I have had my pedal commander for about two years in my 2017 4runner. This morning my engine light and traction lit up. And lost power. Anybody had this issue
I can attest, these ARE WORTH the money. There is also a less expensive version called RoarPedal, which is what I have in my 2019 F-150 5.0. It is an immediate noticiable change and great for these newer vehicles with 6 to 10 gears. These force the vehicle to quickly change gears vs. revving and lagging before finally finding a gear. Having the sensitivity settings allow you to fine tune it to your driving habits. Everyone loves sport mode for fun but I also tow a 6000lb boat and it is a game changer for towing. My truck goes right to the gear needed and no lag at all. I recommend them to everyone!
And the fact it comes with a 2 year replacement warranty and doesn’t void your warranty makes it so appealing. I can’t wait to get my TRD Pro. Will make it fun and won’t be as painful giving up my M340i with its quick throttle response… and yes I know they are 2 different beasts but initial throttle response is everything with making it a joy to ride.
I’m not one to comment, BUT! I am a bilateral amputee, and I love my 4Runner SO much! I struggle with how small the toe box in the 4Runner is. Not being able to point my toe, I literally cannot floor it. Driving up mountain passes, I am constantly having to use the sport shifter to try and get my RPMs up. This product will change my life!
I traded in my 04 Limited this week for a TRD ORP. I love my new rig but there are several things the 4th gen is better at.....Accelerating smoothly and accurately is at the top of that list. (cornering flat like a sports car compared to the 5th gens lean and the connected driving experience in the 4th gen vs. the isolated driving experience in the 5th gen are 2 and 3 on that list....lack of a rear wiper, no soft close hatch mechanism, no inside release on the fuel door are the other annoyances) Before I bought my 5th gen I drove a new TRD Tacoma on a very cold and icy day. I had to merge onto the freeway from a tight cloverleaf and just about wrecked the new truck because of the on/off throttle tuning. I needed the truck to GO!.. but it didn't want to... I instinctively mashed the pedal and was rewarded with about the twice the power I wanted. The salesman didn't know it but he was happy he didn't ride along with me. He would have needed to go home to change his drawers had he experienced my 'zipper merge at 65mph sideways' skills.🤣 Seriously though, how Toyota thought an on/off throttle pedal would help fuel economy is beyond me. Maybe if you live out in a rural area it would be beneficial, but in the city I need the throttle to do what my foot tells it too. When the throttle only opens a portion of what I need, mashing it to the floor is inevitable.. so poor fuel economy is inevitable. And to make things even more exciting, the brakes are overly sensitive. Something tells me the gas pedal engineer and the brake pedal engineer forgot to schedule a meeting during the design process. Having said all that....Thank you for this review, I'll definitely be buying one of these . It's a bit of a bummer that I need to buy an aftermarket solution to get my new 4runner to accellerate as well as an 18 year old 4th gen with 254,000 miles. "technology!" and "progress!" lol *for the record, the 5th gens list of strengths over the 4th gen is longer than it's list of weaknesses.....and it looks freaking rad. I loved my 4th gen and I'm going to miss it... Anyone who thinks it's the worst generation has clearly never owned one. It is, without a doubt, the best $5,000-$10,000 you can spend on a used vehicle. Mine still drove like it was new with 254,000 miles. In 16 years it needed 1 wheel bearing, 1 axle seal, 2 brake calipers, 2 front axles (boots tore) and 2 oxygen sensors and both seat heater elements burned out. It Never burned a drop of oil. It's still rolling on it's original suspension, ball joints....everything. Never needed an alignment. Tires always wore evenly. Absolutely Incredible Vehicle.
I installed the Sprint Booster. Does all the same things as Pedal Commander but the reason I went with that one is the small controller that I mounted on the dash and is barely visible.
Jon thanks for that awesome detailed report on the Pedal Comnmander. I just purchased after listening to all the negative and positive. I also waited like you. But since I've done mostly all my mods (for now), I'm happy. I have the Flowmaster super 44 exhaust, plus TRD intake. I can't wait to get my PD and feel the difference. Best video on RUclips about Pedal Commander! Got mine coming today for a Kia Sorento and I am excited! We love the car but the throttle response it atrocious. Worse than any car I’ve driven. Hopefully this is the fix I’ve been looking for!
Jon, you previously mentioned the TRD Exhaust. I just installed it on a 2019 ORP. Toyota parts says the accessory will not fit the 2019, it is listed as a 2020 accessory. 1. It fits 2. PIA to install because of the two bolts in the flange between exhaust and tailpipe. 3. Sounds great, NO DRONE. Not loud just a nice tone. I am not crazy about the side exit but it is what it is.
Vanilla Gorilla Absolutely great, would do it again. At a higher rpm point and in a pull, there is a slight drone but it goes away quickly. Love the sound, not loud but ...
No difference if both drivers slam down the gas pedal. This just makes it so you don't have to press as hard. Not a fan of these types of products but that's just me
Can you keep it in sport at all times ? I have 2020 ORP with 400 miles on it. I ordered mine last night. I'm hoping after long time use in sport doesn't mess up anything. I know gas will be bad but that's it correct? I live 3 miles from everything.
Dom Make sure to scrub the dash plastics really well before applying the included Velcro. If you run into any issues with it sticking, their customer service will send out extra Velcro.
In installed a Sprint Booster in mine and like it allot. I went with it because of size (installed perfectly in that little area under the vents near "right knee area") and settings. Both accomplish same thing.

