Nothing we can do at this point, it’s man made fires. It’s out of any Canadian or nyc citizens hands at this point. Even in California I’ve spoken to people who are skeptical about the fires over there as well. That’s just my theory, I could be wrong. Love Canadians by the way but stop blaming it on yourselves you guys are helping on bringing awareness to this as much as you can! Love ❤️

They really should be investing in air filtering masks and should be staying inside, not out, no matter how much New York never sleeps. Three days minimum. My heart goes out to everyone affected.
As a Australian who has been through most summers in a bush fires you get used to it and becomes a habit you can feel it in your throat and in the heat
As a lot valet in South Jersey, I walk around all day getting cars for customers and such. Each time I stepped outside though, I couldn't help but notice a burning sensation in my nostrils and terrible headache. The air quality has been terrible for awhile down here form the forest fire earlier in the month...
Hoping it clears up quickly for y’all. We’ve been dealing with this for at least a portion of every summer since around 2016 in the Pacific Northwest. It’s hard to convey how awful it is until you experience it. Hope and pray that we actually take action to combat this kind of thing bc it’s miserable to go through
Well I’m also in the PNW and fire season happens every…single…year. It’s going to happen this year, and it’s been happening way before 2016 lol. Y’all need to sack up, it’s not that bad unless you’re in the path.
I live in Wenatchee Wa and this happens to us almost every summer. It is just horrible. I feel even worse for those in Canada that have lost homes and property to these fires. Stay out of that smoke as much as possible. Our cat has asthma from what I am sure has been from her time outdoors in the summer during the fire season. Oh yeah, we call it the 5th season here. WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER, SMOKE, FALL!
I remember 2021 in the Willamette valley in Oregon it was so bad with wildfire smoke you couldn't see more than 10 feet at times. Another thing I remember was the sun, because it was such dense smoke it was only light out for a few hours a day when it was directly above and the outline of the sun was a rich red. Also overtime people became more and more exhausted from a many factors from less oxygen and not being able to get oxygen into the body because carbon monoxide. One last thing was I remember that super vibrant orange that's in the video. Good luck New York your going to need it.
Maybe listed as “the worst” but it’s coming from wild fires that will stop at some point. Traveling to cities like Kathmandu and others in Asia..it’s just their daily life. I was there for 3 weeks, and it hung in the air every day. Thanks for sharing the great shots of NYC and what’s happening there now, I hope for all of us we can find a way to keep our air and water clean-

