I decided to go back to grad school in my early thirties. My school was in the middle of nowhere. When I had about 1.5 years left I had to move and commute 2 hours there and back on school nights. Classes didn’t start till 5pm and lasted 3 hours. It was long day that put me traveling dark country roads late at night. My 70 year old Dad drove me to those classes because he couldn’t bear the thought of his baby being stranded in BFE, alone, at night. He waited 3 hours in the car and was up way past his early bedtime. I could’ve driven myself. I didn’t mind driving myself. I was actually kind of embarrassed about it at first. My Dad passed almost 2 years ago. I am so grateful for those hours in the car now. Just us. Talking and laughing. I miss him so much. We never got to take the trip we talked about, but we had those school night trips and I’m glad.
Absolute Fang Lord Not Gonna Lie , not sure you understand how comments or conversations work but, holler at me when your dad dies so I can be mean to you about in a public forum.
I think he was chewing gum because he didn't want to smoke in front of his father. Believe me, I'm a smoker, and I used to do the same thing, with gum, chips, biscuits and other food.
Casey the way you turn your footage into full blown stories, amazes me. Not only did you use footage from the trip but from when your kid was growing up too. It all connected perfectly with the story you were trying to share with us. Your work seriously inspires me. Never stop making videos...
They don't need you less as they get older. They need you differently. Better to be grateful for the new types of support they need than mourn the earlier types of support :)
Today was my first baby birthday, it’s so special to rewatch this video knowing the feeling of being a parent, thank you Casey, for sharing your story!!
right? this is the video that made me subscribe despite the fact i've watched tons of videos of casey before this. This one just feels more authentic actually.
This whole video just explains why Casey is just a wonderful human being. He was 17 years old when he got his girlfriend pregnant, most guys would just take off and leave, but Casey stayed. I find this very special because he obviously wasn't looking for any form of commitment at the time, I mean look at him right now, always travelling and making spontaneous trips to places all around the world. He could've lived life way easier and laid back without a little toddler constantly whining and crying, but he didn't, because he realised him and his girlfriend made a little mistake, and he took the consequences of it. And that's what I love about this man, even when things didn't go the way they were supposed to go, and his future looked a lot less adventurous with a kid at home, he realised he just couldn't leave a girl with a baby that doesn't have a father. I don't know who Owen's mother is and she'll probably never see this, but I really want her to realise that although she and Casey made a mistake, she is very lucky that Casey was the one who made the mistake with her, and not just some other guy. Flashforward to 2014, Casey got another kid with a beautiful woman, circumstances are better and life is probably a little easier. I have to say, I am really jealous of Francine, with such amazing parents and such an amazing big brother. Lots of love from the Netherlands!
At the beginning of the video Casey said he and Candice went on their first date in 2005, so I don't think they got a baby in 1998 and didn't start dating until 7 years later...
I am 16 and i still hug and love my dad. When he comes home from work my younger brother and i no matter how much homework we have we still run to the door to be the first to hug him when we hear our garage door opening, for me family is first before friends because friends come and go but family is with you pretty much forever.
hahaha I wish that was true... My experience is very different. You can choose your friends, but not your family. My friends always stuck around, but family DID NOT!
maite arregi It's a racist thing I do lol. I do it with Italians too! Whenever my grandma is speaking italian (She's italian) I do it as well. I do know the difference though and I like both mexicans and spanish people
Best movies ever, Casei. I felt very bad, i had stomach ache and cant sleep. This movie turn my body back in life. I feel better when i can see somethin like that. Its awesome work, I love it man.
I haven’t watched this in a really long time. This video got me into videography, and into investing my time into finding something I love to do and be in the near future. Of course back then I was still a kid and had unrealistic expectations. Thanks Casey for this precious masterpiece of a video.
many people say "aww this is so heartwarming" or "this is a nice story" but what they didn't notice is that this is how our parents feel about us the reason Casey made this is to tell us to be with our parents, more interaction with them. Everyone wants to be independent, but what we need without knowing is help, and support, and that's what our parents are here for to help their kids when they are weary, affraid, or confused.
