It's a shame about the whole pricing issue, because that's a really solid conversion, steady performance, touch screen menus, HD rumble. They did a great job on this.
Great review! After loving this game on both PS3 and PS4, a portable version is just what I wanted. Looks like they did a great job with the Switch's less powerful hardware. Found it on clearance for £27 - sorted!
It's a SHAME to see such a good port held hostage by EA's exec's greediness. With that said, I'll just hold on to my GRID: Autosport as they've been cooking Online Multiplayer and it might land as soon as possible. Any time now.
Yes it is. I bought it, and am enjoying it, but I know that I paid a hefty Switch tax. I understand that publishers are going to price it higher than the PS4/X1 versions currently sell for, but why is it higher than the $39.99 price those released at two years ago? $39.99 would have been a fair price, $49.99 is just greedy. EA always does this, and then claims Nintendo gamers dont buy their games, never acknowledging the fact that they over priced their late arrival ports. Burnout is also more of a niche IP, combine that with the high price, and this port was destined to sell poorly. Its not even in the top 25 on the eshop right now.
I've found the music slowing down when a lot of interaction is happening, like 6 cars in a race all vying for a takedown, or the enemies in marked man trying to smash you, especially when going over large jumps.
Criterion made really good racing games. This has to be one my absolute favourite racing games after Gran Turismo and Need for Speed, I have it on PS3 but as soon as it came out on PC (no longer available on Steam at the request of the publisher) I got it when it went on sale. The graphics are a little dated on the PC as it's not the remastered version. Blisteringly fast and endless heart pounding fun, car class choices are very diverse and even has motorbikes. The car body damage physics is impressive to say the least and taking out rival drivers is very satisfying indeed. In all honesty the above average world graphics are not very noticeable when everything is flying past you at stupid speeds. I have to agree with other comments with the price point being a little high.
Thanks so much. Had doubts whether I would get this on Nintendo or for my PS5, but you’ve convinced me. It’s lovely to have portable and on the dock I can play this on tv anyways.
I think I got this game free on PS3 with PS+ about 10 years ago... I even have the platinum trophy for it I think... compared to racing games like GT Sport or Dirt Rally 2.0 or even the latest NFS, this game looks like the brown stuff I drop in the toilet every day.
Been loving playing this game again however I have noticed an odd issue. When the system is running very hot (which is happening a fair bit at the moment as the weather has been fairly hot) the opponent AI appears to just straight up break. They'll just drive in circles, smacking into the side of the road. This affects all the quick drive cars and some of the cars in a race or other event.
I bought it digitally the day it released, and it's just as good as I remember it to be when I had it on the Xbox. It's a great port, and the frame rate is constant and very satisfying. Yea it was pretty expensive I guess but I think worth it to be able to play it on the go.
That’s a good point. Although frame rate is a lot less important in that mode in general. Compared to ripping around the city at nearing 350 mph, showtime could run at 30 and still be playable. But thankfully it doesn’t run at 30 lol.
With my experiences with the game (Burnout License with 70 events left to go), the framerate can drop in tougher cases pretty hard. I have had stutters and some pretty low framerates (nothing under 30, but absolutely under 50). Marked Man events with collisions happening everywhere in those tough places can drop that framerate hard. These cases were docked, I am going to uninstall and reinstall just to see if that fixes any issues. This was also after power down and restart of the Switch. That being said, it is still an amazing game. I love Burnout Paradise and love having it on the go! The analysis was well done, the problems just get a tad rougher with more speed and more action in my experience.
Honestly the Switch version is much better than PS4 imo, since the PC and Switch made an attempt to fix the buggy mess that is the remastered, something PS4 and Xbox One apparently couldn't receive a patch for. @Repo man I think you need to always expect the same performance level from PS360 on Switch. Those games that are 30fps originally will remain that way.