Hey Jon. Great video(s)! Thanks for putting all this info out there! Quick question on the Pedal Commander and apologies if you addressed this elsewhere. Does installation/use of the Pedal Commander affect use of the Multi-Terrain function?
1. Do you have to turn it off before you shut off the engine? 2. Does the setting save every time you turn the vehicle back on? Thinking about buying one in a couple months.

The real world con is one that quite a few people have experienced with losing power during driving, having the “Christmas Tree” dash light experience and ending up removing them and selling it on T4R.org haha. Google the reviews they’re out there.

@@jeffreymcdonald8267 The MAF calibrator allows you to tune the air fuel ratio outside of reprogramming the ECU. Instead of changing the ratio in the current programming, this intercepts the signal that the computer uses to determine the air fuel ratio before it gets to its destination and remaps it according to your specifications. Think of it as fixing your vision by putting glasses in front of your eyes. Your brain still works the same way, it just has a better idea of what it sees. The MAF Calibrator allows you to tune your air fuel ratio for the engine modifications you have.
Great Video! Do you know if or how this might affect Toyota's warranty (engine/transmission)? Do they have any issues with it? Also, have you used it at all with 4WD?
TKS TRD Jon, defiantly scribed to you and am moving forward with a few of your Mods, whish i have the mula to do them all especially the catback exhaust you should look at the rear window control/lock and unlock mod for when/if you truck camp. with it you can unlock the back hatch without using the keys and roll down the rear window for air all while sleeping in the back area of teh 4runner. i installed it in my 4runner and it freaks other 4runners out when i show it to them, plus its only around $55.00

I only used it for the in car portion the rest was basic phone mic and dji osmo mic. It should be in my amazon store for the products I use to make the videos.
After a days worth of switching and driving I decide that my transmission and how the computer had changed it since I did it from day one it is not worth risking any damage. It started shifting weird. Down shifting and felt like it was slipping and just wanted to shift randomly in gears that wants not the usual. So I can not give you the accurate difference between sport plus 2 and city plus 2. 😑
Blue TRD Jon the only thing I can think of is the computer adjusted itself and 22k miles. Just the 10-15 miles driving with the change isn’t long enough for the computer to up date. I’m going to ask my buddy at the Toyota dealership.