Ballett.Beautiful that is so true but hes a dad that takes pride in what he does and teaches his kid a lesson of things before he tries them and lets him make his own decisions
+mm1996 That's exactly what Casey meant by "When someone needs you, it's easy to be there for them" i.e. not as easy as finding someone there for you. It's quite sad, but it's true most of the time.
This video is everything, the amount of work it took to plan, gather, save, effort, money, time to edit the video and the mental aptitude to deal with everything is astronomical and as a father myself i really related to this more than anything, thank you Casey truly a gift your talent is unmatched .
My son is 1 and a half and this totally wrecked me. The emotions and way you feel about your son reflects the bond I hope to share as my own grows. God bless you for this video.
My dad wasted allot of his life working for money rather then spending time with his family, missed out on his children growing up; I'm glad you didn't make the same mistake; I defiantly wont. thanks for this gem; I love this, really thank you, you're helping me become a better story teller.
I watched this video before and after having my own kid. Man, it just hits you differently when your little one is laying right beside you. Teared up within a minute!
My father never spent a lot of time with me because he was always working, he did what he had to in order to provide and i am extremely thankful, and i do not blame him for what he did. Being an adult you realize that without money you cannot support your family, and without work there is simply no money. But now he is retired and has all the time in the world, we are making up all kinds of lost time and i love it! We went on vacation not too long ago and he said that spending time with me was literally the best experience he had his whole entire life. That's all i needed hear. I love you dad!
+Xerator you start to think about your own life? idk i got teary eyed cuz i was thinking about my childhood and my relationship with my father who died when i was only 10 years old from a heroin overdose. and now im 20 years old struggling hard with a heroin addiction myself, weird eh.
We should all wake up and find something amazing everyday no matter where we are! I love his attitude and appreciation for his son's growth. It's hard, but it's a learning curve everyone has to go through.
Wow, Casey. What a video! Owen must be proud to have you as a father. I normally wouldn't spend 20 minutes watching any single video on RUclips but I always find time to watch your vids from start to finish. Your storytelling skills will likely lead 90% of the viewers of this video straight through to the end. Awesome work. Looking forward to seeing what your next adventure is.
As I work my way through these movies I feel like I've discovered gold.....until a few days ago I'd never heard of Casey Neistat, his work is heartwarming, funny (very sometimes) sad and thought provoking, I'm addicted ! long may it continue. 👍
And now I love my son even more after seeing this video... why is this video making me choke up? My son just turned 4... I’ve missed so much because of my work.
I have been watching Casey videos for about 2 years now. Every now and then one of his older videos will pop up in my suggestions. This is the first time I have ever seen this video, and I believe it is the best I have seen from him. This video was almost 20 minutes, but I was invested the entire time. I felt many different emotions watching this video, and I have a new perspective on my relationship with my parents. This is absolutely incredible.
My dad never really wanted anything to do with me - and then he died. This video made me very emotional. I didn't want it to be over. It's really beautiful and the best thing I have EVER seen on youtube.
Rewatching this just made me want to reconnect with my dad that I’ve really lost connection with over the last couple years. Him and my mom just recently got divorced and things are weird but there is such an importance to having that relationship with your dad that you just helped me realize.
Ok, I know I am 4yrs late, but I just saw this video today and it is just so beautiful. First off, Casey, you are such an inspiration to so many people, u probably don't even realize just how much of an inspiration you are. But I think to your son you are so much of an inspiration and more. And of course he may not show it through out his teenage years but that's all teenagers, so don't take it the wrong way. Remember u were a teen at one point and u just like every single teenager grow apart from their parents through their teens cuz we all think, "oh I am old enough now that I don't have to listen to my parents anymore!" Or at least something along those lines. But that does NOT mean they stop loving us or even stop from needing us. They are just at an age where they think they can now do everything on their own. But in reality our babies, no matter how old they get they will always need us. Its just when they are usually from 12/13yrs old til around 20ish yrs old they come back and realize they don't have to show off to friends or anyone to be cool. And most importantly they realize how important family is and that no matter what family, especially parents, are the true and real people who will always be there for them no matter good or bad situations. As friends grow up, move away, go to college and make new friends, or there's an argument and they lose their friends over something so dumb. But u can have a million arguments/fights with Mom and Dad but mom and dad never go away ok anyways so yeah lol sorry it wasn't supposed to be this long just couldn't help it. Thank u Casey for a peek inside your personal life. U really do have a handsome good smart young man there. U should be proud!!!!!