@@caiocesamo Well the thing is Bioshock is 60fps on the pc and ps4 and xbox one version, but the switch is a lot more power than ps3 and 360 in terms of gpu and ram performance but the cpu with it clock at 1 GHz with 3 cores makes it weaker than 8th and 7th gen consoles and thats why the switch dropped a few fps in this game at rare moments when 7th gen didn't
@@raresmacovei8382 Not really... it's 3 to 4 times more powerful than X360 and PS3 in docked mode but so, the best you can get is a big bump in resolution (from 720p to 1080p), usually a more stable frame rate (games that went in the 20fps area are usually 30fps locked on Switch) and better assets/shadows/lighting... you MAY get 1080p and 50/60fps if you scale down the graphics a little (like Grid in performance mode). You can't get both 1080p AND 60fps... it would be a FULL 4,5x the performance boost (docked) and there is no room for that bump in performance.
Will you guys do a comparison of _Star Wars: Episode I Racer_ on Switch/PS4? It would be cool to see how it stacks up against Windows Dreamcast and N64.
switch : run burnout paradise with 720p and 900p resolution my computer : run burnout paradise with 800x600 resolution, low texture, no shadow, low effects, no anti-aliasing me : *it's fine, still looks gorgeous*
They only need to be slightly more aggressive with certain things with regards to game logic and vehicle physics, as well as texture streaming, and it'll be locked 60 fps. They could even go the cheap route by dynamically scale resolution down more based on moving entities nearby.
I would give 60 for very good remaster of first 3 or 4 silent hill games.also I would give 40$ for good remaster of Dead Space 1&2,or Mass Effect Trilogy.
I remember this being ridiculously easy to run since launch. The again, in 2008, I had a Core 2 Quad Q9550 at 3.2 GHZ, 2 GB of DDR2 800 ram, Nvidia GT 9600 GT 512 MB (equivalent to HD 3870 and some 15% under a 8800 GT). 1080p60 maxed out, no AA though and AO was ridiculously intensive while looking hideous in this particular game back then, so I kept it disabled.
The port is good, but they should just drop the "Remastered" on the title, like Valkyria Chronicles, since the visual sacrifices they made to make it run good here makes this closer to a slightly enhanced port than a remaster. Or at least, call it an "Enhanced" or "Complete" edition if you want to highlight the included package, like the Switch version of Saints Row: The Third.
So just everyone knows, this same title is available on Steam for $3 USD ($7 CDN) right now - promotion lasts until July 9th. Do yourself a favor, and save a ton of cheddar (unless you really need the Switch portability).
See the price coming up a lot in comments. Yeah it's too much, but then again Nintendo charged a full $60 for a game on Switch (Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze) that was $50 when it launched on Wii U, and was officially dropped to $20 by Nintendo themselves through the Selects program. Funny thing is neither one of these games can use the game card tax as an excuse since they are both very small. Sadly I think the Switch tax is really just a realization on the part of publishers (Nintendo included with their overpriced Wii U ports) that they can put whatever they want on Switch at just about any price because we'll all lap it up. Ya know, Muh Portability and all. Keep up the good work DF. Would love to see you guys do SpongeBob rehydrated next.
So I picked this up on PS4 when it first came out. I am pretty familiar with the game, I played a lot on Xbox 360. So after a few days, I started unlocking the highest tier of cars. And the game started crashing. Almost any time I would do a Road Rage in any of the fastest cars, it would crash. Almost any very high speed wreck or takedown would make the game crash to a blue screen. I tried it on both my PS4 and my PS4 Pro, both had the same problem. I left it installed for a couple of months and kept checking for an update but it never got one. Does this problem still ruin the end of the game, or did it ever get fixed?
The same issues also plague the Switch version as I just learned now. Best case scenario is that it crashes to the error screen, but the worse case scenario is when the console crashes and freezes with an awful corrupted screech. The PS4 version was never patched, and the Xbox One version has no crashing, but awful online lag that brings it down to 1 FPS for about 10 minutes, even after disconnecting.
but one mistake about the shadows u made at 7:07 for example look at the cars they dont have angle cast shadows they just use under car drop shadow texture on switch in comparison, odd u missed that digital foundry come on lol
The physical PS4 version of Burnout Paradise Remastered Launched with a major bug causing game crashes and corrupting save files, does anyone know if this has been fixed for the physical switch version?
