Free lumbah!!! Wishing I had a bigger planer...my orange box one is doing the job for now, but having one with larger capacity and a spiral cutterhead is the goal. Nice build and explanation as usual!
@@PaulCiura Thank you Paul! Heck yeah free lumber. Wasn’t the best but it’s free and it’s furniture for the house 😂 For sure, having this 15” planer is nice. Goes along well with an 8” jointer. I don’t think I’d need anything with a bigger capacity.
Hey Joesph Easiest way to distinguish between red & white oak is look at the end grain, fresh cut. The fibers of white oak are much tighter together than red. Also white oak has a distinct ammonia-ish smell to it. Also much heavier than red oak. From what I can see that’s def white oak I need the number of these guys to call for some of that free timber.
Ahhh, thanks for the explanation Tom! I don’t think I got an ammonia smell from both 5/4 or the 10/4 stock. Or maybe I don’t know what ammonia smells like 😂 So both the thin and thick stock are white oak? And sorry man I can’t do that, I can’t share my secret source, hahaha.
Thank you Ross! Glad to be back! Had a busy summer but now it’s almost winter and have more free time so I can continue with projects. I really appreciate the input! Hope all is well with you and I need to check your new videos!
@@howardsmith5474 The quality is ok. I’m not a big fan of the ceramic guides and how they adjust. But if you can find it used at a good price and it’s well tuned I’d go for it. For something new I’d look elsewhere.

Wow! Such an amazing compliment, thank you so much!
Do you recommend the Laguna Bandsaw?

Legs look like red oak, the top looks like white oak. Either way the desk looks good and will last generations.
I’m thinking the same but I haven’t work enough with red oak to be sure. I know the top is white oak for sure as it super dense and heavy. Thank you!