Sharon Zeman Really sick and tired of being generalized with teenagers. A longtime member of teenagerism right here and I can assure you, we don’t ALL drift away from our parents. Also, there exist teenagers that are really close with their parent(s) and are still very much so dependent on them.
This is the type of long distance relationship I wish I had with my mother. You’re a great dad, Casey. Never stop trying to be the best version of yourself for your children, they will thank you later.
Watching this is in 2018. It's crazy how this is my favorite video even after almost watching all the rest. I guess it's the story and moments that's counts, even in life.
"Being a parent for me was easier than being a kid." If this isn't the most true thing I've ever heard. Being a dad is the best thing that's ever happened to me and I hope I do a well enough job that he'll be successful and won't have the same problems I had growing up. Love my little boy more than anything.
+khizr zaheer Hardly. Most men don't get kids until they are already 30 if not older. Casey got his at 17. That small age gap is much easily crossed : you can connect with him a lot more easily because whatever he's going through is still kinda fresh in your mind. Also, by the time he's 13, you're barely 30 and fully capable of going on this sort of adventures (doing it at 45 is a lot harder). So yes, you can still be an awesome dad. But you're gonna have a MUCH harder time the later you have your kids in life.
+storm_chick yeah, and I know parents who got their kids late and act like teenagers. So its very different. Its all up to each one how they want to raise akid I guess.
This video really hit me hard. It made me realize how distant I’ve been toward my father lately. I’m 22 now and it made me HAVE to go visit him. Thanks for this Casey. I’m honestly ashamed of myself it took a RUclips video to make me realize I’m not close enough with my father.
@AmyB1961 well, the covid lock down was real hard on dad, he started working from home and depression hit him hard, he's really distant and never leaves his house. Not much is different now than 2 years ago sadly.
@gavinbkr10 Hope that maybe you've made some progress now. I'm 35 now and lost my Dad when I was 18 and my mom when I was 28. Cherish them while you can brother 🤙
I have the deepest respect for Casey's way of living his life. Noticing something needs to change, and actually doing it are two completely different things. I'm sure Casey has his flaws, but he's willing to do something about it which makes me jealous because I'm sure if my father and I were more like that we would have a better relationship. Owen is such a good, I mean great, kid! Seems like the trip really paid off because that smile and face of achievement in the end was worth a million bucks! Thanks for sharing this 20 minute video with us. Although I have to say, that moment at 5.59 would have been enough too :)
You are by FAR the best story teller to ever exist. Watching this for maybe my fifth time in the past 9 years and your style of story telling never ceases to amaze me. You are truly brilliant at what you do.
I am so impressed by this "short movie". You really got your own unique style that is so beautiful and I really enjoy watching it. Thanks for sharing this amazing experience with us!
I cried while watching this. I don’t have a dad well I do but he’s...yeah okay. Anyway I wish I had a dad like this. So many adventures. So much love spread. This is truly breathtaking and beautiful. One day he can tell his kids or grandchildren wow my dad is fucking awesome and I really wish I had that.❤️❤️👌
I moved to Canada 3 years ago, I was 19 when I decided to move alone and leave my family in my home country. Every time that I think about how I am spending my time here without them it breaks my heart. I want to finish all my goals and come back and travel with my father especially cause he is a superhero to me
Very cool video, especially when family is the topic. Parents/Kids relationship is not always easy but Casey and Owen's journey was definitely a great and fun adventure for both to get to know each other a lot more. I'm sure it was a great trip! Owen's first word was probably "HAPPY" again on this fun trip!