My god this game is so good, it paved the way for a lot of things and is just great all around. I still go back and play the original PC version to this day.
I've had the original PC version installed on all my gaming PCs ever since I purchased it. I was originally an OG on the PS3 version in 08, and I think if I tallied up my playtime for both versions it'd probably be my most played game. I'll often simply boot up the game and drive around while listening to the in game soundtrack. The nostalgia is overwhelming.
This game was on sale for Xbox one last week. It costs $5 amazing deal at that price. Don’t think I can get myself to spend 5x that for the switch port.
Kalder me too man, I’m thinking open world but also the tracks are like from traditional burnout games, new cars and in depth customisation. Speaking of customisation, you can deform the car and damage the paint job, crack windows and remove parts.
I’m impressed he didn’t talk about the shadow of the net in the Switch version at the Junk Yard exit. Looks like a net, and in PS4 looks like a solid block
This game is smooth and fast! 60fps! Your basically in God Mode from the beginning because of the cars you instantly unlock making the game feel like a true arcade game platform from the jump.
The switch's technical inferiority really does shine through here compared to the ps4, it's no contest really. Actually, I love the switch and I'm always excited to see a comparison video. Considering that competing hardware increasingly marches in lockstep, the exotic architectures of consoles a thing of the past; it's very interesting and usually impressive to see how a machine (ie the switch) with a power disparity handles a conversion. Great stuff.

@@caiocesamo yea ports tend to always have the frame rate of last gen but with a bump up in resolution and details.
Switch should be able to easily run any X360/PS3 game at 1080p60 honestly.
@@raresmacovei8382
Not really... it's 3 to 4 times more powerful than X360 and PS3 in docked mode but so, the best you can get is a big bump in resolution (from 720p to 1080p), usually a more stable frame rate (games that went in the 20fps area are usually 30fps locked on Switch) and better assets/shadows/lighting... you MAY get 1080p and 50/60fps if you scale down the graphics a little (like Grid in performance mode).
When are you guys going to do a Xcom 2 analysis and compare it to the Xbox One/PS4 version and PC on low settings?
Bought it for £12 and it looks amazing on Switch
switch : run burnout paradise with 720p and 900p resolution
my computer : run burnout paradise with 800x600 resolution, low texture, no shadow, low effects, no anti-aliasing
me : *it's fine, still looks gorgeous*
You should replace your P2-350 MMX and especially upgrade your Riva TNT to at least a GeForce 256. Good luck!
I wonder if a flawless 60fps could be patched since it's sooooo close already.
Since the game just came out, there's time for optimization updates.
They only need to be slightly more aggressive with certain things with regards to game logic and vehicle physics, as well as texture streaming, and it'll be locked 60 fps. They could even go the cheap route by dynamically scale resolution down more based on moving entities nearby.
Great video! Tysm!
There are some videos with night footage being too obscure, was looking forward to DF's take on that but guess they did not have time to analyze it :(
Imagine paying $40+ for a 10+ year old game 😂
Age is irrelevant, in fact I wouldn't mind at all if they didn't sell _the exact same game_ for $20 on every single other platform.
True. Especially when its so much cheaper on Steam and PS4.
I would give 60 for very good remaster of first 3 or 4 silent hill games.also I would give 40$ for good remaster of Dead Space 1&2,or Mass Effect Trilogy.
No
F Nintendo
The jaggies are almost nostalgic. Reminds me of Burnout on PS2 😁
I didn't know ps2 was HD
@@jacobjordan8340 the PS2 could do 1080i
jvalex18 Gran Turismo 4 and Jackass as far as I know
We've come a long way, I remember struggling to maintain 60 fps on my giant Core 2 Duo PC.
