It's crazy to find this vlog 6 years later, knowing that this is what my own country looked like in 2012.
There's a big highway connecting Hanoi with Hoa Binh now, I swear to god Hanoi looked so different, and the hotel that you stayed in closed its doors after 20 years of operating.
This video brings back such a great sense of nostalgia; your storytelling skills are pure perfection, and this video brought up so many emotions.

Casey has a perspective that is somehow older than his age and yet so fresh and in touch with his own childhood. My son and his son are probably a few months apart in age and even though I am significantly older, I am feeling everything Casey feels in this -- where did the time go -- I wish we took more trips -- you can't change the past -- NOSTALGIA and MELANCHOLY with JOY and deep LOVE and APPRECIATION all mixed up into one swirl of emotion. When my son bought a boat last year--because he misses racing together (where does the time go?) did I discourage his new adventure? Heck no--here's to a kid who still wants to go play with his father.
Awesome sentiment. Our kids are 8 and 6 now. Already feel it is going to fast, but starting to document and catalog much more to be able to look back.

this is without doubt the best video you have ever posted, its rare to see such a unadulterated connection and sheer love between a dad and his son, you articulated yourself perfectly and spoke for many of us dads who cannot find the right words to express ourselves to our kids, watching this made me take 3 days of work and go on an impromptu road trip with my son, thank you for the inspiration

I've always known that storytelling is at the root of engaging an audience. Though, I've never known anyone that espouses it like Casey Neistat. I love your films, Casey Neistat.
Thanks Casey, you've motivated me to take more memorable trips with my son. I go to Saigon almost yearly (parents live there now), but when my son gets a bit older im going to travel to various places with him. As a dad in my mid thirties, its hard to remember experiences with my son, but I always remember international trips. They trigger memories because they arent the same mundane routine that I do everyday.
This video earned my subscription. I'd rather watch a movie/story rather than a day out of someone else's life. Vlogs never interested me but these short films are really captivating! Keep going Casey 👍👍

As I commented several times, it must have been a finalized major new project that was the reason Casey stopped with his vlogs (the thing he was "holding back"). Now we know, it was a deal with CNN where Beme is sold for a lot of money, and a new affiliate to CNN for digital content is created where Casey and his Beme partner will be the directors.

The amount of foresight that went into this is just astounding.
You are an amazing person. A father every man should try to be. Spending time with your son. My father was always overseas working and to see how much time you spent with your son. Is inspiring. I made my time with my Dad count and when I look back. I am a lot like him.
As a longtime subscriber, before he started even doing the vlogs, I actually prefer this style of content rather than seeing his every-day actions... These were the types of films that brought me in and caused me to subscribe.
