!
Would it matter if I installed this harness before the plow is installed and no solenoid present yet?
No it does not matter if you install it before the plow. It would just be there and ready to go. Being installed but not used would not affect the operation of the truck
I had mine done on my 24 1500 Zr2 this summer, I was lucky enough to have a loaner for the day. Zero issues since the update.
Excellent! That's great to hear!
Do you know what those three wires are that are taped off close to the power block are for?
Auxiliary trailer brake controller is what they are labeled for. Not sure how that works with a truck that comes with the factory trailer brake controller unless it's just all a provisional harness and the bcm has to be programmed for the one being used
Ok thank you
No problem!
For this recall, on the 2024 2500 HDs, does it upgrade android 10 to android 12???
I do not know for sure. I haven't gotten the recall yet to confirm if it does or not
@ the fact that GM has released so little actual info is maddening…. Their letter is completely non specific.
Yea the letter is terrible. The app gives more details and talks about the radio system itself
What kind of grease you recommend?
I always recommend shell gadus red grease. Here's a link for it! amzn.to/4cmwo81
What if the solenoid is on the plow like the 2 plug fleet flex
Best suggestion would be to make a weather Pack 2 wire quick connect and wire it down the the plow. So it would just be another connection to make when you hook and unhook the plow. Weather packs are easy to use and don't require any special tools
@@adventureandrepeatokay thank you
No problem!
Had the recall done on my 2024 AT4X HD, text messages from my iPhone no longer work. I see no notification on the screen or indication someone has messaged me. Before the recall I'd get a ding and if I was stopped the message would show up on the radio. The "play message" feature has never worked, and now I don't have any text messaging whatsoever. It sucks, but I will try the battery fix. I have done the holding down of the hangup button for a reset multiple times and it hasn't worked, so don't have high hopes for the battery.
Please let us know if the battery disconnect was able to work for you!
@@adventureandrepeat Nope, shocked myself for nothing, Google Assistant doesn't recognize that a device is connected on Bluetooth even though it clearly is. SMS app does nothing.
Well that's unfortunate! Are you going to take it in for the dealership to fix it?
The only issue I had with my 2024 2500hd that I am aware of was google maps would stop working once in a while. After the update, it still did it. So I don't know if it did anything for my truck. After the last time, I learned to force restart/reset the infotainment system. You must be in park and hold the end call button on the steering wheel for about 10-15 seconds.
Very interesting! Are you going to take it back in to see if that can get fixed?
@adventureandrepeat not anytime soon. It is stored for the winter.
I get it! If you do have them look into it, it would be appreciated if you let us know what the results were on how to fix it so we can pass that info on to others
There’s been a problem with there radios since 2019. I took GM to court for lemon law for the radio issues I’ve had and won 10 grand for a radio. GM GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER.
What vehicle and radio setup was that?
I had my trailer brake module recall done and they came out with this about a week later. I haven't taken the time to get it done, but my CarPlay has been quirky to connect and wireless CarPlay hasn't worked in months. Hoping this update may correct that but not real confident!
Very interesting! Please let us know how that goes and if it was able to solve your problems! Seems like the few that have issues before the update, the update was able to fix everything and start working properly again
What years does it cover?
To my knowledge it's just 2024
@ thank you
No problem!
I got the update and ever since then I get a cel that keeps going on an off randomly. Codes thrown are for map sensor, parking module with errors from the serial gateway loosing connection with power steering, loosing connection with the brakes, one of the front cameras loosing comms with serial gateway. And fyi, I have tried the hard reset twice now prior to this video and while a good time would pass between the cel going off and coming back. Now it happens every so many miles. So it’s gotten worse
That's interesting! Are you planning on going back to the dealership to have them look into it?
@ so I was advised by a master mechanic to contact Chevrolet directly and start a case and they would make sure the dealership would get it fixed and make sure I got a rental. There is a tsb about there being issues with the wiring that’s causing the issue. There is also things I’ve heard about resetting the system. If that doesn’t work then to replace the module.
Wiring would make sense. It seems like it's a communication error with something or as simple as a bad terminal connection. Tracking that down could be a challenge
I had no issues at all before the update. After the update my clock looses time, clock will reset to the correct time next time you start engine then starts loosing time again, radio cuts off while driving down the road for 10 to 15 seconds then comes back on. Also driving down the road radio keeps going to home screen. I wish I would not have gotten the update!!!!!
Have you tried to do a battery disconnect at all? Or do you plan on taking it back to the dealership?
@adventureandrepeat I didn't know anything about a battery disconnect until I watched your video I will try that tomorrow Thank you!!!!
No problem! That's why I made the video to try and help anyone that may also be having trouble after the update. Please let us know if that was able to solve your problem!
Buying a new truck these days is bad🎉
New or used is always a gamble. Both have their benifits
I think everything is working ok on my '24 2500hd so I'm hesitant to take it in for the update. I have an appointment next week but may just cancel for a while.
We have chose to hold off as well until the issue becomes a problem. We added a second battery so I'm less concerned about a dead battery situation
just bought my 2024 two weeks ago. not sure if it's done, but my android auto is trash and at one point the infotainment center just deleted my phone all together on the phone page lol. it wasn't happy. but even with just Bluetooth and android auto disabled on my phone, my phone connects but truck says media is unavailable sometimes. had no issues in my 2019 Volkswagen Atlas with android auto. I also saw Android auto is coming out with another huge update, version 12 to 13.3 I believe I read.
I believe your update has to have been done for them to let it leave the lot. Are you planning on taking it back to get it fixed? Because that is definitely not right.
@adventureandrepeat probably going to mention it as I also heard what I think is a lifter tick tonight around midnight. (I'm 3rd shift) my truck has 713 miles. 🥲 wish me luck, I leave work in an hour going to see if it continues it's bs.
Please let us know what happens and if it gets resolved so we can keep passing the information on! I know it can be frustrating
No issues on mine. I have two.
That's great news! Please let us know if any issues do come up!
I did get the recall done. And I haven't had any issue since, or I didn't have any issues before either.
That's great to hear! Please let us know if any issues do develop!
if you go into settings, system, about... what is the "build number" I'm interested as to what the number is after the Y in the sequence. Mine is Y169.3.2, and this did not change after the dealer "did" the update. Everything I'm seeing is the Y number should be different. Anyone who has had this done, can you reply back as to what your Y number is. Thanks.