But its closer to the ps4 version than last gen, also thats a terrible idea from a marketing standpoint
is this game good?
maybe I'll buy the PC version
I have burnout paradise remastered on my Nintendo switch lite and it looks great 👍
My GOD this game is smack in the middle of brown & bloom-town!
just like most wanted in 2005
Brown? More like blue.
Any ways to disable those filters in-game?
So just everyone knows, this same title is available on Steam for $3 USD ($7 CDN) right now - promotion lasts until July 9th. Do yourself a favor, and save a ton of cheddar (unless you really need the Switch portability).
2:13 PC gamma and overall looks are more pleasant to me than the cold looks of Xone version
You got one thing wrong ps4 dpesnt have 4.5 gb of more usable ram than switch, ps4 usable ram is 5.5gb and switch is 3gb of usable ram.
Would love to see a comparison with the PS3/Xbox 360 versions
Would love to hear your take on the recent launch of Assetto Corsa Competizione on consoles.
but one mistake about the shadows u made at 7:07 for example look at the cars they dont have angle cast shadows they just use under car drop shadow texture on switch in comparison, odd u missed that digital foundry come on lol
I would have liked to see a comparison with the original release, especially the textures. 😅
The physical PS4 version of Burnout Paradise Remastered Launched with a major bug causing game crashes and corrupting save files, does anyone know if this has been fixed for the physical switch version?
Price on Switch is ridiculous £44.99 or I can buy it on the UK PSN store in the sale for £8.99
My god this game is so good, it paved the way for a lot of things and is just great all around.
Nintendo Life said this was really blurry in handheld mode, yet here it's native 720p?
Maybe an update fixed it?
Digital Foundry >>>>> Nintendo Life
It's dynamic. It can go as low as 640x720
@@charizardoreo Ok, thanks. Bit of an oversight not to mention that in the video.
This game was on sale for Xbox one last week. It costs $5 amazing deal at that price. Don’t think I can get myself to spend 5x that for the switch port.

I wish we would get a Burnout 3 or Revenge remastered...
I rather have a completely new Burnout
Kalder me too man, I’m thinking open world but also the tracks are like from traditional burnout games, new cars and in depth customisation. Speaking of customisation, you can deform the car and damage the paint job, crack windows and remove parts.
You guys should also test the new TrackMania when it comes out!
Good work DF. Burnout Paradise is looking like a very decent Port on the Switch but the Price Point is too high tho.
I’m impressed he didn’t talk about the shadow of the net in the Switch version at the Junk Yard exit. Looks like a net, and in PS4 looks like a solid block
Please try to cover the GPD WIN MAX as much as possible!
This is when you wait a little longer for the price to drop on the eshop
Forgot I had this on my X thanks DF.
Will you also see the performance of Nfs hot pursuit on switch?
Can you please do a technical comparison of all the versions of Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated?
This game is smooth and fast! 60fps! Your basically in God Mode from the beginning because of the cars you instantly unlock making the game feel like a true arcade game platform from the jump.
Is this the same package that came out on PC a while ago?
All nice and dandy, but what about a new Burnout or a 4k remaster of Takedown and Revenge?
29.99 at bestbuy now... Just bought one today. This game is worth $50 easy .,,,runs flawless.Even in handheld mode is basically what I use it for
How can it call itself a last gen remaster at 720p?
The switch's technical inferiority really does shine through here compared to the ps4, it's no contest really. Actually, I love the switch and I'm always excited to see a comparison video. Considering that competing hardware increasingly marches in lockstep, the exotic architectures of consoles a thing of the past; it's very interesting and usually impressive to see how a machine (ie the switch) with a power disparity handles a conversion. Great stuff.
Does a PS4 run from a battery, have an in-built controller and display and fit in a jacket pocket?
@@detritiv0re144 Mine does.
3:18 HOW did you manage to drive in absolutely the same way on two consoles????
Steering with walls.
@@orijimi ??? 🤯
Now we just need Burnout Paradise 2
Solid.
Only issue Is the price. I'm playing it now and I LOVE IT!