First two minutes I was like. Keep it together. Gonna be a long ride lol
Forever grateful for your work 🙏🏼
It changed my life
Thank u Casey
I adored this so, so much. Your twenty minute films are always the greatest.
Casey is like the coolest dad ever
amelia sundays ya wish he was mine
Dont say that, your Parents are as good as he is !
Nope Roman Atwood is wayyyyy better but Casey is on the same level
The kid's anus seems to agree.

We should all wake up and find something amazing everyday no matter where we are! I love his attitude and appreciation for his son's growth. It's hard, but it's a learning curve everyone has to go through.
This video is so adorable and touching I don't understand how people could dislike this
Yess!
Your videos are so addicting man! I swear to ***. whatever you point the camera at, its interesting. My favorite youtuber by far.
We meet again
Totes agree.

"I tried hard to have a father but instead I had a dad." - Kurt Cobain
I feel the same way, I just started watching about a week ago and am loving all of his movies.
+TwoGoofballs 👍 😉
+Terry Baldock First time I saw him was that 360 vlog he did with Roman Atwood, he sent me here, Auto-Sub :)
+Terry Baldock i just did the same.
+Terry Baldock perfectly described !
I wish i'll be a dad like Casey
Tibsous don't wish, be a dad like Casey
I'm still a kid, but Casey has given me a new appreciation for my parents.
Dont wish, be like Casey! You can too someday
Then get somegirl pregnant at 16
I wish i would never grow up
My dad never really wanted anything to do with me - and then he died. This video made me very emotional. I didn't want it to be over. It's really beautiful and the best thing I have EVER seen on youtube.
Really sorry man
Randy and Richard I haven't seen my dad in 11 years
I'm bingeing on your videos, Casey, and am falling in love with story telling. You're great at it
Man you late to the party haha! Enjoy the videos 😃
I have also started to watch all these old videos in order. Great time!
Me too!
@@NykkNik I'm also watching all the videos but not in order lol
It's so cool how Casey vloged before it was a thing 😝😝
😂there were people 10 years ago who did, like Shaytards, ctfxc, and Jesse and Jeana in bf vs gf
I wouldnt consider this a vlog at all. This is what you call true Filmmaking
I was just thinking that. He really is the creator of vlogging.
This made me cry! Im 25 and having a kid in 4 weeks time :)
How funny, I have 25 kids and I'm 4 weeks old !
+Vincent Van Bellingen how funny, I have 25 weeks and 4 years
Oh fantastic, man! You must be exited, I guess?
+Daniel San XD
way too young to be a Father
This is so good, Casey!
Thanks for showing me this awesome documentary, Jake. Really nice video
Everybody is lovin Casey...
Oh my days, this made me cry!
The love and fatherly pride in this video is just beautiful.
Thank you for sharing your amazing journey together x
Amazing. Owen is very lucky to have such a loving father. And you are so lucky to have such an amazing son as well.
Please give Casey the best Father Award Of The Year...!!
Damn, this kid must get awesome profile pictures
lol
true aha
Wdym? 😂
Yeah. It's all about the profile pictures...
he keeps taking photos of him and so has many photos to pick from
Rewatching this just made me want to reconnect with my dad that I’ve really lost connection with over the last couple years. Him and my mom just recently got divorced and things are weird but there is such an importance to having that relationship with your dad that you just helped me realize.
This is incredible Casey! Great job.
Oli White yeh it is
Hi oli
Sharon Zeman wow
Sharon Zeman Really sick and tired of being generalized with teenagers. A longtime member of teenagerism right here and I can assure you, we don’t ALL drift away from our parents. Also, there exist teenagers that are really close with their parent(s) and are still very much so dependent on them.
You cant be 4 years late in 2018
Loved this video. Your son is clearly a good kid, and you're clearly a good dad.
