I am looking to replace my pedal commander because I have encountered the dreaded dead pedal twice now. Do you still use and how has your experience been for a year now? Thanks in advance.
Great job on the video Jon! Thanks for making it. I had a Pedal Commander for a couple weeks, and I returned it simply because I needed the cash at that time for another project. I still say that modifying the throttle response is the single best performance mod you can do for the money. People confuse "performance" with "horsepower" all the time. Sure, this thing doesn't give you more horsepower, and some make the argument that throttle response modifiers don't do anything that mashing the pedal down harder can't do, but by making it more responsive, they reduce the amount of work it is to interact with your car. It removes an obstacle between the driver and the experience. That's performance.
I just installed mine today & man this thing is legit. I installed this in an Acura TLX Type S which I might be the first to have done this on this particular car & man it's been a blast especially in race mode paired with sport plus, & it's made my high flow cats & sport exhaust sound even louder. So if you're on the fence about this don't hesitate go get it, oh and by the way the installation is easy
These do great for 4Runner at fixing the throttle response, BUT you can do SO much better! I started with a Sprint Booster, then got a Yotawerx tune. The tune actually gives you increased power and torque PLUS the pedal response. To boot, fixes the constant hunting of the transmission highway driving. Way better solution.
Bought one of these for my 16 T4R after I saw your video; what a difference! I love it; wish I had it since I bought the truck new. Just so much more fun to drive. Seems like 35% Sport is my sweet spot, and seems like that setting keeps it from downshifting too much. Thanks so much for the video.
I had a pedal commander but after a month it made the 4runner pedal really twitchy and sensitive. Even with diff settings they always seemed to have an issue. I didn’t like it after that. At first I loved it enough to leave a good review as everyone else did. Then removed it as every one else did lol.
The throttle response curves are completely different on the pedal commander, which are not a linear curve but more like a 90 degree turn, which is what makes them dangerous & if the pedal commander loses power, your pedal loses input & dies also. Banks Pedal Monster uses the obdi port and deactivates on reverse, & below 10mph in forward & will bypass to OEM pedal if it loses power. I'm unsure about ShiftPower Throttle Response Controller by ISS Automotive. They don't list any safety features on their website, but definitely, any pedal controller needs to be disabled or dialed back at low speeds.
FYI I did the same, but, if you are still in the return window, check out the Banks. I'm about to remove my pedal commander and sell it and install the Banks that just arrived. Do a little research you will see why..I wish I had! no fail-safe on the PC, goes in limp mode if there is an issue and jumpy in reverse. I did / do like the PC but i do not like it in reverse or at low speeds while parking.
@@anthon300 I have had no issues (with the PC) so far, but the Banks is designed safer and love the well thought-out low speed and reverse features.. I'll be installing it in the next few days. Banks is a good company I trust. I had not known they made one until recently, or I'd have gone that way from the get-go !
So considering each of the 4 settings on the Pedal Commander has 9 ‘levels’ (- 1-4, standard setting, and + 1-4), it’s basically the PC, with a lockout. Which IS a cool feature.
This one also has the option of three different throttle response curves. I previously tried a Sprint Booster and liked the ability to disconnect the remote while it stored the last setting, but it didn’t have a phone app to adjust without the remote. For the Shift Power I haven’t seen any any instructions suggest it can be installed without the wired remote, but I installed mine without connecting the remote, and it works great by just adjusting through the app. I believe that’s another thing the PC doesn’t give the option of. Who likes a bulky remote one display?

Hey man great video we just got a 2023 limited 4runner is there any factory warranty issue with installing this product. Thanks and keep up the good work
Jon, a couple of questions. If you have it in sport or race mode, and you put it in reverse does this enhancer revert to original factory settings? 2. If the unit fails (i.e. hardware/software issue) does the units revert to factory settings or will I have to disconnect the unit and restore wiring to pre install? I ask because these are the main selling features (for me) to buy the Banks Pedal Monster. Thanks
Not sure about the failsafe. You'd need to ask them about that one. It hasn't failed on me in the years ive been running it. I don't put it in race mode, but it feels that reverse mimics the setting it is in.
might be redundant but two questions, have you had any issues with this throwing codes, or going into limp mode? if so how often and what is the fix. 2nd questions, does the model linked in your video work for the 2022 4runner as well? doesn't explicitly say it on the website.
May be stupid questions…can you change your modes while driving, whereas PC recommends (that I’ve heard) stopping before shifting onto a different mode.