Dude this is SO worth it.
@@TRDJon gotta put this in the budget behind the MAF Calibrator.
@@TrailorSailYT What is the benefit of a MAF calibrator.
How’s the gas per mileage, is there a difference since it gives you a throttle ease.
About the same. Check out my ShiftPower video as well. It’s a lot cheaper of an option too
Great Video! Do you know if or how this might affect Toyota's warranty (engine/transmission)? Do they have any issues with it?
Also, have you used it at all with 4WD?
I've turned it off with 4x4 just cuz i didn't wanna mess with anything. It may have pre mature wear if you leave it in sport+ all the time.
Very good explanations thanks for the demo and vid! I think city mode would be plenty to make me happy versus stock.
Do you have an update on fuel economy since installation? Thanks!
About the same. I will make another vid this weekend for you all.
Is this good on gas mileage? I have a 2007 4Runner
Just curious, will this effect the factory warranty? Still waiting for my 21 Venture to come in and this would be the first thing I want to add.
It shouldn’t.
What mode did you wind up staying with? I use sport 2 but curious as to what you are using now.
Are you still using the pedal commander ? I just got a 2023 limited 4runner and I'm thinking of installing one ? Yes or No ?
I have the ShiftPower USA now on it. I have a video on my channel too
Great video Dude!! Do you know anything about Sprint Booster? If so why Did you choose paddle commander? Just querulous. Thanks
Thanks! Basically does the same thing. I made a video a few weeks ago asking my subscribers which product they wanted to see reviewed and the PC won
@@TRDJon I think That's because of the smartphone bluetooth connection for changing settings. The other is American made. And no bluetooth connection offered or needed cause unit is tiny. Throttle commander is Turkish made.
Sweet shades btw!
I just got a 10% off discount code from Pedal Comander. Quick question. Is it still worth 300$?
Solid video, solid everything. Thank you.
Much appreciated!
Thank you for doing this review
Of course
Worth every penny!
Jon TRD Blue I have the 2019 TRD PRO Voo Blue intent to use it for hauling my two jet skis do you recommend this product , $ 400.00 resale not exactly cheap great video once again ...
I can see it benefiting towing really well
Any suggestions for a stuck cable? Damn thing will not disconnect above the gas pedal for me to install the new cables.
Maybe try a tiny flat head screw drive to release the tab?
Where did you end up mounting your pedal commander?
Honestly it's still in my cup holder since I have been tinkering with it. I also haven't been able to drive as much as I have wanted.
Does it improve ECO mode?
great video! take care my friend and stay safe :)
Thanks, you too!
Do you still have it installed? Any issues since this video?
None. I have the shiftpower usa installed now. More features
Nice! Will this work on my FJ with manual transmission?
They have one for it. Just head to their website to see which one suits it best
Dope. Might go buy one now lol
I did not expect it to really do what it did. That is for sure.
Whats the gas milage in sport or city
Time for another update
Will do man!
Is there a cheaper option?
What mic setup do you use? :) good video, I like your real-world reactions. Thank you for more great content. Be well.
Was it bad ? I’m using the Rhode Wireless Go. Thanks !
@@TRDJon no it was good! I was looking at getting that same one for my kids Capoeira studio but wasn't sure about sound quality. It sounds good and clear! I was actually looking at one that was higher, for productions etc, but knowing which one you use, I'm sold... Is it in your Amazon link thing?
I only used it for the in car portion the rest was basic phone mic and dji osmo mic.
It should be in my amazon store for the products I use to make the videos.
Does this void warranty ??
I'd like to know how it compares with the Sport mode in the stock transmission.
The 4Runner doesn't have a sport mode option to try that with. I'm sorry.
Awesome Jon 👍
Thanks !!! I appreciate it
Great video. Did you encounter engine check light after installation?
Negative. And still haven’t.
Sprint power booster it’s made in USA!
Actually it’s made in Greece. PC is made in Turkey and based outta California
Dang really? I haven’t had issues like that yet. I will keep an eye out though.
Blue TRD Jon the only thing I can think of is the computer adjusted itself and 22k miles. Just the 10-15 miles driving with the change isn’t long enough for the computer to up date. I’m going to ask my buddy at the Toyota dealership.
Yea lemme know
And do you have to put it on and press city or he other modes every time you stop and start it?
Yea engine is all the same. it should work. It retains the last driving mode you were in every time you start the vehicle.
@@TRDJon thank you.
so what mode have you found yourself using the most?
City 3 currently and enjoying it.
Will the P.C. interfer (or change) with the intended or proper operation of Crawl Control, A-Trac, Multi-Terrain Select?
I'd put it in the stock mode for that.
@@TRDJon Thanks!