This is the type of long distance relationship I wish I had with my mother. You’re a great dad, Casey. Never stop trying to be the best version of yourself for your children, they will thank you later.
Watching this is in 2018. It's crazy how this is my favorite video even after almost watching all the rest. I guess it's the story and moments that's counts, even in life.
this is the best movie, you have uploaded. It simply defines you.
goals , so heart warming . but I can't even be in the same room as my dad
I feel you bro
Analee Pichardo
OMG why?😱😧😐😯
Ella G that's very disrespectful,if they felt the need to share that info ,they would have
me too
Analee Pichardo me too.
"Being a parent for me was easier than being a kid." If this isn't the most true thing I've ever heard. Being a dad is the best thing that's ever happened to me and I hope I do a well enough job that he'll be successful and won't have the same problems I had growing up. Love my little boy more than anything.
To everyone who says they wish their dad was like him: you can be that dad/ mom goddamnit
+Khayam so basically just get ur girlfriend pregnant early?
+storm_chick yeah, and I know parents who got their kids late and act like teenagers. So its very different. Its all up to each one how they want to raise akid I guess.
+khizr zaheer no too late i'm 29 allready and don't even have girlfriend.
+DoKtor Zaheer just because it's emotional that doesn't mean it's the best video on yt. you clearly havent seen most video's on yt then.
Brilliant piece of work by a fantastic film maker.
1k dislikes?!!!!!! Those people must have cried so hard they couldn’t see that they pressed the wrong button
Lool
@Woke Beans hi fellow sinner
It's just a lame ass video
Love that
FallenSuicide fuck off
This video really hit me hard. It made me realize how distant I’ve been toward my father lately. I’m 22 now and it made me HAVE to go visit him. Thanks for this Casey. I’m honestly ashamed of myself it took a RUclips video to make me realize I’m not close enough with my father.
How did it go?
Great work Casey! Im sure your a great father.
You're* ;)
Ok thanks, this is not a essay by the way! :)
My Kid and I* lol I don't care I'm just doing that to make people mad.
+Sapphire Dragon so ur a troll basically 😂😂
wtv u wanna call it
This is the most entertaining twenty minute film I've ever seen
You are by FAR the best story teller to ever exist. Watching this for maybe my fifth time in the past 9 years and your style of story telling never ceases to amaze me. You are truly brilliant at what you do.
He's only 13, he looks at least 15
@@alidavud178 i was born at 1998

I am so impressed by this "short movie". You really got your own unique style that is so beautiful and I really enjoy watching it. Thanks for sharing this amazing experience with us!
I cried during this video so many separate times for so many separate reasons. I couldn’t appreciate and love my parents more.
Hands down one of my favorite videos on RUclips... Amazing story line behind it .. Great work
the 889 people who disliked wanted to be Caseys' children
Mr. Incognito don’t we all want to be

Mr. Incognito dosent your comment encourage disliking this vid then?
YOUR...
so wrong i love my mom
you are creating great memories for your son!
watched this way back when i was a kid n now watching it again for the second time puts me into some deep emotions.
I would rather watch something like this than anything on main stream TV. A great video, and a great channel!
gotta feeling youtube will probably become the new tv
Casey, words cannot express how beautiful and inspirational this video is.
I cried while watching this. I don’t have a dad well I do but he’s...yeah okay. Anyway I wish I had a dad like this. So many adventures. So much love spread. This is truly breathtaking and beautiful. One day he can tell his kids or grandchildren wow my dad is fucking awesome and I really wish I had that.❤️❤️👌
Me too… me too… 😔
I moved to Canada 3 years ago, I was 19 when I decided to move alone and leave my family in my home country. Every time that I think about how I am spending my time here without them it breaks my heart. I want to finish all my goals and come back and travel with my father especially cause he is a superhero to me
This just make me realize how much i love my son, and how empty will be my life without him.
The 20 best invested minutes of my life.
Of all your films, this is my favorite...
