  • We cover the service and maintenance Schedules as called out by GM in their factory manual. We also discuss what we will change or do different with our truck to help keep this truck running and last. There are some things not covered because there was no mention of service schedules for them in the manual. At the time of this recording aftermarket parts availability was very limited so some parts had to be purchased from the dealership directly. We hope this was helpful!

    Good video. My l8t dually has 65k hard working miles on it. Great engine so far. My service schedule is the same as yours except 50k drive train fluids for mine. I would definitely recommend the S&B intake system for this engine. Helps with mpg and throttle response.

      Very cool! Do you have a number with how much better mpg it got with the s&b? I'm very curious about getting one myself

    I just ordered a 2500HD ZR2 w/diesel. May regret the diesel but I have the utmost respect for the 6.6 gas. It is an extremely well built engine Look for GM to turbo or supercharge them soon.

      Just like fuel injection, I think it's only a matter of time before they will be the standard. Cummins developed a 6.7 gas engine with a turbo. Power numbers are very impressive. If ram adopts it as an option GM and Ford will almost have to use turbos as well to keep competitive

      You shouldn’t! My 17 l5p duramax has been great with 105k miles just do the required maintenance. And clean your map sensors that’s the easiest most overlooked item

    • @adventureandrepeat
      @adventureandrepeat  2 месяца назад +1

      @@fredwilliams7893 I agree they can be very reliable with proper maintenance. I think fuel filters should be done with every oil change, even tho manuals don't call for it that often. They are on the second Gen of L5P, if it was a bad engine, it would have been replaced by now

    • @fredwilliams7893

      @@adventureandrepeat agree as well. Fuel filter change every oil change. Map sensor cleaning and engine air filter change plus the maf sensor cleaning as well

    Also, the manual says to not tow during the first 500 miles and then perform first oil change before heavy towing. (pg 278 in the HD GMC manual)

    Has your 2500 have any rear suspension noises ?

    • @adventureandrepeat
      @adventureandrepeat  2 месяца назад

      So far not with the leaf springs. I've only found the rear differential to be a quart low. And when it was low I would get an occasional clunk from the back of the truck

    What a great video thank you. I’m in the market for a Chevy heavy duty. I’m weighing my options between a 2500 and a 3500.
    What about changing the spark plugs, (coil packs)?
    Also, what are your thoughts on getting a can for the pvc system?

    • @adventureandrepeat
      @adventureandrepeat  4 месяца назад

      Glad it was helpful! A 2500 max tow and a 3500 are the same thing. A standard 2500 is just missing the overload leaf springs and the brackets essentially. So frame wise they are the same. Plugs, wires, and coil packs are all easy to get to on these. I have a video up of under the hood and it shows how easy they are to get to. And a video of coil pack replacement on a Tahoe which essentially is the same engine as this truck, just with more space to get at everything. And as far as a catch can, I will be putting one on, but I don't think they make THAT much of a difference. But they do help, and helping is good enough for me to put one on

      Yes it will. Should be no difference between the trucks as far as drivetrain is concerned

    I was the one who had asked about the drain plug for the rear diff and you had shown a video after that which indeed unfortunately, the newer trucks diff housings having an embossed area but no threaded hole. So what I never asked at the time was, does the front diff still have a drain plug or have they taken that away as well ?

    • @adventureandrepeat
      @adventureandrepeat  4 месяца назад +1

      No drain plug on the front diff. Only a fill. Could be syphoned from the fill to replace it. But the front cover has a steel core rubber gasket that are usually reusable and not just rtv

    • @charlesb4267
      @charlesb4267 4 месяца назад +1

      @@adventureandrepeat So they did take that away too, the dirty buggers !. I've gone through the ordeal on vehicles of using a factory gasket that was just a paper type gasket and they claim oh yes it will hold ... don't need any rtv and of course it leaks like a sieve even with a brand new diff cover. So end up using rtv and having to clean that up each time the cover comes off. In my mind, planned obsolescence or more work for a shop if the vehicle owner doesn't do this type of maintenance but wants to have it done. In any event thanks for the answer to what I hoped was not the case.

    • @adventureandrepeat
      @adventureandrepeat  4 месяца назад +1

      @@charlesb4267 I always use a light film of rtv on any differential gasket just to be on the safe side