Yeah I actually met some firefighters from New South Wales while working on the wildfires in Alberta! You were all so nice! Australia and New Zealand are always welcomed to Canada in my book.
The scale of forest fires in Canada can be quite amazing and smoke has made it as far as Europe in the past. Revelations… Canada is past just melting now.
I live about a couple hours away from NYC and we still got the smoke up here, it sucked breathing in all that smoke but luckily 3 months later it’s over
Never clicked on one of Casey’s videos so fast….whole day all I was telling myself is that Casey will publish a vid outlining his experience with the air quality! He never disappoints
I know perfectly well what you felt because I have been through this many times unfortunately. In Portugal this happens almost every year in the middle of summer, the sun turns red, ashes falls all over the south of the country (where I live), and the streets are covered in shades of orange! It looks fantastic on video and photos in the cinematographic aspect but I hope this passes very fast because if it continues like this the worst part of all this can happen, like in 2018 here in Portugal
I am from England, and the first time I visited your country, Before I landed, I could literally see for the first time in my life woodland on Fire from the seat of my Airplane window, what a landing, crazy what nature is capable of doing, we should never underestimate it, the people we should be thankful for are the firefighters who do what they can to control such events from getting too out of control, as people can sadly lose their lives or homes in such areas I believe.
I live in BC, Canada. Every summer for as long as I can remember, the sky looks like this or worse a couple times. They rate air quality on a scale of 1-10, my hometown was once rated at 42!! I remember notice for children and seniors to stay inside, and for adults to only go out for necessary errands or work. All sports and outdoor activity was cancelled and strongly advised against personal exercise. It’s a real problem up here with wildfires 😣
The saddleworth moors fires in the UK a couple of years ago was the same. My partner woke me up to the site of the hillside blazing from our bedroom window. Felt like the apocolypse mixed with a public house snooker room in the 90s.
Wow Casey thank you for the nice message at the end. I’m a wildland firefighter and have been working directly on the fires in Alberta. My colleges are at the Quebec fires right now. The haze the smokes create is certainly very scary, a mask definitely does help. Stay safe -Alex
A few days ago I was in Duluth, MN and we were in the epicenter of the potent stuff for part of a day. I could not see Lake Superior from the window. Lake Superior was 1 block away. It was unreal and had an eerie feeling.
I haven't watched Casey in like almost 6 years since he stopped his vlog every day schedule and when he moved to LA. Randomly just watched this one as I saw it in the feed and seeing the old old classic nyc 2015-16 studio and the NYC type casey vlog really put me in a nostalgic mood
I feel like a lot of people took a break from Casey around the time of 368 or when he moved to LA. He talked about it in the video when he goes back to NYC that he felt that he needed a change in his life after doing the daily vlog but going to LA wasn’t the right way about it. Now he’s back to posting similar content to his 2014-2016 videos
This is a very serious problem in Canada and why we moved out of the west coast. Every year this happens and the last summer we were in Vancouver it got this bad for almost a month. Unfortunately budgets have not been put into prevention of fires and now it's just reaction to fires which is obviously too late by then. It's only going to get worse and we need to pressure governments to do more and budget more towards future forest fire management. Really sorry for those people having to go through this. Please take care!
Forest always burned and regenerated them self even before mankind existed. No need to prevent those fires, you only extinguish those that overly endanger humans.
I'm in eastern Canada and apreaciate your message of solidarity with those affected. At this time of year we normally have no more than 30 fires. As of the time this video aired the count was147.
The fact you saw Ghostbusters II in production is cool. I would love to be in NYC for just that reason: filming. I would have loved to see SCREAM IV in production.
Not good & I'm moving to NYC from Southern California in a couple of months! I hope the smoke dissipates by then. Stay safe, Casey! BTW, nice drone footage!
I’m convinced that this would be one of the videos Casey would make during the pandemic when he didn’t leave the city, the cinematography is there, the dialogue with the people is there and a straightforward context of how NYC is doing in 4 minutes, nothing short of amazing Casey
What do you like so much about this video? I like the music. Kinda reminds me of music from elementary school in the early 90's. Which may have come from an old projector reel film made in the 70s lol
Casey (or anyone in NYC), do you notice how much the air quality changes your fitness whilst running/cycling? I know a lot of folks run in NYC but it doesn't really strike me as a good place to do so.
i live in northern california, where this is normal for us every summer. Please, be wearing a mask outside if you absolutely have to be leaving your home. It is so bad to be breathing in. Sending the east coast so many thoughts, especially those with respiratory issues. Here's to hoping this summer won't be as bad as the last couple years.
I had an experience once like this, since I'm from Nevada, I was out shooting hoops one day, and all I saw in the sky was orange, I mean not as bad at this, but I was a little nervous never seen anything like that before, but I didn't see anything on the news about bad air quality. I also think it was from one of the wildfires from California. Let's hope everything will be fine over in Cali this summer 🙏
As an Eastern Canadian (Nova Scotian), appreciate the message at the end ❤. Just outside of Halifax, where we are, the fires took out a lot of homes and businesses.
This reminds me of the Australian bush fires in 2020, a lot of the smoke travelled over the Tasman sea to the upper areas of the North Island in New Zealand, the sky was orange and you could almost taste the ash. I remember one day looking out my window and the sky was blue with not much clouds, then an hour or so later I looked out again and it was all yellow. It's fascinating how bush fires can cause so much impact to the air we breathe, even if the bush fires are thousands of kilometers away.
I live in oregon. This is every 4 years or so. I was out walking when it started to get dark and it started to look like a horror game/mad max movie. It gets crazy.
I went out on my balcony yesterday (about an hour west of Toronto), and sat there wondering to myself why the air smelt burnt and the visibility was so poor city wide that downtown was fading away in the distance. I had no idea that the wildfires were this close to home right now, and it's bad that it took a New Yorker to tell me what was going on here 💀 awesome video as always, Casey

Thanks for covering the conditions here in NYC Casey! Its gets super orange then kind of clear but if you look at how your window filters the light it’s still casting orange shadows which is crazy.
I was with my kid on her 8th grade DC/NYC trip at the beginning of June so we were there for all this. The only bright spot was we are from Northern California so when we landed and all the kids saw the orange sun they just shrugged and said “Yep. Ok” and no one got hysterical.

I came here to say something like this. At one point, we had 500+ AQI for a few days in Central Oregon. They are at low 300 (at the most) as I write this.
As a Canadian I didn't realize how precious it is to have qauilty air; something so vital for survival yet I never appreciated it. So if there is one positive take away hopfully more people gain some gratitude and knowledge about this essential part of life.
You Canadians keep denying climate change and see what it has brought upon you. Stop denying that the earth gets warmer every year, only then can we fight the causes of wildfire
This could be a wake-up call. We are the ones who are creating this scenario. These wildfire are a result of climate change, of an unsustainable civilization. We can do things differently! We can live more regeneratively and have it be an awesome experience, too :) Look for: Designing Regenerative Cultures, Paul Hawken, Nora Bateson, Thich Nhat Hanh ... come on, people! We don't need to accept this as the future we have to live in.
ORANGE you glad the sky's not banana?! Seriously, that's quite creepy to see (and I don't envy anyone stuck outdoors with no choice but to try to breathe that)! It looks almost as though NYC is having a haboob (or sandstorm)! I wonder if that new 'Ghostbusters' movie (1:35) will in any way reference the( hopefully brief and temporary) orange sky as a plot point? Please stay safe and try not to overdo it until the air clears (as much as it can in NYC)! Thanks for recording this phenomenom for the rest of the world, Casey!
We went through this is Washington and Oregon during the wild fires a few years ago and it was awful and scary. Tge sky was orange and tan and we couldn't see across the street even and the smell was awful and it was so hard to breathe for over a week. My prayers go out to all the firefighters and people affected by the fires.
I was thinking the same thing. My dad took a photo of his property, it looked like mars. It was weird, I recall how the days felt really long, but also like they never really got started.
That’s normal for Oregon, due to visitors accidentally causing forest fires. AQI is sometimes 300 plus. Just to give you a range: AQI of 150 and above you are not allowed to go outside for outdoor activities.
Great video Casey! We had the wildfires in Alberta last month and it was the same visibility & air quality. Really interesting to see it in a big city like NY. Hope the smokes clears up for you soon.
I was in the Fort McMurray, AB, Canada wildfire of 2016 and it was way worse than this. I remember waking up to an evacuation emergency with my clothes and inside of my house smelling like campfire smoke. The city had a hue like Mars. We evacuated south of Fort Mac to Edmonton and stayed there for about a month. It was crazy and this year brings back so much memories of that particular season in my life.
Fellow Albertan here. I remember the Fort Mac fires quite well and most summers we get quite the orange hue here in Olds. Sometimes I forget the rest of the world doesn't get smoke every year.

Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Colorado. All I can say is, Welcome to the club, Casey! Haha. Stay safe out there.
I live in a state around new york, and one day I checked the air quality index was 303 in Manhattan and then next day it was over 400 where I lived. It was crazy because the sky looked as if it was cloudy but you couldn't see any clouds, along with this there was also a smoky smell outside.
As a Canadian, this is just how it's been the last few years and it's been getting worse and worse. As a Canadian who has been through a few summers of wildfires, I see people at risk in terms of their health. They really should be investing in air filtering masks and should be staying inside, not out, no matter how much New York never sleeps. Three days minimum. My heart goes out to everyone affected.

Dude... The feeling in the throat is exactly what I'm experiencing this morning. I work outside in NJ and it whooped my ass yesterday.
